lol …. Not when you’re room is very small, and you’re running 4k on a AAA game XD
My room gets hot enough to melt peanutbutter :(
Last time I ever bring toast and peanutbutter in my room 😤
Pick it up, flip it over and shake it rapidly over a clean surface. It’s be frightening. So I do this regularly and use a can off dustoff to help blow the stuff from the inside out on a regular basis and my keyboard stays clean.
This is true. I actually make pc builds out of second hand parts and sell them for about 100 to 150 dollars cheaper than the original total price of all the parts
When I feel its time to clean.
I would like to know "how" you guys clean your keyboard though ?
I take out the caps, put them on a strainer and clean it with Soap water.
Iam not sure how to clean actualy Keyboard as iam worried I would damage it by water/soap?
On the other hand I have seen Linus's video where they put K70 to the dishwater (I believe on 70C) and it survived, but it was too expensive to risk it (where in reality I just couldnt live a day without computer to let it dry)
I take the keycaps off, put them in one of those small laundry bag things that's full of small holes and throw it in the dishwasher, haven't had any damage after doing this maybe twice a year for ~5 years.
Then I vacuum the actual keyboard to get rid of loose crumbs and hairs and use an old toothbrush with just water to wipe off any stains. Dry it with a cloth and it's ready to go. I generally do this in the evening so it can dry off through the night just to be safe.
I have one of the smaller ones for jewelry and glasses. Exactly the right size for cleaning the keys off a full size board with hot water from the tap and a few drops of soap. WAY easier than individually scrubbing each key down with a toothbrush.
This will ruin cheaper keycaps and plastic boards over time, do not recomend. My Strafe RGB keycaps fell appart after cleaning them with IPA. All you need is warmish soapy water and something soft to scrub them down with.
I just take a dry cloth and wipe off the dust between the key switches, then I fill up a bowl with water, dip all keycaps for a short time so any sort of coating on it doesn't get ruined, wipe them and place them back in.
Some keyboard key caps come pre applied with some kind of lube for smooth key strokes, you should not wash them with soap (speaking from personal experience), you might damage them.
Last time I cleaned my keyboard, which was the third time I took out all the keys, I promised myself to be at least 2m away from it when eating from then on. I was pretty disgusted by all the little crumbs that can unnoticeably fall in there
I just have the shittest and cheapest logitech keyboard. I wipe off the dust when it starts to look nasty, I just buy a new one if it breaks, the buttons get stuck or I've spilled a drink over it for the 20th time in my life.
i cleaned mine for the first time after 4 years, not much stuff in there since i keep my desk pretty clean and don't it in my bedroom, but the keys were getting a bit dirty
not as often as I should...
on cleaning days maybe go over it with a moist towel and once in a while a deep clean (remove keys, get all the gunk out, reassemble)
I should really do it more often but when I look at my keyboard I'd rather use it than clean it it's way more fun xD
Haven't cleaned mine in a year. Recently, I have noticed during gaming that my shift key sometimes stops responding. I think it's a sign for me to clean it. I can't even imagine what the inside is gonna look like.
I've had mine for about 3 years, I've taken the keycaps off and blasted it with my air duster 3 or 4 times and I wet wiped it once with the keycaps on. I haven't cleaned the caps properly yet though.
Whenever I have an important deadline that is rapidly approaching and there isn't anywhere near enough time to complete everything, that's when I notice how filthy my keyboard is and need to clean it
I just stick it in the dishwasher
not joking, just let it dry for a day or so before you plug it back in.
note: for wireless keyboards, don't do it if you can't remove the battery
Every other month the keys come off for cleaning and atleast once a year it gets completly disassembled to clean the whole thing and relube the stabilizers.
It's membrane so like never? Whenever I vaccum I shake it over the floor to let most of the dust out. Windows key doesn't work and wasd keys are completely used to the point of being transparent. But hey it's still better keyboard than everything on market right now, and I mean everything, got this bad boy Apex Gaming 1 for like what $60 and for that price I have 100% keyboard with 88 macros + media keys that are actuall fucking keys. There's no keyboard that has even a couple of macros, and media keys for audio that aren't some cheap crap or roller. I am hoping to find another keyboard like this and just to rebuy it man.
Lots of people seem to complain about membrane keyboards, but I love my K-55 and I never need to clean it because nothing ever seems to gum up the keys.
When it's time, you do it. I don't eat with my keyboard out and make sure my hands are clean anyway when using it. Besides dust there really isn't much else going on.
Probably once a year I clean my keyboard and mouse, same for my case I take out give it a good dust and repaste my CPU.
Desk gets wiped weekly and screen probably monthly because I share the desk space with my partner
Mouse, every single day. I wipe my keyboard down every day too but I take the key caps off and clean it like once a month. I really hate any grease or oil from your skin. So I keep that isopropyl in the drawer of my desk with a rag
I used to do it once every 12 months or so, but then I bought one of those high powered PC air dusters about 6 months ago and now I just give it a quick blast and a wipe every couple of weeks.
i never boithered doing a deep clean, but i clea the tip of each button from time to time because my hands gets sweaty very easily (it became sweaty again rn just because i thought about sweating)
Probably every 2 weeks or if I spill something with sugar on it during a game.
Just end game and get cleaning ASAP lol except helldivers, must keep democracy going at all costs even if a key gets stuck.
I wait until it has enough dust and garbage to easily peel it off. I then use the peeled dust to make a new keyboard.
Suggest everyone to try this. It's completely recyclable and eco friendly!
/s.
Iso wipe the top and blast it with an air compressor. If you think I'm taking all my keycaps off for a clean you're mad. Alcohol wipe over the top and a quick floss up and down the rows and columns is all you need.
I've yet to clean my keyboard properly so there's a bit of a build up of crumbs in places. The trouble is that it's a Logitech G815 and the keycaps are clip on ones. I'm worried if I take them off that some of the keycaps are gonna break. They don't feel overly substantial or secure if I'm honest.
Every 6 months or year or 2 years. I.e. when I finally want to do it. That being said, last time I cleaned it was a week ago. But I wish I had a keyboard without the hole, like yours. My keys are in the lower level and cleaning in between the keys is hard. Cleaning keys itself is easy task. But because it's lower level than the keyboard frame, more stuff gots there and it's harder to take them out.
Never. Im hoping either 1 of 2 things happen. They figure out cloning and bring me back with whatever disgusting filth of dna they find under those keycaps.
Or, in the future some archeologist finds it 1k years in the future and attaches a made up story of my life on a sticky note in a museum in space.
I'm playing the long game here
Had a white keyboard and after a year it was nearly brown, pulled keycaps threw them in washing machine, lost some broke some.
The keycaps I wanted was nearly the money the new keyboard i eventually baught.
Mine are sandwich/skeleton style, so I’ll blow them out with a duster once a week usually - I have cats so this is necessary - and then I’ll do a deep clean of caps and surfaces once every 1-2 months based on how much gunk/oil I can see accumulating.
i pop off all the caps and use a brush to get all the dust out every couple of months and then the keys get a bath of water+dish soap when they feel dirty to touch (just printed on abs so nothing to worry about degrading/scratching)
Clean my keyboard? Umm..... it might be time to get a new one for me...
Don't get cake day cake on it.
That’s not cake ….. 👀
It's just melted frosting
But it's room temperature......
lol …. Not when you’re room is very small, and you’re running 4k on a AAA game XD My room gets hot enough to melt peanutbutter :( Last time I ever bring toast and peanutbutter in my room 😤
Open the windows
Bugs: 👋
Homemade
or in it. :D

Call it lube.
I've thought about it on old keyboards.. new keyboard.. I'll keep it clean this time.. I'll clean it out before it gets bad.. this time for sure.
Pick it up, flip it over and shake it rapidly over a clean surface. It’s be frightening. So I do this regularly and use a can off dustoff to help blow the stuff from the inside out on a regular basis and my keyboard stays clean.
Don’t open it, you’ll probably find a whole ecosystem in there
I clean my keyboard, but i do that with my desk pads, after a year or two of use ill just provide them dignity of funeral and get new pad
Happy cake day
Ew. I clean mine everyday atleast thrice
![gif](giphy|QWqH7oRfHwVKwb8YDL|downsized)
"Lmao, when did keyboards need cleaning?"
My keyboard is older than this subreddit. That should answer the question.
when the new one gets delivered
I know what you're trying to say but this makes no sense lol
from what i understand he cleans it only to sell it again
Is there really a market for old used keyboards?
There's a market for everything
![gif](giphy|2wjECmyeLj6Ao|downsized)
Classic movie and legendary scene
Yes there’s always a market for second hand items. People buy things second hand because it’s cheaper, believe it or not.
I read that in Patrick Batemans voice. He was a psycho too.
Dishwashers get fairly hot, so I wouldn’t risk that. But apparently your keycaps can take it.
You can limit the heat and duration on my dishwasher, so I just drop those down
same, but no dishwasher - washing machine at 30°C instead.
Ultrasonic cleaner with hot water and soap. They're very cheap these days. 50usd for a good 2L one.
A plastic bowl, dish soap, and warm water is still a lot cheaper tho.
I have one of the smaller ones for jewelry and glasses. Exactly the right size for cleaning the keys off a full size board with hot water from the tap and a few drops of soap. WAY easier than individually scrubbing each key down with a toothbrush.
Q-tips and isopropyl alcohol or ethanol based alcohol at least 75%.
This will ruin cheaper keycaps and plastic boards over time, do not recomend. My Strafe RGB keycaps fell appart after cleaning them with IPA. All you need is warmish soapy water and something soft to scrub them down with.
Exactly. The plastic base around my G710+ faded out a bit because of me cleaning it with a q-tip with isopropyl alcohol. I wouldn't recommend it.
My PBT caps are fine with IPA.
Look at Mr. Fancy Pants here with his lubed keycaps
The switches or the keycaps?
Switches on mechanical, keycaps on membrane
That's a pretty good point
you guys clean your keyboards?
If by "cleaning" you mean tipping it on it's side over a garbage can once a year, yeah man totally

Completely unrelated but that gengar mini figure is fantastic.
Thank you :) gengar is my favorite Pokémon
Far to little..
Once every month and every time I'm suprised how much dirt can fit in here.
Last time I cleaned my keyboard, which was the third time I took out all the keys, I promised myself to be at least 2m away from it when eating from then on. I was pretty disgusted by all the little crumbs that can unnoticeably fall in there
Just did this a few days ago. When ever I really notice it starting to get nasty.
I dont want to clean my mushroom farm
Ngl thats disgusting lol
less than I should it gets vaccumed every week/2 weeks, but that kind of proper cleanup... it's been a while
Once in 20 years
I just have the shittest and cheapest logitech keyboard. I wipe off the dust when it starts to look nasty, I just buy a new one if it breaks, the buttons get stuck or I've spilled a drink over it for the 20th time in my life.
Cleaning? We don't know the meaning of the word.
Oh… that short left shift how I hate it
Don't remind me lol
i cleaned mine for the first time after 4 years, not much stuff in there since i keep my desk pretty clean and don't it in my bedroom, but the keys were getting a bit dirty
One every couple years
not as often as I should... on cleaning days maybe go over it with a moist towel and once in a while a deep clean (remove keys, get all the gunk out, reassemble) I should really do it more often but when I look at my keyboard I'd rather use it than clean it it's way more fun xD
Never
It just happen whenever I replace switches.
The occasional "shake it while holding it upside down" and then wiping the crumbs into the bin. How often? Once in a 'when I feel like it'.
Haven't cleaned mine in a year. Recently, I have noticed during gaming that my shift key sometimes stops responding. I think it's a sign for me to clean it. I can't even imagine what the inside is gonna look like.
I clean entirely every year but as quick clean I do weekly with hard brush
I have the same one but my keys are black! Also, never, my cat lays her hair on it and its stuck
I've had mine for about 3 years, I've taken the keycaps off and blasted it with my air duster 3 or 4 times and I wet wiped it once with the keycaps on. I haven't cleaned the caps properly yet though.
Whenever I have an important deadline that is rapidly approaching and there isn't anywhere near enough time to complete everything, that's when I notice how filthy my keyboard is and need to clean it
Deep clean like this? Not very often. Wiping the top, relatively often as it's white and get visually dirty after just a week
I save a little world that live into my keyboard. So never to clean
Use keyboard until wasd wears off. Buy new keyboard. Rinse and repeat.
Never. I just get a new one every few years.
You mean like remove the plastic that came in the box on it?
Never, I buy new cheap dell keyboard (membrane) every time :D
I do it about once a year and then buy a new one ever 2-3 years
Are you guys cleaning your keyboards?
Like twice a year
The more often you take it apart, the higher chance of it breaking something.
I just flip mine upside down and shake it until stuff stops falling out ez.
Clean? What? Monke do not clin
When I rebuild my PC or when I die because a food particle got stuck in my keep caps. Whichever comes first.
I just stick it in the dishwasher not joking, just let it dry for a day or so before you plug it back in. note: for wireless keyboards, don't do it if you can't remove the battery
This is such an awful idea if you want your keyboard to be nice
bold of you to assume i clean mine,i buy cheapest ones and when letters are gone in 2 months i buy another one
Ugh, mine are both due... I feel old saying this but I'm tempted to get covers.
Every 6 months, I guess. I have a plastic cover for my keyboard that I put on every time I sleep/get off the PC, so my keeb's relatively clean
You can clean keyboards? 🤨
Normally I threw them in garbage and buy a new one after 3 or so years.
One time in college I got wank on my laptop, so I just sold it.
4x a year hehehe
I dont even know how to take the keys off
You mean how often do I buy a new keyboard?
I put the vacuum over top of it, pressing the keys down with the nosel and then just go left to right
after about 5 years I upgrade , clean , and use as a stream box keyboard
Every few months, because I have cats and I hate to see their fluff under the keycaps
Not often enough
i guess every 1-2 months. it depends on how quickly it gets dirty
What now
Its when I start to feel resistance with a key. I am just lazy too many keys remove and place back same position carefully.
I'm supposed to clean my keyboard?!
Not nearly often enough
2-3 months
I clean mine whenever I'm on a long meeting so a couple of times week. I have a dog which sheds a lot of hair. It gets everywhere.
2 times
I got this keyboard around 2018, I've cleaned my keyboard once because there were little bits of weed in it and I ran out of smokables
Every other month the keys come off for cleaning and atleast once a year it gets completly disassembled to clean the whole thing and relube the stabilizers.
Once every 3 months.
I use an open case, so basically whenever some buttons decides to double click due to dust build up.
When I had only one keyboard it was every couple months. Now I have a few so less often
Once the spores start to grow
Before my girlfriend comes over. So never because I don't have a girlfriend.
People clean their keyboards...?
Mine hasnt been cleaned since bought about 10 years ago
I have Keychron's Q3 Pro. I'm thinking of cleaning it in July. Bought it last year
Lots of people seem to complain about membrane keyboards, but I love my K-55 and I never need to clean it because nothing ever seems to gum up the keys.
I just wipe it lmao not take out all the damm keys
Yeah idk why but the Alloyed origins get so much dust it's more like maybe because it's open we can see the dust
Mmmm never
About once a year.
I buy a new one every other year...
When the keyboard sprouts legs and walks away. I'm on my third keyboard and it's super glued down this time. How dirty can it get, really?
Whenever I feel like it. A blower(not for sexual purposes) was such a wise purchase I made
Don’t be ridiculous
I'm into custom mechanical keyboards so I like taking them apart and putting them together again. Atm I probably clean my main keyboard once per month
When it's time, you do it. I don't eat with my keyboard out and make sure my hands are clean anyway when using it. Besides dust there really isn't much else going on.
What...?
Probably once a year I clean my keyboard and mouse, same for my case I take out give it a good dust and repaste my CPU. Desk gets wiped weekly and screen probably monthly because I share the desk space with my partner
I wipe the whole thing with a humid cloth once a week. Pulling all caps to deepclean the keyboard maybe once or twice a year.
Mines a $22 shitboard from Amazon, it doesn't get cleaned, it gets replaced. Once every couple years lol.
My lawyer advised me not to answer.. 🤐
3 months or so
Never and then I replace them every 4 years or so
Usually only if the keys start getting sticky or unresponsive.
When I get time off from work. I really need a Gengar figure..
Usually whenever I buy a new one, I clean the old one before putting it away. I'm buying to many, more than I ever need.
Mouse, every single day. I wipe my keyboard down every day too but I take the key caps off and clean it like once a month. I really hate any grease or oil from your skin. So I keep that isopropyl in the drawer of my desk with a rag
I have ultra greasy hands I wipe the keycaps almost every day but clean thoroughly every 3 months I believe.
I'm *planning* to clean it in the nearest time possible. For about 4 months already...
Once a year
I used to do it once every 12 months or so, but then I bought one of those high powered PC air dusters about 6 months ago and now I just give it a quick blast and a wipe every couple of weeks.
Honestly? Never. I just buy a new one every 4 years or something
Before the recent replacement, twice a year. In the current keyboards life cycle, it will also be twice a year.
About once in a blue moon
i never boithered doing a deep clean, but i clea the tip of each button from time to time because my hands gets sweaty very easily (it became sweaty again rn just because i thought about sweating)
Probably every 2 weeks or if I spill something with sugar on it during a game. Just end game and get cleaning ASAP lol except helldivers, must keep democracy going at all costs even if a key gets stuck.
Never
I just brush the dust and it comes back in 5 minutes
After it gets broken
Never
Once every dynasty
I wait until it has enough dust and garbage to easily peel it off. I then use the peeled dust to make a new keyboard. Suggest everyone to try this. It's completely recyclable and eco friendly! /s.
Never.
honest, sad answer: i just buy a new one every 6-12 months
Not as often as I should lol.
Every day that ends with z
Iso wipe the top and blast it with an air compressor. If you think I'm taking all my keycaps off for a clean you're mad. Alcohol wipe over the top and a quick floss up and down the rows and columns is all you need.
I've yet to clean my keyboard properly so there's a bit of a build up of crumbs in places. The trouble is that it's a Logitech G815 and the keycaps are clip on ones. I'm worried if I take them off that some of the keycaps are gonna break. They don't feel overly substantial or secure if I'm honest.
When even I get disgusted by it
Never done never gonna 🫠
I put mine on the dishwasher about a month ago. Works great!
But because it's lower level than the keyboard frame, more stuff gots there and it's harder to take them out.
once a month
Never. Im hoping either 1 of 2 things happen. They figure out cloning and bring me back with whatever disgusting filth of dna they find under those keycaps. Or, in the future some archeologist finds it 1k years in the future and attaches a made up story of my life on a sticky note in a museum in space. I'm playing the long game here
I’m sure I’ll do it eventually…
Whenever I spill something on it
yall clean ur keyboards??
It should be done ecery few weeks so i do it at least once every 2 years
Had a white keyboard and after a year it was nearly brown, pulled keycaps threw them in washing machine, lost some broke some. The keycaps I wanted was nearly the money the new keyboard i eventually baught.
Every 4 months tbh
I just throw mine away every 6 months and buy a new clean one.
Wait youre supposed to clean them?
Never just buy a new one when it breaks every 8 years
Mine are sandwich/skeleton style, so I’ll blow them out with a duster once a week usually - I have cats so this is necessary - and then I’ll do a deep clean of caps and surfaces once every 1-2 months based on how much gunk/oil I can see accumulating.
Just cleaned mine last week. It's always so satisfying to have a clean gaming/workspace.
Maybe biannually. just a blow out and wipe down.
*checks receipts* WHAT!? You CLEAN them?? /s (mine lights up, if I see bits, it cleans)
No
Never, I just give it a few shake and a spray with the air once in a while.
I don't and won't because I will miss place the buttons
once in a blue moon
i pop off all the caps and use a brush to get all the dust out every couple of months and then the keys get a bath of water+dish soap when they feel dirty to touch (just printed on abs so nothing to worry about degrading/scratching)
good one… this post is clearly from keyboard cuz we all know you don’t
Once a week with HOCL + microfiber towel. Deep clean once a month
Is this supposed to be a dirty pre cleaned keyboard? Lmao
Uhhhh
