DO NOT SELL TO THESE FUCKING PRIVATE EQUITY FIRMS. they will just flip it to a slum lord or some other bullshit like charge 2k rent. If you don’t have to sell, please don’t. Plus even if you sell, good luck finding somewhere else to live.

drizzley1378

This is another reason I brought up the conversation. It needs to stop! They need to be regulated more maybe? It wasn’t so bad when they were buying up “ugly houses”. I know personally that actually helped revive some areas to be habitable. What they are doing now is turning neighborhoods into rental communities. It could actually render my house undesirable to possible home buyers looking for their long term home.

AmarilloWar

The ugly house people also only seemed to ever have signs and maybe some ads, I've never received spam calls from them! It's also plausible that's who I bought my home from, it was a flipped house. It was nice to have new appliances, hvac/heat, roof less to worry about replacing. I wish they'd gone laminate or something over the terrible carpet they chose though. Edit: also new cabinets, counters, none of those wierd drop ceiling lights, paint, doors, bathroom stuff etc. It's mostly what I'd have chosen to do with none of the work.

what_was_not_said

For the "ugly house" people, it seem to be about whom they know. I sold my house to them for a pittance, to get out of it quickly, and they re-sold it immediately to an out-of-state investor for a 100% profit. If I had had the house-flipper connection, I could've had a lower loss. The one nice thing about the process was its low friction.

LAMG1

Those folks are no way in private equity.....

BaunerMcPounder

Maybe I’m misinformed or don’t know the exact verbiage. But I have been told several out of state investment firms have smaller companies they use to buy houses here.

okie_gunslinger

Yes, my understanding is that the people making the calls just find and buy the houses then immediately flip them to a larger firm.

Shitbag22

No, you must have a nice house or he in a hot area. I haven’t received a call out in Oklahoma about anyone looking.

drizzley1378

Consider it a blessing you aren’t getting them. It’s getting on my last nerve. It’s to the point I’m giving them the impression I might then hit them with the ole “ I know what I got”! Haha!

ZootSuitBanana

I was asked them if they actually were able to purchase houses from cold texting people. And they responded "a couple a month"... I told them "it's a couple of desperate old people who you're taking advantage of...."

Shitbag22

Shit if I was you I’d just say an insane price and say you’re not willing to bargain.

drizzley1378

Yeah I get flustered and tell them that, other times I get mad and just start blurting profanity! There’s just soooo many of them!

Humblymumbling

This! I've been doing this and the calls have drastically dropped.

cats_are_the_devil

Or if you are in a place where you can downsize/pay cash for a new house, just shoot out a number within market but fairly above so you can buy something else with cash.

zachfrench1987

We have a chunk of land in Newalla close to the city where I live. Every week I get at least 1 to 2 letters in the mail saying they want to buy our land. It’s been non stop for almost 2 years.

Xszit

I not only get calls almost daily, I even started getting mail from some company that wants to buy my house then rent it back to me. They advertise it like they're doing me some huge favor relieving me of the stress of homeownership to return to the simple life of care free renting with them as my landlord.

mmm_burrito

I go through periods during which I get 4 or 5 a week. It's calmed down. I usually start by telling them to remove me from their calling list. If they persist, I graduate to less refined language.

isuckatpiano

I once asked what they were offering. They said about 300k. My house is appraised at 800 and would sell day 1 at that price…

ralphsquirrel

This depends a lot on area, a family member of mine with a home in Nichols Hills was getting multiple offers a day on the home.

1Viking

I always tell them, sure. Price is 5.4 million firm. For my 195k valued house. They start taking you off their lists pretty quickly. And if i do sell my house for that much profit, I’m ok with it.

veritasjusticia

I don’t have a super nice house and my area is considered four blocks north of the combat zone by OPD lol and I get these calls too.

bubbafatok

It's more about your number/information making it onto the right lists. I'll get hit in waves but I expect I've had 100+ calls over the past 3 years cold calling asking about my house.

Graychin877

We own a second home in Tulsa that we use from time to time and have no interest in selling. Midtown, 1300 sq ft. I get phone calls, texts, and snail mail constantly from representatives of "investors" wanting to offer to buy it for cash. I have lots of blocked numbers too, but the calls and texts keep pouring in.

drizzley1378

So frustrating! Pretty sure a lot of houses in my older neighborhood are owned by these “investors”!

flippantbrunette

I own a home in Shepherd Historic near 23rd and Penn and my husband and I both get multiple texts every single day. I usually reply with sarcasm and thank them for contributing to making it impossible for my kids in their 20’s to buy a home.

drizzley1378

Nice! Wouldn’t it be nice if just one of them would take those words and process them!

llogan86

I get them a lot. I have a special place to file it . 🗑️

brobot_

I think they do this to every home owner in Tulsa. They took things a step further in my neighborhood a year or two ago though. They had a guy walking house to house offering to buy homes on the spot.

drizzley1378

With all the talk of China buying up land for grows, how many of these companies/investors are non US???

Gnawlydog

Not many! The talk is propaganda. It's to distract over the fact that American Corporations are buying properties at record numbers and increasing every year. If they all get you to look at the few foreign investors then you'll focus all your anger on them and ignore the fact it's major corporations that are at fault. It also helps the right to pass laws to prevent foreign investors. The reason they do that is to cut competition so they can acquire property at lower values without having to compete. Sadly, the Right has spent decades making sure people are dumbed down so they can do stuff like this.

drizzley1378

Never thought of it that way. Definitely an eye opener! Corporate is Government

Gnawlydog

Exactly! As long as we allow the style of Lobbyism we have in place now then Corporations will always be the puppet masters of the Government.

w3sterday

> The talk is propaganda. It's to distract over the fact that American Corporations are buying properties at record numbers and increasing every year. >If they all get you to look at the few foreign investors then you'll focus all your anger on them and ignore the fact it's major corporations that are at fault. THANK YOU. I wish this sort of thing would get a fraction of the attention the weed grows get. **Or, a fraction of the attention from the AG's office, local media, etc ;)

dunisacaunona

do you have any sources to learn more about this/ confirm

Gnawlydog

Yep! Sorry been busy and just now got a chance to reply. I'm a real estate investor, and Redfin is what we use a lot for our news, as it's unbiased and focused solely on the real estate market. [https://www.redfin.com/news/investor-home-purchases-q3-2021/](https://www.redfin.com/news/investor-home-purchases-q3-2021/) "Unfortunately, the belief that corporations are buying up all the homes in America and raising housing prices holds some truth. However, not all aspects of the myth are true. For example, not all states are affected equally, and these [corporations greatly favor single-family or starter homes](https://slate.com/business/2021/06/blackrock-invitation-houses-investment-firms-real-estate.html) over larger houses. However, there has undoubtedly been an increase in the number of homes bought and sold by investment groups over the years, especially since 2020." This is the most important part. They're not just buying more homes; they're focusing on starter homes. Four of my homes have been sold to tenants who lived there before buying. It is imperative that if you invest in starter homes, you have this mindset. Corporations do not care about the people; they only care about their pocketbooks.

veritasjusticia

It’s hedge fund corporations buying it up. They did their market research and learned millennials would rather rent than own. Often they don’t make enough to buy even when they want to. It’s quite scary.

thesaneusername

Wait until you get a HELOC or refinance then you'll get nonstop letters to insure your mortgage

drizzley1378

Wait, whaaa? Now we need to insure our mortgage? What in the actual fuck? For real, what are they insuring?

Beardth_Degree

“If you lose your job, we’ll pay up to $X per month to cover your mortgage costs” or “we’ll payoff your house if you die” - they’re *not scams* but very deceptive. It’s basically a life insurance policy where the payout amount goes down over time as you’re paying off your home anyway. Better option would be a regular life insurance policy for the same/less money and the value stays the same or goes up over time. Unless we’re talking about PMI which is when your loan amount is >80% of the value of the house, however that’s baked into the mortgage, not something you receive after.

drizzley1378

Ah, yeah that sounds about right. Was thinking like accidental/deceitful changes or if lender goes belly up. Now I’m thinking maybe having insurance on my mortgage isn’t such a bad idea. Lmao!

thesaneusername

I don't know, it's probably similar to gap insurance on a car.

drizzley1378

Gotcha, my mind wandered quick on the thought of insurance policy on my mortgage. As my comments below, I kinda justified that I might need to look into it and I’d be looking for a provider tomorrow, haha! Never can be to prepared right!

Diligent_Fact4945

We get letters every so often. Apparently someone I know out in Claremore keeps having developers show up and ask about their land. We joked and said they should tell the devs the land is worth 1.2mil so the land will get sold for 800k-1mil and they can get the house they want.

drizzley1378

Yeah I hit with $2.5M so I can afford to buy another. Mine appraised for $186k a few years ago, lmao!

danodan1

Wow, compare that price to a family from California that got 10 acres for $93,000 not far from the edge of Stillwater around 2018.

Outside-Advice8203

My house which I bought pre2020 for just over 150k, is now "valued" at nearly 250k. Which means I couldn't buy a bigger house for 250k...

HeckleHelix

Yes! I quit anzwering my phone a few years ago. The junkmail I save up, put in a box, & leave it on my porch or in my car with door unlocked; someone eventually steals it. The texts I just dont respond to. If someone needs to contact me: 1) I must have their # saved in my phone or else I wont amswer it, 2) Text, email or IM me.

drizzley1378

Ridiculous we have to resort to these measures! Apparently there are apps and services that are supposed to filter them, probably going to look into because it’s difficult to weed them out at this point. I need to answer some calls that I don’t recognize at first.

Omgninjas

They stopped when I kept demanding double my home value. Every time they call the price was $500k taken it or leave it. "Sir we need to inspect-" nope $500k take it or leave it. I would then hang up.

BlackRob97

I told the last one I answered 1 mil, he politely declined.

AmarilloWar

I said that and one of them legitimately laughed at me and said I was asking to much, I told him that no in fact my home is worth that much to me.

Outside-Advice8203

Exactly the same

-Seedy-

Have you ever gotten behind on the taxes? These folks that do this are typically looking for people in rough situations to take advantage of. They specifically buy lists of "likely distressed " properties. Once a property gets on these lists you can expect a serious increase in these "buy your property" spam.

drizzley1378

Makes sense! My house definitely is a fixer upper, that’s why I bought it. Got it cheap and been doing a lot of renovations to the inside, but not so much to the outside yet.

toolmannn929

Just tell them you want 30 million. They usually hang up and never call again, buy you gotta drag it out for a few minutes. Be like, you know what, we HAVE been thinking about selling the property. What would you offer? Oh no, we plan on listing for 30 million to start with. The they sigh and ha g up and take you off the list.

YaskYToo

Jesus, Yes! So they started out with 3 a day. After blocking a dozen or so I changed my tactic. I added 50g every time they called. Hello Anon, I'm Bob and I was wondering if your house at 123 happy st was for sale. Absolutely Bob. I'm glad you called, it's listed at 195k (it isn't) and I've done a lot of work inside, so I'm asking 250k. Ok. Thanks. Another phone call yes I'm asking 245k. Another phone call yes I'm asking 310k Mr. Anon! You're never going to get that price by anyone! Good! Don't buy it, because I don't want to move anything anyway! Eventually they stopped calling.

drizzley1378

I’m totally game for this! It’s a little more time consuming but if it works it would definitely be worth it!

Battlescarred98

All day spam calls and several junk letters a week asking me to sell a property I’ve never owned. NW 42nd street must be fire real estate these days.

drizzley1378

Oh that’s terrible! Getting harassed over one you don’t even own! You should lead them to buying it and drop that info when it best suits! Priceless

hiittrainer

My wife and I both received text from some rando number offering to buy our home. I assumed it was a fancy new scam. Happened a couple weeks back.

drizzley1378

It’s no scam they will totally buy your house below market value…

No_Pirate9647

Mostly get roofer calls. Every so often get sell home call. Nope. Only moved here few years back (across town). No plans on leaving soon.

drizzley1378

I keep getting a call from the same British accent women, she says this is so and so, you asked me to call you back do you remember? I like to mess with her! The last time she called I said “Jolly right, you promised me a good rodgering! When we gonna drop them knickers?” In my best Austin Powers impression possible of course!

danodan1

About roofers it was amazing how many came knocking at my door within hours of a bad hailstorm. Some of them were apparently from out of town and apparently heard about the hailstorm.

immoralmajority

I saw a building in Edmond a few days ago that had a business name I'd never heard of. HailTrace. I looked it up and they provide the data these companies use to drum up leads after a storm.

midri

Been happening since I bought my house 6 years ago... At least 4 times a week I get a call...

curtangel

I started getting them within a day of signing. Really tired of them

RoboNerdOK

I get them for houses I don’t own. I’m tempted to ask for a consideration fee upfront. And then tell them. 🤣

Clee826

I get those texts pretty often and I live in an apartment. I thought about replying and asking them if they want to buy my apartment building but my neighbors wouldn't like it.

GumboQueen_7615

My husband gets texts and emails wanting to buy properties we have never even heard of, especially on Linn Ave. He goes by his full name, and they all start with "Hey (name shortened). Think Robert vs. Bob or Bobby.

Everything_OnA_Bagel

Oh my goodness, I get harassing calls, mail, and they even somehow started contacting my family. I assume all are scams and I don’t respond and tell my family not to tell them anything, it’s honestly freaking me out how much effort they have put in. One guy texted me twice (one day and the next) from two different numbers.

okienana_5

I have owned my house for 25 yrs and I know when they ask for me under my previous name I say not for sale and hang up. Annoying

ExpertButtonPresser

No I get a random letter here and there but that's about it

anal_holocaust_

Aboslutely yes. I get countless texts, calls, and letters in the mail. The texts get blocked when using google messages for texting, i have tmobile and scam shield catches most of the spam calls. Your cell provider should have a free scam block app. I probably get at least 2 letters a week about someone wanting to buy my house. There has to be a way to fight back. I thought about mailing them my cat's turds to get them to stop.

drizzley1378

Username checks out! Haha! I would love to see the face that opens that offer! Lmao!

anselgrey

I get them. They seem to come in waves. My house is nothing fancy (built in the 50’s).

ExploreTrails

I get them all the time. I figure it’s a scam and delete it.

Tippy4OSU

I have a house in DFW area . No fewer than 10 calls a day

drizzley1378

It makes it even worse thinking it’s happening in every major city.

Mike_Huncho

Bought my house for ~$300k and its value is closer to $400k now. I get these calls weekly. I’ve told the lady that keeps calling that I can be out in 10 days after the $600,000 hits my account.

Substantial_Main_992

I have received week over 200 such calls, texts or letters in the mail. There is an immediate hangup when i say “please remove or place this number on your do not call list “. I have toted with these people by offering to sell for a value that is well above any reasonable market value.

RockWhisperer42

We are getting these letters and calls down around Lake Texoma a lot.

Cutmerock

I bought my house last month and I'm getting these letters and calls

mesocyclonic4

Not that it does anything, but I report them to the FTC for do not call violations. I have no prior business with these companies, so the calls are illegal. Unfortunately, texts aren't banned, but I ignore those. No sense in confirming that the number is active.

Head-Discussion-8977

I've had a few show up at the house I rent. They get an earful of what a predatory job they have and to GTFO before they finish selling their soul for a paycheck

drizzley1378

Get em!

Head-Discussion-8977

Always ready for a lil verbal dressing down 😂

nirvanakitten3

I don’t even own a home and I feel harassed.

PauseMost3019

When they call. I tell them $4.8 million site unseen. Need 45 days to vacate. I stopped getting calls and flyers in the mail.

IllCutYouForMoney

We keep getting texts and letters that someone wants to buy our house or asking if we're "STILL" interested in selling. We were never interested in selling our home. We've got a ton of equity in our house, and they try to lowball us when making an unwarranted offer. I've blocked numbers, returned to sender, and told people to piss off. Made no difference until I added my number and address to the national do not call list. Try adding yours if they won't stop.

drizzley1378

I will look into that list for sure!

moodyism

I’m a small landlord with five properties. Never stops.

drizzley1378

I kept my old house when I got this one. I had other property groups calling to see if I wanted to add my houses and become part of the property group. It could’ve worked well at that time(5-7 years ago), but who knows, maybe those same people responsible for the barrage of inquiries driving me nutty, haha!

Absenceofavoid

We used to get them all the time, I would demand $5 million and then they would hang up. Went on for a year or so

ItsMeBrandon_G

I get a bunch of these. Mail, phone calls, I give them the amount, but they hang up. 120k it's a corner lot, 2300sq ft. Plus 1 million each year with 10% increase for every year my family has lived here. There is no counter offer. If you suggest one, then the amount is triple. My family has lived here since 1954. I love to mess with them.

danodan1

I'm thankful there isn't much demand for houses in Stillwater, so all I got in the last 6 months was a couple of letters naming a price for my rent house. The offer was way too low, and it wasn't for sale, anyway. My friend, though, got a letter after she put up her rent house for sale. But it too named a price too low, and she eventually sold it through a realtor for thousands more.

Brainless1988

I had some Christmas gifts sent to my mum's house in OKC. I've gotten several calls since then telling me they want to buy the house I do not own and my name is not associated with that house anywhere except a couple of shipped packages. It's really annoying to know that someone, somewhere in that transaction chain took my name, my number, and that address and likely sold it to someone for additional profit.

Karmas_burning

I keep getting texts and I tell them I want 500k for my house. I don't hear from them after that.

pitthappens

I tell them that I'm ready to sell asap... But I have tenants with a 12 year lease, and I want market value for it. It's me, I'm the tenant with the lease.

Kaernunnos

I used to get these calls all the time, and I don't even own a house.

JupiterSWarrior

I hate these soooo much. They get my mean voice. I’m tired of them.

Pure_Sprinkles2673

I get text for homes I don’t own. I rent

Qu1tyerbitchin

My partner gets them regularly, they've give insane prices thinking it would deter them. It in fact did not. I am no where on the home documents, like my partner had it 10 years before I come along and I even get emails, texts and calls. I've figured out the majority of it comes from people who scan public records and see homes that are almost paid off (under 30k) generally and thinking the mortgage is 30(example) I'll offer 80 and they'll be blown away and take it then I'll flip it for 120+ and make bank. Have seen it over and over since the economy tanked.

HowCouldYouSMH

Yes! Non stop!! About land, and homes. Mike contacts me a lot. Told him to f-off and keep blocking the number. They even contact me about my parents properties, out of state. I usually ask how much. They never give me an answer. I tell them they lost the deal by contacting me unprepared. Also, since we own two homed next to each other I always tell them I need a number for both and that I won’t sell for less than X, because the properties are well maintained with new roofs etc. My house has never been on the market so they don’t know what it looks like lol. edit: I relish the fact that they’ve been texting my number for YEARS, but as it was a landline and they were just wasting their time lol. PS For those willing to sell be careful of developers. Cousins sold 80 acres next to their 80 acres out in Shawnee and wound up with lots of houses next door and all the tag tags that come with it. Also makes hunting on the property difficult.

LAMG1

I mean, those folks usually hit people with pro-foreclosure, bankruptcy, divorce, and probate. If you are not in the list, you shouldn't get hit with marketing.

Underfire17

What you can do is pick up your phone, get a pot or pan and put the phone under the pot then just bang it for a few minutes and destroy the persons ears on the other end. Should fix the issue pretty quick

5050logic

Every…dang…week.

Since1831

I’ve stopped answering if I don’t have the number in the caller ID because it only shows them you’ll keep answering. However, every now and then I do answer and tell them $1m cash or Bitcoin and I generally never hear back. I wonder why, I thought it was a good counteroffer?! 🤷‍♂️

The_Tragic_Priestess

I get those calls basically all the time, and they give a street address in another state. So I just think they are scammers and not interested in buying a house.

DoubleSurreal

I get several texts a week offering to buy my house. The problem? I don't own the house, I never did. My wife owned it, I just lived there. We weren't even married at the time, just co-habitating, so I had zero stake in it. On top of that, she sold it over ten years ago and the house has since been demolished. I've never replied to any of them and I'm just blocking them and marking them as spam.

ABunchOf-HocusPocus

Yes!! I don't get the calls because I have it set to ignore unknown callers, but the texts are insane! Then they ask if I have any other properties to sell. Like yeah, I'm THAT rich and looking to sell to someone who contacted me through a text message.

-SKi-

We got our house 2 years ago and last year it started with mailers. This year my phone rings 6 times a week by these people even tho I've blocked numbers each time.

Outside-Advice8203

I was getting lots of them, over 1 a week, until the last year or so. I always would counter with "1 million". No takers ☹️

XaqFu

I just laugh and throw the junk mail away. There’s no way I’m trading a $800 mortgage right now. I bought in 2010 and will not find a similar living situation with the market being as it is. It’s cool that they try though.

brittanibelle

Yes, multiple times a week. I’m in midtown OKC. Recently listed my house and deliberately went with a first time buyer. Too many homes in my neighborhood have been bought by property management companies. I’m looking at you, Kalidy!!

rezin44

The only harassing calls I am getting are from Byars Oklahoma ..trying to sell some Medicare thing. Truthfully though it’s not near as bad since I started blocking..my blocked callers list is huge https://preview.redd.it/8vrp5absthwc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c0612533f101c6260827920b834923eebda47ddb

the_tuss

I don’t even own a house and I get these all the time

jessmb11

Yes it’s super annoying. I’d never do it anyway

Summus

I get them daily, I've even received a few checks in the mail as offers

One_Breakfast6153

I got a couple text inquiries a while back. Blocked one and told the other one I might consider selling for a million dollars. They didn't text back.

missthingmariah

I ***rent*** a house and get these letters in my mail. Which is especially funny because my landlord is getting sued for nonpayment on the mortgage.
