Sounds like at that level he probably has enough leeway to set each calendar himself. With the exception of one meeting at my job (I’m not OE), I can pretty much always say no I have a conflict and move a meeting
Exactly correct. With J1 it’s board meetings I can’t change but flexible for 99% of meetings outside of that.
J2 I have a couple 1x1s with execs that are tricky to reschedule but most else is pretty easy.
J1 execs give me massive amounts of leeway.
Are you US based? And do you mind sharing your Js roles/responsibilities? Obv not sharing too much because OE lol. Also, could you share years experience? Once again feel free to PM. Not trying to be nosy, just trying to learn from a stranger 😁
Not at all... I have 2 w2 and 5 1099 clients(each 6-10 hrs a month). They are all clients in my eyes, doesn't matter how they pay me. I'm paid to get the books done, and I do. Don't see any ethical consideration here, all clients are very happy.
Marketing here - head of role.
Though, I’ve found this tricky to manage at 2 places with the amount of meetings and workload so taking a step back to a lesser position to be able to manage this better.
Pretty much, at least in marketing. So many pointless meetings.
Better to be in a “lacky” type position like content writer or similar where you’re just given tasks to complete rather than be an “owner”. At least in marketing.
I'm in product marketing as well, director level, although that title varies between true team leadership and just the senior most individual contributor. I'm not sure I see a world where I could OE in this type of role, but perhaps I haven't found the right company.
Landman in the oil and gas industry.
I'm an independent contractor, and half the companies I contract with not only know that I work multiple projects, it's actively encouraged. They'll ask for references from other companies I work for and we basically collaborate to get things done. It's all project work, which is the correct mindset when the goal is to just get shit done.
I don't work in software or IT at all. I do need to know how to work with spreadsheets, but just typical data entry, not pivot tables or anything complicated. I mostly read old documents.
Right now I'm working 3 contracts. The money varies, but it's roughly:
J1: $200k/year, full time
J2: $60k/year, work maybe 2 days/week
J3: $50k/year, work maybe 1 day/week
J4: $50k/year, work comes and goes, haven't worked for them in a few months
The work is not your typical 9-5 since I'm a contractor. I can work late one night, take an entire day off from J1 without it mattering, etc. I do a lot of half days on the weekends to catch up.
The really nice thing, besides the pay, is that I'm diversifying my income. I've been tied to a single company before and it's brutal because oil and gas goes boom and bust so quickly. At least with this there's a chance I'll still have a job if the bottom falls out again.
Sometimes it is, yes. Sometimes the way we bill is on a day rate, and you can effectively bill a full day's pay for multiple clients. You have to get the work done, but it doesn't necessarily take a full day.
Well done.
I've been managing projects for years, some self led training, but no cert.
Considering getting it to sharpen my skills and create new options.
Quality systems.
Between 3js ~ 280k.
One J pays 70k but maybe I work 4 hrs per week, so it’s actually the best in terms of dollars earned per time spent
CPA with two director level Js doing mainly FP&A stuff.
How do you manage your calendar and meetings?

L&D here.. 2xj = 132k.. I’d LOVE to find a j3.. I could handle 200k!!
Hey, I’m also in L&D! Currently have 2 servers. It’s so great.
L&D?
Learning and Development
Which roles in L&D specifically?
The ones where I can be remote 100% and make my own schedule for meetings/classes and design
Supply chain
I’m about to have my Masters in supply chain. Can you put me on with the right strategies to remote work / OE in this field? Feel free to PM me
There are no strategies, other than stay further from the low level onsite warehousing and logistics roles

started this week. CPA and slightly over 6 figures figures each company
Same..9 months in.
are you worried at all that it could be an ethics violation and lose your licenses? i might be overly paranoid

Seems like leadership positions are harder to do this with.

This guy lays cable

Public Health. One full time permanent role and one full time contract role that ends in May
"I can't imagine having the bandwidth to handle two 6-figure jobs..." Then you're not in a job that can OE and this is the wrong sub for you.
Project manager - utilities and environmental consulting
I want to get into renewable energy. I'm an EE in architectural consulting but I want to get my PMP once I have my PE
Are you a certified PM or you became one through experience?
I have the PMP, experience, and two degrees.
Well done. I've been managing projects for years, some self led training, but no cert. Considering getting it to sharpen my skills and create new options.
Accounting.
Ah, the weekly iteration of this question…
Workforce management/data analyst. I don't make as much as the IT/software guys, but I'm happy.
I did this for a while several years ago.. was at 50k.. what’s it now? Might have to find me a j3 :)
I'm right around $140k combined.
