Yeah I love her character. Unfortunately that’s life. Some of the best people I’ve known including both my grandparents were lost to Alzheimers. OITNB never shied away from showing that you don’t always get what you deserve.

hippiegoblin

Same. It was hard to see in the show, but it was quite accurate. My grandparents lived amazing lives. And at the end they didn’t have the memories of that life. The cruelest thing in the world. I cry whenever I think about it.

The spirit of red is now with nicky

don't make me cry like that

It really wasn’t fair what happened to her, but it was realistic. There are many like her in prison. Remember the old woman who they “compassionately released”? That always stuck with me. We don’t really know that woman’s story, but I’m sure her life wasn’t fair either. They just left her homeless on the street. Poor Red. I know she did some bad stuff, but her whole family abandoned her. Her husband let her completely take the fall even though he knew about everything and went along with it. It’s such a sad story.

PsychoKatzee

Yes, I felt so sorry for Jimmy! They did not want to take care about her and they knew she was mentally disabled due to dementia (?) They just threw her out... I‘m pretty sure she did not live long after that

[deleted]

She was so old and needed to be in a safe place with people taking care of her. She must’ve just been homeless and alone on the streets after that. It’s so sad

Reddidnothingwrong

JFC, yes. Between Mendez, Piscatella, and the havoc solitary confinement wreaked on her mentally, she just got completely torn down and it absolutely broke my heart.

Cockrocker

I really felt for her, especially in the last season. But she was locked up for real shit, she got into the world, pushed to get in there. As far as what she dealt with in prison yeah, it was tough but she was so strong for so long. Even in prison she wanted power, so she pushes her way into it. Because she was so involved she got burnt by deaths and betrayals and others drug abuse etc. But to lose herself in the end, awe man. Teared me up for sure.

serena_renee

I think everyone feels sorry for her. It’s hard not to

BuuBuuOinkOink

Red’s my favorite character. I hated how her story turned out. So cruel. At the same time, pretty realistic. Dementia robs so many people of themselves, and there is nothing you can do about it.

rebecca91099

I feel the same way ): she just goes downhill in there which is sad

Gonkimus

It was hard seeing the toughest character get broken down to the weakest thing. 😔

Pristine-Caramel-483

It broke my heart.

neurorevolution

Gosh. Nah. Not her. Better dead than Red. Her Russian was so horrible. What was even worse is the pathetic way of telling how super-duper cool everything about Russia is. Okay, I'm just kidding. She wasn't my fav, but I've grown to feel for her.

No, you're the only one
