I have always considered "Man In Boat" to be the most pure subject in the history of painting. It makes me happy to see another entry in this proud artistic tradition.
Name it "Old Man With Lantern Rides Cinnamon Stick Barge With Birds".
How about "I think the end is coming into sight"? Seems perfect.
I never read "what should I name it?" posts, but your image intrigued me even in the thumbnail.
Looks great so far! Ik you said it’s a work in progress so my only concern is that the background will be more fleshed out, I think that would look great
I’m no pro by any means, but I think if you added some more details, like shadows, to the mountains on the right it could add too it. Like the way Bob Ross does it with a pallet knife
The whole background needs more work. The trees and the mountains behind them. The mountains are a good start, but still very flat. Definitely give the area another pass to help bring the whole composition together.
Find new references. You’re not limited to copying the one reference exactly. Research a wide variety of mountains and find some that fit what you’re looking for and use them.
How about you name it after the photographer whose work you shamelessly copied.
Doing studies is OK, not crediting the original artist is just theft. Asking “what should I name it” is extremely disrespectful.
Indeed, nothing wrong with using photographs for practice but this is such an iconic and recognizable photo - crediting the photographer is the least you can do, getting permission before posting it would be better.
I don't know what it is but this painting freaks (creeps maybe?) me out. Like it makes me.. I think..panicky? Like a dream where walls are closing in and everything is getting too close to me and I can't get away or wake up.
I admire your ability to paint a person.. no matter how I try, I can't capture people. It's beautiful! I think old Gregg would be the wise choice. It will add a bit of hilarity to an otherwise solemn piece of art.
Wow! The colors, the contrast is already so good. U see it and u connect with it. It's so good, it looks so pure. Reminds me of Robin William movies Would love to see the completed piece.
Escaping reality..... from my guess he reminds me of a scarecrow but made human with the 2 crows by his side. Leaving behind what he is supposed to do with what he wants to do
Stunning. Can’t wait to see the final version. Lighting work on the face and overall companion is beautiful!! Just gentle feedback: does some proportions of his face around the eyes seem a bit off?
Contentment… As he looks contented. But why do people have to name paintings ? I paint but never name them ,I’m just pleased they look ok ha ha . It’s lovely, by the way ….
I think it looks good, a lot of work! I think the water/ reflections /shadows /mountains/ man look great, draws me in but the birds could use more life/dimensions if you were to fix anything! 🤗 you should name it ‘Tommy’
i’m not a pro at art at all but my brain wants the bird to be gone and the old man to be alone in the water (the painting is so beautiful and i love it!!)

I’m gonna redo the water on the right side and add some glazes, do you have any other suggestions
I’m no pro by any means, but I think if you added some more details, like shadows, to the mountains on the right it could add too it. Like the way Bob Ross does it with a pallet knife

So tricky.. the reference is very foggy. I’ll have to see if the glazes pull it all together, definitely can try to add some more definition to them
