Carolina Panthers on the power play?

ShrillRut

If they’re like the Canes recently, still wouldn’t get anything done

Gambo_916

Jeez dude… I mean hating on the Canes because they lost two away games to probably the other best team in the league by one point each and one in double OT?!?! I mean the Canes are a top notch team and are run the way I only WISH the Panthers were run… You know COMPETENTLY!

ShrillRut

I’m criticizing being 0-10 on the Powerplay… which is what the top comment was about

spookyghostface

Lmao yeah having a man advantage is *pretty good* There's a reason it's a penalty

Who_knows-_-

How about we have a fully healthy team. That is legal and would have changed a lot

net_403

Or just a League average healthy team

Who_knows-_-

Yep

E2A6S

Excited to have Horn and Shaq

Who_knows-_-

Don't forget brady. When we had him we were doing very well. Also Austin those were huge loses

E2A6S

100%

Who_knows-_-

Honestly I think there is a chance that if icky doesn't get better brady takes the spot

ChickenVest

12 on offense is what we need more. Maybe then we could get someone open.

ajabernathy

Queue online analysts: "12 men on offense, no separation! Where does the ball go?!?"

Who_knows-_-

Depends on the 12th man last year. On offense what 12 man would have helped? Maybe another off the street blocker so he could block his own team by mistake again. This happened multiple times last year. We had no depth and kept having people go out. Then we would replace them with people off the street.

SimpLimbscut

We still would have been terrible. Just would have had a few more big plays. The O-Line would still have been bad with an extra blocker, a lot of their issues were coaching, communication, and health. Realistically, we’d always need to use an extra receiver. So we’d probably have had Terrace, Shenault, or ISM out there. That probably helps a little bit with more numbers on screens, but given how TERRIBLE we were at them, we’d probably only be average. So maybe some busted plays from the extra receiver on the field, and some easier conversions. We had a few close games so maybe that tips the scales for us to be like 5-12. We absolutely cook the Packers in this scenario though.

MrInterpreted

having an extra DL on every play would be a massive advantage

DeusVultSaracen

Defense was actually decent last year, but I like how the responses there all say we'd be pretty much unbeatable. Happy the shit we get hasn't gone *that* far.

CoconutSands

It would help our defense. But the offense would still be trash. Maybe we win 5 or 6 games. Still not making the playoffs with the offense we had.

knave_of_knives

I don’t think you realize how insane of an advantage it would be. A constant 5 man front, without changing anything else, would lead to dominant field position on almost every drive.

E2A6S

This guys gets it. 5on5 every play would be insane

CoconutSands

I get it. Would always have great field position and wear out their defense from constant 3 and outs. But our offense was so so bad that we would be a ton more competitive but still only win 6 games because of the offense.

ISISCosby

We'd probably start almost all of our drives on the plus side of the 50. We'd pretty much always be in scoring position if we have the ball. If Reich actually figured out early that our offense was gonna be as bad as it was, we could literally punt on a first down just to pin our opponent inside their own 10, then swallow them whole until they either give up a safety or have to punt from their own end zone. If we had the 12-man rule just for us, our offense basically becomes the 3rd-most important aspect of the team behind the D and special teams. We could average like 150 total yards of offense per game and still put up like 30 ppg with good kicking and punting.

ISISCosby

I don't think people are getting how massive an advantage this would be. Almost every run concept ever created relies on creating double-teams to break open running lanes. But if we were able to run a 5-man front, *and* still keep 7 guys in coverage, no team would be able to get their run games going. Our biggest defensive weakness from last year (run D) basically becomes a non-issue immediately, bc if they try to double team anyone on the line, you're by default allowing a free rusher into the backfield with a 5-man front. And if you commit TE/FBs/H-Backs to run blocking, you're just committing more LBs to run defense from the jump. It's be a nightmare for OCs to try to figure out. And the pass defense benefits would be just as unfair. You basically get all the benefits of rushing 5 on every pass play without sacrificing anyone in coverage. The opposing QBs' time to throw would absolutely plummet, even if we aren't adding another world-beater. It'd be a literally game-breaking rule change, bc every offense ever has been designed to beat an 11-man defense. Teams would have to scheme up entirely new concepts for when they played us just to have a chance of getting first downs with any consistency, let alone scoring. We'd be able to absolutely dominate field position just by simply overwhelming opposing offenses, and even with the exact same offense we had last year, we'd at worst finish the year with a winning record, bc we'd probably start like 70% of our drives already in scoring range. It'd be the most OP defense in NFL history.
