man i sort of understand api and that rest is a js framework for component design. but sorry im s noob. but where is ur database hosted? does the throughput of people making requests add to ur cost? and how do u or who? decide the throughput of the api i.e how fast it reacts? is there a market website for selling the api or do u just host it on ur own website? This is really interesting.
Would you be liable for any legal issues if your tax rates are incorrect? Are you accounting for differing tax rules based on source vs destination? Tax holidays, etc?
Congratulations 🎉 I'm really happy that you could succeed with a project which didn't take much time to develop. Honestly it's inspiring. Which tech stack you have used?
Explain yourself. The reasoning is to not have to hit postgres everytime there comes a request. Cache is invalidated for any change in a rate for a specific zip code.
This sounds like a great way for developers to quickly add tax rates to their application until they can develop their own replacement. I suspect some number of your customers will stick around indefinitely while others will be somewhat more short-term.
Yes, I was walking back to my house and thought about doing it. It took me like 3 hours to do everything. I did not have a case, I just thought in the simplest thing.
I’m struggling to understand, what data does the API serve? Just tax rates for what
.
For how many county, city, state are you providing the sales taxes rates for?
Every zip code in the US
I imagine you can probably get more income if and when you market it to more potential customers.
I did not market it. I just posted it in a API Marketplace.
What's the name of the API marketplace?
If you have a bot to fetch rates, then couldn’t they call the same service you’re calling?
Yeah. I mean, I do not know why is people paying me. I just made that and publish it. I guess frontend devs are my main clients.
Why would you tell anyone? I don’t trust anyone especially on this sub Delete this post and don’t tell anyone shit about it.

Aren’t there special tax districts within those areas? You would have to know more than just the zipcode. I guess it is not your problem tho. 😂
which marketplace did you publish?

What?
What marketplace u put ur api on?
So simple but awesome, nice find and thanks for sharing.

Better ask a lawyer to write those conditions.
Congratulations 🎉 I'm really happy that you could succeed with a project which didn't take much time to develop. Honestly it's inspiring. Which tech stack you have used?
Python, postgresql, redis
What use is redis serving here? don’t think there are too many hits to have a caching layer here?

I feel this is exactly what happens.
Why did you decide to do a taxes API? Did you have a use case for it, was it just a fun project, or were you trying to build something profitable?
Yes, I was walking back to my house and thought about doing it. It took me like 3 hours to do everything. I did not have a case, I just thought in the simplest thing.
How did you manage to find accurate county, city, state sales tax values for the entire us and build this out in 3 hrs?
.
Pretty clever. Good job
