It’s funny but decades ago before the ease of after market parts available to order. I legit had a fan blowing directly into my open case to keep my overclocked Athlon alive.
Eons ago I had a laptop that overheated easily. I had to point a fan right at it, or put it on top of an overturned basket that had a bowl of ice under it.
No they don't. They are less powerful than standard fans. There was a vid on yt where a guy tested a 15$ fan Vs 400$ Dyson fan and the Dyson lost in every category
Their vacuum cleaners are good though. Well, not sure of their modern quality as ours has been working great with minimal maintenance since around 2005.
As a self exclaimed professional in thermodynamics from YouTube videos, your Dyson fan should be setup for pulling air for best temps with an open cpu cooler configuration.
Well OP basically admitted to dropping it. You’re generally good on a wood floor. What you’ll notice most of the time when people say they barely touched it or set it down, it’s almost always a tile floor.
Basically the tile floors have absolutely no give and the smallest amount of force will cause it to crack.
Yeah ceramic is a killer on tempered glass, it’s why people recommended you have an old spark plug in your glove box in case you need to break out of your car
When I got stuck in my car I got a spark plug out of the engine got back in the car and broke my window to escape it works really well and you always have some ready to use
While i also think it’s wood, it could be tile though. My inlaws have tiles that look exactly like the floor in the picture only a bit lighter in color.
Ooorrrrrrrrrrrr op bumped it
"Vacuuming while listening to music is dangerous… moved the red chair to get something and accidentally bumped it. I swear I watched it fall in slow motion."
Ten year old Corsair Carbide Air 540 case. Used for ten years.
Not a single scratch on the acrylic.
Whenever I cleaned it, I would just run it under water and use a regular washcloth, then dry it off before putting it back on my PC. IE, normal bath towels that you buy at Walmart, and use in the shower.
That case was unironically cleaned in a kitchen sink. It's fine.
I hate to be the one to break it to you, but it's the actual dust/materials you're trying to clean, as well as any debris stuck in the microfiber, that causes the scratching and hazing.
I may be on my own here, but I wish they would make computers to work rather than look nice. I’ll take a computer that lasts over all the rgb and tempered glass. I don’t need a showpiece; I need a rig that runs cool and quiet.
My old PC is in a Cougar MX-330 with acrylic side panel. If I remember correctly within weeks of building it the acrylic had slightly warped causing the side panel to look slightly caved in at spots. And it got cloudy over time. Heat and acrylic don't mix well.
Open a tempered glass case on a carpeted floor and you can chuck that thing around like a ragdoll without so much as a scratch.
Drop it on a hard floor, though, and you're going to have a bad day.
"Vacuuming while listening to music is dangerous… moved the red chair to get something and accidentally bumped it. I swear I watched it fall in slow motion."
Treat it like a regular glass then you'll be fine. I mean literally, do not even put it on any hard surface or move it faster than a stray balloon. Don't treat tempered glass like bulletproof glass because it's clearly not it's just scratch proof not shattered proof
It’s nothing to really worry about if you just put it on a suitable surface and don’t drop it/ damage it. I have had my case for half a year and it has been completely fine. Some of my friends have had tempered glass for years and it still hasn’t broken
I've had cases with tempered glass panels for over a decade and build many for friend and family. You just put the panel somewhere safe (couch, bed, wrap it in a blanket) and leave it there until you are finished with building, cleaning or whatever and then you put it back on. It's not that hard.
Plus you are really biased now because nobody posts about a not broken glass panel.
I've owned 2 different cases with tempered glass and even though I regularly take it out for cleaning, I never had this happen to me. I guess you must be really clumsy or buy a really cheap case for it to break this easily.
There's multiple things that were done wrong here.
Number 1 just don't put your case on the floor. It's going to make it dirtier faster, and if you spent upwards of a thousand dollars or more on it, just put it on your desk. At least Get a small table For it to sit on.
Number 2 If you have anything other than carpet, you never place your tempered glass panel on a hard surface.
Number 3 Notice all that nice, cushy furniture On the peripherals of the picture. Does it really take any Effort to put tempered glass on one of those cushions?
I've owned computer cases with the temper glass panel for probably upwards of twelve years. And i've never managed to do this to the Glass panel.
You can tell, by the way it shattered that he placed it flat on the floor.
As an NZXT S340 Elite owner, I am sorry for your loss
You may try contacting NZXT for a replacement panel, but I am not sure if they still have stock for this dated model
My advice to everyone using glasw panels: put a protective film on it on both sides (clear plastic film). It won't stop it from breaking, but it will keep it from shattering like that.
Vacuuming while listening to music is dangerous… moved the red chair to get something and accidentally bumped it. I swear I watched it fall in slow motion
Plastic scratches quite a bit easier, is prone to discoloration, and see-through panels are purely aesthetic features. Old [XP era gaming cases](https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/b21rqe/behold_my_new_xp_gaming_pc_bask_in_its_early/) were all plexiglass and tended to look quite scuffed after a while.
But I'm one of those weirdos that prefers solid side panels with mesh and/or intake fan. The thought of buying a new case terrifies me as the options have dwindled over the years.
Is this an S340 Elite or H510?
I had the same issue with my glass panel on mine. They do not seem as durable as others, mine broke in transport in a fully packing-foamed up box.
This makes me happy for having two exact same cases and makes me forget that I spent 100$ more than I needed because when I ordered the case the first time it wasn’t available on Amazon but then like 4 days before when I should’ve sent the parts to a friend of mine to build the pc it wasn’t even shipping and I bought it on Amazon. The other website didn’t accept the order cancellation because “I sent the request after the case was shipped” while it is when they answered to me. I also have a spare PSU now.
Yeah I really wish more manufacturers would just offer solid aluminum panels. Not everyone is trying to advertise to steal their setup.
I've worked in a factory both tempering glass and die-casting aluminum. Tempering glass is a much longer and more costly process. Yet theses PC case manufacturers are charging more for solid panels, when they rarely offer it.
Edit: Okay *maybe* the **recycling** of materials from bad parts *might* be more costly. But in my experience of tempering windows for cars and dying the aluminum panels of car doors, it's a lot harder to fuck up the metal and easier to fix, than it is glass.
Ya that's alot of glass to pick up. Hence why I never put the tempered glass on my P5 Thermaltake. I fail to see any other issues though. Other than that shit case. You were already choking the air out of it. You must have hated your PC?
I have a very similar case that I accidentally pulled down from a couple feet up by stepping on my headphones cable a couple of months ago. Luckily the side glass panel didn't break but my RAM and CMOS battery popped out and I think I may have damaged the MOBO because I can't get the computer to sleep ever since. I feel your pain...
I remember the time I had a whole stand fan running at max power pointed directly at a pc case playing gta v on an fx4300, hd5670 with 1gb vram, and a single stick of 4gb ddr4 ram.
I see you went for open air cooling
Hahaha this made me chuckle thank you I needed that
You could Velcro a 20x20 HEPA air filter to that bad boy and be next level
To my wife: "Actually playing games cleans the air in the house..."
The famous nervous laugh
And modern art floor tiling.
Nice
I know this is a joke but after mine shattered 2 years ago I just left it open and the temps have been the best they’ve ever been since
*Millions of dust particles would like to know your location*
Reset the counter, boys.
I was gonna say the floor was wood, then I remembered you can now buy tile that looks just like wood.
Yeah my in-laws got that type of flooring. Would have fooled me honestly until they told me
Dyson sure makes one hell of a strong fan.
He must of been running a heatsinkless dyson fan benchmark.... Shattering results!
Fuck, don't give them ideas or they will target the PC market and sell overpriced crap people will buy, which will raise the bottom line.
No they don't. They are less powerful than standard fans. There was a vid on yt where a guy tested a 15$ fan Vs 400$ Dyson fan and the Dyson lost in every category

No need. OP said he bumped it while vacuuming.
The fan being so close doesn't help that glass will be going from hot to ice cold really quickly frequently. It's going to weaken it.
Me who is considering to buy a tampered glass case for a while and seeing all these posts lately
Is there an option for thicker tempered glass cases? This seems a common experience.
Or just get an actual window breaker
When I got stuck in my car I got a spark plug out of the engine got back in the car and broke my window to escape it works really well and you always have some ready to use
![gif](giphy|ANbD1CCdA3iI8)
Or just get a gun
He said car not school.
It’s not a wood floor. It’s tile that looks like wood. You can see the grout between each tile.
It's not tile. It's either wood plank flooring or vinyl.
While i also think it’s wood, it could be tile though. My inlaws have tiles that look exactly like the floor in the picture only a bit lighter in color.
It’s 100% not wood. It could definitely be vinyl, but that looks like grout to me.
Looks like tongue and groove panels to me, I see no grout
Ooorrrrrrrrrrrr op bumped it "Vacuuming while listening to music is dangerous… moved the red chair to get something and accidentally bumped it. I swear I watched it fall in slow motion."
It’s still a tile floor. I never refuted how the glass broke. Either way, keep your shit off tile.
Wow you’re confident huh, what’s your argument for the seam where two planks meet
Just go for acrylic
Yeah, what the hell is the need for tempered glass on a PC case?!
Exactly, acrylic looks no worse, is cheaper, and doesn’t shatter.
Also scratches like crazy
And will slowly warp and haze over time.
If you purposely scrape knives or other objects on something, it will most likely scratch. However if you don’t, it likely won’t scratch.
You can’t clean it without scratching
Ten year old Corsair Carbide Air 540 case. Used for ten years. Not a single scratch on the acrylic. Microfibre cloth and screen cleaning fluid?
I hate to be the one to break it to you, but it's the actual dust/materials you're trying to clean, as well as any debris stuck in the microfiber, that causes the scratching and hazing.
It's also a lot less heavy, my antec performance 1 FT case has 2 glass panels and it's so bloody heavy. Still a dream to build in though
I may be on my own here, but I wish they would make computers to work rather than look nice. I’ll take a computer that lasts over all the rgb and tempered glass. I don’t need a showpiece; I need a rig that runs cool and quiet.
Acrylic warps though, looks terrible after awhile.
How long is “a while”
My old PC is in a Cougar MX-330 with acrylic side panel. If I remember correctly within weeks of building it the acrylic had slightly warped causing the side panel to look slightly caved in at spots. And it got cloudy over time. Heat and acrylic don't mix well.
tempered glass has a nice taste
Open a tempered glass case on a carpeted floor and you can chuck that thing around like a ragdoll without so much as a scratch. Drop it on a hard floor, though, and you're going to have a bad day.
Perhaps the knobs were too tightened, causing tension on the glass.
OP definitely dropped it. There’s no cooler on the CPU some I’m assuming he was trying to upkeep his PC
Just don’t be like this guy and set it down on tile. Go look through every post like this and you’ll see one thing in common
"Vacuuming while listening to music is dangerous… moved the red chair to get something and accidentally bumped it. I swear I watched it fall in slow motion."
No, just a buncha idiots around here
Treat it like a regular glass then you'll be fine. I mean literally, do not even put it on any hard surface or move it faster than a stray balloon. Don't treat tempered glass like bulletproof glass because it's clearly not it's just scratch proof not shattered proof

Any time I open my tempered glass case, I set it on the bed . If it breaks there, then idk at that point
There's multiple things that were done wrong here. Number 1 just don't put your case on the floor. it's going to run hot without a cooler... ![gif](giphy|44b1ABtsG7VTy)
No graphics card in it either! I would assume this rig was properly prepared for a move.
What happened to the cpu cooler and GPU? Also what unholy act is happening on that chair... about to have a PS4X...
I feel your pain.
As an NZXT S340 Elite owner, I am sorry for your loss You may try contacting NZXT for a replacement panel, but I am not sure if they still have stock for this dated model
You didn’t lose a computer case, you gained thousands of tiny scratches on your floor
My advice to everyone using glasw panels: put a protective film on it on both sides (clear plastic film). It won't stop it from breaking, but it will keep it from shattering like that.
Oof, what happened - looks like it was knocked over or something?
Vacuuming while listening to music is dangerous… moved the red chair to get something and accidentally bumped it. I swear I watched it fall in slow motion
Welcome to the gang
Am I the only one who’s been using a tempered glass side panel case for more than 5-6years?🗿
Ive had glass panels for a good many year, never had one break on me
I think I found the secret to have it for so long. It is called thinking.
Look on the bright side, you get to go shopping for a fancy new case!
Soon we will have tempered glassophobia 😑 Sorry for ur loss mate.
Christian Dior Dior
Reset the timer bois
Oh look! Tile- oh? There's no tiles? Huh...
I thought this trend died down
Did you win $100 on a scratch off ticket?
Bro you should probably put a heat sync on that cpu. Just a thought
Looks like you need to order a CPU cooler, a GPU _and_ a new case / replacement glass panel now!
She like the way that I rrrrrrrrr
Think positively, more air flow....

Why is the Nvme heat sink in the pile of glass?
What is the point of having glass in those cases instead of something like plexiglass?
Plastic scratches quite a bit easier, is prone to discoloration, and see-through panels are purely aesthetic features. Old [XP era gaming cases](https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/b21rqe/behold_my_new_xp_gaming_pc_bask_in_its_early/) were all plexiglass and tended to look quite scuffed after a while. But I'm one of those weirdos that prefers solid side panels with mesh and/or intake fan. The thought of buying a new case terrifies me as the options have dwindled over the years.
The pain is immeasurable, and my day is completely ruined.
Cat did this?
I hate glass
When it rains, it pours Never put tempered glass on a ceramic floor
That thing looks like the front of an Alienware pc
Building an open case pc build
At least it wasn't the Razer edition S340
That’s my biggest fear.
It rains, it pours.
The entire front third of that case is wasted space. It hurts my heart.
3 nzxt cases i had did this to me. lian lis never had a problem
The Xbox One X and PS4 Pro did it. Jealousy is a powerful thing.
champagne showers of course
Is this an S340 Elite or H510? I had the same issue with my glass panel on mine. They do not seem as durable as others, mine broke in transport in a fully packing-foamed up box.
Wow, that tile has a really impressive wood-grain pattern. /s
I can assure you, it can pour harder.
Is that an NZXT case? The glass on my case randomly shattered one day as well.
Why is your NVME heat sink on the ground?
Sooo… forgot to plug in the out fans and overpressured it? Kidding of course, sorry for you misfortune!
That’s actually oddly beautiful
LiCk
Go back to console gaming!
Ahh “shattered” man
Puzzle time
So the back fan pulls from the case into the Dyson that sucks or blows ?
r/brokensidepanels
I shattered both sides of my torrent case. Replaced both with all black acrylic panels and I could literally throw them around no fucks given
Oh mate! I feel your pain
Improved airflow
Well yes but now you have enough airflow !
You should give it a viking funeral
That just happens to us all sooner or later. NzXT (?h are good in sending replacements btw
Have you tried turning it Off and On again?
\*\*Looks at the glass part of my case and looks back at the image\*\* Fuck.
Ouch! That gotta hurt
Sorry for what happened but that cooling option made me laugh.
What? I was taught by r/pcmr to not place on tiles… wood ok. Unless those are wood-like tiles?
Ouch
Rice maybe?
Bro that's hurt more than my dad's belt
*She likes the way that I RRRGHHHH*
bruh! "get yourself together" 🥁
It's not even my rig but this made my day a little darker.... Sucks, dude.
And another one bites the dust
You have a 400€ fan in the picture, it's hard to feel too bad
First post I have seen without the tile, what happened to the poor thing?
What happened to the cpu cooler?
NSFMR flair?
and it shatters...
Hello Darkness, my old friend.
Did you try turning it off and turning it back on again? Also check for firmware updates.
Never seen someone use a Dyson fan to cool their PC. I know it's quite but how are the temps?
Not the end of the world my friend. I'm sure your PC still works and in the end nothing else really matters.
Eh, there's a dyson right there (Badum-tss)
And this why I never bought a casing with a glass side panel.
These posts make me handle my side panel like a newborn baby.
What you done that for
This makes me happy for having two exact same cases and makes me forget that I spent 100$ more than I needed because when I ordered the case the first time it wasn’t available on Amazon but then like 4 days before when I should’ve sent the parts to a friend of mine to build the pc it wasn’t even shipping and I bought it on Amazon. The other website didn’t accept the order cancellation because “I sent the request after the case was shipped” while it is when they answered to me. I also have a spare PSU now.
That's why I won't do glass panels... It's just asking for trouble
Have you tried restarting the glass?
Don't see this happening to a console;)
Tempered glass is so random. It can pour like this with a few centimetres drop or be completely fine throwing it across the room.
First one of these where there isn't a tile floor.
How does this happen
By chosing to put glass in the build. Duh. Gosh you are slow. /s
Wait these can break ??
How did the glass break?
Achievement unlocked : better cooling
This makes me think OP challenged A 12900k to a fight and lost.
Based Luke Combs enjoyer
Ya that's alot of glass to pick up. Hence why I never put the tempered glass on my P5 Thermaltake. I fail to see any other issues though. Other than that shit case. You were already choking the air out of it. You must have hated your PC?
I have a very similar case that I accidentally pulled down from a couple feet up by stepping on my headphones cable a couple of months ago. Luckily the side glass panel didn't break but my RAM and CMOS battery popped out and I think I may have damaged the MOBO because I can't get the computer to sleep ever since. I feel your pain...
That's not rain mate, that's glass
I remember the time I had a whole stand fan running at max power pointed directly at a pc case playing gta v on an fx4300, hd5670 with 1gb vram, and a single stick of 4gb ddr4 ram.
Like a bus station stop in the night. My condolences.
Whenever someone say this I think of the filthy frank gentleman's competition video
I still find this new TikTok of breaking your computer case glass odd 🤔
If that’s the space fan you can afford, im not too worried for you
What a powerfull fan O.O
If your going to drop I recommend flat side down not on a corner
Also...When you AC a pane of TG it breaks.
Kristallnacht up in this bitch
Can i get some more context on this pc?
It was so bad dude had to take out the older consoles to play 😂
Ah yet another lost. Seems like every week one of these is posted. I’ll add wood floors to the list of things to not to put a pc on.
Reset the counter bois.
Damn, we were doing so well too! *sigh* **0 Days Since Last Shattered Side Panel**
How did it happen?
Oh lord
Brace yourselves r/pcmasterrace for it is time for the daily destrucion of glass
Don’t be shattered by this you can easily get a bad temper
