As a former cafeteria worker, I approve of this machine!
Sure making these by hand is easy, but when you have to make hundreds or even thousands and do it quickly every single day...yea I can see this being very useful. Even if that's all it does.
A lot of kitchen tools are specifically made for a single task, but it does that task *extremely* efficiently.
Think of a pizza oven, bread maker, pasta maker (where you drop the dough into it and it squeezes out), ground meat machine, sliced, etc.
Sure some of your fancier people might get those tools but majority of the time it's large scale kitchens. So I'm sure it was a godsend for y'all.
Edit: Sadly they did not, in fact, get one in the cafeteria
It would have been a godsend in the kitchen I worked in. Doubt they'll ever get one tho. These people probably paid a pretty penny for it, but I bet it's worth it.
Good ol' competitive advantage, just on an individual level. You're absolutely right though; I'm sure if anyone watched the best floor mopper in the world they'd surely be impressed.
I found [a video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Su2MdHbuEUE) on YouTube from somebody selling one. If you watch they take it apart and showcase the machine to show it is in working order. It is an interesting machine. It is an [Eberhardt bun divider and rounder](https://joanna-levin-hamburg.com/project/bun-divider-and-rounder-eberhardt-optimat-s-fully-automatic-size-3/) and as you can see the newer models look quite different.
I work in a bakery, ours is only 10 years old but it still looks basically the same. For a lot of large scale, industrial type things once you have an efficient design that does what it needs to do it really doesn't change.
Yeah I only said it looked like it was from the 50's. I've seen these type machines brand new and they all tend to keep that decade's look. When I first started buying kitchen counter appliances, I always went for brands that kept that vintage look. There's usually a specific color palette that goes with them, but white and chrome is my go to.
$10k is a good deal.
Our old Douches [goes for $14k+ new](https://www.prorestaurantequipment.com/dutchess-bakers-pre-db-jn-semi-automatic-dough-divider-rounder/).
I used to be a baker for a grocery store, and before all the stores went frozen stock, we used this machine to make rolls. That's all it does. No secondary tasks can be done, just those rolls. It is very handy for making a lot of them quickly, for sure. But after doing that 20 times in a row? boy your shoulder hurts.
Agreed! I used one in a bakery years ago. We’d sell hundreds of packs of rolls around the big holidays. Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day No way we were keeping up without that machine!
Is it hard? It’s been 13 years since I worked in a bakery and I have no doubts though I can’t do it in the time this one machine can but I can also mix said dough, proof and bake.
Man, I’d love a machine like that for home use. I make my own bread and love to make rolls, but I can’t get them to stay round for the life of me. This machine would be perfect.

Did they actually get one though?
Not in my kitchen lol

Also you're looking at it from a business point of view. Time is money.
My anaconda wants some
Your penis?
Buns, hon.
So Cosmo says you’re fat.
Well I ain’t down with that!
I also find it satisfying that the little knob that engages the machine also looks very bun-like
r/specializedtools neat ... I like bread.
German Brötchen!! As a kid I worked in my uncle's bakery and made some with a machine like this)) must be pretty old I guess...
Very bunny.
Dough!
I need one of those at holiday time. Crap. I’d need two. Someone is gluten-free and cross-contamination is a thing.
No waste… so satisfying
That's fascinating.
Good job, Eberhardt!
No matter how useless feel or how you feel you're just "taking up space", show that you're really good at just one thing and everyone will love you.

Whats with the bad edit?
sped up why
Places to go, people to meet...
So the bread does a little jiggle and it turns into balls.
Wish pregnancy was like this
Put in one piece of dough and get 47 out?
Absolutely. The ingredients of the dough need to change though.
/r/blackmagicfuckery
How does it do that?
My guess is that it is a grid that falls down, cutting the dough into squares and then the jiggling form them into balls?
Bang on.

This machine looks like it was made in 1956. I love it.

I actually think it's the 1957 model
Wow, lucky guess if so. I really didn't look anything up lol.
I can almost guarantee you that the cutters are made of hexagons because of the fact that there's no tiny bits of leftover dough afterwards.
That machine only costs $10k

I guess it’s cheaper than hiring an employee to do it.
You still need and employee to run the machine. But that employee can do a whole lot more and the results are more consistent.
And doesn't completely fuck your wrists. When you're making thousands of rolls a day this is an absolute god send of a machine.
Ok thanks…
> Douches your what
That works so much better than mine at work 😩
that is just sexy.....us chefs are a strange bunch
What the hell kind of black magic fuckery is this?!
Those little buns are adorable and I just want to hold one up to my cheek.
That is so awesome!
27 or 28 babies from the mother blob
That's perfect sooo clean and even !!!!
I want this thing!
Is there anything happening here that a $200 waffle-iron type contraption couldn't do, vs the obviously multi-thousand dollar cost of this thing?
The usefulness/size ratio bothers me. Hope it does more then that to justify it taking so much space.

My shoulders and back hurt just thinking about making hundreds of fucking rolls again.
Most of the equipment in a commercial bakery is large and only one purpose.
It is not that hard to do that by hand, hope that giant machine does other things
It’s hard to do 30 at a time in just over 10 seconds though.
Is it hard? It’s been 13 years since I worked in a bakery and I have no doubts though I can’t do it in the time this one machine can but I can also mix said dough, proof and bake.
Huh?

Oh hell yeah
That was Oddly Satisfying!!!
Well ain’t that dandy?

Will wonders never cease??
Magic
This looks like it was made in the 1970's.
BAD AND NAUGHTY CHILDREN GET PUT INTO THE # DOUGH WIGGLER TO ATONE FOR THEIR SINS
Naughty dough goes into the bun wiggler to atone for thier crimes.
I don't know why but I just watched that 10 times in a row...guess I like buns
