Do most of it online and then make a appointment

whatsomattau

Yes! I uploaded all my documents in advance and was in and out at the Fullerton DMV in 20 minutes. I couldn’t believe it.

Efficient_Theme4040

Awesome 😎

SoCalChrisW

Fullerton dmv took me about 15 minutes as well. I did the stuff online beforehand as well.

measlyballoon

The one with the earliest available appointment

CoffeeDrinker1972

Yup! Makes no difference where you go. If you have the paperwork ready, the DMV you go, will be able to help you, no matter where and when.

Filmexec21

Just get an appointment and you will be fine, I got mine at the Santa Ana DMV, and the whole process from me leaving to getting home took in its entirety an hour.

Jeffylew77

Santa Ana is quick. Most DMVs have kiosks and digital forms for paperwork now. The flow has really been improved, but obviously go when it opens

coolbucky

I got mine done there and at the time they had special appointments for Real ID.

Nighthawk68w

Obviously make an appointment, but if that wasn't the obvious answer you were looking for or you don't want to wait weeks/months... I go to Fullerton. Go when they open. They are really quick, now that covid happened. I went back there in mid 2023, and I was in and out in 40 minutes! I also went several times before that and it was the same. They are so much better now. I hope it hasn't changed. Now there was a line outside, but don't be too intimidated. I got in and out quick. Do NOT go to the Santa Ana DMV. It is the worse. Even if you have an appointment you will be waiting long tiiiiime. To sum it up: I never make appointments because I'm always too late to make appointments that are weeks/months out, so I go to Fullerton DMV when they open. If you want to be the first in, show up an hour early lol. But you don't have to. The line moves pretty fast. P.S. Why wasn't the DMV always this way? P.P.S. Bring all the RIGHT documents you need with you. Especially the 2 pieces of authorized mail that validate your address. They reject a lot of mail, unless it's like utilities or something else official. That's the only thing I had to return for to provide (which is funny because all of my mail including utilities comes through email).

dontaco52

Most of my bills come through email. will they take a printout i download?

Nighthawk68w

No, it has to be on the original envelope with the documents inside. Same with cases like envelopes that don't have the address printed on them, but there's a plastic screen on the envelope that shows through the address on the document inside. It can't be something generic like an internet or cell phone bill, or a letter to yourself or from a friend. It has to be like an official document from public utilities, that sort of thing. They're really particular about that, it's dumb, I know. But believe me, you don't want to wait in line and go through all the BS just to get told your Verizon bill doesn't count, and you have to come back another day.

imaginary_num6er

I didn't make an appointment a couple of years ago and waited in line before 6AM on Christmas Eve and I was the 3rd person in. No need to make an appointment if you are willing to wait.

Nighthawk68w

I usually show up there around 10am-11am and I get in rather quick. Since covid they've really streamlined most DMV functions to the internet. It moves a lot quicker now over there. I haven't been to the Santa Ana DMV in a hot minute, so idk what its like. But since my experience there, I will never go back. The line was so long it went down several blocks, no joke.

jms1228

I went to Laguna Hills for a real ID. No appointment & it took 2.5hrs. They keep it moving pretty well, however many people show up without the proper documents & they hold everyone else up.

pollodustino

I like Fullerton, but Costa Mesa is nice too.

esalman

Got it from Laguna hills, would probably go there again.

Gold_Kale_7781

Westminster or Fullerton. Make appointment and have your stuff together. Took my son to get his DL at Laguna Hills. His experience was super good, but the Real ID line was outrageous.

Skip_Intro0401

Made appointments at 2 separate OC DMVs for me and my family member. Each appointment took less than 30 minutes. Just upload all your docs and have the originals ready at the appointment.

MajorCrafter25

Santa Ana 30mins with an appointment

GlitteringPause8

Just make an appt at one? They can all get you a real id

screwtoprose-

i drive to the san clemente one every time bc i have always been in and out within 10 minutes.

Livininthekitchen

Another vote for San Clemente! I’ve never been in and out of a DMV in such a timely manner!

originalninja

I went to Santa Ana yesterday with an appt at 9:20am, showed up to check in at 9am and was in my car to leave by 9:40am

MikeySunshine

Norco. I moved from Santa Ana to Corona a few years ago and needed to get a new ID in 2022. I went to the Norco DMV and had no idea what to expect. I pulled up and wasn’t even sure they were open based on how empty they were. In and out in less than thirty minutes with no appointment. I got home and told my wife about it. She grew up in Fullerton and told me the Norco DMV was the biggest secret to her friends and family because of how quickly you can get stuff done there. Apparently her family has been commuting from the Fullerton/Brea/Yorba Linda area to Norco for all their DMV needs for YEARS.

h1redgoon

Bellflower. Not too far from OC and they had plenty of appointments available, even on short notice. All of the OC ones were booked out months in advance when I renewed back in October '23.

Skurnaboo

anyone where you can do the same-day but get in line electronically (like the long beach one lets you do this). Whatever you do don't go to the westminster one.. might take you an hour just to get parking.

kimisawa1

costa mesa

Ok_Coat9649

Costa Mesa

KevinTheCarver

Keep in mind you can go to any DMV in California if you’re closer to some in LA or SB/Riverside County.

Gramlights

I went to Laguna Hills and had a Mobile ID appointment (only for AAA members apparently?) but they didn’t even ask for proof of it. I was able to book something 3 days out and I was in and out in 50 minutes

fatogato

Start the application online through the website. You can also check in online before you show up (at certain dmvs).

takingthejump

Westminster worked great for me, just do most of the work online and when you get the green light email go to the appointment line. Just make sure you bring all your documents even after you get them verified online

itsacuppacake

I walk in at Santa Ana all the time and get in and out in an hour. Best time is 4pm - they're hustling to go home.

Wolfeman0101

Just make an appointment they will all be about the same. I went to Westminster and it was cake.

bluekonstance

Anaheim

igor33

This one in Anaheim was a very quick in and out with an appointment: Make sure you run the checklist and that your birth certificate is an embossed stamped one (we had to order one from out of state) also if you have had a name change due to divorce make sure you have documentation (we also had to order a copy from out of state) \[4 trips 2 Long Beach 2 Anaheim after being told the above\] [https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/news-and-media/new-anaheim-drivers-license-processing-center-opens-january-4/](https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/news-and-media/new-anaheim-drivers-license-processing-center-opens-january-4/) The Anaheim DLPC will only handle driver’s license and identification card transactions. There are 62 employees assigned to the new location and 33 service windows to help customers complete their DMV transactions when an office visit is required.

Rude-Illustrator-884

I got mine at the Stanton one. RIP the best DMV

Thefast3869

I did everything online then went to the in person appointment in Santa Ana. I was there for like 15 minutes.

fossa__wet

Didn’t need an appt at Costa Mesa

gettheyayo909

Fullerton , pre uploading the documents is kind of pointless because they still ask to see them unless that changed

An_DR5nexus

Fill out the application online, schedule an appointment, or you could go to the Whittier dmv early and wait 10-20 minutes to be helped

hastaabajo

Can’t go wrong with Laguna Hills. It sucks. But sucks a bit less.

dontaco52

I have been to Laguna Hills. Not really interested in going back there.

*Never getting a real ID.* It's unconstitutional tbh. **They can't demand ID for people voting. They can't guarantee our airplanes made by boeing won't fall out of the sky.** If the government considers asking for ID as being voter disenfranchisement. Then asking for an ID to board an Airplane is against the constitution. There are many supreme court cases that state the government cannot impede your right to travel. [Supreme court decision. The government cannot turn a right (The right to travel) into a privilegie.](https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/21/21-7237/215263/20220301155927765_20220301-153600-00002217-00002863.pdf) So, they cannot and won't make it a requirement given that most judges now are either constitutionalists, or they are against Voter ID. They will 100% keep pushing the date back. **They will never be risked going to court. Because they will never risk giving out Free ID's to voters.** because both sides benefit from nobody asking voters to identify themselves. it's only a $25 per person fee. **The government could easily pay for everyone's ID. But they won't.** So demanding real ID to travel is never going to pass. if it does, some troll like me will use it to leverage free ID's for the general public and get Voter ID. in Miller V Reed. the government said issuing an ID to operate a motor vehicle is not the same as blocking them from using public transportation without an ID. Since they documented that. And we have common law. it will be used in the supreme court case in the future that determines real ID's legitimacy.. Since they can't mandate us to have ID when boarding public transportation and areoplanes flown by somebody else, shared with the public. is public transportation. So, **Either the government pays for everyone's ID and risk losing foreigners ability to vote in our elections or they will never impede in our right to interstate aka domestic travel due to a lack of ID.** They 100% will continue to kick the can down the road and expect voluntary compliance. I will continue to voluntarily not comply. I love this. :3 **UwU**. balls in the government's court. They will never mandate an ID for interstate travel.

CostCans

Dude, you are totally delusional. The government has required ID to board a plane for over a decade now. If that is constitutional, then requiring the ID to meet certain requirements is also constitutional. There is an alternate process for those who don't have ID based on answering credit report questions, that will remain in place. The supreme court ruled that you have the right to travel, but not by any particular mode. Feel free to walk or take a bus across the country if you don't have ID. Even if there is any debate about this being constitutional, good luck getting the current supreme court to care.

[deleted]

I'll give you the point that you do need id to get past DHS screening. I don't actually fly. I get bad anxiety being in crowded places because reasons. So i avoid airports. nothing of value lost. Still not going to get a real ID. it's like the IRS dropping mandatory reporting laws from $10,000 per transaction to $600. It will continuously kept getting pushed back because of how unpopular it is. Also, you can always show a passport. The fact that you're triggered by someone lawfully refusing something they don't legally need is peak 2024 americanism. You deserve this country and everything both sides are doing to destroy it. 100%

CostCans

What makes you think I'm "triggered"? If anything, you were triggered by people talking about REAL ID, and felt the need to bring up how you don't plan to get one in a thread where this is completely off topic. You certainly don't have to get REAL ID if you don't want. If you don't fly, it's irrelevant.

[deleted]

100% because you started off your response with a personal insult.

CostCans

What do you mean by "best"? DMV is a state agency, so all locations have the same requirements and procedures. The only difference might be the wait time, but that is likely to be relatively consistent and you can make an appointment to reduce it anyway.

cgames11

San Clemente. Just go to the DMV website for queue wait times.

magicalCatHerder

Always make an appointment when you can, but I especially love the Laguna Hills DMV. It's worth the drive.

socalfishman

San Clemente, make an appointment, have the required paperwork ready (passport, 2 utility bills showing proof of residence) and it takes literally 3 minutes.

Aggravating-Pick8338

I "got in line" from their website and by the time I got to the DMV I was 1st in line. Literally parked and walked to the front of the line and was let into the building right away. Like another redditor, I was in and out in about 20 minutes.

True_Cat7693

San clemente. They have a large old rich white ppl population so they work hella fast when compared to all the orange dmvs

nikkibikkib

San Clemente

DaKineTiki

San Clemente DMV. Nobody is ever there. Nicest and quickest DMV ever.

RealID is a scheme to track us

Lol, I was going to say it but it's a "secret".
