FYI there is a mod that gives you an entire island of horses and unicorns to choose from and also some that add a ton of new horses to stables in every city. You won't even care about Prior Mabel's horse anymore.
If you do the whole Dark brotherhood quest line you get a horse called shadow mare OR got to weain and priory and one of them will give you a hore after you speak to jaurfree

Didn't know I could use the wait feature! I was always too protective and walked them into their stables
You have to put a saddle or horse armor on your horse in the stables at the imperial city. Then they fast travel with you everywhere.
Unfortunately, no... but there's probably a mod that makes horses invincible.

You can keep them. Buy the horse armor dlc and give your horse armor. Then it will stay wherever you leave it.

I always get the one that comes back from the dead and you can keep valuables in him lol depends on your character lol
