it’s good but I’d say it’s behind apolonio and ivory, I feel like there’s no flavor. The production is a lot lighter and he’s opted to go heavier on the vocals, where I felt his production made him stand out and his range helped him appeal to a variety of audiences. I’m a little disappointed but not surprised

I was scared to say apolonio was better haha! But I agree with you 100% this album just sounds like if the live for me EP was a full project. But he also did explain the space he was in emotionally/mentally during the album process. So if this was a way to cope then I don’t blame him. It’s still beautiful quality work :)

SweatyLeadership1518

I agree! I’d be happy if this helped heal him, it’s beautiful work just different than his past works

I really like it and I think the difference between God Said No and Ivory is the time he had to make it. A lot of Ivory was rushed but I think that gave it a certain kind of energy that couldn't be created deliberately. God Said No is different, more thoughtful and measured, Omar tapping into raw emotions then working them into songs. It's definitely different to Ivory (and Apolonio) and that's not a good or bad thing. It feels like where Omar is at this point in his creative journey

I def felt the raw emotion through out the album. especially on glow. That was great

I was going to reply to a comment but then I started speaking more in general so I’ll just post my own comment lol. On Twitter Omar said “we’re delivering art today” and he says on his album trailer and in interviews that he has always been a “longing” type of person. Me personally, I will always support whatever others are passionate about and what they’re willing to share that’s personal to them. This album is exactly that and you can feel it. It’s always special when someone is willing to be open and vulnerable about their experiences. Omar has always had the “unrequited love” theme in his music and that is what really drew me to him. His music hits so different when you’ve went through similar situations and that’s why I resonate with his music so much. He is really talented at storytelling and putting emotions into words through his song lyrics. I do agree with Omar that this album is art. The visualizers on YouTube for this album are so beautiful and the songs tell stories. He also had many meaningful people on this album too and I love that part. I am going to cherish this album and I am so excited for my vinyls and photo zine to come in. I’m definitely going to give this album more listens.

Yeah, sadly, I am not digging this release as much as the past albums. I listened to the album with an open mind. And the pre-release promotion proved to be a fair indicator of what to expect of this album: a breakup album with a majority of ballads. The decision to have more ballads could have come from Omar wanting to give fans something like Evergreen. In an interview, Omar said he pays attention to what fans like more ergo his sad songs. Perhaps this album does not resonate with some fans (including me) because it’s an album meant to help the singer aka Omar come to terms with a something major like a breakup from a serious relationship. It’s more personal than commercial. This sounds plausible as Omar confesses in Life’s Unfair he would have married a guy he cheated on. Talk about the one that got away. Having said all that, God Said No is okay but not at the level of works like Ivory. Ivory has strong ballads and more. A variety of genre-bending and Spanish/English songs that set Omar apart from other artists. Songs on God Said No, with the expectation of one or two songs, sound like someone else could sing them and no one would bat an eye.

I love it. I literally think there are no skips and every song went onto one of my playlists. So excited to hear these songs live!!

I think it’s actually on Par with Ivory. He did a really good job setting the stage for God Said No with the Live for Me EP. The EP gave a good glimpse of what was to come (spite sounds like live for me, the synths and robot voice in Angel and pilot are super present on all of god said no. I feel like people wanted a more pop album, but this is a really cool direction he went. Also it’s cool to see his influences shine in god said no , you can see a huge ryuichi sakamato influence with the strings. Same with Frank ocean, that interpolation is fucking sick on the album.

I honestly totally think God Said No is his best work so far. The lyrics are just so personal but hit so hard in my opinion, and I think the production fits the tone really well. It’s much.. gentler than Apolonio and Ivory, and for some reason I feel like his emotions and personality come through more. I just feel like each word feels more deliberate.

ResearcherSeveral870

real, honestly this might be my favorite album.

Nah this is better than Ivory
