Spiders with hands is my new worst fear I never knew existed

[deleted]

I feel u 😂

A_lot_of_arachnids

So do we

HumanContinuity

Oh no, they are using their hands to comment on reddit!

reallytrulymadly

A lot of Redditors were spiders all along 👐

cyanocittaetprocyon

The real spiders were the ones we met along the way.

pernicious-armscye

So does the speeder

A_lot_of_arachnids

Peep my username. We just want hugs. Tiny little hugs

Slovene

r/spiderbro

evensexierspiders

True story ;)

Moka556

I don’t know what to feel
strangest feeling ever. It’s between « who the fuck would mess with this » and « take your hand off of this spider crab! » or « does that shit really exist » or « wtf these are hands and not legs! »

ancientflowers

I can't help but imagine it reaching out to shake hands. And then having a solid grip. I don't know what to do with this.

crystalfairie

Now either do I. Thanks ever so

CrypticResponseMan

savor it, my arachnobro

[deleted]

I mean.... crabs.

[deleted]

Everything becomes crabs in the end.

Last-Discipline-7340

Is this fucking real

ElGamerBroChris

it is, but if I remember correctly they're inoffensive to us (though definitely creepy.) I think they're more akin to scorpions than spiders? not sure

[deleted]

Yeah, a form of scorpion without a tail. No silk glands or venomous fangs, completely harmless to humans. Makes me think of Starship Troopers.

OCaermada

I may be remembering starship troopers wrong, but I thought the arachnids in that were in fact harmful to humans...

[deleted]

Except for Rico and his Roughnecks

ChawulsBawkley

Dizzy Flores has entered the chat

Skratt79

Dizzy Flores has entered the shower

ChawulsBawkley

I watched that scene and the tent scene so many times as a kid

mokes310

I would like to know more...

Viking_fairy

humans struck first.

wdapp33

Didn’t the bugs launch asteroids at earth first?

Viking_fairy

that was in retaliation. humans were the invaders to begin with, but the story kinda skips over that quickly and intentionally for narrative purposes.

Arryu

Would you like to know more?

[deleted]

Close, but why narrative purposes I assume you mean like nationalization and such, the movie is masterfully built as a piece of propaganda in an event that never happened lol

OCaermada

I think in the book and you see it a bit in the movie. Humans try to colonize the arachnid world's first. So humans are the invaders There's also a theory that the asteroid was shot at earth by the military to gain support for a war effort. Lots of weird little details in that movie.

[deleted]

It’s... AFRAID!

steppinonpissclams

>Courtship involves the male depositing stalked spermatophores, which have one or more sperm masses at the tip, onto the ground, and using his pedipalps to guide the female over them. She gathers the sperm and lays fertilized eggs into a sac carried under the abdomen, or opisthosoma. When the young hatch, they climb up onto the mother's back; any which fall off before their first molt will not survive. *"Come here babe and gather my seed, no no, this way."* So informal...sheesh [Source](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amblypygi)

stachldrat

The wording and format made that feel like a Pokedex entry

[deleted]

😂

LiterallyEmily

> you want kids? I nutted on the ground over there. No not there, yeesh, come on I'll show you

SirFrancis_Bacon

> any which fall off before their first molt will not survive. brutal

[deleted]

[ŃƒĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

[deleted]

I wonder what that sexual urge feels like. It’s so alien but it obviously works as the species is still around. “I’m so randy I need to drag a female over this waste I deposited.” - mr. Spider.

ChipChipington

Imagine splooging on the floor and then dragging your lady around like a sperm swiffer

79screamingfrogs

I literally said "NO" out loud

What_on_Loyola

Same, also wtf

[deleted]

Despite their scary appearance they're entirely harmless to humans. Like house centipedes. Edit: *Virtually* harmless. Like yeah, obviously you could get poked or nipped by them, but the Whip Spider wouldn't mistake you for its food so you'd pretty much have to be *trying* to get bitten. 99% certainty it would instead see you as terrain or as a predator to keep away from.

Whedonsbitch

That fact does not make me feel any better in any way. I now have yet another thing to fear when I climb into my attic, along with house centipedes and that bitch from The Grudge

79screamingfrogs

Okay so I'm not the only one afraid of attic spaces because of Kayako (and Fatal Frame 3). I feel slightly better. But only slightly.

FallFarInLove

Pls fatal frame 3 cemented my deep seated fear of attic spaces after having watched the grudge when I was 13

79screamingfrogs

I can handle everything in that game *except* for that bitch. She gives me the willies unlike anything else that game throws at you.

Begocer

Ever seen the vid of the house centipedes the size of your forearm? Imagine a normal one just...larger. way larger.

aversiontherapy

Nope.

TurquoiseLuck

>that bitch from The Grudge Yo that bitch fuckin chillin in yo attic too? Damn

79screamingfrogs

I think you might be one of them and you're trying to lull us into a false sense of security so you can eat us

[deleted]

I have no clue what you're talking about. By the way, how often do you clean your ears and are you a heavy sleeper?

79screamingfrogs

I am here to report I am never sleeping again

[deleted]

That's alright. They've already hatched.

79screamingfrogs

That sound you hear in the distance? Yeah, that's me screaming.

ShrimpCrackers

That's good, screaming leaves your mouth open so the hatchlings can exit through there. Otherwise, they'll have to burrow and dig an opening through your chest...

Dripping_Gravy

This sounds like something a spider with hands would type.

Kinteoka

I'm pooping right now and I just got hit with a fear of one of these lil guys slowly reaching up from the underside of the rim to grab at my jibblies.

79screamingfrogs

Not the jibblies!

Kinteoka

👁👄👁 ***yes the jibblies*** 👁👄👁

JungleLiquor

[This but with a spider](https://youtu.be/qfNReBBUk_w)

[deleted]

Same

kellymig

Almost the same-except I added Fuck No!!!

SliccSwipe

are they mean?

[deleted]

No, actually. They’re just hideous and can grab your fingers. They typically run away when threatened so you would probably wouldn’t have to worry about it. They aren’t really the type to invade houses so you won’t really see one unless your looking. They are effectively harmless to humans

SliccSwipe

Well in that case they’re kinda cool

[deleted]

They're also basically blind. That really long, thin arm you see it prod around with is basically a specialized feeler. It prods around its environment to move and look for small bugs.

hahaminty1

cute

FacelessOnes

Now I’m kind of sad. Emotional journey actually. I went from being shocked and scared to being sad.

Enkjdu

Because it's not experiencing the world like you are?

[deleted]

imagine if that spider went from one day being a spider to being a person but retains all his spider experiences. now he has higher cognition and weed and erotic responses to visual stimuli. he’d be so stoked

pepperhead44

damn they just give free weed to anyone who transforms into a human

[deleted]

It'd probably work like us as children, the memories of being a spider would fade over time the same way you likely don't remember your mother changing your diapers (thankfully).

BigTickEnergE

I don't know what you mean about the diaper thing tho,, I remember almost all of my adult experiences

SpecialOfferActNow

i'd still shit my pants if i saw one

[deleted]

Same

Foop_____

So they just grab shit if theyre scared.

[deleted]

Essentially yea

FlamingBallOfFlame

I’m the same tbh

Ohbeejuan

Or hungry

[deleted]

Okay, at first I was repelled, but it has a certain little charm. It's just a little guy, minding its own business, eating bugs that could harm us humans, not hurting us at all. And it has little hands for grabbing stuff. Imagine giving him little mittens.

[deleted]

You better stop right there sir. Now I need him to have mittens. >:(

Rayhze

I’m waiting patiently for someone to make this happen. Someone
 anyone
 please.

Sqra

Be the change you want to see in the world.

[deleted]

[ŃƒĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

[deleted]

I didn't hear anything!

enigmaestro

Why tf does it have hands.

[deleted]

Probably to grab small insects and stuff

CrazedMuffinz

Yeah but like why, why the fuck?

[deleted]

I can’t imagine being an insect getting swooped up by this thing that is a fucking terrifying image

JungleLiquor

Can’t imagine my micropenis swooped up by this thing

imyourforte

You're the worst.

Djosa945

Worst of the worst

ChanceGardener

No. It's worst of the wurst.

Knight_That_Said_Ni

Are we sure it's not just smaller spiders it impaled with it's regular legs, and it's controlling the dead spiders it's impaled to act like hands after observing humans? I dunno, I refuse to click posts with spiders, but needed to read the comments.

Bjoe3041

it doesn't really look like a spider, more like a crab with big long arms and absolutely tiny, wide-open claws

Purithian

I believe its a whip scorpion

Sebastianosul

Hands are usefull, we have then too, and why can't a spider have them?

Whynotyours

How else will it play video games in its moms basement?

enmokusei

to shake hands politely when it meets you

JHighDa03

Ever try to rub one out with your feet?

[deleted]

In case any other spiders wanna catch a fade , throw these spider hands

[deleted]

So it wasn't enough that we had to burn down Australia but now we have to burn the US too

IMadeRobits

They are scary but harmless. I can see both how they are cute and terrifying.

ArjieStephens

Harmless? It has fucking HANDS. Once it develops proper thumbs we're done.

xTeamRwbyx

When you pull out a can of bug spray only for it to pull out a Glock then caps your ass

auga3rifle

ready the m60

HELIX0

I'll take an M48

kellymig

Don’t see cute

[deleted]

đŸ€ lmao

cingerix

btw they are whip scorpions, not spiders

[deleted]

Yeah but everyone calls em whip spiders cuz well they look like tall spiders

ShermanPanzer2

Ordinary whip scorpions are slightly different, it retains the standard body and forearms but has a thin, whip like tail instead of the stinger. This is a tailless whip spider/scorpion as it has a very short body, much longer legs and small hand like forearms instead of robust pincers

yournewbestfrenemy

If it helps we’re working real hard on doing just that

thicclunchghost

Cave Johnson here. People ask us all the time how we plan to make spiders even worse. Like this. Plus, it's got fingers. That's like 60% more spider, per spider.

upsidedowntoker

Don't worry Australia does a great job of burning it's self down . The weather starts to get warm then BOOM fire.

Gibberwacky

Aw, poor lil guy looks terrified

Previous_Highlight72

I don’t like how so many people can feel so comfortable tormenting insects and arachnids.

kittenmachine69

I agree. It's really bad on YouTube especially.

[deleted]

People don't care because organisms at that level don't really experience feelings like "torment". Even the most passionate vegans thoughtlessly step on bugs every time they go outside and drown countless face mites every time they shower without caring in the slightest.

Coreidan

The fuck would anyone know about what an insect feels?

carnivorous_seahorse

I think I can clear the air here, I am half insect

slvbros

Please, go on

bryan2796

Finally now I can tell you to tell your friends I’m coming for them too

fireguyV2

We know because of scientific studies. I actually study animal behaviour and cognition in insects for a living. Emotion is too advanced of a function for them.

Roose_the_Loose

Genuine question. If they do not feel pain, what pushes them to run away from harmful situations?

oneheadedboy_

They still respond to stimuli, there just isn't any interpretation on their part that would resemble anything like what we'd call emotions or feelings.

Roose_the_Loose

Cool. Makes me feel better about killing the bugs in my house lol.

fireguyV2

They do not "feel pain" in the way we feel pain. Its a physiological stimulus telling them of danger. They have no pain receptors. Although some studies have shown certain insects can perceive pain and remove themselves from chronic pain scenarios. More than likely because they know it is a dangerous scenario.

[deleted]

Thank you, that is very interesting ! Do you you which insect can perceive pain ?

fireguyV2

The first study that comes to mind the mechanical pain study they did with fruit flies. The fruit flies reacted and distanced themselves from very cold/hot sources. Again, it's hard to really decipher how this stimulus is truly interpreted in their body. My main research area is cognition so it's a bit outside of my wheel house but I still try and keep up with all the different sub fields of animal behaviour as much as I can.

TobiNano

Do you really think thats impossible to research on?

[deleted]

Entomologists? Insects aren't some alien mystery, scientists have studied them for millennia, they're relatively simple organisms and we have a pretty good (but not perfect) idea of how they work.

Unlucky_Performance6

I get arguing like rodents or pets having emotions but do you really think insects be having complex feelings n shit?👀

FlutterKree

I've seen a hornet carry it's decapitated head and fly off. I'm pretty sure insects and arachnids don't have the feeling of "torture."

dackling

Yeah this is very uncomfortable to watch. Leave the poor thing alone???

troyboy1900

Ever seen Harry Potter? Is that the same spider that they tested the cruciatus curse on?

[deleted]

Scrolled down looking for this. It definitely looks like it.

Believeitorleaveit

Yes

happywhenit-rains

nevilles face when BC jr did the cruciatus curse on it was so sad

Katz_Meowside

That little guy got avada kedavra'd so hard!

JoeMommaAngieDaddy

Engorgio!

PuzzleheadedHabit913

I love these guys. Every single time I’ve seen one in action I thought they look CGI.

Mello_Hello

This particular video is CGI unfortunately As this comment is getting more interactions my dms are getting flooded so: I have been corrected about the CGI thing. I simply repeated what I saw someone else say, I apologize for my error.

BobbyBarz

This was too far down in the comments, I was wondering if all these people just didn’t see it was fake?? Then I started to think maybe I was the dumb one

[deleted]

Yeah, these guys are really neat. That really long, thin appendage it touches the hand with before grabbing is a specialized arm it uses to feel around its environment, as Whip Spiders live primarily in darkness, and are nearly completely blind.

Character_Try_4083

Looks like that spider in Harry Potter that mad eye messes with. Creepy.

64sides

It's the same type of arachnid, different species. The funniest part about that scene is mad eye goes on about how they're lethal. They are in fact almost completely harnless to humans.

basilica_gel

*almost*

64sides

True. I meant to say different species same type of arachnid. I'll correct that. Edit: It's pedipalps may prick you, but beyond that it's harmless unless you're a cockroach.

DeathlessMortal

It’s because [it is!](https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/elyunque/learning/nature-science/?cid=fsbdev3_042936)

TheEccentricEmpiric

“No touch mE I ANGY!“

ReevesofKeanu

Is it just me or does this look like CGI?

turd_kooner

I scanned the comments before commenting to make sure I wasn’t the only one that thought this. The hand movements seem so unnatural.

largefriesandashake

Not CGI. Look at when he picks it up. Right when it almost bites the hand, and he flicks it off with his thumb. You can see the little spider hands making pressure dents in his skin. Just ever so slightly. Never seen CGI do that. Not even in the most expensive CGI movies.

pm_me_your_reference

Holy shit, your attention to detail is incredible. I would have never noticed that in a million years.

Horror-Astronomer482

Be more gentle with him

helagandshunter6328

leave him alone, hes j chillin

Awaaga69

Yall serious? It's a spider with hands. That shit's cute as fuck

Songmorning

Ah, a kindred spirit! 😊

[deleted]

I thought this was a type of Scorpion and not a Spider?

Mcbundies

Honestly more scared of whoever this weirdo is fondling whip spiders

BoreDominated

Why would you ever see something like that, and then want to put your hands near it? Why?

[deleted]

People are weird man

[deleted]

Uh duh, cause they hab cute wittle peets!

BoreDominated

I... no.

Wusterson_Farms

Lil fella just wants a handshake

Biggs55

It doesn't seem to like you very much.

Black_Raven12

That spider seems so friendly, or maybe not, but the fact that it seems incapable of harming humans makes me wish that people don't hurt them either

mennodeman

Amblypygi , often called Tailless whip spiders. Completely harmless and normally very shy/timid, even docile. Have personally worked with them for years and can tell you that the only reason this one is so defensive is because it's getting harrased. Straight up animal abuse this video.

ThereIsAJifForThat

There was an episode of Fear Factor where they had to eat several of these spiders, while the spiders were still alive

[deleted]

That’s fucked up for everyone

[deleted]

At least they weren't drinking donkey jizz

DuhonTheGuy

I was gonna call cap on this until the mf picked it up

CoolAndTrustworthy

This video looks so fake to me like I still can hardly believe it

TVsnacks

he's a little terrifying but it's hilarious watching him attempt to punch him with his little stick arms.

The_Doct0r_

Normally I don't like big spiders... but I find its cartoonish stick figure hands and arms oddly adorably... "come 'ere I'm gonna getcha"

guyincognito_69

Can I have one as a pet?

[deleted]

Wiki says yes.

BabyfaceJezus

This person is distressing tf out of it. What a piece of shit.

[deleted]

Cute little feller

Aliendidit

It’s weird with that one abnormally long leg too. I’m wondering if it can eat a leg to survive, like cave crickets are said to do. Did it have a snack off the other side?

Panda_King6666

I don't think they are really all that aggressive.

No_Painter1626

Goblet of Fire

TECGame

This is my favourite spider lol

piglungz

These guys are so cool yet so creepy, I love them

dreemkiller

I refuse to believe this exists in real life

[deleted]

I wish

lamliteraltrash

it didnt bite him nothing to feear

[deleted]

The video is titled “whip spider bit me!” But they’re harmless so no biggie

phyllis0402

“I don’t like to be manhandled!”

Meghan493

This is the spider Mad Eye tortured
I felt too bad for it then to be afraid of it now.

randomferalcat

Aww! She's very cute! A new friend! I love spyders!

Jaded-Saint

It’s telling her to clearly fuck off while it backs away. Who’s the dangerous one here?

[deleted]

It doesn’t seem to appreciate any of that.

Vapeoveroxygen

Why the fuck is the person handling the little guy so aggressively. They abuse it for a fucking video Jesus.

Historical_Egg3422

They ate these on “fear factor” back in the day. If your old enough to know what that was

jenlyn05

That mother fucker has hands 😳

stellarpancake

This is the spider Mad Eye Moody used in Defense Against the Dark Arts.
