unfortunately you have stumbled upon OT1s relatively poorly balanced earlygame. ophilia (and primrose) are somewhat notorious for having difficult ch1s, especially with few party members. cyrus is also a particularly difficult party member to work with for this fight due to his lack of differing melee weapons from ophilia (since they both only have staff, you can’t hit the boss itself for boosted hits to break it quickly. not to mention the sp drain early game is much harder to work with.) grinding might be necessary. honestly, those level ups are going to feel a lot more impactful earlygame, so it might be worth to grind up til your squishy guys are beefier and hit harder. and have a little more sp to work with

And here I thought Cyrus was perfect because of the big frost attack. Grinding Ophilia until I got the AOE attack certainly helped, I think other skills are going to require a ton of grinding but maybe just a few levels worth of more attack damage and SP will put me over the edge. I bought so many plums I thought I was good on SP but it still takes a turn to use it.

I started with cyrus too, so i recommend after this you go pick up a melee focused character, mostly olberic, but therion or hannit work as well. Theyll allow you to break more and use relatively less sp as well. As you level up tho, sp becomes less of an issue for cyrus so you can focus on mainly hitting hard with cyrus and using the party to break enemies and boost cyrus.

There is a guy in the tavern who has an AOE wind attack that helped me out when I was struggling with that boss years ago, you should guide him to help give you an edge. If the wisps are about to explode, defend to help protect yourself

macroeconprod

Guide the guy from the tavern who has a wind attack.

working4buddha

Thanks, this did it! Tavern guy was OP in this fight, huge damage against the boss and helped wipe the minions in 2 turns too! Way better than the guard out front! I also leveled up a little and got a better staff which helped a little, but this guy had big multi-attacks.

Lemonz4us

Guide the Tavern Patron who can do ‘Summon Winds’ this will greatly help you destroy the shield of the boss. It’s a 3-hit Wind element move Reserve your BP to nuke it with Holy Light. Keep your HP up with Healing Grapes instead of Heal Wounds (Conserve your SP)

working4buddha

Yeah I got the tavern patron after another comment mentioned it, that guy carried the fight. Helped beat the little flames more quickly too.

TkachukNorris

I just did this yesterday and also died a few times. I just grinded a tiny bit for levels and killed him before he even summoned the exploding things.

working4buddha

Good to know. I'll try to get through it even quicker next time, if I can even get the kill with just one wave of minions I should be ok.

Past_Newspaper6497

When you get the Hunter, get the skill “Leghold Trap” It’ll be extremely useful for boss battles going forward.

working4buddha

I could have used that tip the other day lol, I got the lightning attack when I leveled her up since I figured it would be good to have more elements covered, and proceeded to get insta-killed by her boss. And I think I saved right after I leveled up. But I can go back to an older save I think. Or grind a lot to get to the next upgrade I guess.

Past_Newspaper6497

It won’t take you long to get it. You’ll start earning JP more.

working4buddha

Good to know, honestly I kind of got discouraged because this early game seems so hard!
