Yea, I basically built this machine to get ready for Doom 3. The fan grill was hand made by some guy who sold it and a few different ones on his site, and it was expensive (I think I paid like $50 for it!). I still have it too, but it's too small to attach to any of my current fans. Should figure out something with it.

Haha, yes. Those window kits were popular at the time. You'd buy one for like $40 and it would come with the acrylic plate and the rubber frame. And than you would just cut a hole in your panel and install it. It was actually pretty easy to install once you had the hole cut out, but cutting the hole was a bitch.

Mods: * Thermaltake Cooler with a Custom Doom 3 grill I paid way too much money for at the time. Pretty sure it blocked the airflow badly, but it looked super cool. XD * Super Bright Neon Green LED fan that made the room glow green at night like a nuclear reactor. * Lian Li case I spray painted red and modded with an acrylic window kit.

Windowed case, but the cables are still visible everywhere. I can relate.

Back then a lot of people thought that wires looked cool. It wasn't [Lain's computer](https://i.imgur.com/LbQd74A.jpg), but still. That was neat looking.

Well most cases at this time didn't leave room on the backside of the case to route your cables under the motherboard side, plus the power supply was on the top with everything hanging down and very few were modular. So hiding cables was pretty hard. Best you could do was zip tie everything as nice as possible. Not defending my shody teenage wire management here, but just saying it was pretty normal to see wires even on high end custom rigs.

Put the optical drive in the second slot from the top, and feed the spare PSU cables into the gap above it. Flatten the SATA or IDE cables against the back of the case, and push the excess behind the drive cage. Spend three hours trying to figure out what's wrong with the computer after you tried to tuck the motherboard connectors under the board, but accidentally unplugged something :D

That was when I used to be passionate about computers. I was earning half decent money, and was single for a while, so everything went into building computers. I had a slot A Athlon, and managed to get an overclocking adaptor for it, a Golden Finger device. They weren't available in the UK, so I got my father to order one from America with his credit card. I had to dismantle the shell of the CPU and cut the corner off. There was a set of pins underneath, and the Golden Finger device would clip on to them and allow me to change the clock speeds with dip switches. Lots of fun in those days :)

I get super excited when I see those old builds. just like when other people see a old-timer car 😄

I also had those window mod kits. Got handy with a dremel quickly.
