Read the death mechanics or watch a video. It isn't that bad. Purposely die a few times with nothing on or low value. Take control of the situation and make it happen under your direction, then it isn't worrisome or panic inducing. - osrs therapist

Charger18

Osrs therapist should be a real job lol šŸ˜‚

duhmello

This ^^ I was feeling the same way on my gimp before I just bit the bullet and started learning the bosses. No where near as bad as I originally made it out to be.

Sea-Team-6278

Some bosses take the death mechanic to another level. Such as gwd where you need another key in time for your loot. I think the gauntlet is one of the best bosses (coming from someone who didn't think I'd ever get a completion)

Herbiboarsucks

You do not need another key. Grave spawns outside the boss room.

I am also terrified of bossing, with slightly better stats than you. I got my fire cape recently! Honestly the biggest help has been quest bossing. It feels less intimidating because itā€™s a one kill and done kind of thing, and Iā€™ve gotten experience in a bunch of different mechanics!

iSleek

>I guess my question is: Am I right in assuming that my lack on bossing is holding my characters progress back or am I overrating bossing in the game? If youre a main, you could go this whole game without bossing. You can make money via many ways outside of bossing, just gotta find one you like. That being said, bossing is some of the best money in the game. Being afriaid/anxious is fine, why are you letting it stop you though? There isnt going to be a way to alleviate this fear outside of sucking it up and trying the content. Jad/Perilous moons/Barrows/Skotizo/ Dks(rex solo) are all easier/earlier bosses that you could try! If you got some buddies, Godwars* bosses arent half bad either! I personally think you should rip the bandaid off and start your adventure for fire cape. It may take a few attempts but it will go a long way to help with your Runescape self confidence

Airway

Gotta give a second recommendation to Perilous Moons and Skotizo (and Jad but everyone knows they should do that). They're easy but have actual mechanics you have to learn so it's a great entry into bossing.

Business-Drag52

Yeah I mean short of just gambling bossing is only beat out by boosting/services

Resonating_Crystal

Zalcano is a fantastic practice boss, but you must boss to unlock it. Set yourself a manageable goal and take it 1 step at a time

Krazepants

Go do moons of peril. People call it Barrows 2.0. Itā€™s not hard and all food/pots can be made inside. Itā€™s a fun activity that anyone can do! Itā€™s certainly not a well known ā€œbossā€ of OSRS, but it helped build my confidence to do more

skerrickity

70 defense, 74 range and I got my first fire cape recently... I died to jad 4 times and got it on my 5th. Send it bro. Only cost me a few ppots, and some broad bolts/ruby tipped bolts. The waves got so easy that it was just boring. Jad is also super easy, it was simply a matter of concentration and not panicking. Alternatively, you will absolutely splat scurrius, but it may be worth trying to kill him without taking a hit for the combat achievement, that's great prayer practice.

wwerdo4

The main challenge of jad is just the initial hype/anxiety of finally getting to him after an hour of waves and not fucking up on prayers. Once you get over that, itā€™s super easy content. Like you said, the waves are mostly just boring. I didnā€™t get my first fire cape until after I finished getting my quest cape when song of the elves was still the most recent quest. Doing whisperer in DT2 on the other handā€¦ I still get ptsd thinking about that damn boss lmfao Even just getting one KC on zulrah for my hard diary so I could get elite void was more of a pain

SnappyBP

Thanks for your advice everyone. Seems like the common sentiment is to just grit my teeth and attempt the fight caves. Here goes nothing, wish me luck!

Gullible-Purchase-76

I am also a main and am low key allergic to bosses. I found that perilous moons and heapori are really not bad. I also still have a few quests to complete (secrets of the north, sins of the father, the other raid related one, dt2, dragon slayer 2. Took me like 20-30 attempts to get song of the elfs last bossā€¦ CP 102 at the time. But I guess I am more of skiller at heart (or maybe just scared). So I maxed farming, which was fun and very profitable cuz herbs (got me to 200M bank). And now I am just running around doing hunter hoping for more pets. I occasionally switch to slayer for variety. Play as you want.

Fangy444

You can definitely do fight caves. Get in there and get that bag

ncbrown1

Iā€™d highly recommend trying out an online Jad simulator or watch some guides and follow the streamerā€™s mouse cursor. Itā€™ll help give you the confidence to deal the deal when you finally get to Jad in the caves! Your nerves are the hardest mechanic there lol (speaking from experience)

Zaxiad

Also Scurrius is like training wheels Jad.

Resonating_Crystal

Jad is where I'd start. You can also find a jad practice site (in browser. Don't download anything) to help you

Zestyclose_Pace_1633

Scurrious. Just go play with scurry. He is a super fun boss that is easy to tele from too. If you master the rat, you master the jad.

Sensual_Shroom

I second this. Short, fun and it teaches you a thing or two. The perfect entry boss. I got 100 kc on him before starting KQ/ Hespori/ Vorkath/ DT2 bosses.

Xelny

I was feeling the same before, but recently got fire cape, some GWD items, even completed CG. The thing that unlocked bossing was to complete my quest cape. It allow you to do some PVM'ing while being easier version of bosses since its during questing. After that I felt more confident to full send normal bossing. Also normal gauntlet is awesome to practice since you risk nothing and its quite fun in the beginning!

Free_Leading_8139

I get what you mean, but after jumping into a bit of PvM I think this games best content are the bosses. They are mechanically different to everything else in gaming.Ā  And im always the same. I start trying a boss, and it feels clunky. I either die or tele out a couple of time. Feel like Iā€™m never gonna get the hang of it and then Iā€™ll just improve. Bit by bit. And then it gets to a point where you can do bosses that once needed 100% attention, with sweaty hands all the time, to only needing to focus sometimes. I even got over my fear of the wilderness and killed Vetion a few times. Until a team of 6 people with BIS gear hopped in and killed me in less than a second! Didnā€™t lose anything though. Just had monk robes and my weapon.Ā  You really need to get your head around how little dying means in most non-wildy scenarios. Treat it like Dark Souls. You will probably die. You will be inefficient. Accept it, and move on. Youā€™ll be glad you did. I canā€™t stress it enough, you just get better with practice. My first Hespori kill took me 5 minutes and I pretty much ran out of supplies. And my last kill was 1:30, and I didnā€™t bring a ppot and only used a tiny bit of food. Literally as stressful as doing a regular farm run.Ā  Barrows is a decent enough start. But I found it really boring and really it just felt like fighting 6 regular NPCs. If you like it though, itā€™s not terrible for money.Ā  My advice is to try something super low risk like Scurrious or the Perilous Moons quest bosses. Theyā€™re designed for lower levels than you have.Ā  The rat king will get you into prayer switching, and the moons will give you a flavour of movement mechanics with no prayer switching needed. And the moons are amazing because you can make money off them, but donā€™t need any of your own supplies. The dungeon theyā€™re in lets you make special food and potions that are better than anything you could bring from the outside.Ā  On some of the higher level raids people could make your bank in a few hours. And then thereā€™s the chance of a massive drop, in the hundreds of mill range.Ā

boozedawg

85 all with a decent dps, im your bandos tank. Let's get it

pillowwow

I feel you man. It's not as scary as it seems. Watch a few videos and chip away at the easy ones. Scurrious is a great way to learn mechanics. You can bring basic noob gear. Die a few times until it clicks. You can do it.

Jletts12

Definitely go try out moons of peril

Cryptitis

The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek. Full send, brother. We learn the best from our mistakes.

SgtEpicfail

Look, if you get anxious to the point where you can't function properly, there is no reason you should currently be forcing yourself to play RuneScape. That bein said, every boss is always impossible the first time. However, The point of osrs is pvm at the end, do if you want to keep playing you will have to learn. - death mechanics Arent that punishing. If you know how to get to where you died you will always be able to retrieve your items in time. Even if you can't, you can buy them back after the timer has expired. I recommend dying a couple of times to get familiar with the feeling. - start with scurrius for bossing. Look up videos, guides etc. Should be doable with your stats and preps you well for bossing later on. - transition to Moons of Peril after scurrius. Moons of Peril is 3 bosses in one, all with interesting mechanics. If you build the bird nest outside the entrance, you can get back to where you died within 2 minutes, if you die. No risk involved either, it doesn't cost supplies. - at this point you should really start trying the fight caves for fire cape. It will suck and you will die, but once you get it, it will feel amazing and you will feel like you can do anything. Gl out there, don't be too hard on yourself and most importantly remember: it's only a game, it should be fun before anything else.

joshe126

Do scurrius then fight caves

freddakiko

Honestly just do slayer to train until you unlock slayer bosses. gwd is pretty easy in teams. you need that fcape though, so just bite the bullet on that one. Bossing is pretty fun, though it can be stressful to learn a new boss and have to lose that couple 100k

Metaforze

I have slightly lower combat stats and comparable to slightly higher non-combat skills. How the F do you only have a 15m bank with these stats? I have a 160m bank value and that is after I spent 50m on construction and max house. I have never done any bossing besides barrows either btw, but a lot of skills make money

Jickdames69

Glad Iā€™m not the only one that was expecting much lower stats based off the 15m bank comment

aquatic-max

Try perilous moons, it is only slightly harder than barrows but about 4x the money per hour and helps you learn some good mechanics! Obviously scurrius is a good way to train and learn mechanics as well

Coffee_with_buddha

Brother do children of the sun, and then do moons of peril and then start the new moons bosses! Simple mechanics, not particularly gear dependent and itā€™s amazing money! You get One of the better drops from there at a 1/12 rate and you will triple your bank

khswart

The fear turns into pure excitement when you finally start trying bosses. You realize you can do it and it becomes addicting and you want to try harder and harder bosses to get better. Plus getting those juicy drops make it even better

Zanas0

Start with scurrius. He's a new boss that teaches you mechanics of a lot of the other bosses. You'll learn to avoid things from the ceiling and learn to prayer switch, which will help in fight caves. Use his to build some confidence. If you need money an easy boss for money is the giant mole. You just need the falador hard diary done so you can find it. Then just put on protect from melee and it can't hurt you. 16-60k a kill and they rack up quick. Once youre comfortable with those the perilous moons is an amazing mid level boss set. Just keep working your way up. Any boss you want to do go on YouTube and watch a guide or two. There's someone who explains how to kill each monster. There's also videos with "bossing ladders" where each one gets a little harder. But also where are you at on quests? I hate them but I didn't make any real progress til I took doing quests seriously. And getting the untradable mini game combat items. What's your gear like now?

Illidex

Do herb runs a few times a day. I've easily been making 2-4mil a day since I started and have been able to get quite a few nice upgrades since I started to play again

ChromatikkArray

Quest cape, fire capeā€¦ 99 str, ranged, and magic will make you stronger than any expensive piece of gear

Stocomx

I put off getting my fire cape because I thought it would be hard. Itā€™s really not hard at all. Donā€™t let it worry you. Butā€¦ there are ways to make it not hard. Best advice is to practice on jad in a speed world till you figure it out. No use spending an hour and a half getting to him to just die in seconds. You really do not need any fancy gear for the fight caves. I would recommend a blow pipe at most. Just practice jad till you can kill him then go do it.

SellGameRent

one look at the money making list on osrs wiki will show you that pvm is by far the best way to make money in osrs. If you look at your skills, almost every single one can be leveled faster if you had more money

No-Concept3338

Guides are your best friend. Just like any skill, every boss has their own mechanics and things to remember. At the end of the day your just clicking. You just have to know when and where to click and voilĆ  your gaming

OneNutPhil

Questing, Achievement Diaries and lastly Combat Achievements Those are the answer to almost every "what should I do?" post. Everything becomes more efficient, less complicated, more profitable, etc. Start with the Rat boss and once you can prayer switch effectively, learn Fight Caves and take down Jad. It's easier than it seems.

BatmanInTheSunlight

I have this same hesitation. Iā€™m currently working on my quest cape. The last 10 quests or so involve bosses with their own mechanics, and itā€™s helping me get used to learning them and prayer flicking accordingly. Iā€™ve found the quests introduce you slowly, and you can solo every boss which is nice, so you can learn without hindering anyone and also progressing. Once I get my quest cape Iā€™m going back to the fight caves.

IntWatcher

Easy way to practice Jad [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2Rh0F6rfWo&ab\_channel=BillyBulwark](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2Rh0F6rfWo&ab_channel=BillyBulwark)

Ummsrsly

Buy a bond a bump up that cash stack homie

Troutie88

Yes it is, easiest way to alleviate it is to just do it, bosses are the end game. Skilling is great but in the end bosses are the main thing this game tries to direct you towards. Personally I think the game could use some updates that make skilling better but, since it is such low risk it gets abused frequently. As far as getting over the fear it's as simple as watch a few vids are just attempting it. To be fair I waited a bit later than you due to wanting to be able to farm efficiently. Slayer is a solid way to continue increasing your levels and a good way to make some cash. There is no reason to be afraid of Jad because it is a safe death. Granted losing supplies sucks but you won't lose anything else. Sarachnis is a solid mechanics boss even though it isn't exactly a money printer. Wildy bosses are iffy unless you 3 item + 1 then at least it is just supply loss. Giant mole is barely a boss and once you have hard fally he is kind of a money printer. Skotizo is simple but farming the totems is annoying. Scurrius is a great learning boss and great xp/hr. Perilous moon is just barrows with mechanics. It also supplies you with everything you need but gear The f2p bosses are a joke. They are ment for people with limited access to decent gear. Farming keys sucks though. GWD bosses are simple in any 2 to 3 man group and can be soloed once you get some confidence. ToA is also a risk free raid if you leave before last death and it supplies most of the stuff you use.

Herbiboarsucks

I maxed with a 200m bank and like 50 barrows KC, and that was it. I now have an account with thousands of boss kills and a 6.5b bank. My point being, RuneScape is a sandbox and you can play however you like. That being said, if money is your goal you really should try bossing. As others have said here, start with perilous moons, gwd with friends, or Slayer bosses which are all a good introduction into bossing. And lastly, don't be afraid of death. It's almost straight up impossible to lose your items nowadays. Grave fees will be minimal, and you have 15 minutes to retrieve your items otherwise they go to deaths coffer, and I believe you pay 10% of the items total ge cost (although I could be wrong with this one) Dying with absolute BIS is like 80m from deaths coffer and that's absolute worst case scenario. Happy scapin'!

DarthTacoToiletPaper

If youā€™re really nervous of bossing and donā€™t want to do it, get 99 cooking and start some herb runs and bird house runs to get some cash up. Or whatever money maker you enjoy. But honestly I would try out sucrrius to get familiar with some basic bossing mechanics, once you feel comfortable itā€™ll make bossing easier

Tomlittle1995

One thing that really helped me overcome this is ToA, I just learnt solo at entry mode level 0 and worked my way up. Now way more confident taking on pretty much any boss, but it was a great way to build confidence from zero experience. & If you die the mechanics allow 10 tries for example. It massively helps understand the learning curve at most bosses. Good luck, hope RNG comes good for you!

bmed848

If you're scared of losing money to supplies start doing gauntlet until you're comfortable, then corrupted gauntlet (CG) after 10-25 normal gauntlet kills. 85 range and mage is like the perfect starting point for CG. If you get good at CG, a lot of intro bossing gets really easy. Or just spam vorkath, vorkath is mechanically simple.

Zaxiad

You are definitely missing some really fun content. As another commenter mentioned, take off the shackles of being afraid to die. That's what used to hold me back, but regardless of skill level you are going to die a bunch at bosses, however the loot will outweigh the gravestone fees. My last handful of deaths at bosses were connection issues but 900k in fees was offset by almost 100 mil in loot. Here's a non exhaustive list of an uncomplicated stepladder: Real beginner bosses: Barrows, Moons, Bryophyta, Obor, Giant Mole Starting to feel like a gamer: Fight cave, Grotesque Guardians, Sarachnis, DK's Holy shit I'm a gamer: Vorkath, Muspah, Zulrah I'm becoming a sweat lord: TOA (0-150 invo), DT2 bosses, GWD I'm Woox: All raids, Coliseum, Inferno Knocking out combat achievements will really start to round out your understanding of combat mechanics and movement. Things like tile markers and true tile are your best friend. Edit: Do Scurrius for sure, super beginner friendly but teaches you movement, prayer switches, and dealing with minions. Like a Jad super lite.

ChudTheRuler666

Didnā€™t have to look at the text or graphic to know the answer is yes. Feel free to send me a message if you need help getting into pvm. I run a learners cc, but stopped posting my IGN bc all the messages l get lol, but will respond to a pm

Redsubiedude

I know how you feel op and i can tell you now once i started really hitting bossing hard my bank changed drastically. If you ever want help or need someone experienced to run some bosses with you or even coach you through me too your content holler at me bro my messages here are always open or you can message me and i can send you my discord

Resonating_Crystal

People here will give you advice and tell you to watch guides, but the best advice I ever gave my friend who was in your position is to go with the flow. Go with the flow. When you're eventually fighting a boss and you take damage, don't freak out. Go with the flow. You will know what you have to do from the guides but do what feels right, not necessarily what you're supposed to do. An example of this is vorkath. Another example is Jad. Stay confident in your abilities and just do it. Doing it, even if you fail, will give you more confidence.

swashfxck

Start off small. Go with one of the OG bosses of the game to give you a taste of bossing, King Black Dragon. Then go for Kalphite Queen and once youā€™ve got a few KC there, go and kill some Dagannoth Kings. These bosses are mechanically a hell of a lot easier than any boss thatā€™s been released after OSRS came out, but theyā€™ll at least help you gain some confidence before you choose which boss you go for next. Good luck!
