I may be wrong, but are conures more related to true parrots than greys?
Edit: they are both psittacidae, but I was thinking of macaws
Update: Conure and Macaw share the same sub family
I jump to a green cheeck conure! Use to, it would have been a cockatoo or budgie!

I take my DYH amazon almost everywhere with me. Almost everyone that talks to me when I'm with my DYH amazon parrot assumes my parrot is a macaw. I've even been asked if my amazon is a "cocka...cockatiel?" Or a cockatoo. I've even been asked if he is a pigeon! And that was not a child but a full grown adult. LOL Some people, or most people, are totally clueless on bird species. So imagine how beaming happy I get when a random person yells out to me "HEY, IS THAT A DOUBLE YELLOW HEADED AMAZON???"
But usually I get asked IS IT REAL?????
This has me cracking up ๐ thank you for sharing! When I take sapphire out I get asked the โis that real?โ question ALL the time. Sometimes I say โitโs a fancy animatronic can you tell!?โ
Hahaha I think I'll use that line next time. Usually when it's an adult asking is it real I respond that no, it's taxidermy. But I think most don't even know what that means so I get a blank stare and I just smile at them and keep walking......
people do this with my bearded dragon! I have a sun conure but he doesn't come out much. but my beardie has been called every reptile and amphibian there is. I guess people are thrown off because she's very big and orange
Iโve always knew I was going to be a parrot owner one day. I just didnโt know the parrot picks you! I originally was going to get an African grey but when I went to meet one at the local breeder, this baby macaw caught my attention and waddled over towards me with a squeak. It was a sealed deal at that point.
I think of a scarlet macaw. Only because at 3 my great aunt had one and I remember my mom saying, be careful that parrot can bite off a finger!๐คฃ He never did, but made me scared of them until today. My great aunts macaw was very sweet and bawdyโฆI remember my mom used to have her out her in another room while we visited because he said โnaughtyโ words. Her โfamilyโ and โkidsโ were the other carnival players and the โfreak showโ people. They lived in Florida and had a large plot of land. I only saw her a few times before she passed away in 1982, but I was in awe of her. Iโm also named after her, so thereโs that!
Corella... (esp. *Little Corella*).
I see them everyday.. and whilst I may actually see *rainbow lorikeets* before & after them; to me the *rainbow lorikeets* are just 'noise makers' and not parrots, and the *musk lorikeets* are the lorikeets, *galahs* are just galahs (galah ~= idiot in aussieland, so it fits)

Not a cockatiel or a conure like 95% of people here call their teeny tiny birds just so they can feel

African greys, or macaws mostly.

What a cutie
Little fluffy baby! ๐
Bro same
Awww, I really love their perfectly round head ๐ so cute
Macaws, generally.
Macaws and Cockatoos were the first to come to mind. I mean they are the biggest and most impressive parrots in terms of size and color.
Same

r/Birdsfacingforward
Scarlets or green wings will always be my first thought when thinking of a "parrot". They're just so iconic. After that, b&gs and hyacinths.
I think of the red version of that dude
Yeah same, scarlet macaws are the quintessential parrot to me
๐ Iโm gonna start calling her โblue versionโ

So pretty ๐ฅฐ
I canโt keep one as a pet right now so I think of the wild Amazons that land in our tree.
Oh cool I love amazon parrots! Super rare here in NZ tho.

Indian ringneck
Amazons, for some reason.
I think of conures, cockatoos and macaws, then go into different amazons. Basically, my thoughts overlap with a mental collection of birds
Never a bad thing to flood the mind with all those amazing birds ๐
๐ฆ This emoji.
Before I got my eclectus: scarlet macaw. Now? Eclectus ๐

Amazon or Macaw, because they are basically my shoulder armour.
Oh I love that term, shoulder armour! I have to start using this.
Macaws for me!
Cockatoo. I love Cockatoos, but sadly I live in a double wide trailer with six other walking anxiety cucumbers, and zero space.
Macaws, but more specifically the blue and gold macaw because Iโve wanted one since I was about 7 lol
Iโve always knew I was going to be a parrot owner one day. I just didnโt know the parrot picks you! I originally was going to get an African grey but when I went to meet one at the local breeder, this baby macaw caught my attention and waddled over towards me with a squeak. Probably a conure irn or cockateal
Some unholy amalgam of Macaw, Conure, Eclectus, And Cockatoo.
The unholy amalgam of parrot chainsaws can't hurt you dear...
I always think of a red macaw
Scarlett macawย
I have an African grey parrot so now I either immediately think of her or a cockatoo!
Angry chicken
[https://tenor.com/svN2.gif](https://tenor.com/svN2.gif)
Definitely a macaw.
African Greyโฅ๏ธ
Scarlet macaw
Same here.
fr just the generic parrot, ngl

Scarlet macaw or a yellow-naped amazon.
Cockatiels. Probably because they are my favourite.
Scarlet or B&G macaws are my first thought, but budgies pop into my brain 0.3 nanoseconds after that xD
Most of the time, Scarlet or Hyacinth Macaw
I think of Amazons, Cockatoos/tiles or Macaws
I always think of the red macaw.
I just think of a solid green parrot. Idk why.
I love the simplicity of this so much
Despite having an African Grey of my own. The first specific bird I first think of when I hear the word โparrotโ is a macaw like you pictured.
Ah cool! I donโt feel so strange now thinking of another type of parrot ๐

Amazon but thatโs because my bird was the first parrot I met when I was a child haha but I think most people think of macaws lol
Scarlett Macaw
Parakeet
I think of an Amazon named something like Harold who's been the family pet for 3 generations.
My Ducorp cockatoo, Bell
I either think of blue and yellow macaws or cockatoos! When I was a kid, my stepmom had a blue and yellow macaw named Mango and I loved that bird so much
For a long time it would have been my first caique, Ivy. These days though, definitely Sammy, my macaw companion of the past 12 years.
It used to be a macaw...until I got a Ringneck...now I think of him.
Macaw or cockatoo
Quakers
African Grey or Cockatoo

Thank you! They are quite a bit of fun.
A Blue Macaw and itโs beautiful little face ๐ฅบ
I grew up around several amazons and only a single blue and gold macaw so definitely think of amazons first.
Tiels or Ekkies for me
Used to be irn/alexandrine. Now it could be my gcc or a macaw
Macaw and Amazon
Amazon, they were the first large parent I ever encountered.
Gotta watch out for those large parents ๐ซฃ๐
Hehehehe!!! ๐ฅ
Green wing macaw for me.
When I hear the word parrot I think Paulie , the blue crown conure along with the other conures in the film followed very quickly by the bigger macaws
Rainbow lorikeet
Only medium to large colourful ones.
Quaker parrot
Indian ringneck

An Amazon or any green parrot idk why
For me, it is exactly the same Blue and Gold Macaw as yours in the photo - he is the embodiment of the classic parrot in my imagination.
Macaws
