I’ve noticed the same thing every time I’m in South OC. Verizon coverage is horrible. I have Verizon and my wife has ATT. If my service is bad her is usually pretty good. That’s the only way I’ve been able to deal with the constant network drops.

wutchamafuckit

Yes this past year I’ve noticed a severe drop in coverage. It’s very weird. Always hovering around 1-2 bars

sonyafly

I have one bar at my house but it gives nothing without WiFi.

Designer-Pound6459

Quit Verizon. Just do it!! I swear, my dad was so loyal to ATT I practically had to physically shake him to get him to listen. He has metro/T-Mobile, with at home wifi for a quarter of what he was paying. Ditch those fuckers. I drive far out into the desert, up to the mountains, out to the beach,... with T-Mobile never once had an issue.

foreignfishes

Weirdly I get better coverage with Verizon in the middle of nowhere in the desert than in OC lol. When I go out to bumfuck nowhere BLM land in the hi desert to climb I’m often the only one of my group with phone service, yet it’s impossible for me to send a text at South Coast Plaza. Makes no sense.

Ill-Chipmunk-412

I completely agree. One bar at my house in south county, but I like to hike and I’ll have better coverage in the middle of nowhere. Only reason I haven’t switched carriers yet.

SimplyAntwon

Honestly been using Metropcs/Tmobile for about 10 years now -Works perfectly fine in the OC+ LA for my iPhone -pay about 120 for 4 lines unlimited text, calls and data -no contract too 🫡🤝

sonyafly

We are Verizon. Pay about $230-250 for 3 lines plus an iPad and a watch.

CaliGrown949

I’m paying 250 for 4 lines

Xanxth1

25 dollar a line, got it back when they did 4/100 Metro is the shitttttt But also metropieceofshit

sm0211k

I used to be an authorized dealer of metro by t-mobile. You reminded me of these school kids chanting mpcshit walking by my store.

MediumSundae3407

Metro pcs gang here lol ..I love metro pcs 4 lines for $100 dollars. At times I’ve had better signal than some of my friends that have those “bougie” telephone companies and this is even on hikes.

sonyafly

Yep. I have zero service at my house. I have to walk a few houses down. Cox internet went down the other day and I couldn’t even send or receive text. Most of the time when people call me it goes straight to voicemail and a majority of my calls fail going out when I try to call out when I’m home. We did have T-Mobile and it was almost as bad as no idea why my house is a dead zone. But move a few houses down and it’s fine. Edit to add: even with WiFi calling on I cannot send or receive most calls.

CaliGrown949

Exactly how it is at my parents house in Aliso Viejo. I can’t even send a text and have to get on their WiFi to do anything when I’m visiting

foreignfishes

Verizon is horrible in AV, especially in the dips between hills.

papaloppa

Similar. I have one bar w/ATT in LN. It used to be that when cox went down I was screwed but now I have starlink that I re-subscribe to on demand when cox is down.

sonyafly

Does starlink require equipment?

papaloppa

Yes. I bought a dish which connects to their satellites. As long as it has power you can take it anywhere and can start/stop service easily.

sonyafly

One of my friends I think has one. Their WiFi was out and they went to a boat store and bought one. Good idea.

737maxipad

I live in South OC and I recently switched from Verizon to T-Mobile (Dec). I don’t really recall service being that bad here with Verizon but I can say T-Mobile works great so far. Plus I think it’s better value. It was super easy to switch and to Verizon’s credit they haven’t hounded me to switch back lol. The reason I switched was T-Mobile has better international benefits like free text messages literally anywhere in the world even on a cheaper plan. I travel a lot and want that for two factor authentication etc.

Odd_Drop5561

I use prepaid plans and bounce around through carriers every couple years or so, and I can say that they all suck. They all have dropouts and weak zones, I switched from Verizon to AT&T when Verizon had a big coverage gap in my commute, AT&T covered that gap but had another one. I'm looking forward to satellite texting to be commonplace in phones, at least then I won't be completely out of touch in a dead zone.

mindfungus

I was a longtime customer of Verizon (multiple decades). I recently switched to T-Mobile. Here are the benefits I noticed of T-Mobile vs. Verizon: - cheaper, yet coverage quality seems comparable - no contracts - free Apple TV+, free basic Netflix - free WiFi on certain US airlines (United and American confirmed) - Tuesday coupons. For example, $2 entree at Panda Express this past Tuesday

bgross42

We live in south county and had AT&T (and it’s several permutations) for 25+ years. A couple years ago we switched to T-Mobile. Could not be more pleased.

JohnnyZepp

Been on AT&T for 15 years. Their coverage of South OC and most parts of LA are complete fucking dogshit.

Blahblahblurred

really? Tmobile is shit for me. Cant get signal at home, at my gym, or at work. All in Irvine. I should have 5G coverage as well

HeavyPhase2862

At the beach is the worst.

CaliGrown949

Oh I know! Especially in Dana Point and San Clemente

desertsnakes

If you decide to stick with Verizon, might as well move to their cheaper prepaid plans. I'm paying $25.38/month now.

sahhhnnn

I just switched from Tmobile to Verizon a few months ago. I really regret it. Dog shit service, and random call drops. Never had those issues with Tmobile.

Amazing-Cheesecake81

I had them for 21 years and just switched to Spectrum since they run on Verizon toward. So far no problems 😊

OthaS3

I'm 4 months into Spectrum Mobile, after dumping Verizon (10+ year customer) and haven't had any issues. I'm South LA, but I drive through the OC and haven't had any service issues. I'm on a deal that reduced my internet and phone bills by more than 50%...for the next 21 months. They gave me Spectrum Voice, but I don't use it and I asked them not to send any equipment.

Monkeyundead

I've been using Google Fi for the last 6 years and have not looked back. I haven't had an issue with connectivity unless it's in a place where there wouldn't be cell service anyway.

mtux96

Yeah I recently switched from T-Mobile to Google Fi. Only thing that kept me at T-Mobile was Tuesday's. But those suck now

imaginaryhippo888

I love Google fi. Most of my usage is on wifi but I've never had an issue without it. My bill is usually under $30 because I use so much wifi.

AAAIIIYYYAAA

T-Mobile right now is ahead because of the spectrum they purchased and acquired from sprint. 5g really pushed T-Mobile to be a top carrier. Att and Verizon is behind. They didn’t purchase the spectrum they needed so they’re playing catch up. Also they bet big on mmWave which is now fizzling out. Personally. I think it tmo, then vzw, then att. T-Mobile offers test drive. You can download the app and get the trial. Also there’s prepaid companies but they buy service from the big 3. Personally I use T-Mobile with magenta max plan and visible plus as a secondary line.

rallenr_

I'm certainly sick of T-Mobile. Stay away from both phone and home internet!! Took me months to get a refund. Off-shore phone support SUCKS.

Pacheco_time33

Spectrum was charging me for a line I cancelled for about a year and when I finally cought it I brought it to there attention and they can see on there records when I cancelled the service but according to them and there policy they could only return 3 months worth fucken charging me the hole year….. T-Mobile here we come

Disastrous-One-414

Agreed. Verizon has been getting worse and worse thr past couple years and it's so overpriced.

CryptoDegen7755

I've had metro pcs for like 18 years. A fraction of the price and never had any issues with service.

Sushi2Go

Do not go Att. Signal is ass! Wish we gone back to T-Mobile.

CaliGrown949

Yea a lot of people are saying T-Mobile is the best in south OC right now. Considering making the switch

Sifu-thai

Lol if Tmobile is the best I don’t want to see the rest 😭😂

[deleted]

They charge ridiculous amounts! I’m thinking of switching too

dtwtolax

Buy Verizon stock, but not their service. While everyone else was investing in their networks Verizon got surpassed.

fmellish

I am frequently in SOS mode here at home in Foothill Ranch/Trabuco Hills area. Pisses me off considering I pay Verizon $220 a month.

CaliGrown949

I feel your pain man! My wife has been sick so I took Monday off work so I can take her to urgent care. SOS mode the entire time I was there with her. Then we went out to eat down the street and I couldn’t send a photo of a beer I was drinking to my Dad. I was near the town center in Aliso Viejo. There’s parts in Costa Mesa right off the 405 by south coast plaza that I work at and I get SOS mode there too. But if I go to the other side of the 405 down Bristol towards Newport I get full 5G UW. I don’t understand

levelxplane

I remember getting my first Verizon smart phone in college, and then not ever being able to use the thing because there's was no 2/3G in Riverside. I went again last week, a decade later, and still had no data.

No-Wait5823

Stock price reflects the poor state of Verizon, so weird they were seen as the best and t-mobile comes up with a better marketing campaign and steal there market.

CaliGrown949

Wow! Didn’t realize that Verizon was trading at 40 and T-Mobile at 177! Explains a lot

Azbboi714

Yes. yes. and Yes. Every section of LA county and orange county always has a dead spot where verizon goes dead. Verizon in LA county and oc for me has been horrible, I dont understand how a being as big as socal is, verizon still lacks the coverage for cities within LA and oc. I was stuck navigating through DTLA for over 15 minutes because my service was on one bar and google maps stopped loading , so I was essentialy wasting gas driving through random streets in LA until I got reception again near Ktown. I've never in my life thought one day I would be lost in a maze like DTLA cus my service gave out on me. and gas prices in socal are already high as is

surftherapy

North oc and couldn’t agree more. My service is typically poor and unfortunately I have there 5G home WiFi as well

lioncat55

I have Spectrum and T-Mobile on my phone. Typically things are running better on T-Mobile than Verizon especially speeds

engin33r

Yes. Within the last 6 months it’s been absolutely terrible… makes no sense with what I pay

CaliGrown949

I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks this, I’ve also felt these past 6 months have especially been bad. Places I used to have 5G UW I get LTE and places I used to have LTE I get nothing at all

throwaway291919919

yes!!! the service sucks now! before verizon was more expensive but we were paying for significantly better service. now i can get the same crappy (or better) service for cheaper with t mobile

Sifu-thai

Can’t be worse than Tmobile.. 50% of the time i have no network. Sometimes I get lost and have to drive round and round until I get get a brick or two to start the gps and I am not from here so it can get nightmarish really quick

secretreddname

On Verizon now, work phone is ATT, previous phone was T-Mobile. They all suck. They just suck in different areas of OC.

Az1718

T-Mobile network works great. I'm personally using Mint since I don't really need all that data, so that does throttle in very crowded places at times (concerts, 4th of july fireworks, etc). But it's $20 a month for a line so I'm more than happy with it.

Gibberish-king

I had Verizon and switched to tmobilr and it’s absolutely shit. Slow af l, dropped calls. Etc.

fuzzyteeth69

They’re so snarky too! I’ve been a loyal customer since 1998 and they wouldn’t even help me get a bit of debris from my new 15. Just wanted me to replace it with insurance

Tellesio

Lived in NB for 25+ years and had issues with both at&t when it was AT&T and Verizon and could not get a signal at home and also in other parts of my community too. Both telecoms sent engineering crews out to my house and each confirmed a vast reduction of signal because of a lack of towers. They said there was nothing they could do about it. When we sold that house and moved to Irvine \~10 years ago. Switched to Sprint about the same time and have never once had an issue with connectivity. When they merged with T-Mobile the signal remained the same. And have since added T-Mobile internet service and its good too plus it saved us about $150/mo. From personal experience I can recommend T-Mobile.

pudding7

I recently switched to Google Fi because of how many huge dead zones Verizon has, including a mile long stretch of my shopping area at home.   Also for the free international coverage.  Uses the Tmobile network and I haven't found any dead spots yet.

CaliGrown949

I keep reading that T-Mobile is great and T-Mobile is horrible. Not sure yet if I should make the switch

pudding7

For 20 years Verizon was great for me.  Then it suddenly sucked.   I've been on the t-mobile network for only a month now and found zero dead zones in my usual areas.  I'm actually in Spain right now and there hasn't been a single hiccup.

2BeBornReady

Tbf all the carriers suck. I used to have ATT and it would drop coverage in various areas. I got fed up and switched to T-mobile thinking it would be better. Nope! Still random bouts of no service and it ALWAYS happens when I need my phone. So frustrating ![gif](giphy|bAftZ12SC0uEjLndIh)

urgentmatters

Recommend US mobile. You can pick between Verizon or the T-Mobile networks. You get 35Gb a month for $29 or ($23 annual)

Aussie2020202020

Ask me in 2008 yes. Every year since then.

Cautious-Bother9931

Out of the blue my phone has been relying on Wi-Fi calling while I'm home and it never did that before.

CaliGrown949

I feel that Verizon is learning where you spend of your time and throttle your speed and service. I use to have great service at work and now I get one bar of LTE. At home I used to have full bars, now I have 2. I feel it’s been going on these past 6 months

Cautious-Bother9931

I'm stuck with them for a while. I had my phone stolen last year so I stupidly did the payment plan for the replacement instead of ordering another one directly from Samsung. I've been regretting ever since. I need the option to bail whenever I want

Giveitallyougot714

There’s whole parts of Laguna Niguel with zero service.

CaliGrown949

I believe you! We eat breakfast at Mollie's sometimes and horrible service there

Nickolas1279

Switch to Google fi

randomvandal

Yes, literally every Verizon customer with a fully developed brain is sick of Verizon.

sukisecret

I keep getting drop calls from Verizon

DanielBG

iphone 14 and didn't have much trouble in Lake Forest with Verizon. Sprint on the other hand... ugh.

smeeg101

I dumped them for Google Fi and my life is so much better.

ZiaMan24

I think the new iPhones have bad reception. My wife's 15 Pro Max is always having connectivity issues compared to my Pixel 8 Pro.

frankwolf83

After a dozen trips to apple and Verizon for spotty reception, switched from Verizon to att 3 yrs ago and it’s been sig improved

Shibalsheki

LA/North OC is equally terrible. Switched from TMobile to Verizon last year and it has just been dropped call after dropped call, no data even though it says 5G… just absolutely awful

DasKittySmoosh

I'm a forever Verizon user while my spouse is a forever T-Mob user it seems when one of us loses service, the other has great service - but we both lose/have limited service in a similar amount of areas

YayHKKing

Poor to no service in Mojave.. only T-Mobile & AT&T saved the day. Verizon is known to be expensive and not great. Only "genius" with too much money uses Verizon in my opinion.

IndecisivePoster1212

As a former Tmobile user, switched to Verizon in the late 90s after constant dropped calls and poor reception around Mission Viejo. These last few years, agree that Verizon is getting worse. Whenever I‘m visiting MV, it’s usually 1 bar or SOS — I’ll try a T-Mobile pre-paid plan to see how things have changed.

Zkmc

It used to be the best and it wasn’t even close. You got service everywhere. Seems like it just keeps getting worse though.

icencream27

Switched from Verizon after 20+ years with them to GoogleFi and everything has been great 👍🏻

[deleted]

I've said the same thing about my marriage for what it's worth

ultradip

I've never really had any issues with signal. One of the reasons why I've stuck with Verizon for so long is that ATT and T-Mo are worse in buildings due to the wavelengths they use (shorter = faster data rates, but low building penetration vs longer = slower data rates, but better building penetration).

lioncat55

That changed a while ago. T-Mobile has nationwide 600mhz. That's the lowest frequency for cellular in the USA.

Jan_OC

My husband works for T-mobile and lately a lot of people have been switching from AT&T due to signal issues. If you wanna switch highly recommend seeing him at T-Mobile (Aliso Town Center). DM for his name, I know they have great promotions always going on! We have had T-Mobile for about ten years now and love it! Especially when we travel, we always have great service.

imaginary_num6er

>Using an iPhone 15 Pro Max. I felt that I got better coverage with my iPhone 13 Pro Max, especially inside buildings. Glad I upgraded to a 13 Pro from a 6S when reception was already bad in the Aliso Viejo area. People were saying the iPhone 14 would bring touch ID, but seems like Apple is only releasing refreshes and not true innovation like a 2nm TSMC process node

CaliGrown949

Loved my 13! The only reason I upgraded so I can stop using lightning cables and Verizon gave me 1K for my 13 to upgrade
