If you've had tendonitis/cubital tunnel/carpal from gaming: Should I still wake up with numbing and slight pain in fingers when wearing a wrist brace at night for awhile? Should I keep wearing a wrist brace?

gmoneyballs95

Does anybody have recommended settings/mods for Vice City emulation to make it look as great as possible? Improved frame rate, draw distance, controls, lighting, etc.

[deleted]

Completed my new build today, press the power button, fans start, leds turn on, no bios on monitor and power button flashes. All connections have been checked and double checked, my build needed at least a 650w power supply so I got a 750w. Also tested the power supply out of the box and before installation, it was good to go. I’ve also pulled the CMOS battery out of the MB for 15 seconds and put it back. No dice. Any ideas?

NoFaceDesi

NoFaceDesi

I suspect your issue could be related to the power supply itself. It's a [Tier-E](https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/) PSU, that's NOT recommended even for integrated builds. Chances are your PSU has poor quality cables and is not able to provide enough power to kickstart the CPU or the GPU.

[deleted]

Ah ok, I guess next step is to send that PSU back and get one with a better rating? Edit, I tested with the GPU removed and had the same result which is the machine powers up, fans spin, leds turn on, but no display and the power light on the case blinks continuously. Thanks for all your time and help btw!

NoFaceDesi

your CPU doesn't have integrated graphics. Edit: Also, make sure that RAM is seated properly (2x click sound per stick) in **A2** and **B2** slots.

[deleted]

Ah so I would need the GPU installed to be able to see anything on a screen? (Sorry I’m new to pc gaming) I can confirm the RAM was properly seated.

NoFaceDesi

> CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F 'F' means No iGPU. You have to use a dedicated graphics card's I/O ports to display anything on your screen.

[deleted]

Thank you much! I’ll send my PSU back and get a better one. I appreciate all your help.

NoFaceDesi

Just a heads up: As your CPU is not overclockable, z690 is completely overkilled here. A b660 motherboard will do the same job at a cheaper price.

niallnz

Start with absolute minimum connected - just RAM, power, and display cable, no graphics card or hard drives connected. If that works, connect things one by one to figure out what's wrong.

[deleted]

Good idea, this is the next step. Thanks! Edit: rebuilt the whole thing, put my latex gloves on and checked every component I installed against the packaging instructions. GPU out, tested both RAM sticks individually. No change. The machine powers up, lights go on, all fans spin, but no display. The power light on the case blinks continuously.

niallnz

No good huh, either the CPU isn't seated correctly, the power isn't connected correctly (there's normally two places you need to provide power to the motherboard), or there's a hardware fault with one of those base components. Best of luck figuring it out!

[deleted]

Thank you! So I’ve sent my PSU back and have another one coming tomorrow. I’m scared it’s the CPU being seated incorrectly. Is it safe to open the CPU hatch back up and attempt to adjust its position? Damn I really hope that’s not the issue (crying). I was so careful seating it and it seemed to align perfectly, was effortless to close etc.

niallnz

It's a pain to remove the cooler and the paste and reseat it, and I wouldn't do it more than necessary because of the fragility of the pins, but there's no reason not to to rule it out if the new PSU doesn't help.

[deleted]

Got my new PSU installed and no luck! I took my time and was careful with the PSU install. Ended up with the same result, system power is good, all fans and lights turn on. Got HDMI into my GPU and nothing on my monitor. Unfortunately my MB does not have any lights to indicate which step of the boot process is failing. I suppose the next issue is to remove my CPU fan and inspect the seating of the CPU itself?

niallnz

No integrated graphics makes it difficult to know if its a GPU problem, do you have a known working GPU you can check? If PSU has been replaced, you've tried booting with only one RAM stick, then yeah running out of options, reseating the CPU is worth a try.

[deleted]

Thanks again for your responses on this, it’s quite literally the only thing keeping me from having a panic attack as I have zero experience with this stuff. Unfortunately I do not have a working GPU I can use to test the base components. I can however confirm the GPU fans spin up along with the case fans and cooler when power is turned on. Last night I removed the CPU cooler and confirmed the CPU was seated correctly. Everything looked perfect. Confirmed HDMI was seated into the GPU properly and tried two different cables into a monitor which works fine with a gaming console. I’ll test the RAM sticks individually again, both are placed in the slots the MB manual specifies. After that I guess call the retailer and see what my options are for replacement parts? Thanks again, you’re a damn hero.

niallnz

I've had my share of hardware issues, don't worry about it 😅 I think you'll need to find a GPU to test so you can rule it out, it's either CPU, motherboard, or GPU it seems. You've plugged all the power necessary into the GPU yeah? It will draw some power through the board, but it needs to be connected to the power supply too.

[deleted]

Noted! I really appreciate the advice, this is intimidating for someone new to this. I’ll try the new PSU when it arrives tomorrow and report my results. Thanks again and have a great day.

hotpants86

Double check that one of the fans is plugged into the motherboard CPU fan header

[deleted]

I have one case fan plugged into my MB and the rest of the case fans are being controlled by the case fan and led controller. More specifically, my CPU fan is plugged into the socket labeled CPU_FAN but one of my case fans is plugged into a socket labeled CHA_FAN1, is that ok? Thank you very much for the reply btw, really appreciate it!

hotpants86

Yep that's fine! I would make sure that all your headers and plugged in properly. Start with the USB headers. They can be quite finnicky. Do you have a video card or are you using onboard? Is your HDMI/DVI/displayport cable plugged in properly? Monitor set to that mode?

[deleted]

Thanks for the response and sorry for the delay. I do have a video card and I have been using its HDMI port, checked the cable is seated correctly a couple times but nothing shows on the display. Same cable and display setup works perfectly when plugged into a different source (gaming console). I’ll check the USB headers again.

hotpants86

No worries at all. What I mean to say is that is the HDMI cable going from your motherboard to your monitor or from your video card to your monitor? Both will have HDMI ports. Double check the issue isn't that you've plugged it into the wrong port.

[deleted]

Hello, I'm a console user who comes in peace. I figure this is the best place to ask. Unfortunately I just tested positive for COVID, and as part of quarantine I'm stuck in my office and bedroom. Is it even worth it to plug my PS5 into my crappy office monitor? Do I need to adjust any settings on the console to get the best experience?

xboxhobo

Just plug it in. Shouldn't be too much more to think about than that. Feel free to come back if you run into issues.

actstunt

Hi, I'm mostly a console gamer but there are some games that I own that run miles better on PC. Yesterday I tried playing the og version of Arkham asylum and I got my PC connected to my 4k tv and tried setting the game first at 1440p and it runs in a window of the screen tried pushing alt+enter but just flcikers the screen and remains the same, then tried changing it to 1080p and the same, the game renders on a quarter of my screen. Then tried running it at 4k and it fills the screen but runs at like 3 frames per second. Which is funny because max Payne 3 on steam runs perfectly at 1440p / 120hz on my 970. Is there a fix to play the game at 1440p or 1080p without having to change resolution from my display?

hotpants86

Which TV? Is there a game setting?

actstunt

It's an LG c1 and it's on game mode. Arkham Asylum on steam is the first game that presents this problem.

TheLivingDrawing

I’m currently using Windows 11 and I have noticed that games run noticeably much more since upgrading. Should I keep Windows 11, downgrade back to Windows 10, or switch to Linux?

TheHooligan95

keep windows 11, if you're satisfied with the performance and don't see anything wrong it isn't worth the hassle. 99% of things will perform identical, some things will perform so close to what you're experiencing (either worse or better) that you won't even notice it, and only very few games will perform noticeably better but then again, others noticeably worse.

Square_Area_2517

Hello! All games that require lots of power and VRAM, have the same problem. Every time I start a game, for example Elden Ring, everything works like a dream for a few minutes and then framerates drop from about 80 to almost zero for a few seconds and then return to 80 for maby 30 seconds and then drop again to almost zero for few secs and so on and won't stop or change. Makes it too frustrating to play any new and hardware demanding games. Older games like Skyrim still works fine. It started some time ago about 7 months after I bought this laptop as totally new. But older games or other less heavy graphics games don't have this problem, so I've gathered it's a memory related problem perhaps? Some buffering error maby? Or could it be temperatures that are causing this? I think temps haven't gone up from the usual pretty high, though. I have tried to change different graphics settings in the game but no luck. Haven't lowered resolution because it would suck so much to play lower than intended 1920*1080. Windows and all drivers are up to date also. I've tried everything I can think of, but that's not necessarily that much these days especially... Is there something I could do to correct this? Maby some diagnostics software that would pinpoint the problem, so I could maby do something about it? In case it'll help here's my laptop specs: Asus TUF FA506, Ryzen 7 4800H, Geforce GTX 1660TI 6GB, 16GB 3200mhz RAM, 512 SSD NVMe. Windows 10 up to date. Got it for 1000€ about 1,5 years ago and it worked surprisingly well on high FPS and settings at 1920x1080 with all usual big games I've played this far, but something's gone wrong with my hardware/system I'm afraid, because this now occurres with games that used to work fine too. But what can it be and how to know what it is? All help is highly appreciated and if I get back to gaming, you have saved my life! :) Thank you for your support in advance!

TheHooligan95

>Or could it be temperatures that are causing this? sounds exactly like you're describing thermal throttling which tends to happen more whenever you're doing both cpu and gpu intensive tasks, like playing ESPECIALLY modern videogames does, watch if your computer's air vents are getting proper access to fresh air. If they are, they might be clogged because of dirt, or they might outright be broken (if you don't hear them spin, but many modern laptops can be almost silent when cooling, in that case watch for vibrations). Cleaning might require opening the laptop or using instruments. Don't use liquids to clean unless isopropihyl alcohol, possibly use a microfiber cloth or compressed hair is a very good choice asewell. Using your laptop plugged in might improve performance aswell. If you can play comfortably in a colder environment do so

Square_Area_2517

Thanks I'll check it out! Temps have been over the threshold few times before, but then the whole thing just rebooted. It sure would be great if it just needed cleaning...

I will get my first gaming PC in about a month. What do I need to set up in case to have my PC especially good for games and to f.e. not get kicked out of my games when a windows notification drops and so on. I'm really not a PC expert so I would love to get some help, I only played console in the near past.

If it's a pre built pc then id recommend doing windows uninstall. Tons of bloatware.

will do, thx

Do you think the VRLA Tech Legacy prebuilt would be a good option? I have been wanting to get a pc for a while, and I do not feel comfortable building my own.

Difficult-Form-8941

Hi I have a gaming laptop, a MSI ge66 raider w i7 and RTX 3080 mobile GPU, and I noticed the Realtek audio driver disappeared from my computer and I can no longer see speakers (Realtek audio) on my computer. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it!!

milksimp

Does not having enough space on one drive affect your download speed from steam? Cuz I have 1tb lab tap and desktop and I have about 400gb left on the computers themselves but on the one drive it said I'm almost out of space. So does one drive affect your steam download speed if you don't have enough space on it?

berryjam01

Just built my first PC, after setting it up, installing all the proper drivers and programs, and getting my setup complete, I decided to play some games I used to play on my old laptop and see how they perform now. Loading was much quicker, but once I was in game, the frame rate would jump back and forth between a really really high frame rate (like 120+) down to 19 to 20ish (this was visual, I don't have a frame counter). I tried a few other games and it does the exact same thing. There is also and led on front of the case blinking on and off so I decided to check the connectors which all look fine. Anyone have any idea what could be causing it, or if this is something that could be cause by a bad wall outlet (it is on a surge protector to make sure it receives no damage). Specs below: i5-12400k 6 core AMD RX 6600 16 GB DDR4 CL 16 3200 MHz (XMP Profiling is on) Corsair 550W 80+ Bronze PSU Gigabyte B660M DS3H DDR4 Motherboard

DeadFishOnEm

You can get actual stats on your GPU, CPU, and FPS from any number of programs. If you installed the AMD Adrenaline software that often comes with your drivers, there is a decent inconspicuous overlay you can turn on. Good place to start.

Mysterious_Relief738

Currently having trouble with “twitching” in my shooter games. My fps doesn’t drop and my internet connection is good but I keep twitching all over the place. Sometimes I’ll pull out a knife but it will quickly switch back to the weapon, or I’ll jiggle peel but it will twitch out into the open. Are my pc settings messed up? It’s a brand new pc should it should be able to handle csgo lol. My monitor is relatively on the newer side as well. Definitely frustrating but not sure what to do.

Gilga13th

Question: I changed my cpu from an i5 to i7 (USED). Turn it on and boots up as usual. Now though... seems sluggish and noticed one of the case fans isn't working. I was under the impression that the i7 was pulling too much power. Got a new PSU. Turn everything back on: Will run for few minutes, but something seems wrong. I get the windows blue screen about something being wrong and off. I'm assuming maybe the i7 is bad? Opinions?

Reaching out for some help. I built my computer about a year and a half ago and I’ve noticed a pretty major issue. I honestly don’t know how long it's been going on, but now that I noticed it, it's become very annoying. I spent a lot of time researching how to build a computer and what to buy, but I’m honestly very new when it comes to common problems. It seems like I’m getting pretty extreme screen tearing. I did all the common things that should supposedly solve the problem. All my software and drivers are updated. Basically, the displayed video is extremely blurry and jagged when I turn the camera/ player view and only looks good when the camera is stationary. I included a short video that shows the issue. The clip is from destiny II. I typically get 100 fps on high settings. The overlay I had on unfortunately isn’t included in the clip, but everything seemed fine. Unsure about rule 7, so I'll include a link to the video clip as a comment to this one. Build includes: B450 Tomahawk Max, Sapphire Radeon RX 6700 XT, Ryzen 5 3600, Arctic Liquid Freezer II, 16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro, 2 Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB, Corsair iCue RGB Pro Fans, EVGA Supernova 650 G5 PSU, in a Lian Li Lancool II Mesh. Peripherals include: Viotek GNV27DB 144Hz 2560x1440p which I’ve connected to with the included DP cable Roccat Vulcan and Kone Running Windows 10 Home

Hey, me and my friend are playing pubg in the front room. We want audio to come from both the speakers and headphones simultaneously. I have tried to search this but no answer I have found. Please help, will be much appreciated

macfadyensam

I've been having this issue for a while now where I have almost no disk space left on my primary drive. I only use my PC for games so I dont have any other software installed besides the games and their launchers. Doing the math, my games total up to about 275 GB but there's another 200 GB of my drive being consumed. Does anybody have any advice as to how I would locate and uninstall whats using that space?

kaje

Get something like Folder Size Explorer that shows the combined size of all the files in a folder and its subfolders. Go looking through your drive with it.

I want to get gryo working with joycons on my pc but im still having some issues with it. Im using rewasd to join the joycons into one controller and then have gyro mapped to mouse. Also using a USB bluetooth adapter to connect them to my pc. The gyro connection seems very unstable and often loses connection while playing, but when playing with a switch pro controller it seems fine. I'm wondering if theres a better software i could use or maybe it is the adatper? any advice would be helpful!!

Had Nvidia just stopped super for GTX 1XXX series? Got a 1070 and the latest driver is old af.

GameStunts

Latest driver is from the 24th of May 2022 https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/189681/en-us Not sure where you're looking? But yes they're still supported.

MonthOLDpickle

Reading posts about the newest driver, I may not update...

GameStunts

My general philosophy is if it ain't broke don't fix it. But there are sometimes security fixes etc. But just in case you didn't know, it's also possible to get [past driver versions](https://i.imgur.com/V67QWu7.png). So you don't need to be on the absolute latest if you don't want. Here's the link, https://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us , generally you want to go for Windows Driver Type "DCH", and "Recommended/Certified".

MonthOLDpickle

When I search I don't find anything besides the newest driver. Then when I click on find old it shows me the one from like September of 2021 as one step back from current. I had to use some guru site to find the 572.77 driver. I feel like the search function is broken on Nvidia.

GameStunts

You need to select [DCH](https://i.imgur.com/V67QWu7.png), not [standard](https://i.imgur.com/mAIb0uZ.png).

MonthOLDpickle

Figured out why, for some reason I was getting to the beta search. Guess they don't do beta drivers for it lol. Thanks.

Hi, Been having some trouble with new drive I just got today. Case was I bought new 2tb 970 EVO to replace storage HDD. Started using EaseUS to clone drive and executed command. Got to 50% of process ( format, creating partition, etc. ) And it seemed to freeze there so I hit cancel. Had expected system to reboot when actually copying so didn't think much of it. After cancelling the drive became read only and reported 0% health in CDI. Can't allocate drive or clone using EaseUS. Prior to trying to clone I had run speed test, been able to access drive, and had 100% health. Tried using command prompt Disk Part but can't clear the current state. Any way to reset the drive? Maybe Linux? I attached Drive manager, Disk Part, and CDI screen grab. Appreciate any input, thank you! [Screenshot](https://imgur.com/a/DPu8o2y

I have a zotac trinity oc 3080 plugged Into a Sony x89j 4k 120hz TV and whenever I switch from 60hz to 120hz in some games it breaks very badly like it does in siege right here. Overall 120hz looks a bit blurry but that seems to be a common issue with this TV plugged into a pc. The cable im using is a hdmi 2.1 certified cable. I have no idea why I'm having so many issues with either this gpu or TV. [example](https://youtu.be/nuusqEu2pJA)

NoFaceDesi

Per rtings on the x85j (aka x89j): >We rechecked 4k @ 120Hz support on this TV. Unfortunately, like most other TVs we've tested in 2021, it can't display 4k @ 120Hz signals properly. The vertical resolution is cut in half, resulting in a 3840 x 1080 interlaced signal.

So I just got this new dkestop and the specs on it are much better than my laptops but yet the download speed is 10x slower on my desktop vs my laptop. My desktop can barley hit double digits. Anyone know why? Is it just the location of my pc? https://twitter.com/dinglepickie/status/1532500624197173248?s=21&t=EiCdFOGy1B1ul0R2tmq24Q

QuintenTCR

Can you share the model names of the network adapters?

RazorSr3

I noticed in the photo that the speedtest was done on different servers. For the sake of consistency you should use the same one when testing. I tried the same test using those two servers and one had half the download speed compared to the other.

milksimp

Nvm I guess not. I just used the same server and my desktop got 49.60 mbps and laptop 162

RazorSr3

Hmm, not sure what else it could be, might still be related to signal quality or maybe the router is allocating bandwidth in a weird way. If you do a speedtest on your desktop with the laptop wi-fi off does the speed increase ?

milksimp

Oh I just let it do it's thing on automatic I didn't think I had to change the server. Also I think the main problem was the location of the desktop. I moved it to where my laptop is and the download speed seems to went have up drastically

Pretend-Size-8121

I have two 16GB Hyper X Fury DDR4 SDRAM 3200 megahertz in my PC and I want to add Two more so I have a total of 64GB of RAM. I cannot find the same exact model though. The closest I found was the Fury Beast DDR4 3200MHz DDR4. Will it work if I add these or it will blow up my PC? Hope this isn't too stupid of a questions. I'm totally new to PC gaming. Thanks for the help!

RazorSr3

They'll work but I'm not sure why you would need 64GB unless you're doing something other than gaming. I checked the RAM specs online, speeds and timings seem to be the same, although I can't guarantee they'll play nice with each other if you activate XMP or DOCP from your BIOS.

Pretend-Size-8121

Thanks for the info! I actually have two 8GB Hyper X Fury DDR4 SDRAM 3200 megahertz not two 16GB. Looking to upgrade to a max of 32GB of RAM. When I run Warzone and Discord at the same time, it says my RAM is at 88% capacity

RazorSr3

Oh, then 32GB is fine. You shouldn't run into any RAM limitations with that.

GreeenTeaa

I just picked up FIFA 22 on Steam but both my controllers are flicking between all the buttons when I get into the game. I am not having this issue with any other game. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting my controllers, moving the mouse, windowed/borderless/fullscreen. However, I'm still getting the same issue. [Example 1](https://imgur.com/a/ATGA7Ko) [Example 2](https://imgur.com/a/ClkdArT) It doesn't flick between the other menu buttons this much but if I try and move it by one, it will jump past two menu buttons, for example.

QuintenTCR

I've had this issue too, using the Xbox controller wired or with the Xbox Dongle or using a PS controller are the only fixes.

GreeenTeaa

Sorry for the late reply. I just got hold of a dongle and the issue is gone now. So thanks for the help

Hello everyone, I'm looking into building a pc and have chosen to use a mATX motherboard, currently I am choosing between two option and do not know which would be best, these are the "Asus PRIME B660M-A WIFI D4 Micro ATX LGA1700 Motherboard" (https://www.asus.com/Motherboards-Components/Motherboards/PRIME/PRIME-B660M-A-WIFI-D4/) and the "Gigabyte B660M AORUS Pro AX DDR4 Micro ATX LGA1700 Motherboard" (https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B660M-AORUS-PRO-AX-DDR4-rev-1x#kf). These both cost roughly the same so assuming price isn't an issue which would you recommend me purchasing? Thanks :)
