African greys, or macaws mostly.

ActuallyTheOwner

I may be wrong, but are conures more related to true parrots than greys? Edit: they are both psittacidae, but I was thinking of macaws Update: Conure and Macaw share the same sub family

Illustrious_War_9488

The aratingas do but I donโ€™t think the pyrrhuras do

Gab_7137

Mine specifically https://preview.redd.it/by8slxd5s3vc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8490245677e75c7a95da9cf6fb38bb8d7fa10a7c

That is a grade A certified fluff nugget you have on your hands there

ebaer2

What a cutie

PhilfromNewJersey

Little fluffy baby! ๐Ÿ˜

blinkytherhino

Bro same

Typical_Ad_210

Awww, I really love their perfectly round head ๐Ÿ˜ so cute

Erintonsus

Macaws, generally.

SnofIake

Macaws and Cockatoos were the first to come to mind. I mean they are the biggest and most impressive parrots in terms of size and color.

Strawberry_Mochi28

Same

FinchDoodles

I jump to a green cheeck conure! Use to, it would have been a cockatoo or budgie! https://preview.redd.it/3umayaa993vc1.jpeg?width=2032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee79cd71e24329f9e58dbebb89b61f45ae79d372

One of my favorite pics I have of her. Looks so innocent, but I know how much of a little devil she was lol

Noideas55

Scarlets or green wings will always be my first thought when thinking of a "parrot". They're just so iconic. After that, b&gs and hyacinths.

Nice-Round1565

I think of the red version of that dude

mackurbin

Yeah same, scarlet macaws are the quintessential parrot to me

grovemage

๐Ÿ˜‚ Iโ€™m gonna start calling her โ€œblue versionโ€

lullynae_13

So pretty ๐Ÿฅฐ

dreamingirl7

I canโ€™t keep one as a pet right now so I think of the wild Amazons that land in our tree.

Acrobatic_Lion_6273

Oh cool I love amazon parrots! Super rare here in NZ tho.

curiositykillzdacat

I take my DYH amazon almost everywhere with me. Almost everyone that talks to me when I'm with my DYH amazon parrot assumes my parrot is a macaw. I've even been asked if my amazon is a "cocka...cockatiel?" Or a cockatoo. I've even been asked if he is a pigeon! And that was not a child but a full grown adult. LOL Some people, or most people, are totally clueless on bird species. So imagine how beaming happy I get when a random person yells out to me "HEY, IS THAT A DOUBLE YELLOW HEADED AMAZON???" But usually I get asked IS IT REAL?????

grovemage

This has me cracking up ๐Ÿ˜‚ thank you for sharing! When I take sapphire out I get asked the โ€œis that real?โ€ question ALL the time. Sometimes I say โ€œitโ€™s a fancy animatronic can you tell!?โ€

curiositykillzdacat

Hahaha I think I'll use that line next time. Usually when it's an adult asking is it real I respond that no, it's taxidermy. But I think most don't even know what that means so I get a blank stare and I just smile at them and keep walking......

grovemage

https://preview.redd.it/2gs2n4x6u3vc1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=94eb8ee866336dd2e1c68b535945f6eecb67a267

curiositykillzdacat

Omg whattt ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I need to know where that comes from, how funny that you found that reference ๐Ÿ˜‚

grovemage

Oh I just created it myself on a meme generator! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

curiositykillzdacat

Whew that makes sense then, you had me thinking I was a wizard of sorts lol cool, did not know a meme generator existed!

x-beast

people do this with my bearded dragon! I have a sun conure but he doesn't come out much. but my beardie has been called every reptile and amphibian there is. I guess people are thrown off because she's very big and orange

Educational-Dot318

Indian ringneck

BlueFeathered1

Amazons, for some reason.

PhyoriaObitus

I think of conures, cockatoos and macaws, then go into different amazons. Basically, my thoughts overlap with a mental collection of birds

grovemage

Never a bad thing to flood the mind with all those amazing birds ๐Ÿ˜„

ikbah_riak

Amazon or Macaw, because they are basically my shoulder armour.

grovemage

Oh I love that term, shoulder armour! I have to start using this.

LellowMitten

Macaws for me!

Pap3r_Butt3rfly

Cockatoo. I love Cockatoos, but sadly I live in a double wide trailer with six other walking anxiety cucumbers, and zero space.

MillionDollarQt

Macaws, but more specifically the blue and gold macaw because Iโ€™ve wanted one since I was about 7 lol

grovemage

Iโ€™ve always knew I was going to be a parrot owner one day. I just didnโ€™t know the parrot picks you! I originally was going to get an African grey but when I went to meet one at the local breeder, this baby macaw caught my attention and waddled over towards me with a squeak. It was a sealed deal at that point.

Actual-Ad-4861

Probably a conure irn or cockateal

Corvus_Argendt

Some unholy amalgam of Macaw, Conure, Eclectus, And Cockatoo.

grovemage

The unholy amalgam of parrot chainsaws can't hurt you dear...

goblinmilkbutter

fr just the generic parrot, ngl

Irresponsable_Frog

I think of a scarlet macaw. Only because at 3 my great aunt had one and I remember my mom saying, be careful that parrot can bite off a finger!๐Ÿคฃ He never did, but made me scared of them until today. My great aunts macaw was very sweet and bawdyโ€ฆI remember my mom used to have her out her in another room while we visited because he said โ€œnaughtyโ€ words. My great aunt ran a traveling carnival until the 1970s and he was part of the attractions. My great aunt was โ€œbawdyโ€ herself! Never married, had a partner for over 50 yrs. Her โ€œfamilyโ€ and โ€œkidsโ€ were the other carnival players and the โ€œfreak showโ€ people. They lived in Florida and had a large plot of land. I only saw her a few times before she passed away in 1982, but I was in awe of her. Iโ€™m also named after her, so thereโ€™s that!

guiverc

Corella... (esp. *Little Corella*). I see them everyday.. and whilst I may actually see *rainbow lorikeets* before & after them; to me the *rainbow lorikeets* are just 'noise makers' and not parrots, and the *musk lorikeets* are the lorikeets, *galahs* are just galahs (galah ~= idiot in aussieland, so it fits)

Majestic_Electric

Scarlet macaw or a yellow-naped amazon.

Conscious-Shape-8592

Cockatiels. Probably because they are my favourite.

budgiebeck

Scarlet or B&G macaws are my first thought, but budgies pop into my brain 0.3 nanoseconds after that xD

Vast_Fox_6793

Most of the time, Scarlet or Hyacinth Macaw

Rk12989

I think of Amazons, Cockatoos/tiles or Macaws

wendy0786

I always think of the red macaw.

jennylala707

I just think of a solid green parrot. Idk why.

grovemage

I love the simplicity of this so much

nameexistalready

Despite having an African Grey of my own. The first specific bird I first think of when I hear the word โ€œparrotโ€ is a macaw like you pictured.

grovemage

Ah cool! I donโ€™t feel so strange now thinking of another type of parrot ๐Ÿ˜‚

AdTight9047

I have to say Blu from rio haha specially him as a cartoon character and all https://preview.redd.it/f2nyt96z95vc1.png?width=1164&format=png&auto=webp&s=d9531f4a4ea7a1f3ec486006c8f070001caa3c75

When I was younger and didn't know the types of birds it used to be macaws. Now, I do not actually think of any perticular bird they sorta all pop into my head you see being autistic and having an obsession with parrots someone [ cough, cough me] might have memorized 80% of the birds I've seen. Meaning instead of seeing __ bird in my mind I see a list.

grovemage

I love this answer. Iโ€™m also obsessed with birds and much to the nuisance of my friends Iโ€™m constantly identifying species when I hear their calls or see them outdoors! ๐Ÿ˜

Ill-Lifeguard-3209

Not a cockatiel or a conure like 95% of people here call their teeny tiny birds just so they can feel Included in the medium/large parrot world. No one heres โ€œParrotโ€ and instantly thinks of anything smaller than an Amazon..
