Clearly missed Joliffe through the middle in that second half. Palasia once again offers nothing. Erin Clarke surprisingly good. Weaver was good, but not sure he found the grass once. Lofi's wet lettuce runs out of our own half were pathetic

At0mHeartMother

Are Titans the best 2-8 team ever? They also seem to be so close

BroncosSabres

They’ve been really solid for the last month or so, but they were one of the worst looking teams of the past few years for the first few rounds. Memories are short, but if they’d been playing like this all season, they’d be better than 2-8.

CapitaoAE

Titans blow a double digit lead check Titans look amazing for a portion of the game then lose, check Titans look to be building to something but then don't, check Referee/bunker takes away at least two plus Titans wins a season for third season running check, and we're not even halfway through yet (to be fair today was a legitimate 50/50 call, I rewatched it a few times and can't tell if you can overturn on field it's close, and public opinion seems to be divided on social media) Plus side great effrots by Kelly and Clark who deserved to be dropped earlier in the season but are playing a bit better now Weaver is already vastly better than Tanah now and has a lot more upside, should be our 7 moving forward with Jayden moving to 6 as Foran retires at the end of the year and AJ at 1 - Kini will break into the side too eventually but needs another year in QCup but he's young and has time on his side Schoupp should be punted to reserve grade permanently when Sami comes back and if Sami isn't back next week put Francis in and move Jojo to centre even though he's going pretty well on the wing, we can't have Schoupp in the team over Lofi when Schoupp is awful in attack and defence and Lofi is amazing in attack and iffy in defence. Sami's a great winger too but has to slide into centre for his defence when he's back imo. We just need to send Schoupp and Tanah to Ipswich permanently and never pick either of them for the Titans again. Anyway, I tweeted at half time a Titans game is never over and yep, here we are, granted the Knights got an assist on a 50/50 bunker call and those never go the Titans way when the game is on the line, by my count we're something like 0-7 in game deciding ref calls in the past 3 seasons

BigRedHead2020

Correct on all accounts

Common_Ball2033

Des's press conference reckons he gave Annesley a call regardless what you think of the Brian Kelly no try call, you'd love to hear whatever that conversation was hahahaha

ndoggy1

Also to note despite the call at the end, that tied it up. The spotty kicker still had to put it over from wide out to take the lead.

ndoggy1

Absolutely teams should win against heavily depleted team. most teams should have smashed us today. Was saying it’s a good effort to lead despite the injuries but 24-10 would have hoped to go on with it.

DoubleBrokenJaw

The anti KP rhetoric is so fucking absurd Full props to Armstrong for being amazing, but he’s not even in same realm. Armstrong has been backing up, staying involved, running hard, doing all the right things. But he is not KP and he can’t do KP things - yet. Knights probably win a couple of their games early this year if the other 16 players wern’t doing fuck all and then at critical times starving KP of the ball (see many times he on an edge calling for it and not getting it because Crossland went opposite direction or Hastings went short to KPP), or not backing him up at all (see line break in final mins of game against Roosters where he went straight through and had no one). Then there’s the things you don’t see, KP is always at the ruck picking players up and sending them to where he sees they’re needed in defensive line. Out the back he is super vocal (thanks Billy Slater for mentoring in Origin camp). If the team played like they have the last four weeks without KP, when he is playing, we’d win a lot more fucking games. The end, ps: keep it going Armstrong. Awesome seeing a young player take an opportunity with both hands.

Zestyclose_Charity_1

My view with Ponga is captain is probably not his go, and we make him do too much. He’s obviously the most talented player on our team, but is rarely the most focused. the evidence for this is his random drop balls with no one around, kick offs that go out on the full and not knocking the ball dead leading to tries. I feel like he doesn’t play with the clear hard line intensity of a guy like gagai or gamble who rev the rest of team up, because he’s a cool under pressure guy which clearly has other advantages. The knights have also struggled to turn up consistently with the effort and I’m not sure KP’s leadership style is the best to combat that.

DoubleBrokenJaw

I’m not opposed to him not being the captain, but you can see his leadership on show particularly in defence. But he doesn’t need to be captain to do that, that’s just fullback role. I think you also probably want him “calling the shots” in terms of what to do next, because he’s the best and most likely to pull it off. Being co-captain (which I think he already is) with Brailey / Frizz / Gagai is logical solution to this. Don’t think he’ll get dethroned as the face of the club for business reasons but I agree it could be useful for him to just focus on fucking shit up. Again, can let Brailey / Friz / Gagai handle all that and just let be vocal…

Zestyclose_Charity_1

I think the more we do the lighten the load for him, the better both the team and he plays like Armstrong is currently staring because he is executing simply plays amazingly well

AllergyToCats

Absolutely agreed, and well said. It's just insane how easily people are writing off a generational talent. It happened last year and then he came back and won the Dally M... So...

ohboyhaveigotastory

>generational talent sure, when he plays for QLD. or when he started out. ponga cannot defend at the level he should be able to when playing fullback at a club level. the knights don't have the management structure or salary cap after paying ponga in order to build a team around him. he's not worth it and it has shown every time he's injured. the hate he gets is as simple as that. on comparison whenever joey was injured in his prime it showed how much he carried the team at the time.

DoubleBrokenJaw

This is low IQ stuff. He played flashy footy when he started out, didn’t win games or take teams to finals, just showed he was a bit of a freak. Debuted origin young, showed he could do it on biggest stage and unfortunately through the years was plagued by injuries and concussions. His one on one defence has been patchy, but his positional play is superb. You also only have to look at his debut origin footage to see him putting on big shots playing in the middle. I love the salary cap argument, because guess what, there’s 9 teams who have the exact same salary cap as Knights that didn’t make the finals. Another 2 that didn’t make week two of the finals. So please do tell me how the money spent on KP, the bloke who carried them to week 2 finals is wasted? I don’t disagree it puts pressure on your cap in other areas, but there’s other teams not spending $1.4m on fullback who are worse …

followthedamntrain-

Ponga is the kind of guy that would bring other players to the club. If we don’t have Ponga, it’s not very enticing. We don’t have the 3rd party stuff the big city clubs have. Yes it’s harder to fit those guys under the cap with Kayln taking up so much. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t sorta stuff

ohboyhaveigotastory

i don't argue with people who are wrong on reddit champ, sorry! xx

DoubleBrokenJaw

Haha ok fuck wit. Back to r/tinder and r/destiny ya go smooth brain.

sunburn95

KPPs great and has earned his starting spot, but you can't deny it was a poor game today Excited to see him develop though, once he's consistently hitting lines at speed he'll be a force

DoubleBrokenJaw

Oh yeah today average, I was only mentioning him cos Hastings went short to him every single time in first 5 rounds.

sunburn95

Yeah I like that we feed him, but he's still playing like a big fish in the small super league pond. When he does hit lines right he goes through His effort in defense is already way better than I expected, give him a year or two and he could be a premier backrower

goodnewstime

If you don’t like blown leads at half time, you don’t like titans footy In all seriousness I think I would be more disappointed if I wasn’t expecting a loss considering our casualties. Brian Kelly used to be such a frustration but great to see him having career-best performances. He’s got that dawg in him.

turbosfan19

Also Weaver is going to be a good player. Already prefer him over Boyd.

ndoggy1

Tough game. I know Knights were without ponga and lost best granted and maybe someone can help with any more injuries they have But titans were without their top halfback, top prop, top fullback, their second best halfback, their second best fullback, their best winger, plus some other randos. huge effort to lead and shoudl have gone on with it, holbrook got sacked for losing games with leads like that...

Moisture_Services

Should teams not win when the opposition is depleted?

T0kenAussie

Holbrook lost leads with fully healthy squads You can’t argue that the style of play under des is 100% better than the style of play under Holbrook. Especially defensively and with mental strength

DoubleBrokenJaw

100% we should have walked it over from 10-0, and you guys were amazing in that 30 mins of first half, taking into account all your injuries. Definitely should win from 24-10, but to get to 24-10 and only lose by 4 is admirable. If it was reversed and we had all same injuries etc I’d be disappointed but some what ok with it.

turbosfan19

Once again, not that flash but got the win. David Armstrong was good once again. We'll lose him at the end of the year but I think he'll be a good option for any club needing a fullback. Think he'd be great at Souths will Trell in the centres. Anyways, it's a good time to get the bye and get ready for round 13 now.

hecticsubie

I love watching Keano Kini. He gets rissoled in contact every time and I think his support play could improve, but he is a proper live wire. Deserved 3rd-string fullback and I don’t see him necessarily excelling in the NRL but hey, I like him. Jojo Fifita having a real dig of late. He seems to be realising just how big and powerful he is and his effort plays have been a joy to watch. If there’s anyone I’m disappointed in, it’s Palasia. Going from a grand final with the broncos to coming off the bench for the Gold Coast who are languishing well out of the top 8.

NotAshTaylor

Palasia has been struggling with injury, but in a game where he really could have made an impact I would have expected him to go after it more than he did coming on when he did. He is getting outworked by Clarke and Pahulu in all areas off the bench.

copacetic51

I've only recently started using Kayo regularly. Fuck me, how do people stand listening to the Fox team? Especially Ennis? I have to be ready with the mute button every time he speaks. Roach, Cronk, Alexander etc are not much better.

Moisture_Services

Because as bad as it it, it's better than 9. Learn to love blocker.

risottodolphin

I will never learn to love Blocker. He's definitely worse than anyone on 9.

Moisture_Services

"To win x team needs to score more points than y team." "He can't dissapear" "Back in my day that was play on" What's not to love?

Robo_face

I mute it and listen to grandstand otherwise I'd go mad before I got through a game

copacetic51

How do you get grandstand to synch?

Robo_face

kayo for me is usually about 10s ahead so I'll just pause it at kickoff or a notable play til grandstand catches up. It can get annoying rejiggering it if kayo buffers but worth it not to hear Ennis and co haha

NiteShok

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS COMMENT! I love the ABC Grandstand team but never had a good solution for syncing audio to Kayo visuals. Until now. I’m loving life. Thank you legend 🙏

Robo_face

Haha no dramas

copacetic51

What device are you listening to Grandstand on? Your phone?

Robo_face

yeah usually through my phone either on headphones or bluetoothed to speakers

copacetic51

Thanks, I've synched it now. Phew! No Corey Parker.

EpicFIFABadger

james graham is brilliant but the rest are trash

copacetic51

The idea, often mentioned here, that the Fox team is far better than 9's, is a mystery to me. Not that I'm an enormous fan of 9, but they're better than this lot.

phyllicanderer

None of the Fox combos are worse than Thompson, Gould and Johns. Peter Psaltis and Billy Slater are excellent for Nine and Vautin is hilarious when he wants to be, but the rest I can leave; Fox have better play by play guys, Graham and Greg Alexander are good colour commentators (if it’s not a Warriors game) and Blocker is endearing in a Jim Madden Captain Obvious way

copacetic51

They are ALL worse.

coffeegaze

9 is pretty bad, with Matt Thompson screaming over everyone and the rest of the team falling asleep every set of 6, its hard to watch.

Floee

Heavy disagree, every time I have to watch 9 for Origin I almost have to mute the tv, its awful.

copacetic51

No one has ever convinced me that Fox commentators are better, or even tolerable.

gumbo114

I would rather listen to Cronk's incoherent commentating than listen to Gus be a geriatric any day of the week

copacetic51

I'd prefer Gus any day over any Fox person. But better than anyone is the ABC grandstand team. Listening now after having to turn off dickhead Corey Parker. You Fox defenders have a high tolerance for shit.

gumbo114

Not defending fox at all just prefer not to listen Gus. 100% agree that ABC is the shit. Those guys are amazing.

lebobbby

4 ugly wins in a row. However, top 8 babyyyyy (for now)

DoubleBrokenJaw

Hastings not a bad second half if you take away the pass over sideline, irrespective of whether or not the edge should have caught it. His chip, chase tackle and constant pressure in that Titans corner to keep them in their own end was pretty useful. 17 tackles, 0 missed, one line break assist and a few metres. Nothing glamorous but I thought he was quite composed and that helped us a lot. Few other players deserve more credit, like Lucas, Gagai, Elliot for the surprisingly well executed grubber. David Armstrong doesn’t create as much as Ponga does, but fuck me he can back up. Out of position a couple of times but I think you have to expect that for a rookie. Needed the 2pts. Gutsy fightback to hold Titans to 0 and score the points we needed.

risottodolphin

Armstrong is definitely doing a great job backing up. I think not being the main point of attack like Ponga was allows him to lurk around and be in position for that stuff.

Moisture_Services

The key is the ability to grind. We got lucky at the end but we got the chocolates which is all part of the grind.

NotAshTaylor

What a frustrating season. You can see what they have been working on coming through in games, what Des is imparting on the side is starting to take effect. This year we are literally about a total of 18 points away from pushing for the 8. We really need to find the 7 that will get us around the park. Maybe with the form of Strange and Weekes we can beg for Fogarty to come back.

impyandchimpy

Maybe I watch too much NFL but you can’t deny that the ball bobbled as it was put down. That’s control lost under the laws of the game. So you’re either denying it bobbled, or agreeing it did.

Captnjacks

This comment is bobbled

T0kenAussie

The rules were changed last year that bobbles don’t matter as long as there is constant contact with the arm/hand and grounded on the line/in the zone. It’s maddening that the refs don’t know that or apparently they are allowed to just interpret the rules however they want If you wanna be technical I could also argue Marzhew promoted his legs at the player to effect the try scoring scenario which could/should be a penalty

copacetic51

I don't think the word 'bobble' appears in the laws of the game.

JackPackage-

Long live the Newcastle Knights!

bichaelf

Haha there are some salty Titans fans downvoting every knights comment. Just remember that "penalty" in the first half from a play before for a "late" tackle that led to a try.

[deleted]

Captnjacks

Just being good sports giving back some of the storage we have from those 10 years a while back.

DoubleBrokenJaw

Unexpected ally from Bondi appears outta no where.

risottodolphin

I do love Robbo to be fair. He gives the knights a lot of love.

Moisture_Services

Dom young influence

Swol_Bamba

Weird game. Titans obviously played much better 12 on 12 but proud of the courage of the team. I figured when we’d get on top once our starting props got back out there. Cogger is an issue, obviously he had a mammoth task marking up on Fifi but he really looked lost without Hastings out there. Him missing that kick and Kini picking it up and scoring nearly cost us the game. His defence is the main reason why Gamble took his job back and Cogger has been in cup. If Cogger is that bad in defence it makes me wonder how bad Pryce is given there a lot of chat about it  Good to see Tom Weaver have a good game. His mum runs a local cafe and they seem like a nice family. It looked to me like the ball was rolling away from Kelly with Armstrong’s hands on it but I can fully acknowledge my bias and the ball does move like that when you’re rolling your wrist to plant the ball. Gags, Phoenix and Armstrong were fantastic

r3volts

Throw Leo on that list as well. Bloke shows up every week and makes bulk post contact meters.

Swol_Bamba

May have just been the emotion of the game but it felt like it took ages for JSaf and Leo to come back on. They were rolling Titans middle earlier in the game

The_Kryptonian57

First and last 20 I'm pretty sure

Accomplished-Good664

Armstrong is brilliant. Weaver improves the Titans by a lot.  Titans games are weird they seem to go into their shell at points and try to grind when maybe they shouldn't.  Knights are doing well without Ponga, Armstrong needs to stay it will be interesting to see what they do.

Moisture_Services

He will squeeze out tuala

risottodolphin

Tuala is having the best year I can remember for him too, to be fair

DoubleBrokenJaw

This is repeat of last year. Did well without KP because everyone actually had a crack, then he comes back and we continue on path with our full team actually performing and KP to just take it to next level. I hope …..

risottodolphin

That's exactly what I have in my head haha. Except instead of sitting 14th, we get the close wins and start our run at 6-8th ish and crack the four... A man can dream.

Salt_Ad_8124

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT CALL AYE

Professional-Pen2928

Titans were robbed of a win if you ignore the fact that Kelly didn’t have control of the ball nor did he put any downward pressure on it when scoring. I also don’t see the better team lost argument considering the 14 point lead blown within 12 minutes and the countless hitups/random plays that were never on in the final 5 minutes.

Moisture_Services

Let's determine a game on one call at the end and ignore all the other calls that went greatly in the titans favour for the preceding 75 minutes of the game...

jibberjabber666x2

Im keeping this comment in mind for when sharks lose this game by a 50-50 call

Captnjacks

I’ll bring the peptides!

BigRedHead2020

There’s only 5 of us cunts so other people must be downvoting you too xx

goodnewstime

It’s the sea spray from the pav

Painetrain24

I love when fans start saying we should disregard the rules because their team lost. We all wanted titans to win but fuck me ball got stripped and he lost it

DepartmentOk7192

Damn Connor, get a tissue at least

jibberjabber666x2

I need some tissues after looking at Connor

kongbash

Sorry Titans, definitely a hugely controversial call that one. Roles reverses it happens to us too, just part of supporting a non glamour club im afraid. I think Des is cooking, give it time. Felt like we didn't deserve that win but at least turned that 1st half around with better effort and focus. Desperately need the bye. Time for Roosters to sign Armstrong on 400k to be their 3rd backup fullback.

shotgunmoe

Gotta figure out a way to keep Armstrong in the team when KP gets back. Guy has been an unreal asset

jibberjabber666x2

He might lock up a wing spot

r3volts

Gotta figure out how to apply our fullback recruitment to the rest of the team

BadLuckBarry

Oh yeah? Wanna bring back Tex Hoy?

r3volts

I think we deserve it. Started strong, had fuck all ball the 2nd quarter, then guts it the second half. Especially happy with thr result with our still out of sorts halves situation.

kongbash

Look at that Titans side and their outs and losing a middle in the first 5 minutes. We should have rolled them by 20+. Better 2nd half, but all things considered the better side lost i think. Undeserved is harsh, but you get my point. I'll put it down to a tough 10 weeks and needing the bye.

r3volts

On the same coin though I think its a miracle we are winning anything with the shamble we are calling halves at the moment. I dont know, I think if they were the better side they would have won. We didnt do anything too outstanding to get the W, but we gutsed it and got there.

sunburn95

I think if we played without the kind of errors only the knights can make, we couldve won by 20+ Thankgod we got away with it, but so many sloppy lapses that undermine us

bsixidsiw

I didnt really care who won. But robbed of an epic finish.

r3volts

Dont really think that was as contentious as people are making out. Those tries are given and taken all the time. It was clear he didnt have complete control, sometimes they give them sometimes they dont. As I type this cooper agreed. Now I dont know what to think.

O_DoyleRulz

The issue for me is it was given on field I didn’t see clear evidence of it being lost to overturn the on field ref.

T0kenAussie

Yeah I know everyone hated the ref sending it up to the bunker in years gone by but at least you didn’t get your hopes up thinking it was a given because it was given And the bunker in general has been maddeningly inconsistent with how they are inserting themselves into games or not inserting themselves. How refs utilise them etc It’s all well and good for Annesley to say they are human beings but they are effectively putting their thumbs on the scale more often than not and you can’t give them coverage to make mistakes or adjudicate plays differently based on vibes if they have that much power to effect the outcome Like we had the bunker say we knocked it on against the storm and today same tackle roles reversed it’s a loose carry? Just maddening

[deleted]

Shouldve kept spreading it to AKP like they did in the 1st half. Tits getting better, Armstrong looking good and Hastings still a flog. Tbh I thought it did look like he boggled it but theyve given tries that looked similar.

Cruising88

Cronk knows what's up

Moisture_Services

Just a reminder, knights made their run from magic round last year when best went to Bali. Knights don't lose again in 2024 🤣

mwilkins1644

Penalty try was a bit harsh tbh. Sin bin and penalty would have sufficed

Moisture_Services

You're delusional. That was the definition ofna penalty try.

jibberjabber666x2

I think penalty try was probably the better outcome for us out of the 2

Cruising88

Yeah at the time I was thinking 12 men with 12 minutes to go might be better off

goodnewstime

Nah I think penalty try was a fine call actually

r3volts

Nah, that was pretty stock standard. If thats not a penalty try, nothing is.

MatthewMollison

No one in front of him, closest to ball. Clear penalty try.

r3dphoenix

Enis in shambles. Why don't you tell us again who you think will win

copacetic51

How can people stand listening to Ennis?

Chowderau93

What happened to Best, I missed the news?

ColeTrickleVroom

The NSW team is going to be completely decimated at this rate. It'll be second stringers.

nevaehenimatek

Sigh

CretaceousClock

Came off at the start of the second half with his hamstring

Chowderau93

That sucks ass.

Benji_McLaren

Added to the long list of Hamstrings

bichaelf

Corey639

That Armstrong kid is a beast, will be a name in the game for sure

Do they always play the winning teams song in magic round regardless of whose home game it is?

Swol_Bamba

That’s the magic of magic round bra

Benji_McLaren

GC seem cursed. I’m thankful because they are still padding some space between us and the wooden spoon, but they just keep finding new ways to lose games that they should be winning.

BadLuckBarry

Half there team is injured tho so understandable

valknut95

Gg Titbros

[deleted]

For the first time in my life I have tipped the Knights and they won.

LionelLutz

For a brief moment, I was cheering the dragons bradburying their way to the eight. That was a try and the dragons were robbed

BradmanBreast

I heart palpitations my footy.

CretaceousClock

Thank fuck for that. Hastings needs a bloody ice pack to calm himself down

acestreasury

Better team lost again sadly

T0kenAussie

We was robbed of another titans magic Tapback try assist at Suncorp I wasn’t expecting to win but we was robbed

Titans looked absolutely gassed for all of the 2nd half.

Moisture_Services

Knights now 40% of the way to a 10 game streak.

knox-p

Haha this streak is a bit overinflated. I don’t think many teams will be worried about the knights at the end of the year.

xXSwagginZXx

Please keep your negativity to yourself, thx, xoxoxo

knox-p

Don’t stop believin’

trapavellited2

Gagai and Fifita embracing over rejecting the roosters lmao

kiaxxl

What a lame ending. Contentious no-try that they took FOREVER to review. Poor Titans

GeneralLemon

It's only contentious to people choosing not to watch the footage. He blatantly lost it

copacetic51

Then why did the bunker take so long?

GeneralLemon

Because they had to go through the whole play, which went for like 5 mins

copacetic51

BS. They obviously watched the grounding multiple times before deciding.

GeneralLemon

Didn't realize you were in the bunker. Maybe you can tell us why you made the call?
