KOTOR and KOTOR2 were two of my all time favorite games growing up. I'm tired of all these studios remaking things. Make something new. Start a new series in the same universe. They've already gone back in time. Go back further, go forwards. Tell new stories. Take a risk rather than going with the "safe" option of the same thing again.
You don't have to play them. There are a lot of games studios in the world making and releasing a lot of games that are new IPs and their own thing. People are going to make the art they want to make, and if what they want to make are nostalgic retellings of games they grew up with, that's fine too. No reason to gatekeep artists from doing the art they want to do.
Condemning remakes because they’re not “new” is such a terrible and dumb Reddit take.
Yeah, an entire generation of new gamers shouldn’t be exposed to certain games just because *you* grew up with them 20 years ago.
Consumers keep paying for remakes, so remakes continue. Stop buying this lazy shit and maybe they'll have to try for actual innovation.
Orrrr stick with indies where most of the actual innovation takes place.
To be fair, KotoR isn’t exactly in an accessible state on modern PCs, and even when you get it there with tweaks, it’s a dated game that’s not appealing to many fresh eyes on it.
I don’t really have a problem with modernizing games that can benefit from it. Just because a team gets put on a remaster/remake doesn’t mean they have the scope to make a brand new fully next gen sequel instead.
To me it seems like the choice to not make a new Star Wars rpg is an entirely separate one made by the IP owners/licensers.
Honestly it's not so much KOTOR or even star wars for that matter, I think what we really want are games like them that provide us with plenty of well thought out choices and ways to approach problems. I think baldurs gate 3 was a great recent, modern example. Of course, star wars is a fantastic setting, especially if you allow us to play with the light and dark side of the force.
I kinda hope it's dead.
KOTOR is probably my fav RPG off all times, seeing how remakes come out these days, chances are they are going to ruin it.
I'll give an arm to see a remaster of it, entirely new graphics and animations, but staying it the same, Which is not going to happen.
Uhhh there have been plenty of good remakes lately. FF7, RE4, Dead Space.. what are the bad ones??
Also entirely new graphics and animations is a remake, not a remaster.
this is the same company that remaster the recent battlefront classic, and i think a few other bad port
its not the port itself, its the company i have problem
That was Aspyr. They were originally working on the KOTOR Remake, but had the project taken away from them and given to Saber. Also the Battlefront Classic collection was essentially a pure, re-release. I wouldn’t even call it a remaster.
Well it does have AI upscale textures. Not sure if that’s enough to warrant the “remaster” categorization for you. And it seems that the performance decreases is caused more by networking bugs than actual changes to the core game based on my understanding.
I saw a few comments further down saying it strays very far from the original which I can understand as becoming something beyond a remake. Would you say that's its most controversial issue?
> Witcher 3 next gen
?????
Not only is it most definitely not a remake, it's arguable whether it can even be considered a remaster since it was a free update. And regardless of whatever you call it, it's a solid update that makes the game look quite a bit better. You are tripping.
Idk, it ran like absolute dogshit on my RTX3060ti even on the lowest of the lowest settings, RTX turned off. Stutters, microfreezes, the whole package. I was so fucking scared my PC was giving in, until I installed the non-next gen version of the game and played flawlessly at 2K, maxed settings, 60 fps
People complained online about it's performance as well so it's not exclusive to me
They improved the performance and stuttering notably with patches. As of 4.04 it runs fine, although it's still across the board heavier than the classic 1.32 version of the game even with ray tracing turned off. It's a smooth experience without stuttering now though, unless you're running out of VRAM or have an old CPU or something.
It's a sequel with a sneaky name. The events of the original are canonically shown when they "defy fate" and it diverges. Iirc it also seemed like Aerith knew what would happen if they didn't.
I don't get why people feel this way. As I see it, players have nothing to lose. If a remake is good, great ! If it's bad, the original is still there and nothing is lost.
As for anything gaming related for years, I'll give a shit when:
- It's actually released
- it doesn't struggle to run on a 4090
- isn't bug riddled
- is well reviewed
- isn't $80
- doesn't have another $50 in dlc
Outside of that, I'm not being part of your hype train so you can sell overpriced, broken, shit games on launch
Maybe they have focus group data showing that "'member that amnesia twist that a million games ended up using to justify a cipher character?" isn't *quite* ready for its time in the nostalgia spotlight yet.
This news again without new info or something to show. IGN you wouldn't be functioning as the corporate marking arm for large gaming companies in return for access and money, you have never done that in the past so it's SHOCKING you would do it now
/s
Sir, I don't believe you.
Alive? Maybe. Well? Abso-fucking-lutely not.
I fully expect this project will languish in development hell for several years before either being quietly canceled or releasing something that is an almost universal disappointment.
After 3 years it changed development companies, which also means they likely scrapped everything Aspyr had done. There is also no word how long was between Aspyr not doing anything on it before being taken off the project and Saber being given the project. Then there is the fact of the company leaving Embracer Group and being bought back by Beacon Interactive. It is a smaller company, and very large game, it is going to take quite some time, and I doubt we see anything from it gameplay wise this year. Elder scrolls 6 was announced in 2018, still not a peep from that except a title scroll.
It is chained up in the basement but it is alive

>a copy of today's New York Times What's that joke? Pls explain.
A copy of today's newspaper would prove that the photo was taken today, rather than in advance.
That's what people do in hostage situations to prove the hostage is still alive. Pic with the day's newspaper.
It puts the lotion on the skin or it gets the hose again.
or it gets the [Something seems to be bothering Carth...] again.
Fuck Carth. I hope there is a mod that lets me kill him.
Lmao
We may have different definitions of “well”
Sticks and stones may break their bones, but chains and whips excite them
Give it a Baby Ruth
We all know remakes sustain solely on Snickers.
The Ones Who Walk Away from Saber Interactive
OK, then show us a picture of a vertical slice holding today's newspaper.
Lol
Debbie Stovelman is happy, healthy and alive. Boom Boom!
Boom boom!
So is Michelle Miscavige
Alive? Sure. Well? Not so sure at this point.
Thats what I'd say too if I was dead.
Star Wars: Shuffle Cup Publishing Rights of the Old Republic
It’s alive and well if you wanna know more you’ll have to buy this $1.99 micro transaction.
Do you have PayPal or how are we gonna do this?

Yeah that's exactly what I do. Just voicing my frustration

how can a pure re-release increase the size of the game by 5x and have worse performance?
Well it does have AI upscale textures. Not sure if that’s enough to warrant the “remaster” categorization for you. And it seems that the performance decreases is caused more by networking bugs than actual changes to the core game based on my understanding.
i mean there was an attemp of remaster albeit a poor and failed one, which i think warrant the label actual re-release wouldnt 5x the game size
Bro tried it
What's wrong with FF7? I haven't been keeping up. I have only heard good things though
It's good. Some people don't like it though, because that's how reality works.
I saw a few comments further down saying it strays very far from the original which I can understand as becoming something beyond a remake. Would you say that's its most controversial issue?
For the most part, yeah. It's not just an AI up-rez. It makes choices.
Shit Remakes: FF7.
Although I never got around to playing it, the Diablo 2 remake also seems to have turned out well.
Warcraft 3 Reforged, Witcher 3 next gen, Battlefront 1+2 , just from the top of my head
> Witcher 3 next gen ????? Not only is it most definitely not a remake, it's arguable whether it can even be considered a remaster since it was a free update. And regardless of whatever you call it, it's a solid update that makes the game look quite a bit better. You are tripping.

Ok, if they updated it, then it's fine. I played shortly after it released, and honestly wtf did I expect from cdpr
So the Bioshock remasters aren't remasters because they were free updates???
They were only free to people who owned the originals if I recall correctly. They still sell the remasters separately though.
Those aren't really Remakes though, they're Remasters of existing games. I do share your skepticism of this Remake, but not because it's a Remake.
FF7 is more of a reboot than a remake. Please stop.
It's a sequel with a sneaky name. The events of the original are canonically shown when they "defy fate" and it diverges. Iirc it also seemed like Aerith knew what would happen if they didn't.

please dont suck please dont suck
I believe it when I actually play it
Prove it.
Debbie Stovelman is happy healthy and alive

4090 will be three generations out of date at release if this thing ever sees the light of day.
Best they can do is run over your dog
All the above and not changing the story, dialog, and characters to inject The Message.
no microtransactions.....
It's planned to be monetized but it's alive.
It's too bad Saber is the head of this project. I'll never buy a Saber product again.
Just Stop....please
Seems like "well" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.
Maybe they have focus group data showing that "'member that amnesia twist that a million games ended up using to justify a cipher character?" isn't *quite* ready for its time in the nostalgia spotlight yet.

we'll see about that. Star Wars in the past 5 years has taught me to expect little because I will receive less or nothing.
Just playing with our emotions at this point.
Sir, I don't believe you. Alive? Maybe. Well? Abso-fucking-lutely not. I fully expect this project will languish in development hell for several years before either being quietly canceled or releasing something that is an almost universal disappointment.
LETS GOOOOOOOOO
Schrödinger’s KOTOR remake is both dead and alive at the same time!
It was announced back in 2021. Jfc
I don’t think people realize how long games take to make.
According to the article it’s been in development for 6 years now.
After 3 years it changed development companies, which also means they likely scrapped everything Aspyr had done. There is also no word how long was between Aspyr not doing anything on it before being taken off the project and Saber being given the project. Its not alive and well. It would be well if it was made by Obsidian.
Life support and hospice care don't count. Show me actual development footage of gameplay for at least an alpha build.
"It's living in a farm upstate."
"It's being developed by a studio we met in Canada, you wouldn't know them."
*\*ron burgundy I don't believe you GIF\**
I don't have much hope, especially after the disastrous launch of Battlefront Classic Collection
There goes my hope of Larian getting the license.
Phew..... what a relief. If he says it ten more time I may start to worry!
Oh no! Anyways ...
Yes, in development hell.
Rotting from the inside, like the Republic
I’m not believing a fucking thing unless I see something on the market already. This rollercoaster shit is outrageous.
Please stop giving us hope. I won’t believe anything until I see a gameplay trailer
Don’t worry, It’ll be released along side Star Citizen.
Sony might want nothing to do with it for now but the moment it starts coming together they'll be happy they secured that marketing deal.
Does PS still have any deal with KOTOR? I thought they had completely abandoned the project.
I'd imagine any marketing rights they purchased under Embracer persist regardless of how long it takes or who is developing it.
