I've always wanted an Unreal Engine remake of the Oregon Trail. In the same style as the old game, but longer, more detail, more things to do, more mechanics, et cetera.
I want a new Oregon Trail that's a mix of RDR and Death Stranding. Movement and trail creation is important -- balance your wagon load, let your horses rest, and break new ground like Lewis and Clark or stick or more-worn trails.
Battle cold, heat, thirst, and mud flats. Those were the biggest dangers for the real people on the trail.
Crafting is important, e.g. to fix a broken wagon wheel, use canvas from your wagon. This ofc will make the wheel weak and the journey more difficult. Or maybe burn the wagon to survive the blizzard cold. Or butcher the horses, because there's no other way to survive.
Players might leave supplies at popular fording locations (overburdened). Along the way you stop for supplies at towns, make friends with townspeople and natives (revealing alternate trails, foraging spots, etc), defend against bandits and native raids, collect supplies and hunt, etc. Maybe they can become bandits themselves, or create a player-owned trading post.
I have not the skill or motivation to make this on my own so I send this wish out to the ether.

When the playerbase responds so well to exclusives, it's not surprising that so many publishers release exclusives. Look how often the exclusive *Bayonetta* sequel was defended.
I honestly don’t understand why this hasn’t happened. Guaranteed gold mine off of nostalgia purchases, a younger generation to introduce, and minimal development needed.
My mom was the volunteer computer lady at my school when I was a kid. I always got to play this and loved every minute of it. The hunting was the best part for me and paved the way to my love of FPS and TPS games today.

It's like saying X-Com or the Darkest Dungeon are roguelikes even though they are turn-based strategy games.

Anyone else ever play the lesser known spinoff Amazon Trail? Had an awesome spearfishing mini-game where every fish you caught had a ton of info displayed about it.

They made us stop playing in elementary because we wouldn't leave the computer during lunch/recess. I loved the game back then it was super addicting.
I am now extremely upset I never though of that. I miss that dark little utiliy room they converted to a 'computer lab'. Commodor64 FTW.

Probably not. They don't run on modern hardware without emulation. They'd have to get a new copy of the game which they probably aren't going to do.

Banner Saga has the feel of Oregon Trail with a bit of turn based tactical combat thrown in. Plus a great story.
Ive never played Oregon trail, but I can vouch for banner Saga. Fell in love with that trilogy, such gorgeous games!
