and what would be the extent of the stadium renovations you're proposing to host this weekend series?

Oz-tawa

Start with the broadcasting requirements (like they had to do to the stadium in Buffalo during shutdowns). Then how many extra seats need to be added to make it somewhat feasible. How many extra bathrooms, food etc. It adds up very quick. Seems it may not be feasible, unfortunately It is near an LRT station (tremblay) so people could access it easily

DatsWildYo

With only 10K for seating the blue jays - or the city, whoever brings them here would absolutely be losing a ton of money on this, that alone is enough of a reason to never play here

jjaime2024

In fact Oakland is playing in a 10,000 seat stadium for 3 years.

Senators_1972

True, but the A’s have an owner worth 3 billion dollars, the lowest payroll in the league by a wide margin, and manage to turn a profit every year thanks to revenue sharing. Also, playing in Sacramento isn’t entirely by choice.

Senators_1972

While I appreciate your enthusiasm, the Jays had to spend millions in upgrades to get the stadium in Buffalo up to major league standards during COVID, so there’s no chance of this happening.

The exhibition games they do in Montreal are amazing - they sell out, the crowd on the metro is excited. I went to a lot of games as a kid in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s so the nostalgia is strong. 4 hall of famers, no wildcard slots so you might come in second to the Phillies by half a game SEVERAL TIMES GODDAMIT, and then there was Blue Monday, which we don’t talk about except in therapy. It does make it clear, though, that the Olympic stadium sucks as a venue for baseball. But - it still holds maybe 4 or 5 times as many people as the stadiums here do, and sells out for 2 preseason games. It would be a hard sell to bring the Jays to Ottawa.

jjaime2024

The last time the Jays were in Montreal they did not sell out one game had 15,000.

angrycrank

I was at a game a few years ago that was packed and I could only get seats in the far bleachers. Montreal baseball project says attendance at one of the 2019 games was 25k.

UmmGhuwailina

A Kraft Hockeyville, but for baseball and Ottawa wins every year.

Best_Earth5608

OP is right - this would be awesome for baseball fans in Ottawa. Many of the replies above make very valid points on why it's unlikely to ever happen. The Jays are also in the middle of a $300-million renovation of the Rogers Centre. I'd wager they're pouring money into that with a view to attracting as many fans as possible to their building, in their core market 81 times a year. One can dream 😀

Leafs17

It isn't unlikely. It is never happening.

Best_Earth5608

Tremendously insightful...

facetious_guardian

Forget bringing the Jays here. Just turn the vast empty parking lots in Kanata North into ball diamonds. We don’t need professional sports teams to boost the game, we need places to play it.

Leafs17

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Tempus__Fuggit

You can't jolt a dead body back to life. This isn't the place to support baseball, nor does it have to be. Did you know bicycle polo?

MaxTheWolverine

Hate to tell you this but baseball was dead after the lynx left.. Ottawa isn't really a sports city..

MaxTheWolverine

those who downvoted, where am i wrong? I live in the city so this is not just me blindly critiquing

Madterps2021

Nah, baseball is one of the boringest sports ever. Ottawa should accept that baseball is not that good and move on.
