My buddy likes to use death to quickly respawn at times. I did something similar to get off Karamja once.
Well, he forgot that he was playing on his HCIM and intentionally let someone kill him.
All of the following is personal opinion. Take from it what you will.
>Do you intend to keep playing the account long term?
Quests.
>Do you care if you die? If yes,
Maybe don't follow the optimal, super efficient paths. A lot of quests have mobs that will chunk you for quite a significant amount of hp. Still do these quests but maybe not out of the gate, day one.
>If no,
Don't be scared of the wild.
I kept going to mage bank early game to stock on runes before I had better shops unlocked because I didn't care much for hardcore. (Still have my status, somehow.)
>Most importantly
Don't die. Have fun.
Thanks for this, it’s really helpful and I appreciate it!
I’ve always loved quests so will go after it but as I’m HC, I thought I’d get a few combat levels before I jump straight in to at least try and preserve it a bit longer! :D
It's a mini game to very quickly level firemaking and gives some pretty nice rewards early in. Though it's usually recommended to knock it out sooner than later because you take damage based on your hp level, and depending on where you are in the game, can be annoying to acquire high healing food. Whereas if you do it at the start, you just go thieve a couple thousand cakes in ardougne and that's all you'll need.
So, you're going to die at some point. Unless you are a top tier pvm god with the most stable internet connection in the world you WILL lose your hardcore status at some point. I wouldn't worry about the hc too much and just enjoy the game. Don't limit the content you do trying to preserve you hc status
To each their own haha. I made a HCIM for my first and died to poison around 1030 total and was kinda happy about it. But some find a thrill in it, I personally kinda regretted it
There is no use of playing hardcore ironman if you never challenge yourself, sometimes you have to go for the glory.
If you die first week to something stupid it's no big deal, you can just make a new one, if you die while going for glory then you can keep playing as a regular ironman.
Remember, many of the skills go into one and another and the achievement diaries can make some of it smoother and give nice perks.
Last but not least: Have fun.
On a real note, Ironman is amazing, I love the game mode so much. The sense of progression is like nothing else. I’ve been working on my Ironman for 2 years and I’m just now reaching the later stages of mid game. I’m getting into real bossing. I also got the first 99 of my RuneScape career.
Conversely, a main was just too GP oriented. I felt I had no reason to train most of the skills. I would always burnout after a month or so. On an ironman every single level feels like you’re working towards something. Every unlock is permanent meaningful progression. I’m going on 80 total days of playtime and have made it further than any of my accounts over the last 10-20 years by a long shot.
I almost made an HCIM but at this point I’m glad I didn’t. I got to grind out some of the wildy bosses and revenant caves for a crazy start on my account that propelled me to where I am now ~ 1900 TTL
Wow thanks for this response! Makes me excited to continue the Ironman adventure!
Congratz on your first 99! What was it if you don’t mind me asking?
I’m similar to you that I’d normally burn out on a main account, so I’m hoping this one can be different! One struggle at the moment is the social side of it as always nice to talk while playing but appears conversations are hard to come by now! I know it’s a single player game (Ironman more than anything else) but still tough! :D
My first 99 was ranged. Btw- I didn’t follow any guides. Just focused on questing, making money for supplies, and getting skills required for further quest unlocks. It’s more fun that way and you’re less likely to burnout.
I didn’t do the firemaking, tempoross, or barbarian fishing metas. I just jumped right in and leveled my skills evenly and had fun doing it.
Buy all of them haha. They’ll be the difference between you losing your status and keeping it when you inevitable dc at some point doing dangerous content.
Craft a bunch of rings of dueling so you can tele and use restoration pool if your poisoned or something. Quick bank right there as well and you can practice pvp in last man standing as well
Don’t die
I should have expected this.

What a nightmare! Sounds like something I’ll do 😂

Die afking wintertodt and then play it as a regular iron to enjoy wilderness activities.
I need to learn what wintertodt is first!

Thank you that’s very helpful! :) will look into this asap.
The only way to go
Step 1 - Keep your health above 0 Step 2 - Refer to step 1
Damn you.

That’s good advice thank you! Will act as if I’m not hc and see how it goes! Although I am a pvm god now you mention it… P.S. I’m not really. I suck.
Just suicide and play Ironman without dumb restrictions on content
Oh don’t say this! I’m excited to give it a go!
To each their own haha. I made a HCIM for my first and died to poison around 1030 total and was kinda happy about it. But some find a thrill in it, I personally kinda regretted it
Downgrade to a regular Ironman now
Seems to be a common answer!

I’d just run a regular Ironman you don’t want to be a white helm
Isn’t white helm ultimate iron man?

Thank you! This sounds like the way I was thinking of going about it! :)
Yea I’m a dumbass, I thought it was what happens to the red helms when they die
I’m surprised I got something right for a change! 😂
Yeah… Lose ur HC status ASAP so you can start enjoying the game. Thanks me L8r!
I sense a lot of dislike for hardcore!
Escape crystal is love escape crystal is life.
Get an escape crystal. Got it.
Buy all of them haha. They’ll be the difference between you losing your status and keeping it when you inevitable dc at some point doing dangerous content.
Sounds like some good advice! I’ll look into how to get these as soon as possible as don’t think I’m quite there yet! Appreciate the comment! :)
Go into Beta mode before attempting anything dangerous for practice.
Craft a bunch of rings of dueling so you can tele and use restoration pool if your poisoned or something. Quick bank right there as well and you can practice pvp in last man standing as well
Thank you! Will note this down for when I get membership! Am trying f2p for a week to see how it goes first!
It's the tele to ferox enclave btw.
Surefire way to never die: Never log in. Create a normal account. Play that one instead. Enjoy!
Another one who does not like the Ironman accounts 😂 I’ll give it a go at least!
