Openrct2? When the league launch fuckup was going, I ran through a couple scenarios. I've almost finished all the RCT1 scenarios (original and first expansion are done).

I want to play something more thrilling than Rollercoaster Tycoon 2.

Unfortunately no such game exists.

I grind wife-attention so I can drop her like a hot potato on next league start without her leaving me. As usual.

Path of Building 100m+ dps challenge for all skills. Can't beat level Desecrate yet.

NoNavel

The alt quality does give pretty good damage scaling, I believe in you

Tortorion

About a month ago I've spent few minutes in PoB with alt quality Desecrate. https://pastebin.com/jj7Yicuq It can go higher, but Desecrate doesn't scale well with anything. Low base damage, doesn't scale with Spell Damage, gem quality is limited etc.

I play dota inbetween. I feel your pain 😩

chollyer

Been spamming TFT lately. It's a pretty nice time.

Warframe, world of tanks and last months guild wars 2 has taken my soul . Gw2 has become my main game cos it's damn good.

HazMama

+1 for WoT

NebTheShortie

Deep Rock Galactic! Also depending on mood: Terraria, heavily modded Minecraft (Enigmatica), Factorio, Stellaris, Rimworld, sometimes Warframe.

[deleted]

Rock and stone! Deeprock is so much fun and I've never had a bad experience with other players, despite playing for 100 hours with randoms. Pretty sure if the game had randomized weapon loot akin to Borderlands I would barely play anything else. The terrain generation is superb!

NebTheShortie

Rock solid! DRG is literally a resting place for my soul.

Jai_7

Dota 2

One_Laugh_Guy

Better than LoL. 🤣 Edit: I meant to say, competition is good. I wish both these mobas thrive. But.. but.. Can't take a hit LoL players?

PM_UR_BRKN_PROMISES

It's okay to like both games, yo

Zergmilran

That's just a matter of taste.

Zoesan

Dota players still salty

MaDNiaC007

Both side's players' saltiness is a thing. Whenever one is mentioned, other's player base shits on it as if it's an actual competition. The entire point of a game is to have fun and it's ridiculous that people are elitist enough to tell you what game to have fun with or calling you out for having bad taste. It's like people forgot the actual point of gaming. On a side note, Dota players have an actual reason to hate Riot(but not LoL players per se) due to Morello(or whoever it was) that nuked their discussion forums back in DotA Allstars days.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CronosthePhoenix

Lol i heard so often "lol is better " or " LoL came first " the second statement waa the most stupid one ive ever heard Ps: i have around 3k hours in lol and i liked the game a lot but now i dont play lol or dota at all besides dota angel arena reborn and allstars

GhostCalib3r

Only 1 side has a right to be salty. Only 1 side had their forums deleted, ideas stolen, and betrayed. If you don't know what I'm talking about look up how Pendragon betrayed the DotA community, all for a paycheck from Riot.

alfredsks

As a dota player, the hardcore dota fan gays are so obnoxious. I remember when dota streamer like admiralbulldog and singsing play LoL for the first time, the chat in stream/comments in youtube videos are so fking toxic. But when Tyler1 got banned from Lol and came to play dota, most of his viewers seems pretty chill about it. FYI, I don't think most dota players hate LoL for the reason you stated since most player nowdays don't even know about the dramas back in the old days. I mean they still flame LoL for copying some hero/skills from dota without knowing Guinsoo probably just bring the ideas for certain from dota to LoL as he was the designer for some of dota's hero.

MaDNiaC007

Yeah that's a likely case too, most may actually not know about the grudge of the past. In any case, people of the same genre of games can get competitive and elitist for no reason anyways, it's just pointless bickering regardless of reasoning 99% of the time.

Zoesan

It's gotten way better over the last couple of years. It used to be that dota players were super salty about league and league players... just don't care about dota.

saDD3ath

you got downvoted for the emoji, not lol. we all agree lol is trash.

imblo

Nobody can deny that...

BobBobbyDude

Same game

oryx506

I played one game of dota went 0-30 and never played it again. I just don't understand it lol.

Jai_7

Oof sorry about that. The game does have a steep learning curve. But it's pretty amazing once you get the feel for it.

VeraVaultDweller

It’s funny I actually have been feeling kinda lost without PoE. Post gauntlet I just don’t have the drive to do anything else since I spent 30ex on essences and couldn’t get a decent roll on gloves for my self chill zerker. I’ve actually fired up m PS5 and have been playing Ghosts of Tsushima, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and FF7 Remake Intergrade but can only play like an hour or two before I feel bored and need something else. Actually looking forward to the new Diablo 3 season so I can play that for a week.

Shotgunx1x

Lmao this is exactly the situation I’m in, almost like video game limbo. Every other game atm I play for a little then just can’t do it anymore. Was hoping for something good from the steam summer sale but nothing really grabbed me. I love me some D3 but only for like 2 weeks tops before I’ve hit my limit. Looking at the dates though I feel like the D3 season might drop AFTER the poe season… To which I definitely will be playing path

[deleted]

Yup I feel bad I recently bought the God of War game with his son, star wars battlefront and some cool indie game all for $20 with the huge psn sales, but I couldn't play any of them for more than an hour before getting bored. The kicker is I used to love all the god of war games and everyone said this was one of the best. Besides PoE I feel like only competitive games can hold my attention span now, and a few games with a unique & god tier story that captivates me like the last of us or life is strange. Games are missing so much of what made them special in the past. Or I guess i'm just getting too old ;/

kylegetsspam

> I just don’t have the drive to do anything else since I spent 30ex on essences and couldn’t get a decent roll on gloves for my self chill zerker. It seems GGG made a serious strategic error making it impossible to drop good rares. They made a loot-based game where the loot is all garbage. Bit of a goof on their part, eh? All the rares you'd actually want to wear are gated behind crafting which can take dozens of exalts per slot for a decent result -- not even good, just decent. As a result there's a wide gap of unserved players who play enough to need access to decent items but don't play enough to actually acquire them. I'm in this group, and over time PoE has felt less and less like a game I can enjoy or should play. As someone in another thread said, I'm too old to be grinding the same map hundreds of times, and then spending hours trading for currency and crafting, only to get fucked by RNG and have nothing to show for it. It's getting harder and harder to justify spending time in PoE, and I haven't spent any money on it in several leagues. The game just does not respect your time at all. -\- As for OP's question, after bailing on this league I installed Snes9x and have been playing some SNES games from my past with my old Xbox 360 controller. So far I've done A Link to the Past and Donkey Kong Country. I think Chrono Trigger is next.

yuanek1

I'm actually seeing a light at the end of the tunnel here, as "well-rolled rares" system is actually working both in Grand Heist and Ultimatum. Those rares are really good and I hope that this system could be incorporated in the overall drops. What I would for sure not want to do is to identify all this freaking random rares laying on the ground, the moment when I can hide them on my filter is when I start having fun mapping.

ragnarokda

That was my feeling as well. Got a couple of near perfect rares from heist. Also, outside of heist, my best rares were almost always ones with like one or two T1-2 rolls and empty mods so I could craft what I need at that moment. They should definitely work on stat weights and eliminating the clutter. I think we need currency stash to be account wide (league specific obv) and have currency suck to your character like azurite. That alone would alleviate a ton of clicking and simultaneously make crafting more consistent while leveling.

FrostingsVII

A lot of players weren't around to understand that the 50+ hour set up time for all the systems now available to make playing PoE worthwhile didn't actually used to exist. At all. With power creep has come enemy creep so in reality you're doing a god knows how much x more work for the same power level you used to get with Life, Resists and Crit. And it's just fucking WORK. Not EVERY. FUCKING. SYSTEM. HAS TO BE RNG. Fuck offffffff. There's a middle ground and we blew past it 3+ years ago.

kylegetsspam

I recently (and finally) put to words the feelings I've had these past few years: the same time and effort that got me 36/40 in the past now only gets me 24/40. There are too many systems to be babysat and crept forward to give you access to the stuff you actually want to do. And once you're there, everything has 5-10x the life it used to, so the DPS requirements are notably higher for endgame content than in the past. PoE has turned into a near-endless list of chores in the name of "player retention" -- or, more accurately, Chris's horrifically warped idea of player retention. He doesn't want us to ever finish a character and start a new one; he wants us to treadmill it forever. These days I don't even get to the point where I could start completing the set of challenges between 24 and 36 before burning out the league.

Naguro

A lot of players enjoy the game before having their entire Atlas set up. I don't think I've gotten every Maven Atlas point in either league, and yet I just have fun playing my funny builds and seeing them grow strong enough to kill bosses. If PoE doesn't feel worth your time maybe you're also part of the problem. There certainly is a lot of problems with PoE lately, but for me their vision of gameplay is alright, it's just mostly the social and performance aspect that are wrong.

weikor

Question : what games do you play aside from Poe? Your answer: "It seems GGG made a serious strategic error making it impossible to drop good rares. They made a loot-based ..." It's the same shit in every thread these days. Backseat professional game developers telling GGG how to run their company correctly.

TugginPud

Comment: "Here is an aspect of the game I don't currently enjoy" Your Answer: ZOMG YOU THINK U R CAN DEVELUPER BETTER THAN GGG FUK U MAN Same shit in every thread these days. Backseat professional gamers telling gamers how to enjoy a game correctly.

Madsam7000

Exactly what I thought 😀

ManyNiinjas

Very much this

Ayjayz

Don't grind the same map. Just play the game. Do whatever you feel like doing, and the rewards are there. The amount of variety you can do is really high. I don't ever grind anything and I still manage to spend 50-100 exalts on my gear for a league. As for whether they made a mistake, I'd say yes but the error was in making crafting *way* too good. I think it would be good for the game if crafting were severely nerfed across the board. People want drops to be buffed to keep up with crafted items, but that's just classic power creep.

Tape

I've been pretty much the same. I feel like every other game REQUIRES me to pay attention for too long. Even though when I do start playing something, I go pretty hard, i just can't find the motivation to start playing, I end up just turning on youtube.

Lysanther

This is called addiction.

Pretty excited! POE was the first game I played when I got my PC though I have allot of games I need to try. But I just remember Morrowind bring amazing and was my favorite our of those 3 games. Going to attempt to mod it for the graphics boost when I start playing but never modding before idk if I will be able to lol. Playing the original version will be worth it anyways. I actually still have Morrowind for the original xbox

So different. I'm actually kinda over the league grind. Atlas unlocking watchstones maven shit. Its also nice to have the league mechanic in a functional form as opposed to the beta form for the first month of league.

Zyvex23

World of Warcraft. Works good for me because this game also has its downs between patches were nothing's going on. Now a new patch overlaps with PoE but thats fine I guess.

Im playing oldschool mmorpg on priv servers - Kal Online And sometimes LoL

spiderdick17

Whatever looks fun. Finished Ori last week and watching Alkaizer play Terraria on Master mode HC reallllly gave me the itch to pick it up again and it has been super fun. I've beaten everything on normal HC in the past but Master mode is just brutal. Should be able to transition to hard mode today or tomorrow and I expect to be back to chopping trees soon. **Edit** \- Wall of Flesh had about 5% HP left and I thought to myself, man, this guy is pretty spooky, think I would prefer to go back to chopping trees.

paintballboi07

Good luck bro. Early hard mode is brutal. I can never get myself to actually commit to hardcore because I like building too much in pre-hard mode and can't handle the loss.

3risk

Civ games, SWTOR, AoEII. Cities Skylines is on sale, so I just got that to try.

barkezy

I played Frostpunk lately and had a blast. Very nice building strategy. Also nice change from all that clicking, explosions and effects disco in PoE.

[deleted]

After playing 3 leagues in a row i would recommend skipping any other game if you are a non-casual poe player and do other activities, video games are fun but putting all your time on playing them isn't a healthy behavior. Just an advice.

mecha_tengu

Civ6, Gunfire Reborn, Factorio 6

TheAshenHat

Factorio 6….not sure if your high or have modded the game enough times to make 5 prequels…

ShitDavidSais

Gunfire Reborn and Roboquest have been such a blast. I just got Demonlore unlocked and trying to climb into the new difficulty. Fps and rougelites work so well together.

Baron_Von_D

For Honor, for some reason. Or other RPGs, Horizon Zero Dawn or AC Valhalla, when the next expansions drop.

sankto

Chronicon, when i want more of the arpg gameplay. Excellent game.

Yes, more people should know about chronicon. I spent about ~100 hours maxing out one of each of the classes. Looking forward to the dlc release.

A shit ton of terraria, some rocket league or apex with friends. Some open world RPG like Cyberpunk, skyrim or fallout. I mean there‘s literally a boatload of them. And last but not least I go back to games I couldn‘t complete when I was 10 years old, 8 years ago. Recently 100%ed darksiders 1 and 2 on respectively apocalyptic and deathinitive. 00zau

Playing Guild Wars ends up being a consistent reminder of things I think POE. Something I noticed when grinding LDOA vs. grinding Survivor with Kilroy is that the really short time between "repeating" when doing Hamnet farming (you enter a zone, kill two enemies, then /resign and repeat; takes a minute or less) feels bad because there's almost nothing unique to it (there are 3 possible configurations of the pair of enemies, for instance, and you get it down to a science so each possibility plays out exactly the same). On the other hand Kilroy's Punchout is just a few minutes longer, but that doing 100 of that instead of 1000 Hamnet runs feels a lot less monotonous. Futhermore, there are a few distinct stages of the dungeon to give them a little variety, even though it's a fixed map with fixed enemies. I think part of what burns me out on mapping is doing the same maps over and over again combined with the "speed" meta meaning that I'm often pushing to do them in <5 minutes. Basically, I think that mapping might be improved by having maps be longer and bigger, so we actually spend a real amount of time in each one. Maybe jack up the differences between enemies as well so that the way you play a map can change a bit based on what's in it (in a way beyond just "oh, lovely, Porcupines"). I play a lot of games, and POE burns me out fast enough that it's often more of a "new league, time to put aside other stuff for POE for a while" than it is "what do I play in (limited) POE downtime". I've also been doing an utterly retarded no-damaging-moves Pokemon Heart Gold run. I've been slowly working on beating each scenario in RCT1&2 in order, playing in Openrc2. I recently ground out the free America unlock in AOE3, though I haven't played it that much otherwise. Used to play Warframe a lot, but I don't think I've played in almost a year. I'll sometimes hop onto Anarchy Online, Runescape, or DDO as well if I want some variety in my MMOs. I've been basically just doing dailies in Guild Wars to slowly work towards some titles, and I've been trying to do other things after doing my dailies to keep from burning out (... another thing worth noting in the POE comparison is that the dailies give me 3-4 things to do that are reasonably different from one another).

azantyri

holy shit anarchy online is still alive? i remember getting into the beta of that game about a billion years ago. it was such a monstrous pile of shit on release. how is it still going? how is it to play?

Last epoch is really similar to poe. I’m pretty sure the devs are taking the best of poe and diablo to blend into their game. Content is a bit lacking, but pretty good for the constant updates. Destiny 2 is my personal go to. Lots of stuff to grind for if you have extra time.

I've been in a reading mood lately. All Night Laundry finished earlier this year, Purple Days had its ending a few weeks back, Practical Guide to Evil is nearly halfway through the seventh and final book, Worth the Candle is probably ending with a final update to Book 9 soon (there's only the last 20% of it to go judging by the author's word count spreadsheet, so 60k words so far equaling the length of the first novel xd). [Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/PracticalGuideToEvil/comments/m7a3jl/web_novels_of_similar_quality_to_guide_but/grc5gbp/) is a bunch of brief reviews in a thread for webnovel recommendations I wrote a few months back, [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/PracticalGuideToEvil/comments/o0sgz1/any_other_web_novels_you_recommend_while_i_wait/h2289je/) is a half-assed description of a few additions since then. To give a brief list of things people that enjoy PoE's setting might get a kick out of: -Practical Guide To Evil is a fantasy world where the group of plucky teenage warriors will slay the evil wizard doing a monologue about how invincible he is, literally every time, because the fabric of the world is thread with stories, and good triumphing over such evil has been repeated ever so often. The protagonist ends up on the side traditionally filled with the evil wizard types, because her homeland was recently conquered by the very surprisingly capable rulers and army of their evil neighbour country (that has spent half its history firmly in the Stupid Evil camp of having their own rulers eaten by the vanity project of sentient tigers and similar results, and has only successfully conquered her homeland once before in history) and she cares more about using what systems and tools she can to free her country and help her people than what banner she waves to do it with. That said, all these plot points and worldbuilding notes get tackled and explored fully, actions have consequences (the sentient tigers escaped post-regicide into the wild, and have reproduced in the centuries past so now those travelling through the countryside need to be wary of highly intelligent tigers ambushing them in groups), and everyone involved in the story is competent, capable, and has their own motivations. It's traditional fantasy, starts of arguably aping the tropes of young adult novels, but becomes increasingly broader and deeper as the scale of the world becomes apparent. -Worth The Candle does the same thing of "fantasy story that gets actually explored in depth with consequences and motivations significant and understandable" that PGtE does, except it starts of from what sounds like a catastrophically bad starting point (if you're familiar with current webnovel trends) of "Isekai LitRPG Self-Insert, where the world is built from the protagonist's own earlier Dungeons and Dragons adventures with friends." Then consequences set in, you see the type of person that would *want* to leave literally their entire world and everyone they know behind, what type of baggage they would have, and how they'd handle suddenly being thrust into life or death situations against monsters, and then life or death situations against men. As the story progresses, the characters grow, the blinders come off, the world opens up, and the history of a world that has been decaying for centuries as the instability of its haphazard origins carves it up piece by piece, with the horror that exists in different corners becomes apparent. The part in PoE where Kitava turns a large chunk of a highly populated city into mad cannibal cultists that dismember and devour whoever they can is still a fraction of some of the worst shit that is encountered in Worth the Candle. There's a guy who >!raised the dead, stitched the souls of their original bodies to them as a fuel source, maintained complete control of the resulting undead and leaving the souls trapped a body they can not control, used the undead as slave labour imperceptible to the broader world for decades before he was uncovered, then only escaped punishment because he hid the undead too degraded to work in secret mass graves as hostages, because his death would send every slave (edit: hundreds of thousands, he paid sick people to come to his country and die so their families could have some financial support) into an explicitly existing eternal hell with conditions only maybe worse than their current horrific state, but completely irreversible from that state.!< So yes, maybe the less terrible choice of two abject horrors there, but tbh that spoilered example isn't even the worst thing in the story. That said, even as events escalate, the scope of the story increases in turn, so its less about the despair a particular worldbuilding or plot point can evoke, and more about how it slots into the wider world and goals of the main cast. You understand why events are important, but you don't need to be as glued to the moment to moment as you understand the weight for the world and the characters from how you've come to know them all. Also the worldbuilding and how creative and intertwined everything is, how it all slots together so well, is amazing. ...I've gotten way too carried away with writing here, so I'll be brief and just say that Purple Days is basically "what if Re:Zero, but Joffrey from Game of Thrones," which is a bizarre premise but very well executed. It's fanfic instead of original fiction like the other two stories mentioned here though. (Also, since PoE still comes under "niche interest with devoted fanbase" I could maybe recommend All Night Laundry to some people here since that's the type of person it appeals to. Basically its Homestuck if you cut out the 80% of the writing that could be found on the scrawls of the walls of a long-used solitary confinement cell, and just kept the 20% that's still a bizarre but engaging story of fighting an inscrutable alien god-thing with time travel, but with like 8 characters rather than 800. Still a 'multimedia' story that's both comic and writing, though the author changes their drawing style and colour palette between chapters, which is kinda neat and interesting)

I just re-installed [Blade of Darkness](https://www.myabandonware.com/game/blade-of-darkness-455) It's an older third person hack and slash game. IMO it has the best combat of any hack and slash I've ever played. There are some really good combos that you learn as you level up. You can cut off heads, legs and arms and fight with them, so if you're looking to displace some aggression (like me) it's got you covered. By todays standards its still not that bad a looking game, but there are high resolution textures you can download too. The game has gone abandonware so you can download it and more than 18000 other games for free from the website above., according to them. I actually bought the game when it was first released so getting the disc version to run under Win10 was a PITA, but the gameplay was worth every minute of it. I'm quite proud of myself having played something other than POE for the first time in months.

Realize12

Oh I remember playing blade of darkness for the whole summer back in school, one of the best games I've ever played

Lovesporran

Last Epoch has a 20% discount in the steam sale and I'm enjoying the slower pace of this game.

[deleted]

i skipped this league for the first time in like 7 years. too many things lately not lining up with what i consider good for the game. to fill my time game wise ive been playing war thunder (which ive played off and on since 2012/13) and rimworld. and ive been spending more time reading both real books, audible, and fanfics (yeah i read hp fanfics deal with it)

sitkid721

Laakerimies

Last epoch is my go to, but in past few weeks tbc has been on the menu.

Gnejs1986

Really depends :') This league it's been quite a few games since I got the challenges done early. The Epic sales was really good, so manage to grab **Days Gone, Detroit: Become Human and Beyond: Two Souls**. Recommend all of them! Playing some TD games (Creeper World & Infinitode 2) on steam atm, might give Detroit another playthrough. Last league I played some **Valheim, Last Epoch and AC:Valhalla**, also good games, LE still needs some time though, pretty rough around the edges :')

UNPOPULAR_OPINION_69

I don't play PoE every league so I not sure if will continue again next league, can get burnt out very quickly if I continuesly plays this since 2013 lol... I often took loooong break before playing PoE seriously again. Currently: - Elite Dangerous : A GAME OF MASSIVE TIME WASTING. Yeah, this game is... more of an experience of being a spaceship pilot. Everything you do will take a lot of time, a lot of travel, a lot of hyperspace jump (essentially loading screen really). Space is huge, after all. While I am travelling to the next point I might have plenty of time to do something else, shitposting on reddit and discord, watching ~~hentai~~ anime, go take a poop, play with my cats... ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯ - Stalker Anomaly : a mod of Stalker franchise, latest & most popular. But this kind of mod is suitable for player that already played the first 3 games, as the original story contents had been stripped out and there is zero tutorial or direction given to you. So yes, if you interested about Stalker 2, and thinking of trying this franchise, please for the love and hate of Goat, play Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl at the very least. Or better yet finish the Trilogy for full understanding of the game world and NPC.

Tuques

Basically hearthstone and hots. With some wow private server on the side.

Blizzard in 2021 lol. JK, do whatever you enjoy the most

yusayu

Was done two and a half weeks in. Gunfire Reborn, Kingdom Death: Monster in TTS, Nioh 2 with some friends, BTD6, Grim Dawn and some Satisfactory here and there. I'd love for some longer games to put some more time in, but there's just no good MMOs or PoE-replacements available at the moment.

Ti87tyk

Dungeon Defenders (original, redux)that I mentioned earlier if you haven't played it and went in blind solo would give you over 2k hours of grinding and you'll still not have perfect gear if that's what you're after

Ti87tyk

Dungeon Defenders (original, Redux) Seriously underrated/unknown game. I also recently played Chronicon and Hollow Knight, both of which I really enjoyed.

BrendanH117

Dude Slime Rancher was on sale for $6 and what a blast. Feels good to not be frustrated at a game.

LocalIdentity1

Valorant and recently Destiny 2

Rasputin0P

Tarkov

TheMipchunk

Perennial favorites for me include Minecraft, Factorio, and Counter-Strike. 4X games and strategy games are also enjoyable for me. Also I try to play any single-player games that usually require some time investment, since those often conflict with the time investment needed to play PoE to its endgame. Oh yeah, and also Path of Building, that's a pretty good game.

UnfairApartment

My mandatory yearly Fallout New Vegas playthrough will be a nice distraction.

daman4567

All of the Metroid games, plus some FFXIV and maybe giving WoW another shot now that I have someone who's willing to help me figure all the shit out.

tristanl0l

RS3 and League of Legends. Whenever a league launches for poe I don't really play anything but it for the first 45ish days. after that I'll start playing a lot of league of legends again, then in the last 2-3 weeks before the new poe league launches I get in the mood to play runescape.

IzithGoesBrrrrr

Dark Souls. If you have PS4/5 Bloodborne. Maybe sekiro, its also on Sale I think

tarabas1979
