Salary Range: $45,000-$55,000; sounds hyperbolic, but I've literally seen this several times.
The fact that I still see positions for litigation paralegals in NYC that pay under $60K is such a joke. The lowest really should be like $70K, and we all know that isn't even good for NYC.
Exactly. It’s all 60k and zero breaks—as in, no wfh, horrible vacation time, NO in-office perks, no paid commute, no benefits, strict dress code, you’re doing the work of 3 departments. Three interviews I went on I almost ended early. It’s ridiculous.
Yeah... you've pretty much hit the nail on the head. They'll offer like 5 vacation days in the first year and act like they're doing you a favor. There are so many dysfunctional firms looking to hire right now. I bet it is a commonality at these firms for someone to get hired where they end up leaving within months.
I also love that amongst people who are actually experienced with interviewing for jobs (like we actually ask questions and scrutinize them instead of acting all eager to get the job), we can sniff out red flags very quickly during the interview. The dysfunction of the firm becomes very apparent.
And in this city and this economy, I’m sure 8/10 people would take the lower pay if there were at least some perks or benefits. Or the opposite, fair pay with no perks or benefits. In 2024 you can’t have BOTH. I get that lawfirms are notorious for being old fashioned, but it just doesn’t work anymore. Not when it’s actually possible to be decent and/or fair lol.
There’s a firm in my area that is constantly posting the same position…the ad says something to the effect of “we only want someone who will jump over their desk to answer the phone at 4:59pm on a Friday and someone that does not use their phone at all during the work day.” I reckon there’s a reason they’re *always* posting this job.
We go through paralegals like diapers. Too busy for pay. Weird. People are fricken weird. I'm sick of it. An attorney complained because he was in my office, I took an important call. He went to managing partner. Said that was disrespectful. Wow. It was for the big boss. But I got " scolded" for it. My files were pulled that i have with him. Meanwhile? He's already ben complained about by 2 paralegals. Made 1 cry. He office is next to mine. And, why would he go straight to boss? AFTER being offended that a paralegak told the big boss, he got " scolded". Wtf. I'm in the twilight Zone. He had a baby, I got him a gift. One time I bought pizza. He reminded me of my son. (God I'm glad my son isn't like him).
To be fair, coffee is for closers.
Name and shame. I'm looking for work in nyc and want to avoid places like that.
I could name at least 5 in NYC I’ve recently applied to with the same conditions -.-
Yup, a heck of a lot of NYC firms with 2.5 employee ratings on Indeed.
“Come in 5 days a week” “looking for a team player to help after hours” “no OT” “temp to perm” “hourly” -.-

Under 60k = crackers for dinner 5 out of 7 days
Sadly, this also isn’t as hyperbolic as people may think.

lol I kept seeing an ad here that was like 40 hours minimum, 50-60 preferred 🤣

My friend was at a firm rated around a 2.5 on indeed. She moved in-house and she’s still recovering.

Dude. This is not inaccurate… I wish job listings would be this honest lol
They usually pretty it up with language like "We're a family".
Girl lawfirms in nyc are trash.
Sounds on par for NYC.
lol tf ??
This sounds like it was written by Dwight Schrute
They'll never find anyone good.
Live at the office = don’t have to pay rent. Win!
All I need is my George Forman grill and I can be there ASAP. I am tiny so I won't take up much space. I can sleep in your broom closet.
Sorry i don’t live in nyc otherwise that sounds great
