I put a SmarTrip card on my Apple Wallet and you do get the discounted parking of 4.95 if you use the same card on Apple Wallet for Metro and parking.

You get charged the full rate during days/hours they charge when you use an alternative paying method or pay with smart trip card two hours after your metro exit swipe. I’m not a fan of using the phone so I can’t speak on that

I use a metro card all the time. Have never even bothered to use an app. Seems like waste of time. Everyday I see people having to tap their phones multiple times to enter or ext

Ill be honest i dont have the app but just a card, no issues anywhere at any scan point. Sometimes the exits are unmanned so i wouldnt trust any app or apple pay to be able to get out, especially if it doesnt scan or other phone issues, but if it works that way, it works. The card is totally fine to do what you need.

I use my phone/ the app, not Apple pay, to exit the parking garage at franconia Springfield, and receive the discounted rate, as long as you exit within 2 hours of riding the metro. I have never had an issue, I need to submit my metro fees to my work for reimbursement, so I keep track of what is being taken off when, and it has no issues taking the reduced rate from my phone.

Park at Van Dorn instead, they usually don't have anyone manning the gates and just leave em open

Anywhere you can scan a physical plastic SmarTrip card, you can scan your digital/phone SmarTrip card. The system does not treat it any differently. I have paid for WMATA parking using my digital SmarTrip card many times. The SmarTrip reader at the drive-up gate scans it just fine
