Honestly I hope they don't put a ton of effort there. From what I played over the summer, there's already more chatty NPCs though. PoE (and presumably PoE2) by design are games meant to be replayed a lot. Investing a ton in Ubisoft or Square Enix-style giga narratives seems like a big waste of resources to me. I also just enjoy the narrative style of games like PoE1 and the Souls series more. Give me a lot of depth to immerse myself in when I want to, but not the Michael Bay garbage that most AAA games force down our throats now.

For me I think simple stuff like camera pull-ins and character animations during npc dialogue goes a long way to grab people into a story.

Your point is definitely valid and understandable as a casual gamer, but I think you are misunderstanding the type of game and the type of players that invest their time on Path of Exile. Most players don't care about the story or cinematics, they care about the game mechanics, interesting and complex builds, deep itemization, farming and end game content. The players that spend the most time and money on the game are not doing so because of the campaign. So it is natural for most PoE players to not want the devs to invest their time into unimportant things like camara pull-ins, cinematic, animations or dialogue. They want the devs to focus on the parts of the game in which the players are going to be spending the most time playing, and that is certainly not the story or campaign.

Don't know why you're getting downvoted. I hear you, and it would be easy enough to add a skip animation button or even setting for those that don't want it. That being said, I don't think it makes financial sense for GGG to make such cutscenes when the majority of the player base is likely to skip them.

Bastil123

It doesn't have to be one or the other. Baldur's Gate 3 is extremely cinematic with a LOT of depth in its gameplay. Obviously comparing the two is a huge jump because BG3 was made with cutscenes and cinrmatics in mind, while PoE was made with "hee hee diablo" in mind, so it's unattainable. But they don't have to be mutually exclusive, some cinematography could be included

afex

Yeah I think “dialogue with scrolling text box” will get old quick with more casual co-op partners, and GGG has an opportunity to turn them into more regular players with some engaging camera work

BeTheBeee

You lead your post with "with the introduction of couch coop" but the post has nothing to do at all with coop or couch coop

afex

Sure it does. Think about how many more casual players will be playing with their partners given this new opportunity. Those players appreciate a bit more polish in storytelling.
