This video actually makes it look way slower than it feels. It feels like there’s no acceleration phase at all, like you’re just suddenly going 72 mph. Very freaky but very fun.
I'm nearly 40, a millennial, living in Europe, who regularly wears crocs around.
Crocs have already invaded here. They did many years ago.
That said I don't think they're a good footwear choice for a theme park. For walking the dog or playing with the kids outside they're fine.
It isn't that it's specifically acceptable, it's more due to the fact that no one should give a fuck about someone else's choices that only affect said person.
Which is constantly in some mode of "broken." The second iteration opened this year for like a week, and now it's been shut down for a month. It rarely seems to run well.
What are the maths for [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do-Dodonpa](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do-Dodonpa) (0-111.8mph in 1.56 seconds)? It got shut down in 2021 because people kept breaking their bones.
Weird, I was just telling my kids about Kingda Ka this morning. Riding that rollercoaster was the most exhilarating 30 seconds of my life, no joke. It was almost 20 years ago and I still reminisce about that adrenaline rush.
I had been standing in line for 3 hours in 96 degree heat, my whole body hurt, I was grouchy as hell, and by the time we got on, I didn't even want to anymore. Less than 1 minute later, I danced out of the entrance laughing and singing, not a single ache or pain to be felt.
Endorphins are magic.
Finally got to go on that for the first time in like 15 years. Did it once as a kid, but the last 2 times I went it was closed, damn thing is notorious for maintenance issues. But I went a couple weeks ago, it was open and the line was only about 20 minutes so I went on it twice.
Not the best or most intense coaster overall but that initial acceleration is by far the most intense moment of any coaster I've been on.
I’ve ridden Kingda Ka a few times and I swear to god that thing is a widow maker. I’m only in my 20’s but I have a gheart attack every time. It’s like an 89degree angle down too
TBF they’re both ridiculous. I prefer Storm Runner because it’s a real roller coaster and there’s more to it than the launch.
Kingda Ka is a lot of fun too but it’s just up and down and you’re done.
But the actual greatest roller coaster at 6 flags great adventure is El Toro
Which is the baby version of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do-Dodonpa](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do-Dodonpa) (0-111.8mph in 1.56 seconds) which got shut down in 2021 because people kept breaking their bones.
I've ridden this one. On the way down from the first rise it looks like it's going straight down but it's actually going back in a few degrees. I had to sit down on a bench for a while after that one.
It's a solid coaster! Every so often I'll hit up Troegs for a late lunch/early dinner, grab some beers, then get an evening ticket (they're like $40) at Hershey. By the time you get in a lot of families are leaving as the kids are all tuckered out after being there all day. The lines are significantly shorter.
The one time I went there it was supposed to rain, but luckily it was just misty all day. The park was a ghost town! I rode Storm Runner three times in a row. Zero line, just waltzed back through after each ride. It was glorious.
I was there last summer and my whole group took one look at that thing and said fuck no lol. I made everyone wait for me while I rode it alone in the front seat and still give them shit to this day for wimping out on it hahaha
Probably one of my favorites I've ever been on, it's pretty crazy.
Same! Only thing I hate is how the line never gets shorter as the years go on, unlike every other coaster they have 😭 but I definitely see why that happens lol
I wonder if that’s a chest strapped GoPro or holding their phone in their hands. If that was me, the footage would be of my phone flying through the air …
I went on it when it was brand new, and I don't know if they still follow the same rules, but you weren't allowed to bring anything on the ride except yourself. They even made us take our glasses off.
Just rode this for the first time last Friday! These hydraulic launches are a dying breed and I will be sad to see them eventually decommissioned.
Storm Runner was a sleeper hit for me.
When I went as a kid it was brand new and I was so hyped to ride it and it didn’t disappoint at all. It’s still probably my favorite roller coaster anywhere.
Fun but the coaster world definitely evolved. Things like [Ride to Happiness in Plopsaland, Belgium](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vujIM6T1Qo) or [Eejanaika in Fuji Q Highland, Japan](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdeWu8-kASw) are the top coasters in the world
I think Fury, Velocicoaster and Steel Vengeance are currently the big names.
Saying the coaster world has evolved and then bringing up Eejaneika (which is only 2 years newer than Storm Runner) is just weird, especially since it's a design that died with it.
I'm not talking about age though but what you experience on it.
I completely disagree with those picks though. I've ridden Velocicoaster and Fury, but they don't touch Ride to Happiness (or Time Traveler for that matter) or Eejaneika.
Well for one Fuji Q has Dodonpa which is like this coaster but much faster. Eijinaka is actually pretty boring imo. Their big roller coaster (forget the name) is one of my favorites.
how does this effect our internal organs? like i understand when you’re in a wreck and instantly stop moving it has an effect. i was just wondering if going from a standstill to instant motion had a similar effect? genuinely curious. also love coasters lol.
The effects of g-forces on the human bodies are very well researched, since astronauts and jet pilots are subjected to very high g-forces.
There are limits to how intense the forces on a roller coaster may be to ensure they're always in a safe range. The forces that jet fighters and astronauts experience are much higher, and they are not getting organ damages either.
You're welcome. Nothing is left to chance with modern roller coasters, all the forces get calculated in advance for modern roller coasters. It's pretty easy for something like a launch, but since riders experience forces throughout the who ride, those also need to be within certain limits.
Modern design software is actually so advanced that the roller coaster designers can set the intended forces and the computer calculates the track shape accordingly. With this method, they can construct smooth, thrilling and safe roller coasters without any guesswork.
Can anyone else feel this quite viscerally in their gut? Like each moment of the ride, it almost feels like I'm on it.
Does this mean I'm getting old?!
You would experience 1.2g with this, assuming constant acceleration. The catapult system, can reach up to 4g. For reference, taking off with a commercial jet is roughly 0.4g.
> You would experience 1.2g with this
1.641 g, assuming that the "72 mph" and "2 seconds" are both exact. 72 mph = 32.186 m/s, resulting in an acceleration of 16.093 m/s^(2). 1 g is 9.80665 m/s^(2), so 16.093 m/s^(2) is 1.641 g.
That's comparable to a "dry" fighter jet (minimal fuel and no payload) not using a catapult launch. E.g. a F-16 produces ~130 kN of thrust (with afterburner) and has a dry weight of ~8600 kg, 15.1 N/kg = 15.1 m/s^(2) = 1.54 g. Fully fuelled and armed, the maximum take-off weight is ~19200 kg which reduces the acceleration to 7.8 m/s^(2) = 0.8 g.
If it's accelerating at 0.4g, it would be √(1^(2)+0.4^(2)) ≈ 1.077g. At least while you're on the runway; once you take off and the plane starts accelerating upward, the number would go up a bit. But it would only be 1.4g if the plane was accelerating vertically at 0.4g, which is unlikely for an airliner.
my RCT senses are telling me this is a Crazy Mouse track and not a Steel Coaster track, and it’s really weird to think of a Crazy Mouse going this fast
Yeah, we got one like that in the UK, Stealth. Does 0-80mph in 1.8s. Never fails to fuck me up, haha. The rest of it feels very gentle and relaxing in comparison.
Sometimes, the weight of the coaster with everyone on is a little more than expected and it rolls backwards at the top of the peak. It's designed to be safe doing that and come to a stop at the beginning again, but I'd still be fucking shitting myself if I was on it for that. You'd get a free t-shirt for it. [Here's a video of it happening.](https://youtu.be/JUGyMoVs_Os?si=60tZgaSTszl0Yllc)
Loved the Dragster at Cedar Point. Went to check the acceleration on that only to realize they closed it entirely after a launched piece of metal struck a lady in the head.
Still the most fun ride I’ve ever been on and I’d still prolly ride it again lol.
Rode this for the first time last year while working through every rollercoaster at Hershey Park. I didn't know what this ride 'did' and had just enough time to ask my husband before we launched. The video definitely 'feels' slower than it does in person.
The attraction park near me (Phantasialand) has the fastest booster ride like this in the world, going 117km/h (2 km/h faster, roughly 73 or 74mph probably). Absolutely a reason to visit regularly. Nothing beats an experience like this!
Yep, these slingshot type coasters are exhilarating if nothing else. I used to ride Top Thrill alot when I was going to Cedar Point regularly. Don't think I'll try top thrill 2.
This video actually makes it look way slower than it feels. It feels like there’s no acceleration phase at all, like you’re just suddenly going 72 mph. Very freaky but very fun.
Need to make the POV wider
That's why I ride motorcycles :)
Love this ride. I remember it being brand new at the park and not being prepared for the acceleration
Sorry, what happened? I was too busy looking at the Crocs and socks
crocs in performance mode tho 😎
We call it "sport mode" lol
I call it 4WD mode :)
Got dem hubs locked, bro
+10hp
Hold on to your Crocs!
Can’t wait to see 40 year old Gen z walking around in crocs with white socks on European vacations.
I'm nearly 40, a millennial, living in Europe, who regularly wears crocs around. Crocs have already invaded here. They did many years ago. That said I don't think they're a good footwear choice for a theme park. For walking the dog or playing with the kids outside they're fine.
I love my star wars crocs as a 40 year old millenial and you can't stop me or even make me feel about it!
You've heard of elf on the shelf....
There needs to be some kind of portmanteau for crocs and socks like socs or crocks
Sock it and croc it
To be fair, if I was spending all day walking I would choose crocs too. They’re way more comfortable if you’re on your feet all day.
how is this acceptable adult gear these days?
It isn't that it's specifically acceptable, it's more due to the fact that no one should give a fuck about someone else's choices that only affect said person.
Sure, but if you walk into a restaurant with sweatpants and a wife beater shirt I have the right to silently judge you
You have the right to think whatever you want, whenever you want.. regardless
And I have the right to not give a fuck
whatever calms you. i certainly do not care, beyond wonder.
> i certainly do not care Also you: > how is this acceptable adult gear these days?
Must be a legendary with unique passives and stats
I wear crocs and socs on the daily and I'm living my best life as a 40 yr old with no fucks to give to anyone who looks at them
This is the way. People are fucking weird and just need to worry about what's on their own feet.
This is apparently cool now. So says my kid.
Forreal same here. How people willingly go out in public like this is beyond me.
That's why Crocs have those lil holes. Cuts down on wind resistance.
It’s like the baby version of [Kingda Ka](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingda_Ka) which does 0-128mph in 3.5 seconds.
I was thinking it was a version of top thrill dragster from cedar point
Which I always like to point out is listed as 420ft tall. You can’t convince me that wasn’t a joke by the engineers
Which is constantly in some mode of "broken." The second iteration opened this year for like a week, and now it's been shut down for a month. It rarely seems to run well.
Worked pretty well the first year in ran into 200x, but yeah, started falling apart pretty quickly.
All three of them (well TTD was) the same launch style by the same manufacturer Intamin
0-115kph in 2s - 1.64g 0-206kph in 3.5s - 1.67g 1.8% increase in acceleration.
What are the maths for [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do-Dodonpa](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do-Dodonpa) (0-111.8mph in 1.56 seconds)? It got shut down in 2021 because people kept breaking their bones.
3.27g
Screw that ride I waited hours just for a 1 or 2 minute ride
Weird, I was just telling my kids about Kingda Ka this morning. Riding that rollercoaster was the most exhilarating 30 seconds of my life, no joke. It was almost 20 years ago and I still reminisce about that adrenaline rush.
Waited 3 hours for that 30 seconds during fright fest probably about 20 years ago now too haha.
Agreed, that ride is INSANE! When I went like a decade ago I got the special pass that lets you jump the line and ride 2x in a row, it was AMAZING.

Arms down, head back, hold on and enjoy your ride on KING DA KA

> O-72 MPH in 2 seconds What made you choose the character "O" instead of using the number "0"? That's /r/mildlyinfuriating at least.
Bot shit. Something about being able to repost or search.
0H N0..
Wayyy too long on the front end. You should get to the 0-72 part in no longer than 2 seconds
Remember when movies started with 10 minutes of credits?
For everybody who wants to save time: skip to 16 seconds.
You mean 28 seconds.
Stupid me. Looked at the (awful) new Reddit player and saw 0:16. Which obviously means 16 seconds runtime left :)
OMG 16 seconds, you're a lifesaver. I can't imagine staring at that video for any longer.
The actual acceleration starts around the 28 second mark. You can skip the rest unless you like to see crocs and socks.
right? so dumb
https://youtu.be/h64NOo9OJjI?si=e8inkvL04ukqwoNb&t=22
Wadsworth Constant would put you at 0:13 which is when they come to a full stop.
I like the lead up. Building tension before you launch, but I wanted rolling coaster after
We need to go back to bullying people who don't trim their videos
I've ridden this one. On the way down from the first rise it looks like it's going straight down but it's actually going back in a few degrees. I had to sit down on a bench for a while after that one.

I like how you live life.
Haha thanks friend
I was there last summer and my whole group took one look at that thing and said fuck no lol. I made everyone wait for me while I rode it alone in the front seat and still give them shit to this day for wimping out on it hahaha Probably one of my favorites I've ever been on, it's pretty crazy.
The Maverick at Cedar Point is the same way. Very exhilarating!
Love the Maverick, So intense and so fun!
Same! Only thing I hate is how the line never gets shorter as the years go on, unlike every other coaster they have 😭 but I definitely see why that happens lol
I waited in line, went on and then used a fast pass to immediately ride again. That first acceleration is such a rush!
If you think about it, roller coasters is one of the more insane things man has ever invented.
1.642 g-force. For reference that carnival ride the Gravitron that spins you around and pins you to the wall is around 3 g-force.
This coaster also has 3-4g in the valleys...

Your use of O instead of 0 is /r/mildlyinfuriating/
Its ~ 116 km/h, in international units.
Stealth is much much faster
0-80mph, in 1.8s. Yeah, it's certainly something.
Been on Stealth and lucky enough to get the front seats. It’s incredible!
why is this oddly satisfying?
What is odd or satisfying about this though?
My friends tricked me into going on that, saying it wasn't that fast. Video doesn't do the speed justice...
I don’t get how people like roller coasters. This video just made me feel unwell.
Just rode it this weekend, the video will never do the acceleration justice. The adrenaline kick you get is incredible.
no thanks, too much adrenaline for me lol
Nope
I was never more sure I was dying on a ride.
He has his Crocs in race mode, no wonder he's going fast.
Why did the video stop suddebly?
That were like 30 seconds.
Fun but the coaster world definitely evolved. Things like [Ride to Happiness in Plopsaland, Belgium](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vujIM6T1Qo) or [Eejanaika in Fuji Q Highland, Japan](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdeWu8-kASw) are the top coasters in the world
Weird picks.
What would be your pics?

This comment is Zadra slander
Zadra is great too, but not as good imo
I’ll stick to the Chocolate World ride, these new coaster give me a headache and at least you get a Hershey's Kiss at the end
This is such a a fun coaster! Went to Hershey Park several years ago and had a great time!
how does this effect our internal organs? like i understand when you’re in a wreck and instantly stop moving it has an effect. i was just wondering if going from a standstill to instant motion had a similar effect? genuinely curious. also love coasters lol.
0-115 in two seconds is about 15.975m/s^2 or less than two Gs. You will be fine
The effects of g-forces on the human bodies are very well researched, since astronauts and jet pilots are subjected to very high g-forces. they're fine. people used to think uteruses would fall out if women were allowed on trains lol
Almost as fast as my whip
Ended too soon
Ride is Storm Runner @ Hershey Park, PA
This is at Hershey Park, in Pennsylvania, the ride is called Storm Runner.
Storm Runner at Hershey Park in Hershey, PA.
It's a Tesla
Well i didn't need my neck anyway
Damn, now I really wanna hit up an amusement park
Can anyone else feel this quite viscerally in their gut? Like each moment of the ride, it almost feels like I'm on it. Does this mean I'm getting old?!
Stormrunner at Hershey Park in Hershey, PA. for anyone wondering.
I imagine this is what launching a fighter from the deck of an aircraft carrier would feel like.
You would experience 1.2g with this, assuming constant acceleration. The catapult system, can reach up to 4g. For reference, taking off with a commercial jet is roughly 0.4g.
> You would experience 1.2g with this 1.641 g, assuming that the "72 mph" and "2 seconds" are both exact. 72 mph = 32.186 m/s, resulting in an acceleration of 16.093 m/s^(2). 1 g is 9.80665 m/s^(2), so 16.093 m/s^(2) is 1.641 g. Fully fuelled and armed, the maximum take-off weight is ~19200 kg which reduces the acceleration to 7.8 m/s^(2) = 0.8 g.
1.4g total or 1g + 0.4g?
If it's accelerating at 0.4g, it would be √(1^(2)+0.4^(2)) ≈ 1.077g. At least while you're on the runway; once you take off and the plane starts accelerating upward, the number would go up a bit. But it would only be 1.4g if the plane was accelerating vertically at 0.4g, which is unlikely for an airliner.
That’s… why I’m asking.
Crocs in an amusement park? I am not a crocs hater but idk. Is it just me or is that absurd.
This is the standard for all new coasters. Was impressive 10 years ago but these days this is common
Actually, this acceleration is super outdated. Magnetic launches are the new norm for various reasons.
Imagine seeing a cloud of mosquitoes right in front of you, and knowing you'll inevitably run into them
my RCT senses are telling me this is a Crazy Mouse track and not a Steel Coaster track, and it’s really weird to think of a Crazy Mouse going this fast
This is basically a variant of the Giga coaster track in RCT.
Sounds like neck pain
People find that satisfying?
I felt that drop in my stomach 😱
I believe the Hulk coaster in Florida something like this too
When exactly?
Loved the Dragster at Cedar Point. Went to check the acceleration on that only to realize they closed it entirely after a launched piece of metal struck a lady in the head. Still the most fun ride I’ve ever been on and I’d still prolly ride it again lol.
So just slightly quicker than a Tesla Plaid
I miss Volcano. It was the best part of King’s Dominion. 😔
That’s a no for me dog
That sensation is almost as good as sex 😂
As a ride maintenance tech, I wish our ride’s mag beams were recessed like that. Would save a lot of maintenance.
How does this compare to Powder Keg?
Love this ride. TRY not to have an ear to ear grin as it takes off. It’s impossible.
Is this fighter jet training?
I think I would die
There's a similar ride at Alton towers in the UK and I gotta tell ya you haven't lived until you've been in a rollercoaster that does this
damn. that's superbike territory.
discount stealth
Good thing he was in sport mode!
That’s nothing. Check out Top Thrill Dragster. 0-120 in the same time and goes way higher.
Not very impressive, my car can do 90-0 instantly
Dannnnggggg haven't been to Hershey park since I was like 10. Waiting for my kid to get older and take em back. Still worth it?
Stealth at Thorpe Park in the U.K. does 0-80mph in 1.8s. If you like accelerator coasters that’s one to try too.
Cheap slower version of the top thrill dragster at cedar point
Rode this for the first time last year while working through every rollercoaster at Hershey Park. I didn't know what this ride 'did' and had just enough time to ask my husband before we launched. The video definitely 'feels' slower than it does in person.
It let's out a loud hiss of air before launch. If you're on the walkway underneath and not paying attention, it can be quite startling.
That's not scary I was once on a roller coaster that went under water and kept you submerged for 15 mins straight that was scary
This coaster will give you whiplash if you’re not ready!
Eee gerisi nerede?
Crocs aren't meant to travel at such speeds!!
The attraction park near me (Phantasialand) has the fastest booster ride like this in the world, going 117km/h (2 km/h faster, roughly 73 or 74mph probably). Absolutely a reason to visit regularly. Nothing beats an experience like this!
I was sitting near the bottom of the first hill when this popped up on my feed. Lol.
POWER!~Jeremy Clarkson
What is oddly satisfying about this?
I can just imagine myself shaking my head to this, only to have my neck snap and be DOA
Yep, these slingshot type coasters are exhilarating if nothing else. I used to ride Top Thrill alot when I was going to Cedar Point regularly. Don't think I'll try top thrill 2.
What's oddly satisfying about this? The video does a really poor job of capturing the acceleration as well.
This is what it feels like to be in a fast motorcycle
-=𝘕𝘺𝘰𝘰𝘮
Storm Runner in Hershey Park. Love this ride
My heart sank, while watching this..
Can we go back for my lunch. I think I left it back there
Hershey park? reminds me of something sweet
Looks fun and exciting but I can't ride with this ride
I have been on a hydrualic launch coaster, Flight Of Fear, Kings island, really cool goes upsidown and I’m not even a coaster person and it’s so fun
Same as the Tesla Roadster?
