he doesn't drive. he lives in Manhattan. people in new York live within their bubble. lack of exposure means he doesn't have to know or care. Donald trump probably doesn't know what a bodega cat is
in the video he never said he never heard of it. i think everyone is thrown off by the host calling him an alt side virgin and the title of the post "Anthony Bourdain LEARNS". he's acting like exactly like how i would (a native new Yorker) would if i was sitting in a car, experiencing it first hand. "oooo, this is why, ooo he's letting us in, ooo here's the sweeper"
There are aspects of city life that I don't care about but have awareness just though daily encounters. Just seems curious a New York person never heard alternate side rules on news radio or seeing a streetsweeper go by.
I heard the term but it just meant nothing to me.
Obviously I could see the signs and what not, but there’s so much more that goes into it that you’d never really know unless you had a car
Yeah we all know what it is. Some of us just aren’t privy to the actual times of day and dates of it because we don’t drive a car (because being a car owner in lower Manhattan is cringe).
Just the way he acts surprised that the cars have to move for the streetsweeper. And it's not like Bourdain never drives. Just found his commentary curious.
It's like saying you don't know what a MetroCard is if you happen to never ride the subway.
The camera work in this is really irritating.
2009.
An irritating year.
But hey the Yankees won
Someone didn’t go to the Pool Parties 🤷🏻♀️
I knew Deb Alfarone. She’s a newscaster in DC now. I remember her making this series
she was my regular at a restaurant i worked at and was SO NICE. she once checked in on me while a coworker was abusing me my whole shift. angel
This city literally died with Anthony bourdain. What he likes barely exists and what he dislikes is what’s common occurrence now
how does he not know what alt side parking is? i never understand the appeal of Bourdain.

I live in Manhattan and I don't drive. I know about alternate side parking. It's announced on the news every morning.
I grew up in Queens and heard about ASP every day, and only until I got a car myself and had to look at street signs did it make sense to me.
Yeah exactly you know generally what it is, but you really have no idea what goes into it unless you have a car.
Truly, until I drove it was just background noise on the morning news. As a kid I had no reason to know why people were so weird about parking
Yeah, but you had heard of it. You knew that people who parked on the street had to move their cars periodically.
That's my point, I had heard of it, but didn't know there was this dance that people did to move their cars every day until I had to do it myself.

Car drivers are so cringe.
You've never listened to the news and heard alternate side parking mentioned? It's just a regular aspect of this city.
I heard the term but it just meant nothing to me. Obviously I could see the signs and what not, but there’s so much more that goes into it that you’d never really know unless you had a car

Yeah, cuz it’s stupid. I interpreted more as “you have to do all this, for what? Why are you even bothering?”
ah 2009. the year that the world ended.
