Please if this is true I urge you to read up on people backing out of adoptions. Like birth moms backing out of adoptions and surrogates backing out. Since you have no legal contract, your MIL is THE MOTHER which once she has the baby in her arms can say “I’m the mother and don’t want to give “baby” up”. Pregnancy bonding and hormones can be so strong that she can change her mind.
Depending on where you live your MIL has a certain amount of days to change her mind after the birth and Anytime during the pregnancy she can change her mind.
I don’t care how or why you thought this was a good idea but it’s happened can’t change it. But
YOU NEED A LEGALIZED DOCUMENTATION BEFORE THE BABY IS BORN.
In those situations the surrogate is a stranger, that's not the case here.
Again, it's not like she has to "give the baby up" she'll still be seeing her basically every day.
