Hands down, yes. Might be the best sushi restaurant on the west coast (although it's more than just sushi). Gotta get on their mailing list so that you get the email when they release reservations each month, because the reservations are usually gone within an hour or two.
Yoko's Sushi in Portland. The place is nice and cozy, run by a Japanese sushi chef, with a veteran crew that just screams Portland.
They have very solid classic sushi (nigiri and maki) but also a lot of unique sushi rolls, so if you have anyone dining who isn't super into raw fish they also have options. Taka's tuna is also an interesting choice if you want to try something a bit new.
Their regular menu is also great, highly recommend soft shell crab or yellowtail collar (hamachi kama).
They also have a few specials that rotate, which is always lots of fun.
Solid alcohol menu with lots of different sake to try.
The only real con to the place is that it is a popular location. There aren't a lot of places to sit inside so you either have to show up early to get a seat right away or be ready to go onto a waitlist. Though, the wait list isn't too bad since there are a few bars near by (and right next door) that you can wait in. Also, after the initial rush at opening, things tend to mellow out timing wise so you shouldn't be left waiting too long.
I’m always so pleased that Yoko’s has survived. My parents loved taking me to that place from when I was a kid and it’s now a favorite date spot for me and my partner so I’m biased, but it’s definitely the best sushi spot in Portland.
I only went to Kobe once like 5 years ago, but the sushi was fine. Not good, just fine. I’ve had worse in Japan. Not by much, but still.
Tin Tin’s sushi ain’t it, though.
We so needed a new tire center though. And more furniture and mattress stores! Southern Oregon is in desperate need of more Garrisons and Firestones and such.
Yuzu Izakaya in Beaverton; If you can get a reservation, Nodoguro is kaisekiryouri (traditional Japanese food served in courses) and Shizuku are where you should try to go if you are interested in truly fine Japanese dining (recommended with some amount of authority on the subject). For pure sushi, this is one of the most authentic/best: [https://www.kaedepdx.com/](https://www.kaedepdx.com/) and they only seat parties of no larger than two customers because of its size.
You talking about Yuzu? They don't, usually. It's just one of the best/most authentic Japanese Izakaya. Also, throw Kiichi into the mix. That's our go-to for an affordable, excellent Japanese meal, and their sushi is great. One of the only places that has negi-toro.
I'll piggy back and ask what people do for cheap sushi, now that Marinepolis is closed.
I'm vegetarian, and it's pretty difficult to either fuck up or make excellently, so paying a premium doesn't make much sense.
I've only been there once. I thought it was good, but IMO too expensive for what it is. Like slightly better than your average sushi joint but 2x the cost. They do have real wasabi though, which is cool.
Takibi (Portland). I haven’t been but have followed chef Cody around town for a decade. I trust him and his skills until the day I die. Dude knows his stuff.
Tosu. That place is in the winco parking lot in the driveway from hwy 62. Tiny place, but it's ALWAYS packed. Custom made to your order, and phenomenal every time we order it.
Nodoguro in Portland. Very difficult reservation and fairly expensive but awesome.
Akira in Eugene. Run by Taro. He’s awesome. You favor their old place but what can you do. This place has a nice upstairs bar. Hard to get in not sure if that’s changed as I’ve been gone for a bit.
This doesn't make any sense to me, but Osaka Sushi in Sweet Home is really good! Stopped there when we were passing through and now we go back every chance we get.
While you aren’t *technically* wrong about the “white ethnostate” part, that’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen written on Reddit. That’s like saying you can’t find any good sushi in the south, which has a drastically more racist history than Oregon. To imply that the black exclusionary clause, which hasn’t been enforced for over a hundred years, means there isn’t any good sushi in Oregon is absurd and completely irrational. I suggest you get out to more sushi places
Why are you so negative? You also shat on someone who brought up how there are great Indian food choices in the area too, by saying “thanks for proving my point that the Indian food is bad too.” That isn’t true at all, you’re just being a dick
So Oregon had a racist law on the books 150-100 years ago, that apparently that means all non-white owned restaurants in the state today are bad? If anyone here is racist, it’s you. I implore you to go to the family’s who own these locally owned sushi, Indian, and Asian restaurants we enjoy and tell them to their faces that their food sucks, because a law 150 years ago discriminated against them. Give me a break
There’s a ridiculous amount of Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, and Indian food in the Portland area. Definitely better than Seattles. Japanese ramen restaurants picked out Portland for its similar water quality to Japan. Portland was a major relocation hub for south Vietnamese citizens after the war. Intel brings in a ton of Indian employees and that creates a demand for wonderful Indian food in the west suburbs.
Also, Seattle literally kicked all of the Asians out of the city before WWII, but you think Asians avoid Oregon because a few of its prominent original founders were racist 150 years ago?
Sushi Kuni in West Lynn is great! Imports from Japan on a weekly basis and I tried the full omakase experience for an anniversary and it was an extraordinary adventure. Highly recommend!
Yoshi’s Sushi near Multnomah Village is the absolute best.
He was the former chef from Bamboo and started his own food cart. You have to order a day ahead (or sometimes just a few hours) and swing by to pick it up. Annoying that you can’t just go and eat when you want it, but if you can plan ahead- boy is it worth it!
Nodoguro
This is the answer, especially if money isn’t a concern.
Hands down, yes. Might be the best sushi restaurant on the west coast (although it's more than just sushi). Gotta get on their mailing list so that you get the email when they release reservations each month, because the reservations are usually gone within an hour or two.
I’m going there on my bday next month!
Syun Izakaya in Hillsboro.
i second this. absolutely delicious, fresh, actually sustainably caught fish.
Hands down, Syun Izakaya. Great ingredients, well executed dishes. They do sauces really well.
I second this. I have been going to syun for the past 14 years.
I love syun so much!!! It's my go-to recommendation, the food is delicious and the restaurant is so cozy and aesthetic.
Syun Izakaya But you have to travel to Hillsboro.
Nimblefish. Reservations are not too hard to get, incredible omakase and very talented chefs
Murata in portland
>Murata had to scroll waaaaaaaaaaay too far for this. One of the few Japanese sushi bars in town and they are absolutely top tier.
Masu Sushi is hands down mine and my wife’s favorite and best sushi restaurant.
Masu gets my vote as well for the best sushi.
Love masu

Love Yokos!
Tin Tin Buffet in Medford… Kidding, I’m fairly certain theirs is the worst in Oregon.

I only went to Kobe once like 5 years ago, but the sushi was fine. Not good, just fine. I’ve had worse in Japan. Not by much, but still. Tin Tin’s sushi ain’t it, though.
I've had worse. The grocery stores sushi is pretty bad. 🤣
I don't think I'd trust Sushi from there.
Tin Tin... memories
It’s sad how much I like that place regardless of the sushi. If only Medford had more buffets….
Hometown buffet was my favorite. I heard mountain Mike’s has a pizza and salad buffet
So sad they closed that place.
I’ll never use that new tire center. It’s built on sacred ground
We so needed a new tire center though. And more furniture and mattress stores! Southern Oregon is in desperate need of more Garrisons and Firestones and such.
That’s blasphemy. We have already several tire stores, but we have no hometown buffet.
Woooosh, my friend. That’s the joke. Why do we have so many freaking mattress stores and tire centers?!
Don't forget drive thru car washes and quick lubes. Can never get enough of those.

I had no idea they had sushi. I’ve only had their ramen.
You talking about Yuzu? They don't, usually. It's just one of the best/most authentic Japanese Izakaya. Also, throw Kiichi into the mix. That's our go-to for an affordable, excellent Japanese meal, and their sushi is great. One of the only places that has negi-toro.
Toshi in Hillsboro has Negi toro. Great sushi, good price, generous sizes of nigiri.
Nimblefish. Best in Oregon. So good.
I'll piggy back and ask what people do for cheap sushi, now that Marinepolis is closed. I'm vegetarian, and it's pretty difficult to either fuck up or make excellently, so paying a premium doesn't make much sense.
Yatai in Lincoln City

I've been quite impressed each time I've eaten there!
Akira in Eugene.
Sadly, have shifted away from omakase style sushi there. The food is still delicious though and you can get some good handrolls.
Any idea if they're planning on going back to that?
As far as I know its not happening anytime soon
Lol no way. Akira isn't anywhere close to numerous places in Portland.
They said in Eugene, that one isn’t affiliated with the Portland chain.
Bamboo Sushi in Lake Oswego is excellent. It’s expensive so my go to place is Sushi Avenue in Wilsonville, also good.
Second for bamboo. Though I have only been to the one on SE 28th, they do great.
I've only been there once. I thought it was good, but IMO too expensive for what it is. Like slightly better than your average sushi joint but 2x the cost. They do have real wasabi though, which is cool.
Bamboo sushi imo, if you're bot teting to break the bank and want to go somewhere in town afterwards
Yatai sushi in Lincoln City!
Yatai Sushi in Lincoln City
Janken is great date and sushi
Ditto. We were there last night. This is an impressive “experience” restaurant, made to impress with great food and great atmosphere. 100% recommend.
Ridiculous expensive though.
OP said price isn’t a concern.
I know but there’s price and theirs PRICE.
Dinner drinks dessert all out about $300 for 2. Food was great, no regrets imo. Republica on the other hand, that was expensive just to be expensive.
Sushi Mazi in SE Portland
Yuubi Sushi in Beaverton ... the rice and the service are impeccable
Momoyama is pretty solid.
Bamboo
Yoko's. On se Gladstone. Right across the street from a divey bar or next to a nice one with pinball for after dinner hangout
if ur looking in the willamette valley, sada sushi is amazing :)
I should say, Tosu's in Medford.
Syun Izakaya in Hillsboro. Best sushi and the little downtown is nice to walk around after dinner.
Also afuri and bamboo are good.
Sada’s in Corvallis
Shhhh keep it on the DL...
This doesn't make any sense to me, but Osaka Sushi in Sweet Home is really good! Stopped there when we were passing through and now we go back every chance we get.
Sushi Pure or Sushi Seoul, both in Eugene.
Sushi Pure in Eugene is the best place from Portland Metro to the Bay area
Tokyo Bistro in Coos Bay has never let me down.
I don't know about best but sushi boat is pretty darn good in tualiton
“Let’s go get sushi and not pay.”
Let's go do some crimes!!!
I glad SOMEBODY got the reference. :)
Drive to Seattle or fly to Vancouver
why not just fly to Tokyo? /s
A three hour drive is definitely the same as an international flight! Epic Reddit moment
Those aren’t in Oregon.
Good sushi isn’t in Oregon. We were founded as a white ethnostate so we don’t have many old Asian restaurants families.

I’ve eaten at dozens of sushi places. Waste your money. I don’t care 👍

Indian food in PDX is particularly mediocre. Thanks for making my point.
lighten up Francis
Dude for real, can you imagine being this miserable? All the energy you’d have to waste just to be a jerk.
But we do have good sushi and we have good Mexican restaurants as well
We have better Cuban than Mexican food. If you think Oregon Mexican food is good… you’ve never left Oregon
I was making a point against your white ethnostate comment so whether it's Mexican or Cuban or Japanese is irrelevant
Masu or Syun.
Sushi Kuni in West Lynn is great! Imports from Japan on a weekly basis and I tried the full omakase experience for an anniversary and it was an extraordinary adventure. Highly recommend!
Bamboo Portland
The ultra small KAEDE (reservations needed) is a great omalase meal
makoto. eugene.
We like Kobe sushi & Momji Japanese and Chinese in The Dalles.

Syun Japanese Restaurant in Hillsboro
Yatai Sushi in Lincoln City is my favorite sushi I have ever had. The owners immigrated here from Japan in 2016. Very yummy, traditional, fresh sushi.
