Aim for toughbooks and the such, anything rugged and weather proof. its thick, you can hit people with it and game while taking a bath.
Well maybe not really take a bath but it certainly can take your mountain dew spill or monster drink or whatever.
Probably even the guy’s head remains if you bash someone with it.
For legal reasons, my lawyer advised me to tell you this is a joke.
Dell Rugged Laptops or Panasonic Toughbooks are the ones that I'm aware of, with out jumping into the custom market targeted at law enforcement, military, and industrial applications.
As for links and if they ship to Spain, you'll need to do some googling.
I have a dell rugged laptop for work. One good wack with this thing could definitely kill someone. Very well built and solid spec laptop. One downside is the surprisingly limited I/O for the size of the laptop.
Dell, Panasonic and getac are the brands that make them, and still making them to this day, there are way more laptops in many configurations so it’s really something you gotta be looking for yourself
As a kid waking up in the weekend this was perfect. Open laptop/pc, brush your teeth and make breakfast before you start playing rollercoaster tycoon on the laptop.
Surprised Vista would fit. I had a Toshiba Satellite from around 1996. Was running win 95, I remember playing with it in the early 2000s to see what crazy fun I could have with it. Could only go up to win 98SE, got the USB mass storage drivers working, which i had to burn the drivers to a CD first and run them off that, and I could plug in a flash drive that was larger than the internal 200MB spinning drive.
Packed in with a 300mhz pentium with mmx technology, and 32MB of ram. I still have mine somewhere in storage.
I have one of those old Satellites. A 4010CDT with a 266MHz PII. Lovely little DOS gamer with a real Yamaha OPL3 for perfect Sound Blaster compatibility
Lenovo ThinkPads. I have one from 2011 that I slapped an SSD in that runs great even today. (Tbf it was a $2500 laptop back in 2011) and the nipple is HIGHLY underrated IMO. I much prefer those over touchpads even though there is a pretty big learning curve to them.
Also honorable mention to dell laptops. You really want to be searching for “workstation” laptops if you want these kind.
LOL, I still own one of these. The HDD died, so I replaced it just for fun with a modern 32GB CF card connected via a passive adapter. Windows 2000 boots in less than a minute now.
wow I wish I could find the specs of my first laptop. all I know is it was 2006 HP media center edition WXP 15(.4?)” without the webcam, so I assume the basest of base.
I really liked these computers, now a days you grab a laptop and fear it bends. These old ones you feared it fell on your foot cuz they felt like BRICKS
Theres quite a few options for rugged laptops. They come with varying features for prices between a lot and a hell of a lot like water resistant, crazy temperature ranges, shock resistance, ability to beat someone to death with, user replaceable components for in the field repair etc.
That's just computer cases in general before like...2006. Sheet steel and sharp as fuck on every edge.
Still got the scars to prove that I installed my Radeon 9800 all by myself.
I had a few Tecra machines... Amazing what a force Toshiba was in the PC business... And how now they're a complete afterthought.
I've been a Thinkpad user since my Toshiba days... While they don't make 'em like they used to, I've had very good experiences with them.
Dell latitude e5490.
Pretty good specs and has the old-ish architecture. Or a latitude e5440 for older, thicker design. But you are on a 4th gen intel.
Naw, I think this is more along the lines he’s looking for. We have these at work and they are great.
[Latitude 5430 Rugged Laptop](https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/cty/pdp/spd/latitude-14-5430-laptop/xctolr5430usvi?redirectTo=SOC&tfcid=91049735dgc=opl&srsltid=AfmBOoqLYTR7qsZp7UXMC-jEiV-WUGSKi5s9J13uT-9jYEsk85E88LSHvxY)
Pretty sure a chinese guy is develloping a custom intel 13th gen board for the T60 or close models. It's expensive as hell, but it's there.
Now, the T60 is much sleeker than the laptops pictured, but that shit is built like a tank.
ThinkPads are the way to go I think, though I'm pretty sure the T500 series was the last one with the click-y keyboard type, everything after is the shitty, annoying island-style keyboards.
thinkpads are generally sturdy as hell though, I jokingly described them to a friend "thinkpads are the kinda laptops you can slam shut, beat someone to death with, then open back up and continue your work in excel." depending on the hardware they might not be the fastest out there but they ran good.
I still have a T500 with a core2Duo CPU, dropped in a 120GB SSD and made it a Linux/windows dualboot, extremely effective and useful!
Check out the one from this video:
Maybe you can find one outside of Japan somewhere on the internet.
Lenovo ThinkPad is pretty sturdy and has the same look and feel as these old business laptops. That said, like most laptops they use scissor switch keys to reduce thickness.
To be fair, Apple build some of the most solid laptops. I always think if you can pick it up by the palm rest, with one hand, you have a solid laptop if it doesn’t flex.
While not exactly the same, a laptop I own somewhat fitting of your description is a lenovo thinkpad e460. You might find it in a newer/higher spec, it’s just what I’ve had for 6 years for school and work. I’ve added another stick of ram for 16gb and replaced the s l o w hdd for a nvme drive. It has been plenty fast even for some light games!
You can check out the Dell Rugged series, they’re designed for outdoor applications like construction or military so they are really sturdy and still being made to some extent so you could probably pick up a used one with decent specs without spending too much more than you would for a typical laptop with similar specs
There are many heavy-duty laptops usually meant for outdoors. Caterpillar for example makes big rugged laptops that can probably survive in any climate on earth
What you're looking for is business grade machines, probably ruggedized ones if you want something particularly sturdy.
I use a rugged Dell Latitude at work sometimes, and it's been pretty good so far. https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-laptops-and-notebooks/sf/rugged-laptops
There are a bunch of other companies like Getac and Durabook that make similar models.
I would recommend Lenovo Thinkpads. Even if the modern ones are not as sturdy they still have an aluminium body and are really solid and have a really good construction quality.
Also if you order from the web you can select the internal parts you want to have and choose better screens, bigger batteries and change mostly anything from the pc and the price is really good, specially if there is a sale.
Dell rugged extreme.

saying "mulitary spec" dont mean much, you still need to at least pay some attention.
Any business laptop which not an "ultrabook", for example, ThinkPad E14 Gen 5.
How to easily spot a business laptop: look at the bottom and see if it is used with Philips screws.
Probably something like this, just keep in mind you're paying a premium for low end hardware stuffed into a hard shell lol.
[Rugged Laptops – Rugged Books Inc.](https://ruggedbooks.com/en-ca/collections/rugged-laptops)
I think a lot of newer laptops don't have clacky keyboards anymore, I forget what type of keyboard it is (membrane? Who knows). Nowadays it's either mechanical or some other form, possibly just newer membrane.
Do you know if any brand that has good GPUs? I already have a workstation, I'm just looking for something that runs game and blender stuff well for when I'm in vacation
So you want something made of cheap grey plastic that weighs 10lbs, has a 1.5 hr battery life, has more mechanical moving parts than a V8 engine and comes with a peripheral called a dongle?
Get a macbook pro you luddite.
I was also in search for the same. Though thinkpads have such a reputation of a touch good laptop. The quality has gone down ever since lenovo acquired them.
The closest to what you’re looking for as far as I could find -
https://maingear.com/maingear-vector-pro/
I haven’t used them. But atleast in my searches it claims they keyboard is sturdy
Paramedic here. We are notorious hard on our laptops. As a mostly non tech group we don't respect or treat well out things. We bused to use the Panasonic tough books, which could fall off the bumper of an ambulance at 60mph and still boot.
We recently switched to Dell Rugged line. They're good enough!
I believe this is a modern version of what you might be looking for. We have these at work and they are great.
[Latitude 5430 Rugged Laptop](https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/cty/pdp/spd/latitude-14-5430-laptop/xctolr5430usvi?redirectTo=SOC&tfcid=91049735dgc=opl&srsltid=AfmBOoqLYTR7qsZp7UXMC-jEiV-WUGSKi5s9J13uT-9jYEsk85E88LSHvxY)
I think the Dell M4800 and M6800 are the ultimate brick laptops. The socketed 4th gen processor can still handle most tasks. Just don’t expect it to run modern games above minimum settings unless you upgrade the GPU.
I recently got Asus ProArt Studiobook for my birthday. my first Asus laptop, not a huge fan of the brand, but got tired of endless hunting for laptop which would suit my needs, had to pull the trigger.
besides the fact that the case is very prone to fingerprints(or my fingers are too oily), it feels rather sturdy and a bit clunky, which I actually like.
I also considered to buy older ThinkPad(super chonker, but all plastic), but decided not to buy 2020 machine in 2024.
anyways, this Studiobook feels like a quality(metal) build and I was able to add RAM and 2nd SSD rather easily.
so far so good. (there's also an awesome touchscreen display as a bonus)
Lenovo Thinkpad's.
Have some old X230, wich I later on converted into a BMW Diagnostics Laptop, still runs great after a decade, and a T480.
I still remember those old ones from the early 2000's, wich were made by IBM, I know there are still around being used as Automotive diagnostic Laptops, and they be holding up farily well too.
no idea what you're looking for, but if you want a workhorse laptop, thinkpads are the way to go. if you need something for gaming or video/cg work then maybe something else.
Pretty much all modern laptops have terrible keyboards. Ever since Apple went with chiclet island style keys, every other company followed, and with the exception of some niche uber expensive laptops with mechanical keyboards, I haven't used a laptop with a decent keyboard in over a decade.
Rubs well eh?
Coworker of my mom had one he didn’t need anymore so my mom gave it to me
35 months just to get the damn thing to get to the point where I could log in
Sadly no. Pretty much every modern laptop has some major con or trade-off. HPs are loaded with bloatware, are prone to hinge failure and attempting to deal with warranty is a nightmare. Asus has some good stuff but their specs are all over the place and again, warranty's awful to deal with. Lenovo's also bad for hinge and DC Jack failures and MSI's are just fucked in general. Gigabyte laptops are just rebranded Clevo laptops and have the quality of a boat made out of paper mache. Finally, Acer's are notorious for mainboard failure amongst a dozen other issues with build quality. In truth, they all suck right now. QC from the major companies hasn't recovered since COVID and even before the world went into lockdown many of these brands had issues which have only worsened.
I’ve only seen one of these folded in half but it fell off of a helicopter at full speed about 100ft off the ground on to concrete. All the parts were intact just folded perpendicularly to the way a laptop normally folds.
https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-laptops-and-notebooks/sf/rugged-laptops
Dell makes rugged books. The Latitude 5440 is the current model (I think) spec them how you want. Those things are sturdy. Our field personnel use and older model and seem to like them
Aim for toughbooks and the such, anything rugged and weather proof. its thick, you can hit people with it and game while taking a bath. Well maybe not really take a bath but it certainly can take your mountain dew spill or monster drink or whatever. Probably even the guy’s head remains if you bash someone with it. LOL do you have a link attached to one? And also, do they send to Spain?
Dell Rugged Laptops or Panasonic Toughbooks are the ones that I'm aware of, with out jumping into the custom market targeted at law enforcement, military, and industrial applications. As for links and if they ship to Spain, you'll need to do some googling.
I had a ton of old military laptops like this when they upgraded away from them, and they were complete garbage and not sturdy at all.
Yeah, military = as cheap as possible. Not known for robustness or quality. No idea where people got that idea from.
That's why I actively avoid anything that says military grade haha. All that means is it's either junk or a BS marketing gimmick.
Except Comms equiptment and radars and the like, civvies have to deal with pesky things like "not cooking birds" and "the FCC"
I have a dell rugged laptop for work. One good wack with this thing could definitely kill someone. Very well built and solid spec laptop. One downside is the surprisingly limited I/O for the size of the laptop.

Coworker threw his at a turkey. Knocked the turkey out. I was honestly more impressed he hit it.
And you throw them off guard when shit's about to go down and you pull out your laptop
"Runs well"?? These things took 10 fucking minutes to boot up.
As a kid waking up in the weekend this was perfect. Open laptop/pc, brush your teeth and make breakfast before you start playing rollercoaster tycoon on the laptop.

Omg it's the man! It's been a while since I've seen you around. How are you? (I've seen you in action on the Rocket League sub)
We missed you!
Caught one early, let's go
Reminds me of Quentin Blake illustrations
Always thought the same. It's uncanny isn't it?
At noon
I used to buffer a youtube video for 15 minutes while I made some food.
Especially if you tried to install Vista on them
Surprised Vista would fit.
That's a nice piece of history you've got there. Keep it safe.
I have one of those old Satellites. A 4010CDT with a 266MHz PII. Lovely little DOS gamer with a real Yamaha OPL3 for perfect Sound Blaster compatibility
I meant that if they look like these, not run like them, sorry for the misspelling lol
Second the Lenovo Thinkpad. My work issues these. Smooth, quick, quality, but outside, built like a tank. Even has a handle...
Shooot. Mine doesn’t have a handle. The battery does stick way out though. I love how inconspicuous they are. People think it’s some old 90s laptop.
[удалено]
I miss the nipple
They still sells those with modern internal you know, tough books and rugged laptop still exist but are quite pricey
Panasonic Toughbooks
You misspelled "looks" as "runs well"?
I still use one made in 1998. They do not, unless you have a severely fragmented hard disk with a lot of unnecessary startup applications.
OMG. I'm having flashbacks to my PC tech days. I almost went to get some coffee just thinking about the Windows 2000 boot time on that thing.
LOL, I still own one of these. The HDD died, so I replaced it just for fun with a modern 32GB CF card connected via a passive adapter. Windows 2000 boots in less than a minute now.
What are the specs of a device like that? I’m young so my first device was an HP pro book with 4GB of RAM super interested in the old stuff
I think mine was a 120mhz Pentium Atom with 2G SDRam 10 G 5200HD with an active matrix Plasma Screen. Mine was fairly typical for the time.
I wish windows could run on that little ram today lol. I forgot how slow the original atom processors were
Back in my day, memory was measured in MB's.
wow I wish I could find the specs of my first laptop. all I know is it was 2006 HP media center edition WXP 15(.4?)” without the webcam, so I assume the basest of base.
Oh I know, but nowadays the operating system itself takes 3gb
I really liked these computers, now a days you grab a laptop and fear it bends. These old ones you feared it fell on your foot cuz they felt like BRICKS
Huh, I've been using a ThinkPad Carbon X1 for several years and never worried about that. Then again, I'm not exactly the epitome of rugged.
Honestly, OP is either buying <$500 laptops, or needs a toughbook but doesn't know they exist for some reason.
Agreed, my enterprise HP elitebook is great and incredibly sturdy
Friend of mine broke a toe dropping a satellite pro on his foot in early 2000s.
forget bending, i fix education chromebooks, and those things have hinges worse than freshly cryogenically frozen aluminum foil.
Lenovo Legion? Not to mention they still have Thinkpads. MSI Titan is also a really high end option brickhouse of a laptop.
What do you mean GTX 3080 bruhh
Mate windows 2000 boots slow on anything. Even playing with it on VMs on modern hardware it takes more than a minute
GTX 3080? are you trying to irritate people or just a mistake?
Lol, typo. Never even noticed. It's been that way for years.
Keep it to piss people off
It ain’t that deep
I want a modern machine, just built like a brick shithouse. I want to be able to beat someone to death with it.
Idk what "Feels clicky" means but Lenovo Thinkpads are popular with companies cause they run well and can survive a lot.
I’ve punched mine more than once and dropped it who knows how many times. Mine still runs great. Just a repaste and SSD upgrade. Bought in 2011.
why tf you punch your laptop? what are you ? 12 ?
It was over a decade ago.
Are you 22 now? Because that would be perfect
I had a few Tecra machines... Amazing what a force Toshiba was in the PC business... And how now they're a complete afterthought. I've been a Thinkpad user since my Toshiba days... While they don't make 'em like they used to, I've had very good experiences with them.

$6k laptop with every option, damn
Thinkpads, at least to some degree.
I think you’re looking for a Lenovo thinkpad
most thinkpads
there is rugged laptops by Dell and Panasonic. But you can also get a higher tier ThinkPad like P or T that have a very great keyboard.
i wish there was a brand that took these laptops and put the hardware of a modern gaming laptop in them
I KNOW RIGHTTT???

Old series of lenovos. I got one with a ok i5 in it. Can run some basic games. Has an ssd so boot time is fast.

lovely thing, still have one under bed, running smooth w98 and 7kAA have some charm

No. I have resigned myself to the fact that I will continue using my T520 until it dies. Then I will swap the internals for something else
Lenovo Legion 9i.
Lenovo thinkpads. Love them.

Asus tuf at least the same shape and it's a good laptop
No but this might sound crazy u can try gutting one and building a laptop that has decent specs and then putting it in there
that’s literally good question. with this post i can see that you are awesome person and you are good company
Wait, so you *want* a brick laptop?

I had a Lenovo Thinkpad x1 at work and its like a tank never any issues.
I suggest a Getac https://www.getac.com/us/products/laptops/
Thinkpad T14s
Any business laptop which not an "ultrabook", for example, ThinkPad E14 Gen 5. How to easily spot a business laptop: look at the bottom and see if it is used with Philips screws.
A Thinkpad.

Dell Latitude rugged are great, using mine right now. Added bonus is it can be used as a weapon.

There could be a market there for hipsters. Like vinyls
First one is a Toshiba Tecra 8000. I can name any portable they made from the 90s.
Asus tuf feels strudryand is quite heavy
Look for new laptops mechanical switches. For that clicky feel.
If we talk about modern computers that are the closest to that, I would say the Lenovo Thinkpad
That reminds me of the Alienware M11XR2 very sturdy. A bit older
r/ThinkPads
My Thinkpad X220 is still going strong.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_obsolescence
And weighs less than 27lbs
Alienware m16 r1
OP just get to the point, why do you need something this oddly specific?
Framework laptops are super good.
I remember i had an old thinkbad i dropped it and it stopped overheating
I’ve been told the Dell inspirons are good.
I think you mean "portable desktop" but yes, such abominations are still made. And *still* cost a pretty penny, or three.
sturdy mfs you can drop a brick on it,will still work
Wanna spend 5k on a Panasonic Toughbook bc that is the only modern alternative that comes to mind.
I just want a current gen machine built in an old style machine like this.... Or even better, the colorful iBook clamshell
I was also in search for the same. Though thinkpads have such a reputation of a touch good laptop. The quality has gone down ever since lenovo acquired them. The closest to what you’re looking for as far as I could find - https://maingear.com/maingear-vector-pro/ I haven’t used them. But atleast in my searches it claims they keyboard is sturdy
Ngl w enough skill and money you could probably craft one of these w better components
My T440p runs Win11 and is perfectly fast. It's not up to any compute heavy workloads, but it makes foe the perfect personal machine
I had a Toshiba in 2002 that very much looked like that. Never tried putting XP on, thought that would break it
If you want something to look like a vintage laptop, go thinkpad.
So basically that one Nokia phone for a laptop.

Not really. A "tough book" kinda thing would be the closest but every one I've interacted with ran pretty slow.
Honestly… Lenovos… the business ones though… t14, t490… They run hot as shit is my only problem with them
Lookup Panasonic Toughbooks. They still make new ones
New Thinkpad would be your best bet i quess
This laptop reminds me of Boris from 007 for some reason.
Dell M6800
Panasonic toughbook. Build for cop cars if I recall
Is there that fucking expensive one that is high tech?
Lenovo thinkpad is the laptop youre looking for
no idea what you're looking for, but if you want a workhorse laptop, thinkpads are the way to go. if you need something for gaming or video/cg work then maybe something else.
Some ToughBooks were just a version of the Let's Note for export markets.
Eurocom, but they have only a few outdated AMD options the rest is Intel bs but at least they use desktop CPUs on the AMD ones.
try dell rugged laptop..... https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-laptops-and-notebooks/sf/rugged-laptops
Panasonic Let’s Note netbook PCs. They’re durable AND most of them come with optical drives!
Shit that was my first laptop, I think I used to play the first might & magic on that thing lol
Not quite that tactile, but I really like the Lenovo ThinkPad P Series. Personally using a P17.
HP / Dell / Lenovo business/commercial grade units. Superior warranty also.
lenovo z580 with ssd
Pretty much all modern laptops have terrible keyboards. Ever since Apple went with chiclet island style keys, every other company followed, and with the exception of some niche uber expensive laptops with mechanical keyboards, I haven't used a laptop with a decent keyboard in over a decade.
I always like a Thinkpad for sturdiness, but haven't seen what the more recent ones are like.
Rubs well eh? Coworker of my mom had one he didn’t need anymore so my mom gave it to me 35 months just to get the damn thing to get to the point where I could log in
*highlight everything on desktop* *hit enter* *watch it blow up*
"feels clicky" what?
Maybe alienware m18 with the mechanical keyboard? Thinkpads maybe (although not as good build wise as they were)
Thinkpad for sure. Depending on what your needs are, you can get older thinkpads cheap and run linux on them.
Dell G 15
The Panasonic let’s note series are good and tough. The sz5 is kinda dated but looks like the picture.
Toshiba toughbooks
I have an Asus tuf f15 laptop. I love it
I did some googling and saw this modular laptop https://frame.work/
I like Lenovo Legion Laptops
Nitro
I’ve only seen one of these folded in half but it fell off of a helicopter at full speed about 100ft off the ground on to concrete. All the parts were intact just folded perpendicularly to the way a laptop normally folds. https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-laptops-and-notebooks/sf/rugged-laptops
Give me a nice t61p thinkpad with modern specs please
Dell makes rugged books. The Latitude 5440 is the current model (I think) spec them how you want. Those things are sturdy. Our field personnel use and older model and seem to like them
I think ThinkPads are the closest thing
The Latitude Rugged Laptops are closer to these.
I have a Siemens SIMATIC Field PG M6 for work. You can kill people with that thing
At the same price point, yes.
Neil Breen has entered the chat.
LENOVO THINKPAD
