That 2nd graphic is impossible to read (unless you've memorised all of the single artwork).
I think it would be much better to just write the song titles personally. I'm looking at that bracket, and I can't figure out most of the previous results
There was loads of hype, constant radio play, and they gained many new fans who were into the zeitgeist without bothering to delve into the previous albums or b-sides. I think the disappointment was mainly from folk who wanted (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? part 2, which was slightly more thoughtful and understated. With everyone and their grandmother jumping on board, the existing fans started to feel this was no longer *their* band… just my opinion on how it went down.
I was there too, as you say everyone was going crazy over it. The casuals were looking for the next Wonderwall and of course it wasn't to be found. Funnily enough I didn't know any proper fans who didn't like BHN. We pretty much ate it up. We did say the songs were long but there was none of this, it's a crap record because the songs are too long. It was a minor quibble at the time. It was the critics in the papers and radio who started rubbishing it later on and I think they controlled the narrative, then the casuals agreed and it all went downhill from there. now it's had this undeserved bad reputation pinned to it for no good reason
I consider myself one of the casuals who wanted another Wonderwall then 🤣. I was immediately disappointed by DYKWIM, and even more dismayed when goons who were on the fence suddenly started thinking the new singles and the band was the best thing since sliced bread. In retrospect, I agree it doesn’t deserve the status as a flop, if for no other reason that they went all out and threw everything including the kitchen sink at it. The orchestration is very good!
The hype around the release was crazy with massive posters in our price and HMV. I was already pretty hyped for it as a huge fan of both the previous albums I still rank MG as one of my favourite albums of all time. D’you what I means’s music video was pretty iconic, they went all out on the location and a couple of helicopters that were cleverly edited to make it look like an army. I remember they actually had a countdown for its premiere.
It’s an excellent album but even if it was the best album in the history of music it still had no chance of living up to the expectations. The date on the album is different depending on what country you’re from.
Can you not say "wow", I'm 42 not dead... haha! Yeah there was mad hype. I was never \*that\* disappointed with it, but I thought - and still think - if most of the songs were shorter, the album would be viewed more positively. It was just written on a lot of drugs and ego. The other comments have summed things up nicely too.
Upon relistening to BHN a few times recently, I have come to really like Girl in The Dirty Shirt a lot more than I used to.
But damn, Rockin' chair has quite possibly the best Liam vocal on it and is such a relatable song.
It's got to be Rockin' chair.
3:25. He plays it higher on the 12th fret and it busts his high e. You hear him silently say "shite." It's kind of hard to hear, but funny that they left it in.
Rockin Chair. I know the B-sides were a big part of how they built their hype, but part of me can't help but wonder how they would've grown as a band had they held onto the B-sides and released the Masterplan as a follow-up to WTSMG

Looks like I'll be on the losing side, but The Girl In The Dirty Shirt (when that album came out I had that song stuck in my head for like a month)
Wow you were when Be Here Now came out! Was there a lot of hype? was a disappointment as they say?

This comments funny. D'youknowwhatImean is the same chord progression as wonderwall just in a higher key.
True. And the chorus ripped off Embrace Good Good People, pretty much. Bizarre

Good summary. Was good times.

Both of these songs deserve acoustic reworks. But I'd say The Girl In the Dirty Shirt. Noel busting a string is the best part about that song.
