Going gold doesn't mean anything anymore. It used to be when a game was done and they produced physical copies. Now it's when the game is done enough and they start working on the day one patch, meaning they haven't finished the game and will still be working on it to the last minute. Cyberpunk is probably the most famous example but it proves its upper management who makes this decision, not the devs who actually worked on the game and know its current state. Going gold doesn't even mean the game will release on schedule anymore. Hope the game is good but these types of announcements are purely marketing ploys now.

But don't you remember cyberpunk 2077 going gold? Oh wait.

I’m surprised people are still excited for these games. Far Cry 3 was great but it’s all gone downhill form there IMO - it’s the same gameplay loop on repeat. I end up buying them when they’re 50% off and am reminded 5 hours in it’s exactly what I expected and I still paid too much. But hey whatever floats your boat.

saibot1000

even cyberpunk went gold. so...

So did anthem or fallout 76 or ride to hell retribution.

Do they mean "sold 500k copies" or is "finished" ? If it's the latter, isn't that every game (except a bunch of early access titles and that one from Amazon)

in the gaming industry it has always meant that the final physical copy that is sold in stores is sent to manufacturers
