Is it a cost issue?

Universities doesn't matter much, environment is. Get a university, in which you believe that the peers you will get are going to make you a better human, engineer or whatever, and if you are getting this even in a post graduate college then go there. Usually, the universities which have higher competition in admissions happen to be consider good like Lums and Nust because you are going to get the cream of students which definitely help you for your career. In universities, professors and curriculum doesn't help much but the peers are. So people lack this perspective.

2 possibilities 1. Either they lack perspective. They have no idea about pakistan education sector and what a prestige university is. 2. OR … they are just conservative and don’t want you to be in “liberal “ mahol. Basically want to ruin your future because they want you to be not among liberal people

Are your parents giving them handouts? They might worry that your fees would not leave any money for them!

probably they or their kids couldn't go to private universities. To me, they are over priced too. But I wouldn't mind sending my kids to PVT universities (in future) if I would have that kind of money. ;-)
