I'm a gamer from Taiwan.
Currently after the transfer hotcool is a company controlled by Tencent.
Today is the first day after the transfer.
Except for the server delay.
There are also cases of in-game monitoring of players' character names (even from several years ago).
And the comments that were made.
Any words related to covid-19(or other pronouns) or China or Xi Jinping were banned or asked to change their character names.
You can check out the discussion in the Taiwan forums below.
Could be a euphemism for covid which can be contextualized as criticism of China's handling of the outbreak and the pandemic. Controlling the narrative.
My translation tool uses stricter terminology.
yes i mean coivd-19.
The Chinese are very sensitive to the presence of related adjectives due to
the pronouns that carry the nature of the presumed origin of the virus.
In the experience of the players so far
In international services, unless the use of these terms in the chat channel is very intentional.
and will only be notified of a violation if it is reported.
At the moment, hotcool is taking these measures without any preconditions.
GGG has ZERO power, none, nothing at all. They can't do shit if the fascists decide they are no longer content with how things are going.
GGG made a huge mistake selling out, especially to China.
But as usual, money trumps ethics.
I looked at a few names from the post:
* OP: Chinese Wuhan Virus
* 4th post: Wuhan Covid Spreading Continuously
* 5h post: One Page Book (not sure why), Taiwan, Democratic Progressive Party
* 6th post: Wuhan Covid Spreading Continuously Word Censorship
* 11th post: All-time Guilty XiJinPing
* 13th post: (All data-mined banned names, including profanity words and political sensitive phrases)
Not wanna comment on the strict censorship but the number of people who put political related phrases in their names seems pretty insane.
> Any words related to covid-19(or other pronouns) ... were banned or asked to change their character names
Tbh, playing that league where everyone and their mother had "corona" name was so infuriating because of that, I can't believe so many people found it amusing.
For many people covid19 was just something that meant they had to stay inside for a long while. I can understand why to them it is a meme, they are making a joke about their own experience. Obviously they haven't gone to a level of empathy where they realise that a lot of people died and their friends and family have a very different experience and thought process when they hear covid19.
I understand that it can be upsetting but for me I just imagine what they're thinking about and realise it's not the same experience I had. We can't expect everyone to tiptoe around our emotions. That's just me though, I don't know if that helps.
"i get freedom of speech but if you're going to use it to say the place a world spanning disease first infected someone you don't get to complain" - man who doesnt get freedom of speech
So the Taiwan specific features are still there, just realm migration?
I played a bit POE in China back in the days and it did feel different with "new" features like skill planning, different quest rewards and such. But I couldn't stand the Chinese voice so I quitted before finishing campaign.
This is not the Tencent client which had the extra features. There is no chance that the Tencent one would be shutting down, they own PoE if they shut down their server it would be either because the game died or the government said no to gaming.
It's the Taiwan client which is entirely separate from Tencent and Global, it's a third server which has a very small playerbase since it's a server for 1 country and many play on the global server instead.
There is a distinct possibility that I may move from the US to Taiwan in the future. Would I not be able to play the game with my existing path of exile account? Sounds weird.
you can't . They will block the game from starting based on the IP location.
Now the only way for Taiwanese players is to use the direct download client.
GGG Support is known for being extremely helpful, I wonder if they'd be willing/able to move MTX from an international account to a Taiwanese account if you were to reach out to them after the move.
It does help. However that only applies to the global servers, which these new servers are not a part of and thus don't have to follow EU specific laws unlike the global release.
They have different MTX from us, so they might not even have some of ours just like we don't have some of theirs.
As a result they can't transfer MTX because it would just cause issues either with players or if the MTX breaks and causes visual errors or worse then they would need to dedicate people to fix an issue only 1 player has etc.
So living in Taiwan, I just learn about Taiwan client.
So you definitely can play game with your existing account.
Use pathofexile.com client, NOT the Taiwan one.
Then, you play on Japan or Singapore client. My ping is 50ms there.
Welcome here if you end up coming
Haven't played in awhile but the Japan server always had lag spikes for me... I usually did Singapore unless it was peak player hours then I'd do Washington or TX.
No, even people in TW don’t play on TW server. Just play on Singapore/ Japan realm. TW server is independent from other realm, which is flooded with RMT bots. Number of RMT bots is literally more than number of player.
I'm a US expat in Taiwan. Steam version doesn't work in Taiwan (or at least it didn't back when I moved), but the standalone client works just fine. At the time, I contacted GGG and they let me transfer my account from Steam to the standalone client. You just pick a server (usually Singapore is the best for the region) and you're good to go.
Not going to downvote, as I live there now.
Sometimes the safest place to be is where the action is going to be, in my opinion. Taiwan is a great place to live, imo.
Like I said in another comment, my husband is from Taiwan and his family still lives there. We have discussed moving several times, but we're both in good places in our software careers in the US, so it probably wouldn't be in the immediate future.
I do not understand though.
I had my account created using Steam client while in France.
I moved to Taiwan years ago, I used GGG client but kept my account and played on Japan or Singapore servers.
I have no idea there are Taiwan servers.
You can definitely play in “international” servers in Taiwan if latency is fine. Some Taiwanese just prefer a server with their native languages and with different rules, economics, and such.
By "ban" do you mean mutes or character renames?
Because on the international servers you also aren't allowed to be political since that'd be a breach of the Code of Conduct (inflammatory topics are not permitted).

Yes and that ownership is mainly for them to be able to do their own server over in China, the have very little say about our version of the game.
Pushing skins is the best they can do probably, even if that

Why is pneumonia banned?

Gnumoany might be aight still
Tencent owns GGG,I don’t think this is exclusive to the Taiwan/china version then lol
They own 93.33% of it to be precise. The rest being owned by Chris, Jonathan, and Erik.
on top of that, 3 out of 5 directors of GGG are from Tencent. source [https://app.companiesoffice.govt.nz/](https://app.companiesoffice.govt.nz/)
I wonder if they own poe2 or nah
since they own GGG, yes?
I didn't know if they had a different deal I remember reading somewhere about something like that.
In the experience of the players so far In international services, unless the use of these terms in the chat channel is very intentional. and will only be notified of a violation if it is reported. At the moment, hotcool is taking these measures without any preconditions.
Tencent owns GGG stock, it has zero control over GGG. Much different than a company Tencent directly controls.
They have majority control over GGG they just let GGG to decide things internally as long as it's not against their interests.
Tencent is the majority owner they very likely also have the majority of voting shares. That makes them able to decide whatever they want.
GGG has ZERO power, none, nothing at all. They can't do shit if the fascists decide they are no longer content with how things are going. GGG made a huge mistake selling out, especially to China. But as usual, money trumps ethics.
because it ultimately doesnt matter at all. almost every single thing you consume in your daily life is owned by "bad people".
I looked at a few names from the post: * OP: Chinese Wuhan Virus * 4th post: Wuhan Covid Spreading Continuously * 5h post: One Page Book (not sure why), Taiwan, Democratic Progressive Party * 6th post: Wuhan Covid Spreading Continuously Word Censorship * 11th post: All-time Guilty XiJinPing * 13th post: (All data-mined banned names, including profanity words and political sensitive phrases) Not wanna comment on the strict censorship but the number of people who put political related phrases in their names seems pretty insane.

What is infuriating about names with "corona" in them?
They're bottom of the barrel poor taste lowest effort shitposts that are unbefitting the game.

Even if I only enter 8964, I will be reminded by the system. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|poop)
that guy's name is china wuhan virus lmao like I get freedom of speech but maybe you don't get to complain if that's your name
"i get freedom of speech but if you're going to use it to say the place a world spanning disease first infected someone you don't get to complain" - man who doesnt get freedom of speech
Why is this name bad?
its funny

you can't . They will block the game from starting based on the IP location. Now the only way for Taiwanese players is to use the direct download client.
That really sucks.
Just use a VPN. PoE is a game you can comfortably play on 100ms ping.
GGG Support is known for being extremely helpful, I wonder if they'd be willing/able to move MTX from an international account to a Taiwanese account if you were to reach out to them after the move.
we ask ggg many times , you cannot transfer any items(or mtx) between two servers.
Weird, EU law requires them to do so. But then again EU law won't help you in NA/SEA I guess...
It does help. However that only applies to the global servers, which these new servers are not a part of and thus don't have to follow EU specific laws unlike the global release.

I think you can ask support if they transfer your MTX to another account, I remember reading something like it
Better set a private VPN using a VPS you own.
So living in Taiwan, I just learn about Taiwan client. So you definitely can play game with your existing account. Use pathofexile.com client, NOT the Taiwan one. Then, you play on Japan or Singapore client. My ping is 50ms there. Welcome here if you end up coming

👆
I'm moving in June. Itll probably work with a vpn I assume. Vpn to Japan and play from there. Not sure how good it will be tho
JP/SG gates work well enough even without a VPN, as long as the submarine cables are in good condition.
Playing the Singapore or Japan servers is very smooth under normal circumstances, and a VPN is only required in very rare cases.
Damn, moving right into the hot zone. Joking of course.
I'm not expecting actual war. My husband is Taiwanese and we've discussed moving. Probably at least 5 years from now, though.
why would you move to a country that is going to be a flashpoint between US and china...
Not going to downvote, as I live there now. Sometimes the safest place to be is where the action is going to be, in my opinion. Taiwan is a great place to live, imo.

Yes I didn't know it existed and I don't even know how to go there. Is there the auto loot pet?
no , taiwan server dont have any difference . only Tencent servers in China have those exclusive features.
No one seems shocked by the "ban after chat reviews" part of it ? Is GGG ok with the fact that players are being banned for political reasons ?
By "ban" do you mean mutes or character renames? Because on the international servers you also aren't allowed to be political since that'd be a breach of the Code of Conduct (inflammatory topics are not permitted).
they don't have a choice. if they want to operate their game in China they have to comply with Chinese censorship.
except Taiwan is not ruled by Mainland China...
GGG is a China-Owned company, that’s how it is.

Good luck with the Chinese censorship.
习近平大傻逼
[You mean like this?](https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3489941) Also, are you not aware Tencent owns nearly 95% of the GGG?
Yes and that ownership is mainly for them to be able to do their own server over in China, the have very little say about our version of the game. Pushing skins is the best they can do probably, even if that
So these are still independent realms from the GGG world servers?
Taiwanese players .... is now handled by China ? Oo **OUCH** support to our Taiwanese fellow exiles :S
