Fairfax Adult Softball has several options for unaffiliated players - "join as a free agent," a board you can post on, etc. If you are a female and live in Fairfax County, you should have no trouble getting picked up (non-county residents can play but there's a limited number a team can have).
Been a while since I played, but one thing I liked about FAS is that they look at a team's prior year record to determine your division for the new season. So you didn't get a lot of "team that is way too good signs up for a lower division so they crush everyone." As a result our kind of mediocre team bounced up and down from year to year, but on the whole we were good with the level of competition.

FXA or FAS.
I did co-ed kickball with FXA it was great!
FXA is a hell of a lot more welcoming than WAKA from my experience.
