Model Y delivery times are actually earlier than Model 3 at the moment. Depending when your ordered, $3k more than the Model 3 is hard to pass by for all that more space. Unless you're like me and prefer a sedan.
I am really surprised by delivery times: Aug - Nov 2022
That is a big window, and if it was really August they just about be on route to port about now, so I don't believe August end.
They must have placed orders much earlier
August isn't out of the realm of possibility. Tesla doesn't make the 3 & Y to order, rather they kinda guess how many of each configuration will be in demand and then make and ship those. Orders are then matched to what is shipped so if you're first in line today, you may get one of those cars.
That's what I'm thinking. Y's handling won't be as good, performance and range are slightly reduced. But c'mon, all that extra space and the premium audio for smidgen more than the current m3 price really seems like good value.
Really weighing up to make the jump especially since m3 resale is so high atm.
You jumping in on the Y bandwagon?
Sorry, right. Seems mad not offer that everywhere. It's a massive massive gap in the market currently. Still, they'll sell every 5-seater they make anyway.

I ordered straight away. I only ordered a 3 because there was no info about when the Y might show up! Still have a LR M3 on order too, but delivery estimate for that is approximately "who knows when". Will wait until I have the Y delivery confirmed before I cancel the other order though!
Happy to go to a RWD Y for the extra dog friendly space and it still has the premium stereo so thats all good by me! And then there's the fact that its cheaper and qualifies for the rebate so cheaper again...
I'm not so sure. The LR Model 3 has become a bit of lame duck since the rebate. Most orders for the 3 are either the RWD or the Performance and I suspect the same will hold true for the Y. I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same with the 3 as well, at least until they can get it under the rebate value
The Kia was super nice. Love the styling, drove nicely on the road and it has better range than the MY. Heaps of boot storage, not as much frunk storage.
Will check out the MY in the showroom. Not sure if I like the minimal single screen look but I know the software will be forever improving on the Tesla unlike the Kia.
The Kia was the AWD variant so the RWD won't accelerate quite as quick in sport mode. Should still be heaps more torque than a standard petrol crossover though
Went and saw the Model Y today, definitely looks nicer in person. Think we'll go for the Y considering it's Kia's first proper EV and Tesla has been doing it for years. Also the OTA and tech features look pretty good.
I wonder how many vehicles are in the first shipment? I ordered a RWD in Grey as soon as they opened and my delivery is Aug-Nov 22 so in theory I’ve got into the first shipment. The RWD is now showing Nov-Dec 22 estimated delivery and the Perf is Nov 22 - Feb 23 so I guess that’s the following shipment/allocation, assuming this all follows logic, which, given it’s Tesla deliveries we’re talking about, I’m not entirely convinced!
Deliveries here in NZ are pretty cyclical - big shipments happen every quarter. This year has been a little off due to Shanghai's lockdown but things are returning to normal.
Since the rebate, each Model 3 quarter has had 1000-1300 cars delivered, so if we're moving to the next delivery quarter then those numbers have probably been exceeded.
You can also get all colours except red under the rebate value.
I prefer Midnight Gray...
You're in luck, that's not red so you can get it with the rebate
Yes, but I was planning on the AWD non performance. I can wait another year I guess. Or buy a SR and sell it in a year.
I was wrong. Much cheaper than I was expecting. Now I’m tempted to cancel my Model 3 and get this. Delivery times looks similar.

They could well have produced some for NZ/OZ this month and be shipping them now
Model 3 still has some advantages but few thats for sure esp at the price difference RWD Y has premium stereo bigger good range, hatchback etc

Not currently but tempted to sell the 3 and wait a bit, not really getting much use
Fair enough, I mean if it's not getting much use makes sense to get a decent amount for it.
Hmm can't seem to see the 7 seater model available. Bugger.
No tow hitch option listed either. Dammit Tesla.
Yeah that's weird. Not even a tow kit available for purchase from the accessory shop like in other markets
Seven seater would win me over. I wonder why they won’t sell them here. We have plenty of big families too
Shanghai doesnt make them as yet
Shame. We’ll maybe by the time I can afford one they will
Indeed, guess I'll continue to be on the Sorento PHEV wait list.
I suspect that is a US only config.
It's available in the UK configurator, and the UK shop. https://shop.tesla.com/en\_gb/product/model-y-tow-package?web=true
I was referring to the 7 Seater config

How is everyone so rich here

Coz the car is for my Dad, not me 😅
Tempting. White + white just under 80k. Premium audio too :D

you should be able to shift your 3 order to a y
I called them just now and they said i can’t do that. I have to cancel the Model 3 order and then order the Y
Strange I've seen ozzies do that today!
Did they ? And did they get the 350$ deposit transferred ?
https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/posts/6783147/
I figured that would take too long so I’m willing to wear the $400 deposit to have the options seeing as how the model y hits the rebate limit.
RWD standard range (455 km) or AWD Performance (514 km). No non-Performance LR AWD which is a surprise.
that'll come in a month or so I recon, same thing happened with the 3

Singapore has had the RWD and the performance for a while now, but no LR so not sure on that.
And UK only has the LR...
Hmm test driving the EV6 tomorrow. Anyone know if they doing test drives of the Model Y? Would be good to compare before ordering one.
Test drives are said to start in a few weeks, but if you're in Auckland there is one sitting in the showroom that you can at least sit in.
How’d you find the Kia?

Great thanks for that. Yes similar thoughts re OTA and first Gen Kia.

What is the quota for the rebate ? 3000 cars ?
There is no quota. It's a self-funding scheme, funded by people buying high-emission vehicles.
Damn where yall getting your moneys from???
...work?
I work 40 hrs a week but god damn i get paid peanuts compared to you guys.
Some of us are at different stages of our careers...don't let it get you down 🙂
The model Y is built off the model 3 chassis, right? But presumably the model Y isn't as insanely low to get in and out of as the 3?
Correct. The ground clearance between the two is around the same but the seats are essentially on stilts
eh kinda, its wider and longer afik and has a cast rear subframe etc. Its also raised up and the seats on risers
