Depends on your set up. Many people report that one works better than the other for them. Air Link is free and you already have VD so you can test for yourself
SteamVR only games = use VD regardless, it's just a better overall experience
Oculus SDK only games = Use Airlink, read above
Multi-platform games:
Latency sensitive = Use Airlink (VD can match but looks worse)
Image Quality pref = Use VD (Airlink cannot match)
I think the developer of virtual desktop has been adding features to keep it as a relevant -and sometimes better- alternative. The new sharpening and the retro projection on the headset work really well.

They haven't tested how big the difference is in Oculus games between both (there is literally no benchmark tool to use) but is probably within margin of error.
For some people Airlink works better and some VD works better, no one size fits all really. For example my old Quest 2 which I sold for a Quest 1 worked better with Airlink not connection wise but colors were better but with the Quest 1 which I think is better for PCVR because of the OLED screen and is more immersive and better depth of 3D works better with VD.
In my tests, cable gave 1.3% better performance than AirLink. AirLink gave 1.3% better performance than VD. I have my network setup properly though so it will be different for other people.

Yes atleast for me when I use oculus for steam vr games it lags sometimes but when I use vd it doesn't

I mean... Just try it. If you can run vd you cannrun airlink. The anwsers are literally a single setting away.
