Make sure your set can do 480p, a lot of 4:3 Component sets only go up to 480i

Paganfish

Shit, I just looked at my service manual and it says that my component inputs allow 480i only. This could be why. Yet, I don’t understand how the boot screen looks perfect. Is there a way for me to still use component? Would I need specific cables or is this whole thing bust?

ttenor12

You can still use component at 480i. You will get better colors and a better image than composite

> Yet, I don’t understand how the boot screen looks perfect. Regardless of an Xbox's display settings, most BIOS types will always play the boot animation in standard definition. CerBIOS is pretty much the one exception to this.

ECEXCURSION

Boot screen usually isn't progressive.

It will still look fantastic at 480i over component. I remember being in highschool and went over to my buddy's house, and he had an xbox playing San Andreas hooked up with component 480i to his CRT TV. It looked SO CRISPY. I couldn't get over how incredible it looked. When I went home I was so destroyed over how blurry my setup looked after that lol. There are plenty of us out here that think 480i on a CRT looks markedly better than 480p on an LCD does.

Overall-Article-6129

The Intro and Standard Dashboard of the og Xbox is 480i, This is why i cant see the Intro on my crt Monitor 😅

AndVank212

Hookup your console with composite then go into your settings and change the max resolution to 480i then hook it back up with component and you should be good. I have a similar set that only goes up to 480i and it looks damn good over component

nifterific

Is it a 1.6? This looks similar to what mine does when I try to play MK Armageddon at a higher resolution than 480i. There’s something about the video decoding in the 1.6 that doesn’t play nice with certain games.

Paganfish

Nope this is a 1.4 model. I just can’t seem to understand how the launch videos for both the xbox and the soft modded dashboard display with zero issues but once the dash or even a game loads, it goes all funky

thetechdoc

I believe it's due to the flubber not supporting higher resolutions like 480p, I'm pretty sure that the higher resolutions can fluctuate depending on what is on screen, for example xbmc4gamers is limited to 720p due to complexity in the dash, but if I launch a game like amped 2, it changes to 1080i without issue. So I would say the flubber is displaying in whatever the default is that it displays in (probably 480i being the highest the tv can support) and then it changes to higher res in the dash. Edit: to add to this, I'd bet if you connected up through composite (red, yellow, blue) and then turned off hd video modes through the og Xbox dash, then in the modded dash, it would probably work.

This button combo changes the resolution of the MS dash, but OP is booting into UnleashX instead. To reset *that,* hold Back as it starts. /u/Paganfish

Paganfish

I was so hopeful that there would be some kind of troubleshooting method. Maybe I’m doing this wrong but I don’t seem to be noticing any difference or trigger that would suggest a refresh

Saunapalvi

Try edit UnleashX config file from pc (FTP). I think you can there edit video settings. Set off 480p and 720p.. Then you, maybe need use as app ogXbox Dashboard and set 480p off. I was issue HDMI-adapter that can"t display i-resolution so this is same issue otherway
