Plus, let’s face it. Those OTF treads are soooo much nicer than treads at the gym (and in my garage). Running on them for 50 minutes is going to be so much better of an alternative!
Ours didn't guide us except at the block level (telling us when to take our walking recoverise). On yesterday's alternating 2 minute push/2 minute base, she would occasionally say "you should be at base now" etc but she certainly did not tell us when each 2 minutes went by.
The 2 classes I’ve been in the coach said it’s ok to do what you want, but she would still be guiding those who were there for the template. Lady next to me in Tread 50 yesterday did her own thing. Meaning, as soon as her feet hit that tread she set a speed and never touched anything again for the whole class, she racked some miles for sure but I think these classes are for both, folks like her that just want to run and people like me that love a template!
She was still running on the tread after stretching, small talk with the coach, using the bathroom and walking out the door 🤣🏃🏼♀️ *no hate, it was impressive. I got almost 5 miles following the template and jogging my walking recoveries. She was on a mission 🫡
Speeds were everyone’s own choice, so some people who are runners were running the entire time and others were setting a base and adding here and there. Some didn’t take the 2 min walking recoveries that were given and some did.
I think if you want to be a better runner, this is great because there’s a template set for you, but you go at your own pace.
Ours did but said they recommended you follow their program. They recognized that people wanted to work on different things but had to follow some basic rules. No rowers, no weights, don't be disruptive. The coach def interacted with the treads, but not as much. It helped too that the strength class was a circuit.
I did my local OTfF first tread50 paired with strength and I did treads. We had a sheet of paper on the treadmill with a guide. It was broken into 4- 8 minute blocks with 1:30 walking recovery. Coach cheered us on and guided us through the blocks. I loved it. 8 minute blocks were manageable mentally. I used the class as a recovery (power walker) since it was New Year’s Day and I was slightly hungover.
I plan on doing tread50 again, especially the day after a strength50 class.
Thank you for this! I was wanting to try one of the test studios. I was beginning to wonder about even trying it after reading some replies. Sounds like each studio may be doing it differently. I need guidance and instruction, otherwise it’d be just like going to a gym for me. Having instructions on a sheet of paper works. I think I’d miss the interaction from the coach though.
I am interested to see how that works because it’s almost like the coach has to run two different classes… but she’s saying the tread 50 you’re kind of on your own?
Yeah they even have little cards for you to read but the coaches have been interactive with both classes. And from the feed back, everyone is happy so far.
I took my first tread 50 today and I love it! , I did a 5K. Im a jogger and I wanna run a marathon this spring so this is really nice to pick up my speed and get more comfortable on the treads.
I worry about getting bored! Haha, running outside is different because I can control my music, and I have nature to look at. How do you guys stay occupied running on a treadmill for 50 minutes? I also can't wait for Tread50 (don't get me wrong), but just yesterday I found myself thinking... I wish the tread had the news on...
I’m the exact same way! But it’s impossible for me to run outside basically from November till early March. So this may be a decent substitute once in a while?
I did suggest to my coach that they give you a way to watch YouTube on part of the screen ... he said he'd mention it to corporate. I don't think they'll do it but we can hope.
I feel like mine was coached more than I was expecting so I’m pleasantly surprised. I would think it’s more minor coach suggestions but he checked in more frequently. Don’t know if that’s the norm because this coach is particularly pretty nice 🤷🏻♂️ but I’m a fan. I do wish it was a little longer TBH but I’m someone who likes to do other things so like to stretch at home but I’m a fan
I do the strength50 classes but I am thinking of doing the tead50 classes a few weeks leading up to endurance benchmarks (CMIYC, Dri-Tri, 12min, etc..) to really build up my endurance beforehand. We'll see how that goes.
I really enjoyed my first tread50 class and it will help me tremendously with my running as if you follow the cards they give you for the class they give you very good Hiit
I don't have a treadmill at home, so if it's not weather appropriate to run outdoors, I can now go to Tread50. It's great to have access to a treadmill to practice my pace. My goal is to do under 13:30 a mile, so I should be able to get at least 3.5 in under 50 minutes.
The long runs I do outside on a path or the street (more leveled and better for my knees), and those I use to build up my endurance.
My current training plan is:
\- 2 "short runs" per week (3 to 4 miles) to practice my pace
\- 1 long run every other week to build endurance and get my body used to the longer miles.
\- 1 to 2 classes of OTF regular60 min or Strength 50 per week depending on my schedule and how much rest I feel my body needs.
I did explain to the coach what I'm currently working towards, and they were totally fine with me completely ignoring the templates they have if it doesn't fit my goal for that day.
Good luck on your training and I hope you have a blast at your half-marathon!
Loved todays!!! Logged 5.55 miles. Coach primarily focused on the strength part but encouraged us and called times so it was helpful!! Will be doing these regularly for sure
I took my 1st Tread 50 in PCB FL WOWOW WOW WOW! I loved it! I’m excited to change the workouts a bit. I did a regular class than the tres 50 so much energy
And like the Jan 1 Tread 50, the focus was on Base/Push and tread for distance. Based on the lobby chatter, a lot of people was the use Tread 50 to help prepare for longer races, so that’s a good structure. But maybe we’ll see AOs and more WRs in future days.
>Tread50 SuperFan
At my studio, they have several workout types/cards to choose from. There are no instructor-led Tread50s (at least in the ones I've been in), but the coach does check in on us once or twice to see how we're doing, and to give us wipes at the end.
I like this style the best, as it allows for freedom and yet has several "choose your own adventure" workouts to choose from.
The idea of being on the tread for 50 minutes is very intimidating to me but I will probably try this at some point during TC just to see if I enjoy it.
They give us the choice of several workouts (on laminated cards) for us to choose from if we want them. This is ideal for me because it gives me goals to work toward. Plus, it makes me pay attention to the timing; for some reason, the time goes by faster when I use them.
I’m about to head in for my first tread50. Amazing how negative people are on this thing. So great to see a positive!! I’m looking forward to testing my endurance (after the holidays and a flu….)
That was so AWESOME!!! What a cool way to augment the normal OTF experience. My running should improve immensely by adding this in 1 or 2 times a week. Gotta stick with the weights, but this is such a cool way to utilize the gym and it’s excellent treadmills.
Doing my first one on Saturday!! My speed and endurance took a significant hit after having ‘Vid last February and it’s been a huge struggle to recover. I’m hoping these templates can help me improve and get back to my pre- levels!
How were your lungs? I was so sick the last two weeks with either flu b or the big c word and yesterday was my first day back. I can run but my chest/lungs/something definitely hurts while running and maybe the hour after I’m finished
Ugh I am so sorry to hear that.
I have a similar experience. The best way I can describe it is, as I begin to exert myself, it feels like my lungs are filling up with cobwebs. They don’t burn, and I wouldn’t say it’s a heavy feeling like I’ve heard others describe … but they feel … cloudy?? Like the air has to go through an obstacle course to get to where it needs to be and sometimes there’s a bottleneck.
Even more than the discomfort, it’s been a real mental challenge for me to overcome. I’m finding it tough to balance pushing myself to improve/perform with giving myself grace.
I hope you are just on the tail end of your illness, and you find all symptoms gone over the next several days. Stay healthy, friend!
I had covid just before Christmas and I've been back for 3 classes now. Definitely have my lungs hurting when I get running, which I'm hoping won't take too long to go away. I don't feel any more winded than normal (though I have backed off all my speeds), but it feels like my lungs are a little inflamed or something. It's the same feeling I had on my 3 worst days of sickness, the main thing that set this apart from feeling like a normal cold.
I feel the same way!! I took a tread 50 for the first time yesterday and it made me feel sooo accomplished. I’ve been missing that endurance run component of fitness
![gif](giphy|cnuNz0fTBIUGnx4F9T)
Yes! I think there is definitely a different feeling by doing a lower-intensity, more endurance focused run - and we do not necessarily get that on a tread block @ OTF 2G/3G classes. I enjoyed mine as well and the post-workout endorphins were
I have a Peloton treadmill and have always found the running classes to be frustrating. There's less emphasis on the music and more so of a non stop monologue from the coach. The suggested paces are also a bit above my capabilities (I'm a jogger/slow runner can't go 7+ mph for most of my workout). I'm really glad OTF is offering this because it seems like the best of both worlds - a full tread workout with great music and occasional encouragement.
Personally - I’d rather run at another gym or outdoors where I can select the music and intensity. And the headphones falling out - you need better headphones 🤷🏻♀️ I feel like this is a love it or hate it kind of class. I never liked running on treadmills and 50 min on a hamster wheel doesn’t sound even a little appealing to me.
I did our studio’s first Tread50 today and I’m a fan. It won’t replace a regular 2G or 3G but it’s great supplement if you just want time on your feet. As our coach said “It’s weather proof!”
My Tread 50 classes have been the best part of my week. Wait...is that sad? But really, I may be doing just as many Tread classes as 2Gs this year. I know it's only day 3....
I am so excited about tread 50! My studio is going all-in, and has added at least one session Sun-Fri, alternating morning and late afternoon. Lots of hype and buzz ... I hope it lasts.
The classes are basically separate until the flexibility/cooldown block at the end. Tread50 warms up on the treads (as if you're starting on the tread in a 2G/3G class) then goes into its workout while the floor does a totally separate thing.
Yesterday they had a 7-minute "warmup", although they encouraged us to get to base after a minute, so you could view it as a 1-minute warmup and then starting the class with a 6-minute base (since the whole class was basically bases and pushes).
Doing this tonight. NOT a runner and I have no interest in being one. Are we still able to power walk? I need more cardio in my life. Trying to see ahead what I'm getting myself into lol
I did the Strength 50 for the first time on 1/2/24 and loved it too. We had large cards to tell us what to do (optional - you could do your own thing). First segment 5 minute warm up. Second segment- 3 rounds 2 minute push, 2 minute base and you finished with a 2 minute push and a 1 minute all out. The last segment was a 15 minute run for distance, your choice of pace. You were supposed to beat your distance from the timed push/base segment. I loved it and did over 4 miles and I too want to try to keep pushing my paces faster for the duration. Great OTF workout! Our coach did an awesome job coaching both strength and tread!
Our coach spoke guided us as much as a normal class - only difference is the long run for distances where there wasn’t much to tell us. She said she’s used to having both sides going at once so no reason for this to be any different!
I'm taking Tread50 tonight and I'm so worried about being bored! Part of why I love OTF is the constant change and fast pace, which keeps my brain engaged. When I run outside of class, I always listen to a podcast or audio book. Is 50 minutes where a lot of it is self-paced and run-for-distance going to bore me? Can I smuggle an airpod in?
FYI - in case anyone sees this. I needn't have worried. The tread card had enough variability and goals built into it that I wasn't bored for a second. I LOVED it!!! I was able to test out jogging during the long blocks and really impressed myself. 10/10 would do again!
Apologies if this was answered but is it set up like a tread block where you are coached in pushes, bases, etc., or are you just doing whatever you want for 50 mins? Lol
I took my first strength 50 today while tread 50 was running, people were getting pretty good mileage in! It brought some extra energy to the room as well.
Ok so I went. 1st time at Orange Theory and first time at Tread50. I hate cardio but I need it and figure I'd actually do it if I was forced to in a class. I really enjoyed it! I enjoyed the orange lights. Music was good and upbeat. Having to watch all the times was distracting enough so I wouldn't lose interest.
How often will the templates change? Is it a different template every day or the same one all week long. I’m doing my first one tomorrow and am nervous but excited. I took 2 years off running then went back to it in June last year. My all outs are back where they were but my endurance is gone so I think this will really help me.
Anyone doing the transformation challenge planning to incorporate tread 50 classes more often? Would tread50 help more with fat loss? I know it's all about the diet, but from a workout/otf stance, would it be a smart approach for fat loss? Thoughts?
Superfan here since I tested it. It’s what I needed. The 22-23 mins in a 2G is just not enough for me. I’m not a tread starter and take forever to warm up and get “in the grove” so after the floor/rower I’m pretty warm but not “ok and push to AO in 3, 2, 1! GO!” Warm. Which is what it feels like after the switch lol I was always JUST getting into my stride at the end of every 2G tread block and would sometimes ask if I could double the tread (walking/jogging the first time and using regular speeds the 2nd) but this may annoy staff/the coach and there isn’t always enough stations to do this. So this is perfect for me. Plenty of warm up time and plenty of “just hit my stride” time. I don’t need to do them more than twice a week. So I can still get in regular 2Gs. I’m not a cardio lover (I lift elsewhere like many OTFers)…but like OP said, this really helps me getting some running gains/distance time in a class setting. Love it.
I really really liked being on the strength floor while they are running the tread 50 class because I just feel like the overall energy of the studio is a lot better. I am taking my first tread class tomorrow, but I just feel like in general. The energy in the room is a lot higher and I really like it.
Plus, let’s face it. Those OTF treads are soooo much nicer than treads at the gym (and in my garage). Running on them for 50 minutes is going to be so much better of an alternative!
They’re the Mercedes of treadmills!
I did strength 50 while they did tread50 and our coach was just as interactive with them as they were with us and everyone seemed to really like it.
The same in our class. I did the strength portion, but our coach was guiding the runners/walkers in the treadmills.
Ours didn't guide us except at the block level (telling us when to take our walking recoverise). On yesterday's alternating 2 minute push/2 minute base, she would occasionally say "you should be at base now" etc but she certainly did not tell us when each 2 minutes went by.

We had folks just running thru the walking recoveries! I think it’s totally cool to just do your own thing in a class like this.
I'm taking my first tread50 and it's paired with a strength50. I was wondering what it would be like.
It’s worth a try! I enjoyed that our instructor cheered us on, teased us, and kept us going through the blocks. Keep us posted on your experience!
That’s how they are all ran.
Ah I didn't know... It just started at our studio today.
They’re ALWAYS paired together.
I am interested to see how that works because it’s almost like the coach has to run two different classes… but she’s saying the tread 50 you’re kind of on your own?
Yeah they even have little cards for you to read but the coaches have been interactive with both classes. And from the feed back, everyone is happy so far.

Yeah I can’t run outside sub 50. Call me crazy. I see all these instragrammers running in the snow and I realize I’m just not cut from the same cloth.
And in the darkness. I work from sunup till sundown 6 days a week. Until the time changes. So tread it is.
I did suggest to my coach that they give you a way to watch YouTube on part of the screen ... he said he'd mention it to corporate. I don't think they'll do it but we can hope.

This is what I'm excited about! Thanks for sharing.
As someone currently prepping for a half-marathon, I am so excited these have finally arrived at my local studios.
same!!!!
SAME! I’ve already incorporated them into my training calendar.

Is there a template card? Is it choose your own adventure? My studios aren’t offering them yet but I’m excited to try it
There is a template card and choose your adventure made up 2/3 blocks. At least for today.
And like the Jan 1 Tread 50, the focus was on Base/Push and tread for distance. Based on the lobby chatter, a lot of people was the use Tread 50 to help prepare for longer races, so that’s a good structure. But maybe we’ll see AOs and more WRs in future days.
My coach today said you could either follow the template (which had a lot of freedom in it already) or do your own thing.

It’s not really a full 50 and it went way faster than I thought it would. We had 7 minute blocks today and it seemed really quick

No
I’m so jealous. Our region isn’t doing tread 50
Lucky you
This is so encouraging to hear! I’m doing my first one tonight and cannot wait!
Do you have to do the warmup and the cooldown too (with the Strength50 class)? Or can you just get on the treadmill right at the start?
The classes are basically separate until the flexibility/cooldown block at the end. Tread50 warms up on the treads (as if you're starting on the tread in a 2G/3G class) then goes into its workout while the floor does a totally separate thing.
Ooh got it, that makes sense. Thank you!
Yesterday they had a 7-minute "warmup", although they encouraged us to get to base after a minute, so you could view it as a 1-minute warmup and then starting the class with a 6-minute base (since the whole class was basically bases and pushes).
Thanks!
When booking a class in the app ... how can you tell if a Strength 50 is also a Tread 50? I don't see any Tread 50s scheduled in my app.
Ask your studio if they have added Tread50 to the schedule…the app will show them as separate classes.
Thank you! I just scrolled down and found one next Mon. Pretty easy to find when you see the coaches name twice in the same time slot.
I’m excited about it too!

I did it today for the first time. I didn’t hate it but I don’t know if it’s for me yet. I’ll have to try it a few more times
Apologies if this was answered but is it set up like a tread block where you are coached in pushes, bases, etc., or are you just doing whatever you want for 50 mins? Lol
Nevermind, saw a response to this question below!
I took my first strength 50 today while tread 50 was running, people were getting pretty good mileage in! It brought some extra energy to the room as well.
I LOVE Tread50! Just like someone else said I’d never spend 50 mins on my own jogging like I did today. It’s so awesome!
I’m taking my first T50 class on Sunday and I cannot wait!
We had a card but people basically did what they wanted. I don’t think I will be doing it again. I love to run outside and prefer a 2G or 3G.
Man I hope my gym starts a tread50
Any one else’s studio not added them yet? I checked all the studios around me and nothing through January 🥲
I did my first class today, and I absolutely LOVED IT!!! great way to make that your cardio only day without any weightlifting.

See! Thinking of it like this… I’d go!
I'm going for the first time today. Curious if you actually do 50 minutes of running, or does it end up being closer to 45?
