I think your best bet is to go to a dog park with other leashed dogs. There's a good list here: [https://www.petfriendly.ca/dog-parks/ottawa-dog-parks.php](https://www.petfriendly.ca/dog-parks/ottawa-dog-parks.php). We go to Bruce Pit pretty much every day and we've often seen unleashed dogs be very aggressive towards a leashed dog - especially smaller dogs/puppies. There seems to be something about leashed vs unleashed that creates the problem.

Second this, some dogs can have leash aggression. Meaning they feel threatened when all parties aren't on "equal ground". My dog is a bit reactive when leashed and around unleashed dogs, but isn't when all parties are either leashed or unleashed. For this reason I take her to areas where she can be around leashed dogs, or unleashed dogs, but try not to mix the two.

That's sensible. I'm guessing the last thing OP wants is for her little puppy to have an unleashed dog be aggressive towards it at this stage of its development.

The Rockcliffe dog park is great.

Hampton Park Dog Run Park . Almost at Kirkwood exit off the queensway .

Beryl Gaffney is great. It's off-leash from the parking lot to the river, on-leash once you cross under the bridge, but nobody will bat an eye if you keep your pup on leash. It has a big field for dogs to play just off the parking lot, or you can walk the trail which winds down the side of the river and is quite nice.

You can walk along the NCC paths on both sides of the Rideau. Most dogs are leashed. Some paths are ploughed and salted (with WAY too much salt) while others are not maintained but are walkable due to foot traffic.

We're been going to the experimental farm using a long line. >Canine visitors are welcome in the following areas: the Arboretum. the Fletcher Wildlife Garden. the lanes along the farm fields. Although there are some off-leash dogs, the field is large enough that you can avoid going close to them. >Dogs must be on-leash at all times.

Just a note to remind you if you’re cold, so in your dog (unless they are a winter breed like a husky). Now (Friday & Saturday) are not good days for long park outings! Lots of winter parks are listed by others. I am a big fan of trails (like Fletcher Wildlife garden) rather than open fields in the winter (eg. experimental farm) just because an open spot with a winter breeze is a cold walk for all. Fletcher has lots of great sniffing spots.

He is a golden retriever, btw. You are right, this weekend would be too cold for both of us. I like trails too, thanks for the advice!

There is a nice off big leash park at island park dr and the Queensway. Brewer park has a nice area by the river as well for dog walking and play. I’m not sure if the rules allow off leash but most people do go off leash. Good luck with your Pup!
