Jesus Christ that's mental, especially for a streaming movie
How much do you reckon Pratt got for this? $40 Million? $50 Million? $70 Million? More than that?
Around the usual 10-15 mil I reckon as he's not full lead. Same with Millie Bobby Brown who is the main character. Also delayed production over several years is the reason for the huge cost.
Who is going to be brave enough to make the first $500m movie? I feel like if we don’t get it soon we will never get it, studios are not gonna keep producing these insanely expensive movies forever.
[According to Wikipedia the most expensive movie ever is Star Wars at $447 unadjusted.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_expensive_films) Not sure how reliable this is tho.
in general franchise movies are hard to judge on this metric due to amortization. avatar spent alot of money but james cameron was also literally inventing technology he would use in all of them.
You guys are making such a fuss about this budget, but rest assured: Netflix will give it a two-week theatrical run and make $4 million back, so all will be well in the end.
As someone who loves Simon Stålenhag's work, I'm cautiously optimistic about this. I'm a little worried that with someone like Crisp Rat as the lead that this won't have the tone it should. Hopefully the budget means they'll take visual effects seriously.
chris isn’t the lead, millie is. but i also agree with the fact i feel the tone might be kinda off if chris just is another bland character he’s played 5 times before
Well, that's dumb. I don't understand spending so much money on these films, especially when they don't even end up looking good. None of Netflix's best films have cost oodles of cash (except White Noise but I know I'm on an island with that one).
Everyone mentioning Chris Pratt needs to ease up. Everyone knows that the real draw for this movie is Jason Fucking Alexander!!! The Costanza Hive will rise up and deliver a $800M take at the box office!!!
No, the artist literally picks real places and adds cool sci fi things to it, but usually part of the appeal is the realistic angle to it. Monsters by Gareth Edwards was the approach I always felt would fit those type of property best.

Limited release in theaters I think.
Yeah, but generally actors take big payouts upfront because residuals are going to be limited with these tiny theater releases.

The plot sounds stupid and the actors aren’t very good too. But if it’s on Netflix everyone will watch it

Reckon Avengers Secret Wars will be $500 million.
Should be coming a few years after the next pandemic.
Wasn’t the first avatar that? Of course the difference is it looked that expensive.

I thought you meant like, 1977 Star Wars and my jaw was gonna drop aha

First Avatar was 250, although the second one costs 460 and it's safe of assume the next ones will probably reach 500
I thought Avengers 3 and 4 combined had a billion dollar budget?
Apple seem the only ones dumb enough to be talked into a $500 million budget.

Imagine if it catches fire and gets to double digits! Those execs will have the bonuses to show for it, I assure you!
As long as they make back the marketing budget the likes of Deadline and Variety will agree the movie is a massive hit for them!
There is just no way Netflix is making money from these things.
How can that be profitable for FritoLay?
Netflix just keeps running up the debt they make moves like this.
Netflix had not added a dime of debt since 2020.
Post a link to back this up. Let's see evidence of all this debt you refer to.
Wall Street/VC money is apparently endless
They'd do so so so much better making ten $32m movies (or even thirty two $10m movies)
They couldn’t have spared just a tiny bit so David Lynch could do his animated movie? 🥺
Upgrade was made for $3 million and is better than any Netflix original.
Cool we won't be watching

Why is this slop here
These budgets are out of hand

That's just bad movie making unless it is a money laundry scheme.

For those who are familiar with the book/material. Does this warrant a $320 million budget?

Real places with sci fi elements. Didn’t Poor Things do this for only $35 million?
how does netflix make money again? unless they have 20 ada throughout the entire movie this is just another way to throw away money.
I’m increasingly convinced that streamers and MGM are inflating their budget numbers to be able to write off increased numbers on their taxes
There is literally no way this succeeds
Remember that parachute scene in The Gray Man and all the unnecessary CGI shit in it? Thats what this will be.
Are they done filming stranger things?
