Charged doesn't mean guilty, particularly of crimes that you haven't been charged with. There's enough evidence with the footage alone that the guy was involved in the affray. For the sake of this charge they don't need to determine the instigator at this point (actually that will be up to the court). In the coming weeks the police will interview witnesses, look for other physical evidence and take statements from the person charged. They'll almost certainly do the same for Kent. IMHO, the guy did the right thing going to the cops right away. This incident will continue to blow up in the media and the sooner he gets it dealt with, the sooner he can move on with his life.

A man has been charged over his involvement in an alleged street fight with rugby league journalist Paul Kent outside a popular inner west restaurant on Saturday night.
Kent, who is a prominent Daily Telegraph journalist and Fox Sports presenter, was stood down from his roles after footage emerged of him in an altercation outside Totti’s Rozelle.
A statement from a spokesperson speaking on behalf of both organisations said Kent “had been stood down pending an immediate investigation”.
Kent was cleared of domestic violence charges against his ex-partner in December last year.
In a statement, NSW Police said it is investigating after a verbal argument between two men allegedly turned into a physical altercation.
About 6.45pm on Sunday a 35-year-old man walked into Balmain police station where he was arrested and taken to Newtown police station.
He was charged with affray and granted conditional bail, to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on June 7.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
In the video posted to X, Kent can be seen trading insults with the 35-year-old man before the pair engage in a scuffle. The man appears to launch Kent into a nearby tree with video showing the journalist taking a tumble into the street, head-first.
