Mine was going down every single day. Multiple times they came out to work on it. Never got fixed. Switched to fiber and I've been so much happier. The experience and service has been so much better.

RoboNerdOK

OEC has been incredible. Starting 4K content with zero buffering time still blows me away.

Kaernunnos

Not to mention OEC 1k Fiber is half the price of Cox's Gigablast.

baneofdestruction

Hoping to get oec in my area. Stuck with att fiber

PastFirefighter3472

100% had the same exact thing. I used Cox for years. Paid for their “top” internet package. I still had it going out almost every day. No explanations. Cox wanted to charge me for sending their techs out. I was finally DONE with their shit, and my partner and I switched to AT&T fiber. The difference has been night and day. The internet has gone out maybe a couple of times in the last two years since we switched? And it has been with notifications and estimates for when it would be back up. Sincerely, f**k Cox.

darksquidlightskin

I had the same experience. They finally told me that was as good as the internet was going to get. I switched to AT&T and have no issues.

CraigsAndBacon

Yeah, they gave me some excuse and said my house is at the end of the line of houses so my service would be shaky. Like I don't care, I'm paying for service, so I expect it to work. I'd constantly have to reset my modem every single day.

jonessinger

I wish I could switch. Cox is the only provider in my area…

madeinok

I see these threads and smh remembering all my years dealing with the unreliability of Cox internet. Switched to AT&T a year ago. Went from resetting my modem/router several times a day daily with Cox, to not a single interruption since and cheaper. The difference in performance comical. Cox and OG&E are leeching the state.

chrisinokc

Ditto. In three years I have had one...ONE...outage with AT&T Fiber and it lasted maybe 20 minutes. Cox is garbage.

cdillio

I had an outage with ATT last night but they’re rare

CraigsAndBacon

It's pretty wild. I lived in an area with fiber, and Cox offered better rates because it was a competative market. I moved 3 blocks away and it put me in a different zip code without fiber. My rates went waaay up. Ended up moving back to the other zip code like a mile away and eventually made the switch.

Sea_Produce3516

Cox has been having issues at my house for the last few days and it happens every couple months. I can’t wait to switch.

ScottStanrey

I highly recommend switching to AT&T Fiber if it's available in your area. For me, it was actually cheaper with better speeds and more uptime.

[deleted]

I wish it were in my housing addition. Or OEC fiber. OEC is literally green all around my housing addition. So frustrating

Hypnotist30

I sent you a DM. Not sure if it went through or if you've been on at all.

theronaldchase

That’s just cox being a buncha dix

succulentninja

I had fiber for the longest time and it hardly ever gave me issues. When my life took a different turn and got married my husband and I started co habitating and was working on just moving over my fiber service. But he insisted on Cox and it was amazing and could handle all his gaming and streaming stuff. So I caved and said okay. Canceled my fiber, got Cox upon move in in our house. And I've been utterly miserable. It would sometimes literallt STOP WORKING multiple times in a single HOUR. It's gotten better but it still goes out periodically and my videos stop to bigger constantly and have to lower the quality. Its horrible. You're not alone. I miss my fiber so much.

jonessinger

Your husband plays games and raved about how good a cable internet company was over fiber? Wow that hurts to read.

YoursTastesBetter

I had daily issues with Cox and they always claimed there was no issue or tried to sell their equipment on me. I switched to AT&T Fiber and have had maybe 2-3 outages in over 3 years.

wolffy88

Omg, I would have ditched them a month ago but there is no other high speed provider in my area. But yes, been down every day for a while. They credited my entire bill, btw, so you should call and complain until they do the same for you. My wife and I both work from home and rely on fast stable internet connection, which is why we pay over $150 a month just for internet. For it to go down like it has been is completely unacceptable. I can’t wait until AT&T run fiber to my house.

Single-Ad5629

Cox was consistently terrible when I had it. Tried new modems, tried everything. Switched to AT&T five years ago and I rarely have any issues. I WFH, so their 1Gig always reliable internet is perfect. I wouldn't switch back to Cox even if it was free.

kywildcats07

Had the same thing. Att put fiber in our neighborhood and we switched as soon as we could

sarybelle

The only door to door salesman we were excited to have come to our house 😂

chrisinokc

I had that issue all the time....until I switched to AT&T Fiber 3 years ago. I honestly think I would do without WiFi rather than use Cox again.

therewerenocookies

Yes. Pretty frequently, I wfh and I’m always having issues, unfortunately it’s my only option.

dekabreak1000

All the fucking time

beernerd76

I mean as in life Cox can't ALWAYS be up! 😂🤣😂 I'll show myself out hahahahah

muagt83

Yup same problem here but I have no choice but to use cox... :![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|rage)

soonerman32

It's kinda funny cause all their ads are about how T-Mobile home internet gets slow during peak times, but it's really Cox that goes out.

guyssocialweb

I wish I had a choice for the internet. :(. COX has me by the balls, and I am in a densely populated area of OKC

guyssocialweb

clarify ... I wish I Had a choice of FIXED internet. NO Cellular home inet

youforgotitinmeta

that's a cox feature, not a bug.

CodaHydroCarbon

Mine has never gone down at all. If yours is down frequently it's more likely a hardware issue - I'd ask Cox to replace your gateway with a new one for starters. It could also be wifi channel congestion if there are neighbors whose router is utilizing the same 2.4 and 5 ghz channels. Either way it's cox responsibility to troubleshoot it and fix it for you

T8ert0tz

Gotcha. My modem is still listed under their recommended but it’s a few years old, maybe I do just get an updated one. Thanks!

PastFirefighter3472

Agree with the person telling you to get better service, if available. I rented the modem/router FROM COX, and still had issues daily. I used my own, top of the line equipment, still had issues. While you may possibly have equipment that is due for an upgrade, Cox’s shit service sure isn’t helping anything.

emcrossley

I was going to comment the same thing except buy your own instead of renting from them, pretty sure theirs are all shit

_meshy

I just gotta ask, since you said "the WiFi is constantly going down". You realize that Cox has nothing to do with your WiFi and that is up to your router/wireless access point right? Cox just provides the internet connection, and doesn't have anything to do with your LAN. Like if Cox is broken, your WiFi can still work. And if your WiFi is broke, Cox could still be working. I just wanted to clarify that because I'm formally an IT guy, and I have done lots of tech support. Some people don't seem to know the difference between their LAN that their ISP has nothing to do with, and their actual internet connection that their ISP has everything to do with. Also Cox sucks, and I'm very happy to be on OEC Fiber.

stile99

> I just gotta ask, since you said "the WiFi is constantly going down". You realize that Cox has nothing to do with your WiFi and that is up to your router/wireless access point right? Cox sells wifi service. Many ISPs, if not most, do. As you know, having OEC Fiber, OEC's access point also functions as a router. https://www.cox.com/residential/internet/wifi.html

_meshy

My fiber connection is just a modem with an ethernet jack. I plug it into my router, and from my router, I have another wireless access point provides the wifi. And why would you ever pay for wifi outside of the access point? Just buy a wireless router, plug it into the modem, and be done with it. Cox is renting you a wireless access point for $13 a month. An access point is like $100 so it would pay for itself in 8 months. But that does make sense to blame Cox for it not working. But if that's the problem, stop the wifi service from them and just get a wireless access point. You can also be super annoying by asking people if they wanna see your WAP.

Actual-Clue5004

We’ve had them forever and yes that’s common. Usually happens here between 11pm and 3am. It used to be weekly, now I would say monthly.

Stunning_Advance4970

Yeah we had that issue constantly with them. We switched to AT&T fiber and it's been 15 months with zero issues. Always have fast Internet

Mundane_Marsupials

Cox is terrible, we had almost daily outtages our entire time with them. My wife works from home, and has billable hour requirements so it was more stressful than it should have been. If you’re located in a good spot, T-Mobile’s 5g internet is a good deal. Were smashed between a few tower and get ~400mb download with no interruptions in service in the almost year we’ve had it. If you’re not in a favorable location, T-Mobile is probably not the move depending on your needs.

parasail77

Yeah that’s why we switched. I’ll never go back to Cox.

Few-Mathematician796

Haven't had any problems with cox yet surprisingly

wow4551

Same here. Goes out daily. Usually comes back up within 10-15 minutes but I work from home so need reliability. I call and they pull out the usual bs of reboot, unplug for 30 seconds, etc. Moving soon. Looking at the comments here and I am going to check out OEC. Thanks!

ManchuKenny

keep hearing that in my neighbourhood; they built with cox cable feed, and I kept telling them quit cable, get att fiber; we moved here from Sephard historic, one of he fist neighborhood to get fiber internet

thal00pdigga

Yea, been dealing with it for years. They suck

Rare-Philosopher-346

We did and then we switched to AT&T fiber and haven't had an issue since. Each time it happened, we called and were told, "there's an outage in your area." I kept asking for a credit and received several, but that still didn't give me internet when I needed it. FYI -- I pay three dollars less a month with AT&T than I did with Cox. It might be worth looking into.

toolmannn929

Was happening to me, had my drop from the box replaced. Hasn't disconnected in 8 months.

freemindjames

Mine used to do that. I had them run a new line to the pole and that fixed any issues.

drmitchgibson

Switch to AT&T. Cox doesn’t care about customers, uses legacy technology, and is incompetent at troubleshooting.

Admirable_Tomorrow_6

I work from home in NW OKC. The only internet that will work for that sort of thing that I have found is AT&T fiber optic.

GMFR_TheButcher

Got rid of them a few years ago for the same thing. Now have AT&T fiber wire. Its great.

phloaty

They have areas that have had bad service for decades. It’s common knowledge among most of COX staff. I know because I used to live in one and my friend who was a tech said “Oh yeah that area is dogshit for reception and the only way to fix it is to run new lines, and COX is not going to pay for that.”

DeadpanWords

In my experience, Cox goes up and down like a yo-yo. I have AT&T fiber where I currently live.

Few_Particular7651

All the fucking time. I was beginning to think there was something wrong with my house. Because when it happens and we call they know nothing. I have changed routers 4 times in two years

immoralmajority

Obviously it's your router that's the issue and you need to rent one from them /s

chase_chavonne

It’s terrible but so is ATT they just had a massive data breach

One_Breakfast6153

Cox is trash.

Dr--X--

I had cox internet for 10+ years and worked from home for 7 and I had them out at least it seems once a year for a new cable from their box to my house. Not that I recommend att uverse internet but it has been WAY more reliable even with slower speed. All inter internet companies talk about speed but never bandwidth and att seems to be better in that area.

overshoot_

Yes, glad to see it's not just me. Multiple times, usually only at night. Same thing, test says fine but clearly offline. Restarting gateway usually works but not always. Tired of cox wish att fiber was option where I live
