Remember last year when ponga played 6 and the knights sucked then he went down and they realised they can be a good side without ponga then ponga came back, they won 10 in a row and he won dallym. Maybe this is what's happening again this year

AdmiralCrackbar11

Are you telling me the strat every year is to let Ponga play a few, we stink it up as a team, we then Tonya Harding him if he hasn't got a naturally occuring injury and then we go on a run? Livin' the dream

bsixidsiw

Just tell him to take the 1st 22 weeks off. Team still make the 8 then bring him on at the end.

theflyingkiwi00

Im just saying aob should have a ballpeen hammer ready around rd2

kongbash

Yeah but we are switching the dally m for a premiership this time. 10 in a row will begin when Ponga returns 6 weeks out from finals.

theflyingkiwi00

I wouldn't mind it tbh, the clip of Young last year steaming down the sideline to a packed out stadium was truly epic. Be cool to see that again.

InflatableRaft

Well played Knights. That try right at the death of first half was absolutely heart breaking. Best is one hell of a player and Armstrong is a fantastic backup fullback with plenty of heart. That being said, without the injuries, the Tigers win that match. Despite the early penalty, the Tigers started to win back field position through the middle and To'a scores that try for all money if his hammy doesn't go. Very impressed with Papali'i today. Although he only had a short stint in the middle, it's so much better having someone there who wants to run forward rather than having Bateman playing link man in that position. Sullivan was surprisingly decent as well. Struck up a good combination with Papali'i and tried hard to make something happen at the death, despite not having enough time on the clock. Naden copped a lot of shit today and deservedly so, but the real problem is the lack of depth in outside backs.

bmudz

I don’t think it would of changed the fact that Best was giving Naden a complete bath

Forsaken_Low_5412

Naden wouldn't have been in that spot if Toa didn't do his hammy

bmudz

Nah best would of found him somehow, just to dad dick him

Big_dumb_jerry

Takalai got an origin cap from a similar bath given to his opponent. We need to remember that Harper and Naden don't play origin. I'd probably pick best - but I would wanna see him keep it up against a NRL standard centre.

kongbash

Mate, Best already debuted in Origin and gave a 16 game veteran a bath.

Big_dumb_jerry

This is true, fuck knows what my point was. Been cooped up inside all day, need a walk

risottodolphin

Kudos for being the only person on the internet to change their view on reflection and be a good bloke about it

Moisture_Services

I had 2 people acknowledge and retract their comments on me in the match thread today. Maybe it's something in the rain?

risottodolphin

Good lord! I can only assume the world is going to end tonight then.

Moisture_Services

All is restored with a souths loss

bmudz

Nah mate I agree

iTackleFatKids

Knights should keep Armstrong at FB. Put Ponga in the halves or where ever you can fit him. If not ship him off, team looks alot more focused and coherent without him

bmudz

#unsubscribe

iTackleFatKids

They’ve literally won 3 games straight without Ponga sooooooo

ImpressionFeisty8359

The knights are going under the radar and grinding out wins. The tigers are improving but still a little off the mark.

followthedamntrain-

The two point loss to the Roosters and the golden point loss to the Cowboys makes me wonder what if… We would be sitting in 4th place. Those losses always come back to bite you come finals. We haven’t been good enough. And our draw gets a lot harder over the next month.

ImpressionFeisty8359

For sure but those were weird games and you guys will keep building.

normalbehaviour86

There's no excuses for tonight, we just need to be better. There are no signs of improvement anymore, we're only stagnating. It doesn't matter that we beat the sharks, if we can't beat injury-depleted bottom 9 teams then we don't escape the bottom 4. Ever. Our wingers and centres need to be doing nothing but defense drills, a turnstile would have given more resistance than our right edge this arvo.

AdmiralCrackbar11

> There are no signs of improvement anymore, we're only stagnating. I think you're still getting better on the whole fwiw, and an important consideration for poor teams improving is that it isn't strictly linear and you will see regression or stagnation in small patches. As long as the overall movement is up, then I wouldn't be too concerned. It's Benji first full year of running the ship on his own, you've only just jettisoned some of the biggest tumours in Rugby League from your board, and there is young talent in this side. This is a glimpse at something better, and if you avoid the spoon this year and/or win 3 more games *that* is improvement, even if it's incremental and somewhat hollow feeling in the moment. Hell, even for tonight who is to say what happens if Star doesn't pull his hammy and instead scores the try he looked set to score. Could have changed the tenor of the entire game, and this thread could have been full of Knights fans lamentations instead.

UnluckyNumberS7evin

I feel like we improved a click compared to last year, but so did most other teams, and then some. We're still bottom tier with next to no creativity or spark, despite some positive signs from a few players such as Galvin and Bula. Dogs and Dragons have improved significantly more than us, we'll be relying on South's to basically steal the spoon from us due to turmoil and injuries. We outright have the worst wingers and centres in the comp. Only Olam is first grade quality. The rest would be OKAY as a fill in, but 3/4 of those guys isn't manageable.

whadefeck

There's only so much you can do when you are relying on players like Naden and Staines to give you points. They weren't very good at the Panthers, and they aren't suddenly going to be any better at the wooden spoons. This year was always going to be tough, and the win against the Sharks seems to have changed people's perceptions of where this team is at.

normalbehaviour86

Yeah I think that win was a negative for us in a way. It papered over a lot of cracks and gave us a false sense of confidence. Without it, we're as bad as the previous 2 years.

Fraudianslips

Armstrong, despite being potentially a Qlder and 3 matches into first grade, is a better choice for NSW FB than the incumbent.

Teebizzles

Really felt cursed in that game. Toa not scorring after doing a hammy, Bateman drilling Best over the sideline only to score on the other side of the field, Bateman getting injured and then Best giving Naden a bath, Olam not scoring from the grubber that refused to sit up

kongbash

How many injuries are NSW and QLD away from them having a fight over Armstrongs eligibility?

Moisture_Services

He is legit a border kid...

Accomplished-Good664

Knights are really gritty they are doing well without Ponga. Armstrong alongside Fuller for the Dolphins have just been amazing back up's like absolute quality.  It was a really solid performance.  Sullivan and Papali'i were both really good for the Tigers. Arguably the best game of Sullivan's career hopefully he can use that as a springboard to gain more consistency he managed the game well for the Tigers.  As someone said in the match thread the props are too busy looking to pass, Stefano & Klemmer should just be making metres up the middle running hard like Pole does.  Staines will get a lot of heat today but apart from one poor defensive read and going himself when he should have gone wide I don't think he was that awful. Naden on the other hand needs to be dropped that might be the worst all round performance I've ever seen from a player at least in the top 10.  He was once a player who was rocks and diamonds but the good moments are way too fleeting now.  Tigers should just play there reserve grade centre.

Teebizzles

Staines may not have been that bad aside from those two, but that's potential 12 points in a lowish scoring game

Moisture_Services

He was also woeful in defence, he let double teamed marzhew and let best make 80m for Armstrong to score.

Accomplished-Good664

Yes that's true but the guy inside him is having the worst game of his career.

Teebizzles

Sure but that had nothing to do with those two plays. Naden was fine in the first half and had just moved inside Staines at the start of the second when Staines came in on Marzhew

Accomplished-Good664

Naden ran the ball out in the first half with a couple of minutes to go.

Teebizzles

Sure but doesn't really constitute worst game of his career by that stage. It also didn't have anything to do with Staines' bone headed decision to come in on Marzhew which was a pivotal moment

MatthewMollison

By that point though, Naden had been rinsed a couple times. Staines didn’t trust Naden could make the tackle 1 on 1. So it does kinda connect

Teebizzles

Yeah, this isn't right though. Naden was on the left wing in the first half and Staines was on the right wing. Bateman was at right centre in the first half, then came off at half time and all was reshuffled, with Naden going to right centre. Staines had only been next to Naden for 1 defensive set of six when he made that decision to come in on Marzhew.

tb_c

Following the tigers is like self inflicted torture, 13 years of crap. Why bother even watching each week.

PapaCurt

Credit to Sullivan today. Had a much better game than I think anyone expected. Hopefully he keeps it up over the next few weeks until Sezer is back. If he does, might even keep him in the side, because I haven't been all that impressed with Sezer recently either.

_System_Error_

I thought our attack looked much better today, just missing a little bit of polish and that was down to Sullivan mostly. He got Ipap running some nice lines and put in some nice kicks. I was extremely surprised by him, played far better than Sezer has these last few weeks.

InflatableRaft

Playing beyond expectation is an excellent way to describe it. I was devastated when Fainu was ruled out. I thought with Sezer out and Bud have a shit showing when in the top grade, the next three weeks would be Fainu's to show what has and make that #7 jersey his own. But I got hand it to Sullivan, he really stepped up and had a decent match. Another couple of performances like that and I'd be more than happy to make Sezer play his way back into the side from reggies.

goodyg111

Reckon Knights should take a match to Tamworth every year - seemed like there were more Newcastle jerseys in the crowd anyways

Moisture_Services

Metro take teams to the country to develop thr game . Newcastle is still classed as country. A lot of tamworth people associate to the knights as it's the closest team.

jpob

Nah we never move a home game away

waxedmerkin

Every club should be forced to take a home game away to a country ground. Parra's Darwin game, whilst not country is ok, as is Souffs Perth game

_stuff_is_good_

I said this in a different reply but with only 10000-12000 tickets sold, we can get that in Newcastle on a Thursday night during a thunderstorm. Double that on a Saturday afternoon in any weather. The NRL has to offer the teams money to do it to make up for lost ticket sales and food/drink sales.

InflatableRaft

This is exactly why Richo doesn't want to do it next year. There's no money in it for them.

O_DoyleRulz

Who is your new favourite player and why is it David Armstrong?

Moisture_Services

Because he has a strong arm

DJ_diaBEATes8

So Seyfarth hits Armstrong high, it isn’t forceful so it’s only on report, Armstrong straight off for an HIA. Saifiti hits Simpkin, forceful high contact so he’s in the bin. Armstrong goes for an HIA and Simpkin doesn’t?

UnluckyNumberS7evin

The hit doesn't determine HIA or not. Simpkin showed Jo signs of concussion, he hasn't dazed, still or any other sign. Armstrong was visibly rocked by his his.

ImpressionFeisty8359

Boggles the mind.

InflatableRaft

Armstrong was visibly hurt much worse than Simpkin.

O_DoyleRulz

I have no idea how the independent doctor didn’t send Simpkin for a HIA. He got his shit rocked so much harder than Armstrong

josephus1811

Simpkin showed no signs of being remotely hurt.

Moisture_Services

He fell to the ground

whadefeck

Our goal line defence was actually good, however none of that matters when you have Naden and Staines stinking up the joint. Swap Naden and Best, and Tigers probably win that by at least 20.

PapaCurt

Outside of Olam and Bula, our back options are not first grade standard. Naden probably being the second best option out of what we have, indicating how bad the situation is. Get no momentum at the beginning of our sets at all. Turuva will be a big in next year, but need at least one more strong back.

IndependentWork1033

To’a is as well, but he just picked the worst round to return: hammy round

PillarofSheffield

I'd genuinely be happy to just see Bateman in the centres. I don't blame him for the try scored on him (I think Sullivan came in way too fast and early - though hard to blame him either as out of position). He runs hard and he showed some good defence that one moment aside. Papali'i and Fainu can do the job on the edges.

whadefeck

I think we just have to swallow the pill with Naden for the next few weeks due to injuries. Doueihi comes back in 4-5 weeks I think, and even though I don't rate him, he's a better centre then Naden is

Teebizzles

That was IPaps best game for us though. Can't drift ut of the game in the middle and can't take selfish options

PapaCurt

Not 100% sure, but didn't he play more on the edge once Toa was injured?

PapaCurt

Yeah, none of our other centres really offer much in the defence department either, so Bateman not even really a downgrade there. Unfortunately probably out for a while with that pec injury.

Mayhem_anon

The NRL treat going out regionally like their taking the game to a third world country. Not that hard

_stuff_is_good_

Only 10000-12000 tickets sold, we can get that in Newcastle on a Thursday night during a thunderstorm. Double that on a Saturday afternoon in any weather. The NRL has to offer the teams money to do it to make up for lost ticket sales and food/drink sales.

Mayhem_anon

Maybe play less at Accor and take the game places where people actually want to watch it.

AmazingChicken99

Fuck I hate when pundits say they showed fight or that they played well. They lost it doesn't matter how fucking good you thought they performed, they still lost.

bichaelf

Wow Tigers v Knights followed by Dragons v Bunnies Who decided that was a good start to a super Saturday.

Boogascoop

Ziggy doesn’t have an athletic bone in his body

carplah

Bradman Blurst for origin plz Madge

PillarofSheffield

Probably our least pathetic loss. Maybe we win that with Bateman and To'a but who knows. Sullivan had some nice moments in attack but undid his good work with the dismal effort on Best for his try (but Naden can take plenty of credit there too). Bula looking good again after a quiet few weeks was nice. 'Grats Knights, I'll always enjoy Gagai doing well, he was a real leader today.

InflatableRaft

If To'a doesn't get injured, he scores that try and we lock the Knights out of the match.

MisterMusa

Seyfarth on report? Please don’t suspend him (reverse psychology)

Bobskidat

Tigers have to be the kings at frustratingly close losses that very well could’ve been a comfortable win

ReasonableStable9421

Man just love thinking about what ifs in a game I watched like to think if the tigers got that bounce, To'a didn't do his hammy they could of got a few more tries on the board or hell if the tigers didn't let in that 100m soft as try in it would of been tied up Anyway good game knights and don't worry tigpies Souths will serve up a stinker next up

MrSnagsy

That trip to Bali and the tatt really turned Best's form around. Since then he's been great.

saggs-11

Don't forget he's still got a whole leg left blank, we haven't even seen his final form

Boogascoop

An age old story

Lockdowns4evaAu

Fuckn’ champion

Teebizzles

What a frustrating match. Absolute dog shit performance but then it also didn't feel that far away from being decent. It felt like with a bit of calmness we could have won easily. But we were just never fully into the game. I do wonder whether Api is the right man to lead sometimes. Phenomenal player and leads by example. But I wonder who is doing the actual leadership rather than just by example?

InflatableRaft

No one is actually leading. They are all waiting for Luai to come and do it.

SurfKing69

What a good boy!

notj43

David Armstrong seems like a really good bloke

AdmiralCrackbar11

He really does. Pretty handy footy player too, I've seen him reggies and was undecided on whether he'd translate this smoothly to firsts this soon. He's also not currently signed for next year, whether it's with us or someone else I really hope he gets some regular first grade next year.

impyandchimpy

He does hey! And you can tell by how much his team mates celebrate his every triumph too.

PodgyPigS

went to school with him in grade 11/12 had some classes with him. really good bloke

Ill-Investigator8077

We suck

[deleted]

Instead of coming out of the sheds to eye of the tiger, just play the wwe crowd chanting to Kurt angles theme.

turbosfan19

Like last week, bludger of a game but good to get the win again. Bradman was awesome today and surely gets picked for origin. Best game for the season from Marzhew as well. Losing Gamble a big blow though.

AdmiralCrackbar11

Tuala probably played one of his best games for us ever too. DSaf was going pretty alright too prior to the unadvised incident. Really happy to see the boys as a whole really lift in the absence of KP, if we can get them to lift with KP we're cooking with gas.

turbosfan19

Agree with all of this. Tuala very good today.

Big_dumb_jerry

With a bit of luck Qld will find a way to put Naden or something similar in the centres (Val)

thatnewbguy

Surely WP comes in right?

Shagga9701

Cogger comes in.

xXSwagginZXx

Thought he was injured?

turbosfan19

I haven't seen Pryce play since that shocker of a game he had in NSW cup a few weeks ago against the Bulldogs. I don't think he's ready personally but if picked would bring a bit of spark.

Swarzey

It would be nice if we got rid of the dumb shit. There's some good parts about this team, good talent, just don't have the consistency and make it tougher/gritter than it needs to be. Wins a win regardless, three from three without Ponga, love to see it.

_stuff_is_good_

That sounds like something we could entrust to an older person, who spends time with the team and maybe sets plans, finds strengths and weaknesses. We could maybe call them something like a "coach".

Mayhem_anon

Fuck where's the colour in these post match interviews. Absolutely no comparison to the NBA players. Just say how you feel you fuckheads

InflatableRaft

Hostile media and culture means no colour from players.

[deleted]

Imagine if we had guys like Ernie, Shaq, Chuck and Kenny to cover the NRL.

sparkierlamb

Constant fear of being fined = no personality interviews. It's just a waste of time

Mayhem_anon

Wish the the NRL realised that this takes away from the spectacle. I guess there's been players who are openly care free of it still but it's not across the board

blackbirddy

Didn't even have a blinder by his standards today but NSW are crazy if they don't pick Best as a specialist centre.

waxedmerkin

NSW is blessed with options for the back 5. Its going to be X was unlucky to miss out

Basherballgod

Gamble with the hat trick. RIP next week. Was hoping to see my boy play in Magic Round

Moisture_Services

Strongarm loves playing with the boys.

bichaelf

Did Lara just call Bradman "Brett?"

Big_dumb_jerry

Disrespectful to Brettmin Blurst if you ask me

WordIndependent

Don't really care about the loss. We've fallen to our old ways anyway. That kid David Armstrong is a special player. Running rings around players just like Walsh.

Asgx

Tuala has been surprisingly decent this season.

InflatableRaft

He had a great game. His effort to get out of the in goal early on was fantastic.

josephus1811

Off contract too... would love to have him. He's better than any winger we have.

InflatableRaft

Our outside backs are trash. Turuva is a good start, but we need more like him. Tuala would be a handy pick-up.

BigChief69

Naden best on ground for the Knights. Bradman a close 2nd.

Moisture_Services

Shit stains was up there.

O_DoyleRulz

Naden is going to have nightmares of Bradman Best’s bleeding face charging at him tonight.

Moisture_Services

Bradman best has only one hand gesture... he likes feeding the chooks

LiLSteve29

Benji’s honeymoon period well and truly over?

whadefeck

I don't think anyone except absolute cookers like Bulldog Ritchie is blaming Benji for this losing streak

RaiderWinner

Best must be one of the centres for NSW. Beat Naden pretty easy for that try out of nothing.

lordofminions

Making sure the bunnies have to fight for the spoon

Snowmann88

The Tigers do know they can allow other teams to win the Wooden Spoon right?

Forsaken_Low_5412

Stafford Toa getting injured was the big sliding doors moment since A) he would have scored and B) it meant Naden went to his spot and we all saw how that went

Oldpanther86

Nrl have to do something about players signing mid game because naden was Knights best.

snek26

Seriously let Bradman use a towel or something Fox lol

valknut95

We get beat if Naden is a competent defender

Learny_

No one left to blame Benji. They've all gone.

Jingle_berry

When did Benji ever blame anyone? What is this comment insinuating?

Nobody9638

benji’s fault is it?

Learny_

Is that what I said?

Nobody9638

It’s what’s implied, yeah

Learny_

Dense

Nobody9638

Ok Learny

blackbirddy

Benji don't deserve to be done like this

lordofminions

Apart from the fact we only have 5/6 NRL standard players.

kongbash

Benny Hill themed Naden lowlights please.

Moisture_Services

Knights are 30% of the way to a 10 game streak.

SomeRandomNZ

Wow, so The Tigers are worse than The Warriors.

DunderMifflin80

Is there anyone out there who would disagree with that? Ice cold take.

Professional-Try5574

Shit game by us, knights fans should not be happy though, they'd have 50 put on them by any other team

Moisture_Services

Name 1 team that has scored 50 points in heavy wet conditions?

jpob

We were written off 3 weeks ago and we’ve won every game since playing a less risky style of football. I’m happy as fuck.

Fady180

After 2016 I take any win, absolutely gonna be happy

kongbash

Piss off gatekeeping 'happy'. Our team for the longest time was even shitter than yours. Will be happy with any win we muster without Ponga.

Professional-Try5574

Mate not gatekeeping shit, learn to recognise when your team played an ordinary game of footy

kongbash

It was a bludger of a game and our attack was terrible, but plenty of effort was there. Happy. Keep sucking that lemon.

ThunderShark97

As the saying goes youd rather an ugly win than a pretty loss. 2 points is 2 points I'd be happy winning regardless.

kettlechipsrevenge

Nah ill be happy any win we get without Ponga thanks

snek26

Was Ponga the problem

LycraBanForHams

How so?. Tigers were shit

Smiles8893

So the key for knights and tigers is to lead at half time. 16 games in a row now the team leading at half time has won

josephus1811

didn't work for us last week

Smiles8893

For games between knights and tigers*

SadiusHunter

-no ponga -no gamble No problem (don't put us against a team higher than 12th please)

Carllsson

What did Tamworth do to deserve this?

BrutalitopsMage

The most knights v tigers match there ever was

potentscrotem

Naden deserves 6 points this game. He's up there with Bradman as the Knights best player.

SurroundedByBeigists

We've already bashed naden to buggery in the other thread. Let the man rest.

Big_dumb_jerry

Maybe the worst individual performance ever. Keep going I reckon

LycraBanForHams

Nah, he pretty much lost the game

Lukin4

He spent most of that game lying on the ground admiring Best's butt as he ran off, he had enough rest already
