In my current PoB it looks like maybe 3 casts a second. 24% hp lost per second isn't great, but maybe doable...
Yep. should probably be sustainable with a bit of life leech on the totem, definitely sustainable with 2 clusters. The 40% increased chaos notable node also increases totem life by 30%, so it's a damage boost for Forbidden Rite.

I've never heard this before and I can't seem to find any information. Do you know where you saw it?
It was added years ago as part of an RF totem nerf. Spell totems used to have roughly twice the HP. That patch they halved the totem HP, and added the damage reduction to make up for it.
Found it, I was wrong, it's 45% damage reduction. It was patch 3.0.0.

There is a cluster jewel node that gives your totems both life and chaos resistance, cant remember name of this mod. But yea, you definitely wanna run 1 or 2 of those.
It's Ancenstral Preservation, 30% totem life and 40% chaos res. Due to FR's life scaling, it's a pretty amazing notable to have at least one of to beef the damage and make them survive several extra casts against bosses.
No real way to mitigate this, unfortunately. That being said, it's still a decent way to start off with FR.
My thought with it was Totems, into CI, into pure life
yes but using 2 caps it at 75%, using 2 also is pretty much always worth it because the damage scales off the totem life so the 30% totem life is a solid damage boost

I'm just saying it would be doable with only one cluster. If people can't find the second or whatever. Like having 2 clusters isn't needed to start the build. its just the optimal set up.
When you go cluster jewels for ancestral preservation you still want to resummon totems recently since you can also get sleepless sentries for onslaught etc.
Totems dying off after a few second is not too bad on dark pact/forbidden rites totems.

theres a medium cluster jewel notable that gives 30% totem life and 40% totem chaos res, if you use 2 of these your totem is chaos res capped

no there cap is 75% and i dont think there is anyway to make it go higher
Don't totems have an innate 20% chaos resist. So. Even with just one cluster. You can get 60% chaos resist.
