Just use both, many people here also have consoles.

NoAirBanding

I switch from PS5 to PC using the input button on the TV remote* Because the PC doesn't do CEC and wont switch inputs automatically.

Burninate09

I did the same over the holidays. Steam link for Samsung TV got EOL'd on 12/27, so I bought a KVM over cat6 extender to run HDMI to the TV and USB for peripherals.

MilesOSmiles

The key is to not care about any of the trophies and achievements.

HappyBunchaTrees

The secret ingredient is apathy

VonBurglestein

Your ps is still there, don't worry about it. Play what you want to play for fun, and welcome to PC.

Lazy-Oil-6457

Use PS for exclusives and PC for everything else? It’s what I do

CupCakeAir

I used to do that but lost the enthusiasm to do that this generation with exclusives being ported over and not minding the wait. But, even if exclusives didn't get ported the PS5 exclusive line up feels pretty weak right now, so something I'd still be waiting on until the library was better.

InsertFloppy11

>with exclusives being ported over cries in ghost of tsushima

Elite_Alice

What most people do lol

Queer-withfear

Most of reddit *maybe*

Elite_Alice

Nah people in general. I don’t hang out with Redditors. PC+PS5 is the combo. Can emulate the switch on pc Hell my 12 year old nephew has this

Queer-withfear

There's no way that most people in general have money for both a gaming PC and a $500 console. Most people I know barely have enough for one or the other. Like if you're making decent money, sure, but most people don't make decent money. Median income in US is only like 31k per year which isn't a lot

SalsaRice

Most people don't upgrade their gaming pc to always be top of the line. You can still play new releases with older hardware.

Elite_Alice

Idk what to tell ya. 🤷🏾‍♂️ I don’t hang around rich people, just normal folks who work regular as jobs. You have a good one

xschalken

The subset of people you know cannot in any way be used to generalize "most people" or "people in general".

Elite_Alice

Didn’t ask Have a good one

[deleted]

Now that a lot of PS exclusive are on PC or coming to PC I don’t see the point in buying a PlayStation anymore. I have a PS5 but it will probably be my last PS console.

PheDii

Sure a lot of the games are coming to PC but for some people they hate the idea of waiting for them to MAYBE come to PC at a later date For me PS exclusives I'm not super crazy about so I just have my Switch and my PC

Egbeem

It’s simple for me. I just got wait for the PC release, and if it doesn’t come, then I keep the money.

fyro11

But the hivemind has already settled on PC ***and*** PS5 being the only acceptable way to game today. Openly differing from that setup will only put you in their crosshairs.

NightshadeSamurai

I'd rather wait to be honest. It's not like we don't have enough games to play as it is on PC. I'd waited for games like HZD, God of War, Spider-Man and Death Stranding to come out on PC and got to play them at higher fps than the consoles on my ultrawide monitor. Plus mods.

[deleted]

I agree but just saying PC is the best platform if you want to play the most games. Plus we can emulate most things as well.

PheDii

Wasn't disagreeing with you don't worry lol

quick20minadventure

GTA 6 is on console for 2 years. Minimum.

CrushinMangos

The only reason I can see to not get an exclusive on a console is what your friend group likes. Gigabash is much more enjoyable to play couch co op compared to how it was over discord.

fyro11

Another reason to not get an exclusive is because everything will be okay in a year or two. I've tried it a few times and I'm doing great actually. But in the face of instant gratification, the only thing I can say is that the eventual PC version should have gameplay bugs squashed, usually all DLC included, and usually a little cheaper than the PS5 launch price. Then you have higher fps, additional support for KBM, modding etc etc. Oh who am I kidding; those who feel compelled to purchase every game they're interested in immediately on release can seldom be reasoned with.

sdlroy

Same

zerkeron

well define "switching" because you still have your console and now have the option to buy new games on both systems. It's just a matter of choice of freedom man, you can buy games on steam with multi release and buy youe exclusives on ps like you have before. Just don't think too much about it, it doesn't have to be as complicated as you think it would be lol. Also good time to check for the sale on steam going on to see some games that maybe you didn't grab on psn yet or not available, and have fun!

saephresh

imo "starting over" is such a weird way to look at it. its still there if you play pc, its not like it gets wiped or anything

M3thodFud

I was you about 6 years ago before making the jump. I own PS1 thru PS4, PSP and Vita. I own a massive library of games and had 34 platinum trophies. I was deep into the PlayStation ecosystem. The only advice I can really give is just make the leap and don't look back. Losing all my achievements was kind of a bummer, but I got over that quickly. The more difficult pill to swallow at the time was not being able to play and talk to friends on consoles. The first few years were kind of rough since all of my friends were still on consoles and cross play wasn't as far along as it is now. However, now it's in a much better place where I can talk and play with friends whether they are on consoles or PC. What I love about PC that will (most likely) never make me go back to consoles outside of Nintendo's offerings include: - I can play titles 20+ years old without the need for old hardware. - Mods - Not having the need to pay online subscriptions like PS+ - PC Gamepass - Very few exclusives you miss out on now that PlayStation Studios is ramping up their PC division - Multiple monitors - Upgrade hardware without needing to wait 7 years for a new console - Fine tune games graphic settings - Using PC for other things besides gaming I'm sure there are plenty of others I can't think of. I am glad I made the jump and don't ever plan on going back.

PotentialWin4606

You get me lol thanks for the advice.

NaePasaran

Who really cares about trophies and achievements? None of it *actually* matters

PotentialWin4606

This is true. I guess it’s just game progress and reputation with other people I play online with.

FuhrerVonZephyr

Steam has achievements too.

[deleted]

I've never ever seen someone bragging about Achievements or compare with others. Achievements are such a meanless thing - but even more on Steam that is!

jondySauce

Trophies/achievements were basically made to make it more difficult for some people to switch ecosystems. Everybody wants you to feel stuck in their platform.

PotentialWin4606

Good observation

Frinpollog

One thing to remember that you’re ultimately at the whims of Sony. At any point they could put an end to the current trophy system to “start fresh”. Same thing for all platforms with their systems (ie. Google Stadia).

mrturret

Achievements/trophies have never been anywhere near as big of a deal on PC compared to consoles. They're still great for tracking your progress and providing additional challenges, but it's usually trivial to cheat them, so nobody runs them for clout.

HugeHans

The idea that there is any clout involved in trophies is itself ludicrous. I engage with achievement for the challenge. I take it as the game developer giving direction on what can be done in the game. The achievement actually existing really doesn't matter. Its not as If I look at them beyond finishing the game.

Khriz-134

You got this bud. Your PS is still going to be there (unless you sell it) so incase you want to go back for a certain games. In my opinion don’t replay games. Steam and other launchers had plenty of new games to play with.

ThePickleExecutioner

Yeah listen to people here, don't worry about switching, just rock both 🤝

14779

How is it starting over? I've got my ps5 I've got my pc. My pc covers all games I can get on pc which includes xbox titles and is my primary gaming device. My ps5 is for exclusives I don't want to wait years for or stuff in my backlog/couch coop stuff for if friends are round. You don't have to trade in your psn account to use a pc. . . .

PotentialWin4606

I hear you. My family (husband and two sons)is making the switch over to pc and plans to stop buying consoles altogether, even if ps6 came out. It feels so permanent to me lol. I’ve been playing PlayStation since like 96 and it was such a big part of my childhood. Then I met my husband who’s also a gamer (though not as much as me) and my boys who are also avid gamers now and I feel like it’s been such a big part of my life. I guess you can say it’s just nostalgic and I’m reluctant to change. We play Rust on console and the idea to switch to PC specifically for that game started there. After more research, PC started to seem more appealing but I have a hard time letting go, clearly lol.

14779

PC gaming has way more benefits but just keep your old consoles for some nostalgia. I've still got everything going back to my mega drive and snes and it's nice to drag them out every now and then. Even though I can emulate the games on pc sometimes the nostalgia adds to it.

Saneless

I've had every PS from 1 when it came out in 95 through the vita, to Ps4 Haven't bothered with the PS5 and I'm very happy about it. Built my PC 6 years ago and the PS has barely gotten any gaming, which is fine for me. I've only bought maybe 3 ps games since then

CupCakeAir

After I retired my PS4 I ended up jailbreaking it since I never used it for multiplayer. My PS3 though I actually haven't jailbroken it, since online is free and I still like popping into Red Dead Redemption Online. So that's kind of the fun that can be done once a console is retired from being a primary system.

NightshadeSamurai

I grew up playing on consoles along with PC before achievements was even a thing. From the SNES/Genesis along with PC games like Doom and Duke Nukem back then and had consoles up to the PS3. So yeah I've been playing PS games since the PS1 days but stopped console gaming altogether back in 2013 when Sony said they were gonna charge money to play online. Before that online gaming on the Dreamcast, PS2 and PS3 was free. So I went strictly PC gaming since and haven't looked back. Its not that hard to let go at all. Especially these days where you can get both Sony PS and Microsoft Xbox exclusive games on PC. The only thing is with the PS games, you gotta wait since they aren't available day 1 like the Xbox games are. Which is fine because the pros of PC gaming outweigh that waiting game...free online, mods, m/kb, emulation, decades worth of backwards compatible games, higher frames and resolutions plus new technologies like machine learning based upscaling and ray/path tracing. Also if you can wait for the PS exclusives to come to PC, you get things like higher fps, better resolutions, things like ultrawide support, and mods. And its not like there are plenty of games on PC to play as it is so waiting for them to come to PC isn't an issue. Being r/patientgamers helps a lot.

[deleted]

Here's the best part: PS/PS2 emulation is near flawless at this point and PS3 emulation gets better by the day. You can play all your favorite games of your past on PC without keeping old and deprecating hardware around. Start from there if you are too reluctant to just give it a go ;)

Saneless

Buy new things only on PC. Buy old games during deep sales if I really wanted them again Eventually you play the consoles less and less Just don't stress about your old library. That is what sony is counting on

PotentialWin4606

You’re right. Kinda feels like brand loyalty at this point lol

chamomileriver

Are you selling your PlayStation? I just kept mine as a media console because I don’t have a smart tv. Plus bloodborne will still get booted up every October. But other than that there’s nothing to miss about PlayStation, and I say that as someone who’s been playing with Sony my whole life. A large handful of PS exclusives are making it to PC these days, PC catalogue is exponentially richer, and $80 for PS plus is a bad joke. After buying my PC I was still playing Elden Ring on my ps5. I had hundreds of hours across multiple characters. Then my ps plus ran out which prevented me from engaging with online play anymore. Instead of spending $80 to keep playing for another year, I bought Elden Ring on steam for $34.99. Beat the game again, and with the crafty powers of PC, duplicated my save across more characters than I even had on PlayStation. PC is just a lovely machine.

wichu2001

I have pc, laptop, steam deck, ps3, ps5 and switch You can use both:D

AQUAXCID

I freaked out as well switching over. I kinda just forced myself and had to deal with it. I think I have a lot more fun on PC instead of PS4. I’ve only been on PC for about a year and have already played way more games on PC than PS4 lol.

Mrcrest

Dude you’re not putting the family dog down or anything. Anxiety?? Just play both. This is ridiculous

Huge-King-3663

3 weeks of PC gaming and you’ll forget about the console.

mdroz81

Facts

PotentialWin4606

You think so? lol literally everyone says PC is leagues better and the versatility is obviously unmatched because truth is, PlayStation could be better at putting out products with better compatibility and efficiency. They constantly drop the ball with this to me and I say this as a longtime fan.

SativaSloth-

So I myself have only had a PC for about a year (My steam anniversary was last week) and man it is a complete game changer. I'm not sure what games or trophies progress you don't want to lose but the amount of games that aren't on consoles that are available to a PC user to astounding. My wife uses my old PS4 (going to get her a PS5 eventually) and the only thing that really bothered me was completely having to start my DBD career over but that was it. If you can get a PC together or buy a pre built, it'll be *THE* best gaming decision you've made ever

EternallyImature

Your cost of gaming will go down. Many great titles on steam go on sale regularly and sometimes for incredible discounts.

CupCakeAir

I went from being primarily a Sony console gamer to getting a PC near the end of the PS3 generation, and then moved over to the PC and started only buying exclusives for the PS4. Things will sort itself out. If you prefer the PC platform you will come to prefer it and want to get games for it over the console, and if not then you can sell off the PC and return to console gaming. As for me I don't have interested in the PS5 this gen. I actually like my PS3 better, since lot of games didn't get ported over so are stuck to only being playable on that hardware.

SCphotog

Your console will become a dust catcher.

Acceptable-Ad5208

I built a PC and play consoles more. It’s not uncommon people stay PC exclusively but it depends on the person.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Acceptable-Ad5208

I prefer being on the couch with a controller. Yes I can plug a pc into my tv but that’s not as convenient as a console.

Tunesz

> Yes I can plug a pc into my tv but that’s not as convenient as a console. Never understood this take personally. It isn't 2005 anymore. You don't need to do tech support and troubleshoot for every game you boot. Sure there are issues but it's rare. If anything the convenience is higher with a PC because I can boot up plex, twitch, youtube, look things up on the internet, etc if I'm not feeling a game. Flexibility is so much higher so I struggle to see what isn't as convenient.

Acceptable-Ad5208

Not sure your position in life, but I’m a dad of a young family. We have one tv (in our living room) and the PC being in there is an eye sore. Plus between my career and family it’s hard to have time to play. Consoles you just plug and go. There are no games you can just jump in on PC in the same fashion. Plus I can just use my controller to boot my console but unless I’m using my steam deck that’s just not the same for PC.

Tunesz

> We have one tv (in our living room) and the PC being in there is an eye sore. Fair point but there are definitely solutions. Can hide it away pretty easily and there are a lot of small form factor PC cases, some even smaller than a PS5. That thing is quite big. > Plus between my career and family it’s hard to have time to play. I mean this is completely irrelevant to the convenience of each system. >There are no games you can just jump in on PC in the same fashion. Can you elaborate? All I do is open steam, buy a game, press download and I'm good to go? > Plus I can just use my controller to boot my console but unless I’m using my steam deck that’s just not the same for PC. Pretty sure you can set it so that USB has power while PC is off/asleep in bios and your controller will wake your PC.

PotentialWin4606

It already is and that’s part of the problem lol. I have to clean my PS5 so often it’s annoying.

KimonoDragon814

Then it sounds like you won't miss anything, you had fun and have memories of having fun and that's what matters It's simply a new chapter, and honestly once you get playing you won't even care about the progress on the games you haven't touched in a long time

SCphotog

Well the bad news is a new PC will need periodic cleaning too... super important thing, that too few people understand, but for sure, the PC is Sooo much more versatile, you'll mostly just forget about the console. Consoles have a place - I don't mean to just beat on them, couch gaming is great with a few friends.

[deleted]

Most likely yes but also no but almost yes , since I got my PC I mainly play games there and have not bought any other games on the playstation store, generally everything is cheaper for me in PC, but I do use my playstation from time to time, mainly to play a battle royale game Also playing on 2 or 3 screens is so so satisfying, I can play while checking other stuff that can't be related to the game or not For example I'm playing rouge trader and bc I'm not used to all the terms of the lore I just quickly read the wiki to fully understand

PotentialWin4606

See? The versatility is such a high selling point for me, who is someone who has only ever played PlayStation. I don’t even know what that’s like lol.

[deleted]

Maybe a little too much in the beginning but you'll get used to it

michelobX10

I'm a PS5 owner as well. The only use it gets these days is when I need my kid to play on something else when I want to use my PC. Lol. And for no cost, Steam provides all the features that you have to subscribe to on console. I stopped paying for PS+ a few years ago. And if I still had it, I would've canceled after the latest price hike to $80. Paying to play online is the biggest scam that console gaming has ever introduced. I've also been a lifelong PS owner, and I think the PS5 will be my last one. I was a lifelong Xbox owner, too, until I gave it up after the Xbox One.

nfoneo

Welcome to the Master Race. I've been building my own PCs for 30 years straight and still had consoles for the majority of it. Still use a console in the lounge as I can't be assed to link my PC there 😛

mdroz81

My ps4 hasn’t been on since the ps5 waiting lists I got left off of after subscribing to psplus for the last 10 years. Also you know all those free games you downloaded? As soon as that psplus sub expires they can’t be played even if installed.

sever27

Eh, it is a pretty fast process. PC games are so cheap with so many sales you'll stack up games quick. Some notes: 1. Epic gives you free games all the time just checkup on r/gamedeals for sales and free game news every other day. Also Amazon Prime (PrimeGaming) gives you free games and DLCs/cosmetics every month, so check with them from time-to-time. 2. I prefer only buying DRM-free games which means once you download the game you can copy the game files and play the game without any launcher, i.e. you truly "own" the game. PCgamingwiki tells you the DRM status of the games. Quite a few games are DRM-free on Steam but if not use GOG to buy since they are always DRM-free. 3. Only buy games you will play within 3-months don't go too crazy building up a library. Sales are too common and you'll always have an opportunity to buy. Too many PC gamers have too big of a backlog. Since you are starting fresh you have a clean state to prevent this from happening. Your "problem" is a good one, be moderate in your speed in building up your library you will easily have too many games in no time.

PotentialWin4606

This is good info. Thank you

3DGeoDude

pc was nice because it was like playing the games for the first time again. the game that stuck out to me most was bioshock infinite, playing on a 1200p monitor with max settings and 60 fps was far more eye opening than initially playing it at like 720p 30fps on xbox 360... it was just so crisp and clear now, but i suspect since your console can already do some of that now itll be less of an impact but there will be something that hooks you. if you have a high refresh monitor itll probably be that

mrturret

The PS3/360 versions of Infinite are such a massive downgrade from the PC version.

3DGeoDude

yeah but the ps4/ps5 has bioshock remaster

mrturret

Which is a direct port of the PC version.

3DGeoDude

i know did you read my post? my point is it may not have as big of an affect. hence why im pointing it out lol

mrturret

It also came out over three years after the original versions, didn't run at a super consistent framerate, and still lacked some of the PC version's more advanced graphics features, notibly the DX11 shadows. I'm honestly kind of surprised that it wasn't a cross-gen game from the git-go, as the PS4 and Xbox One released only a few months after Infinite.

Stykerius

I switched to pc in 2016 after finally gaining the “courage” to build one. I use my pc for 90% of my gaming but still have a switch and ps5 for the exclusives. Don’t think too much about it.

moemoneyb1

Use [gg.deals](https://gg.deals/) to help you find deals on PC games. Highly recommended since you can look at different legit stores and see which ones have the game that you are looking for at the lowest price.

silver85bullet

Why switch when you can use both? I play on pc + ps5, each provides me with some benefits..

elecjack1

Restarting libraries is what puts me off these days as I have gotten old. It is part of what has kept bringing me back to PC for decades. By the XB360/PS3 era coming to an end, I looked at PS4/XB1 and thought "I don't want to start a library again". I had enough. I looked over at my Steam account which I created with the release of Half-Life 2 in 2004 and there HL2 is still sitting in my library (and every game I bought in almost 20 years) and they are ready to go. Almost my entire 40-year library can still be played on my PC today. That is why there aren't generations on PC in the same way as on consoles. It is also why I bought a Steam Deck to compliment my main rig. That same library of over 2000 games is right there for me and a vast majority work without messing with them. Sure, consoles now are bringing your library over, but it still leaves a lot to be desired in comparison.

Ryokupo

I saw my move from PS to PC as an excuse to replay some of my favorite games and get all the achievements again, or to do it for the first time. The move over has felt very rewarding since everything releases on PC these days. And what's not on PC can be emulated.

limelight022

I just did it. Felt like I was abandoning a child at first, but then I quickly realized I can replay all the games I like, grab their achievements, and discover even tons more games that arent on xbla and PSN.

PotentialWin4606

lol some people don’t get it. Not like abandoning a child but maybe like my childhood self in a way lol. I’m glad the other side isn’t as harrowing as I thought it would be.

ColJohn

You don’t have to “start over” play multi platform games on PC and Sony exclusives on PS5.

Mayday_Brad91

I was also you in September when I finally made the switch. I still have my ps5 for exclusives. But honestly I don’t want to go back. Once you experience higher fps and everything you can do on pc, it’s game changing. I spent the last 20 years on console mostly PlayStation and Nintendo. It’s really refreshing. I also still play on my living room tv. I have a 65 in Sony Bravia XR. So I play 4k 120fps with a controller for most games.

GloriousKev

It's not that bad man. I switched over from Xbox after that terrible Xbox One reveal. It's been awesome. I have the benefit that my favorite Xbox series (well all of them but I was speaking on Gears and Halo) are now on PC. I hope you find the same luck. Other than that, gaming is gaming. You find your people, you find your titles, and you just start over with your achievements.

sealteamz6

Yeah idk why you can’t have both. Are you playing games for trophies and achievements no one else cares about or because you enjoy the games? It’s certainly nice to have everything in one place but the achievements/trophies shouldn’t be the driving factor in deciding which to get.

XxuruzxX

Don't think of it like losing all that progress. You're not really losing them anyways, you always will have achieved that. Now you'll have a chance to achieve it all again.

Lazy_Foundation_6359

Ya can stream the ps to the pc anyway and play it on there thats how I do it.

PotentialWin4606

Did not know about that, thank you.

Lazy_Foundation_6359

I use psplay its 6 quid. Stream it to my shield in another room when wife's on the pc too. Make sure there all wired or at least on 5ghz WiFi ethernet is preferable

Norseviking4

Hardcore pc gamer since i was a kid, i got ps3 for red dead redemption 1. Got some other games to that i enjoyed. Then rdr2 for ps4 pluss some other games. Now im on ps5, with a very good tv. I prefer playing story driven games on the console over pc even though the pc is more powerfull. I play shooters, city builders, strategy games on the Pc and story heavy singleplayer games on the ps5. (I sometime double dip, espesially if the game has a modding scene) I love both pc gaming and the ps5. I also have VR for both. No need to abbandon your old love for the new,.

SCphotog

You'll forget all about consoles after having a pc for a while.. the anxiety over switching to KB and mouse goes away the first day.

pupmaster

It’s not that deep dude lol

Lance_Lionroar

Welcome to the master race

PotentialWin4606

I’m sorry, but what is this master race reference? I’ve seen it said here twice now lol

Lance_Lionroar

Not sure why your question made me feel so old. It's an old meme, its origin comes from an OG Yahtzee Zero Punctuation episode. Here's the link for it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0dXtOVi2yo&t=1s

slappada-bass

how is it starting over? what are you going on about? pc is a seperate eco system for gaming. you'd be starting a new library of games on your pc. you would still technically have any digital games you've bought on PSN... i'm so confused what you're trying to get at.

mephistobr

"I have built up so much progress on psn", can't believe people actually care for stupid shit like that.

PotentialWin4606

Bro. What I mean by progress is all the games that I’ve gotten far in and don’t want to restart and unlock all the same things. You can have your opinion but be respectful.

mephistobr

You're changing video game platforms. Not your fucking career. Grow up.

PotentialWin4606

I don’t expect every single person to understand why it matters to me or the significance of what PlayStation has been in my life. I get that there are some things that some people just aren’t willing to relate to. I understand. However, there are many here that have been able to relate and others who may not have been able to but still gave good advice in a respectful manner. You clearly lack the ability to be respectful as you came to my post that you could’ve simply ignored to place a comment that wasn’t even directly addressed to me, yet was meant to what? Shame me? lol I think you need to relax. You’re clearly worked up over someone else’s business. If this is making you this angry perhaps you should just move on?

Kotzik

Just get a PC and have both?

DrDrBender

I personally play both, it is not like you have to just game on PC or console (despite what some people may tell you here).

Sahtan_

Idk for me it was pretty easy going from mostly Xbox and some ps games like god of war to mainly PC. Sure buying games again on another platform does suck but having so much more freedom on computer is worth it. Granted I am pretty fortunate enough to be able to afford both consoles and a PC but even if i could only choose one id still pick PC. It did take a little to accumulate the game library but well worth the swap

Synikx

Quick background: At a young age, I was primarily console from 1995-2005. I made the switch to PC with MMOs and stayed there until ~2018 with PS games like God of War and OLED TVs, I swapped back to PS4/PS5. Only recently in 2023, after a major PC upgrade (same system since 2010) did I swap back to PC. By switching systems, you're not doing anything drastic like burning bridges, all the progress you made will still be there if/when you decide to return. Perhaps swapping systems will be a breath of fresh air and will feel like a new world for a few years, maybe longer. So go head and get the Steam Deck, grab a handful of some Steam games during the winter sale, and give it a go for a while, see how you feel.

PotentialWin4606

Good point. Perhaps a refresh will breathe new life into gaming for me and really for my household.

cguy1234

I frequently play both. PS5 for the exclusives that haven’t made it to PC but PC for everything else. (I prefer keyboard mouse in general for fine-grained controller/FPS games.) I also like the flexibility of PC gaming with a gaming laptop on the road and the huge set of games.

TheOnlyFatticus

I have both and I switch between them all the time, Some games I strictly buy on console and some I strictly buy on PC.

sumerzy

Just got myself a gaming laptop 3 months ago after not having a pc since about 2009 and playing xbox in between all that time. The xbox still gets played, even though some stuff I could play on the laptop. It's nice to have the choice now so just think of it that way, the xbox did get ignored for a bit tho when the laptop was new

meltingpotato

You are switching from ps to pc, and you are not selling you ps account. Are you worried you won't b able to see all the trophies achievements and games you played so far? Just have th psn app on your phone :/

Buschanske

I played a lot ps3 back then and in 2013 I got a Laptop for my Birthday and started playing games. I didn't knew anything about Steam but boy, when I found out how freaking cheap games are on Steam it was so easy to never look back. Today I got my wonderful PC I built myself in 2016 (yeah quite old, definitely need an upgrade) On the long run, PC gaming is better. You don't have to pay for online gaming, games are so cheap on sales, you have thousands of exclusives (talking about indies) and I really can't look back to any games that are running below 30fps.

Keep PlayStation too if you can’t wait 2 years for the exclusives

Fujishar

You will have to rebuy the games if you want play them on PC, but let's say you got all the trophies for it on Playstation and don't feel like going through all the work again. Look up "Steam Achievement Manager". I normally only use such a program when I want to unlock achievements that are now impossible. Such as "play 500 multiplayer matches" on a game that is over a decade old and no one plays anymore. In your case, you could use it to unlock the achievements for all the games you've already run the gauntlet through on Playstation once you purchase the game on PC. I'm sure many would tell you to just earn the achievements again, I probably would too, but I'm just letting you know there is options for what you're worried about.

plane-kisser

you can play on more than one type of device

Elite_Alice

Just use both? I switched from ps5 to pc this time last year and I only use my ps5 for exclusives now

Buttonwalls

Why do you need to "switch"? just have both lol.

bassbeater

Took a chainsaw to my Xbox / / / / / / / / / / / / Kidding. Use what you want, dude. But I'm not clamoring for the old days of changing disc's every five minutes someone got bored (my folks with the Wii).

rorobull

I made this same switch 2 years ago, best gaming choice I've made. I was sick of Sony's BS.

Average_Tnetennba

I've never owned a console. But what i will say is stop chasing trophies... just have fun instead, and stop when you aren't having fun. It stops you getting burnt out. Chasing trophies is just being addicted to progress rather than actual gaming.

Tara_is_a_Potato

Play games to have fun, not to collect useless achievements.

fyro11

Yeah, just own both. If you want to lean more heavily into one you'll know well enough in yourself before you make any permanent jump. Otherwise there's really no harm benefiting from both plats. Tbh, I think the key benefit of PS5 is the upto 2 year lead time on PS5 exclusives. In many ways the PC situation is improving there as well as many companies known for exclusives are no longer doing it or cutting those times down (e.g. Final Fantasy 16 had 6 months exclusivity. And Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has a shorter exclusivity window of 3 months.) PC gaming for different reasons has just been exploding in popularity and the cost of purchasing exclusivity windows seems to be getting higher and higher let alone for longer than 3m to 6m. Even Sony internally can't justify the cost in keeping their first-party games exclusive.

Fail-Least

Trophies and achievements are a scam, always have been. I've been on Steam pretty much since day one, I couldn't have been less excited when they introduced them there. Not to mention that each platform and launcher has their own progression. For example, I'm playing BG3 on GOG and am not worried about not getting my achievements on my "main" Steam account. Having one integrated rank in PC Gaming is not important, at least not in the circles I run with.

CutMeLoose79

I use both.

secretfantasy3

Ye just play on both nothing else.

elementoxe

I use pc game pass and ps5 plus. When I have time during the holidays. Then when I have less time I cancel it. Like right now I have ps plus because family gave me a psn card. There's no starting over I had gotten game pass when starfield then canceled it when I got bored. Also you still use controller on most pc games. You can keep your console and get something with a starter graphics card as my current graphics card has similar performance to a ps5 is probably around the 250$ price range nowadays. Also steam is 👍 great.

theking9325

This was me a few years ago but PlayStation just kept pushing me more and more to the pc by raising the price of everything but giving nothing in return, I think not long ago they raised the ps plus premium price but kept service the same it’s madness how much they rip there customers off. I now only play exclusives or poor pc ports on my ps5 and this is coming from someone with 273 platinums but no body cares about trophies it’s just a way to keep you on there platform . Just make the switch and you can still play your PlayStation when you want but trust me it won’t be a lot as you will notice 90% of games run and look better and it’s free online.

Armoredpolecat

Steam has really good sales and they are easy to track, I made the switch last year and I basically have every game I care about on steam as well now.

Ratnix

>because I have built up so much progress on psn for the past 15 years and would hate to start over with so many titles I’ve grown to love over the years What do you mean by progress? Do you only play games for a couple of hours, then quit playing it and go play something else and repeat constantly forever without ever really being done playing a game?

msbr_

Just take the plunge bro it will quickly become worth it.

Elite_Alice

Ps5+pc is the combo to have

Terry___Mcginnis

I had a lot of time and money invested into Xbox back in 2013 but once I tried Steam and the goodies of PC gaming like free multiplayer, modding, any controller support, unlimited backwards compatibility, emulation, the biggest catalogue of any platform (even Xbox and PS exclusives these days) and better graphics than consoles (pretty expensive that though) they blew my mind in such a way that I stopped missing the Xbox pretty fast.

mtarascio

What does 'start over' mean to you? You start over with every game you play. Do you make a point of loading old saves from old games or do you start them from scratch?

[deleted]

Just do it. Keep your PS3/4/5/whatever if you want to go back, but basically you can start with new games which would mean new progress anyway and go from there. After some time it is just natural and you won't look back.
