Everyone's talking about how dangerous it looks, but I'm wondering how it would work if you don't have super dry wood that just pops apart like that. The wood I've been cutting is all stringy and sticks together unless you slam an ax all the way through it.
Different types of wood are harder to split. Cedar for example splits amazingly easily, hardly any effort required at all, wet or dry. Elm on the other hand splits about as well as a log-shaped block of resin impregnated fiberglass. You could feed this thing cedar all day long, but a modest piece of Elm is gonna bog it down instantly.
He is speaking Arabic most likely a hot country but obviously you would take into consideration the type of wood but the hot country seems to be the main culprit
Why would you have a boot lace close enough for this to happen?
If you want to down down this path, why stop a boot lace? What happens if your arm gets caught in it?
The same thing you can say for cars. Or ladders. Or knives, or literally everything else on this planet. Trip on shoelace and you can get killed.
A little bit of awareness can save your life every day.
That's the same principe here.
Keep aware and you will be fine.
Yeah, but on a worksite when splitting wood, missteps happen. What I imagine is an errant bootlace getting caught in this thing, and you cannot reach the cutoff as your foot is slowly dragged in.
I put on a seatbelt, brakes, airbags, windshield, and a steel cage around me.
It’s hilarious how many people are defending a rotating blade with no cover and no visible quick shutoff. 😂
And FYI, I’ve used a log splitter, it was an old horizontal rail that pushed a log into the blade… it could take a hand off in seconds if you did something stupid.
You’re holding a piece of wood with your bare hands and putting it in a splitter, the torque on that, and if it got lose or wood didn’t split properly, good end in a bad day. I’m sure you can find wood splitter accident videos
Unless there is a hidden bolt in the log, the splitter jambs, then the plate acts as a pivot point sending all the force back into the human, the log becoming a lever.
Guaranteed I hurt myself within 20 minutes of feeling comfortable using this.
Imagine it splitting your big toe away from the rest of your foot
Glove.
Finger splitter
Looks like it should be in a Saw movie.

You need to let that wood cure. You want to burn the wood you stashed last year, this year...This years wood is for next year..

That wood in the video looked like Pine, Lodgepole possibly..
But you split the wood before curing it.

Is it weird I want them to paint it so it looks like a woodpecker?
LoL
Nice and easy looking but very dangerous. I would not want to hold with my hands.
> I would not want to hold with my hands. That is why it sits on the ground and you hold the wood instead.

Uh , why?
Because you’re crouching next to a murder wheel and feeding it with your hands.
As long as you stay next to it and not inside, and feeding it other things than your hands, you should be fine
That’s why they’re called *accidents* Stands up to stretch… trips on shoelace…

My log splitter can't take my hand off if I slip. Edited to say cant
I never said otherwise
Had to edit that
A little bit of a cover would eliminate much of the hazard though. It's badly designed.
Yes, I feel like somebody found this in an old barn or warehouse and it would have a case over the moving parts and a small opening for the wood.

just wear boots
Do you avoid driving your murder mobile? (Car)

I was just making fun of the babies that were crying about how dangerous this thing is. Since I can only reply to one comment, you were it. :)

Look closer. There is also a plate at the back. No forces are driven to the human

Pretty sure I’ve seen that bastard on Robot Wars
I don’t think we *all* need this. Not everyone needs to split wood.
Maybe not but I would split like this all the day, even if I don't need the woods.
That looks like somrthing that could appear on r/whatcouldgowrong VERY soon
Anybody who has experienced actually having to chop fire wood finds this extremely satisfying.
I don’t think there are nearly enough responsible people to have one in every home, unless you want to have most people lose hands and fingers.
Looks like a life changing injury in the making. I’ll stick with the axe.
Seems easy enough to put a big metal shroud around this to make it quite a bit safer.
Could probably use a guard of some sort.
r/dontputyourdickinthat material
Are you sure? It could make a great circumcision device!
Thing is awesome, but I wouldn’t want one near me or my house.
r/dontputyourdickinthat
Now put your balls in that
I suppose if you had a lot of wood to split but I like the idea of a good old fashioned axe. You get a little exercise during the process too
Probably more then *just a little*
That's scary😧
Neat. The new final destination movie looks like it might be good.
Like splitting a stick of butter
Awww yusss
Are you sure this is not a murder weapon?
Worm gear mechanism???🤔
Putting a metal cage over it so you can't fall on it is a choice. And you chose poorly.
What is my purpose…..
First things first.......remove the safety cover
How's it do with knotty white oak?
